I made four chairs and a porch table with my uncle when I was 13 , those are still my pride joy today , unfortunately my uncle past away, but the day before he died we had coffee and fig jam in that table, brings alot off memories, thank you for the video Ian!
@Helmsburgsawmill I thank for that man, memories and family it's wats makes a man, I know you hot a strong family, you're granpa it's a force of nature, I love that guy
I have a walnut bedroom suite consisting of 2 wardrobes 2 dressers and 2 chests of drawers, 2 shoe racks they were my parents and were made in 1962 although the design is not what you would think of as 60s, I inherited them along with the family house, they are beautiful crotch figured black walnut with turned knobs and carved handles, they were looked after and waxed regularly, they weigh a ton, and as my dad would say, they were built to last.I love them, they hold so many memories for me.
Thanks pointing out that information about black walnut, I have have a band saw mill, and people think all blackwalnut is valuable, there is always the danger of nails in yard trees, they are not worth cutting.
My favorite piece of walnut woodwork I built was an oak cocktail table with two eight point stars (14" across) made up of cherry and walnut inlaid in it's top. Labor intensive but pretty.
I had the opportunity to tour a coo coo clock factory in the black forest in Germany in 1975. They did some amazing things with walnut and all of the other woods they acquired.
Very interesting to see walnut being sawn. Excellent variety of content in this video. Haven't ever come across a walnut in my 30 years of logging and land clearing. Glad to hear the truth being told about the value of black walnut. Everyone thinks their trees, regardless of species, are stems of gold 😂 I will say, a local small scale mill is selling black walnut FAS, KD for $10/BF. What species are you using for your stickers and in-house lumber pallets? Excellent video.
I would say that is a lovely laid out sawmill there i used to work in a sawmill where i used to handle over managable chunk of slap it wasnt cut graduraly , it was a mess, and is there any chance of filming from the loader deck end looking down to the saw on the other side of the cabin ?
How do the edger and headrig blades stand up to the black walnut. The wood fiber looks tough to me. I guess that is why it belongs to the hardwood distinction.
Hia Ian, a quick question if thats ok with yourself? A few episodes back, you mentioned something about the milling process being partly run by automation, is that something you may look into in time?
Oh it’s involves zero automation! I’m commanding every move without aid on my sets:) And honestly, no. Not really. That would take all the fun out of it;)
There are blowers that connect to boxes underneath of the blades! I need to crawl up in and show everybody! Also we clean out our bin before we saw it. You don’t to sell walnut dust to people who’re using it for horses
Another cool video, Thank You! 👍

Now that would be awesome to see:) I bet they were all beautiful❤️
@Helmsburgsawmill All of them are still hand-made. They don't use anything but hand tools.
nice walnut ty Ian n guys
Thank you:) it always makes some pretty lumber!
Good sawing 👍 Your guy do a great job stacking and stickering. Locally we don't have very much walnut, I guess it's just a peculiarity of our area.
Thank you sir:) at some point, it would be nice if the channel afford one of those veneer walnuts, so I can saw it up for you guys:)
Other than some furniture, my biggest use for walnut has been slabs of AAAA Claro walnut from Reinhart Fajen before they went under.
I always love slabs! There will be some going in my house:)
I use a lot of walnut for my cutting boards
I love Walnut cutting boards!:)

Impresionante trabajo con la madera de nogal negro. La precisión y habilidad en el aserrado son de admirar. ¡Gran contenido!

Thank you for the read sir!
You mean looking through both sets of plexiglass?!

They hold up just fine! These logs are pretty old as well. Fresh walnut cuts a lot like poplar!

Plus it’s very expensive😂 I don’t want to pollute my vibe with equipment and tech that makes it boring in the long game!
where dose the sawdust go that comes off of your saw blades?

Made a California king posted bed. Posts were 14" dia. turned.
Beautiful wood! What state are you in? Thank you for sharing.
Indiana!
Thank you!
Tell me your not sending walnut cents off to be made into pallets!!
20 yrs ago walnut 2 common lumber was paying .25 cents a board foot, pallet lumber was .35 cents. Just because it is walnut doesn't mean it is gold.
No! They’re going on sticks for now! We have a stockpile of blocks that we can take to have run through a re-saw!!!
Honestly I just wanted to saw this stuff to say I have some walnut on here😂
