You have just prevented many divorces with this banger. 😳
As a boat owner for over 20 years...I've never forgotten to take the straps off my front or rear boat, as well as never forgetting about the plug....at least I like to think that. hahaha.
You should make a video about ramp etiquette as well. I hate it when people see a ton of boats waiting, yet still sit and tied to the dock shooting the breeze.
Great idea! I covered that in the Yamaha Boating academy that is linked in the video description, but it would probably be good to also film it for my channel
Good video. Another point to make for beginners is be courteous of others on the ramp. Be prepared to launch and when you're done get out of the way.
Very true!
great video. Some (when alone)use a long bow line at let it drag off(coiled) the trailer, then grab it after the boat floats. You always have control of the boat.. Then tie it off and go park your vehicle.
Plug. It’s always the damn plug! My buddy and I now have a water pump in our compartment.
Here I am watching this video as if I own a boat :')
Positive thinking!
Oh man! From what I see at the launches a lot of people need to watch this!
That's why I make these types of videos!
Dude, i literally bought my first boat from my uncle this week. on its way to california from Houston. What beautiful timing!
Awesome!
Sameeeeee. Picking my first bought up Friday!!!! Holy timing
Good Video! As some have commented, I use a rope as well to keep the boat from blowing away due to wind.. also use my Talons to hold the boat at times.
I also launch by myself almost ever time I go fishing. One thing I do is attach a dock line ( about 30 feet ) to the boat and trailer to keep my boat tethered until I can get on the dock.
Exactly. If you do like he says in this video you'll be swimming for your boat if you don't get the perfect launch
I just watched 2 videos that both launched this way. It’s all fine and dandy when ya have them power poles to throw down when ya f up. I’d have way to much anxiety to launch like this!
@@jcappel802 I don’t have power poles. I tie about 25 to 30 foot of line with one end to my boat and the other end to my trailer. I back my boat into the water until it floats then get out untie the line from the trailer and walk it to the dock.
That was a great instructional video, now you can make video loading your boat back on trailer!👍
Great video, now all I got to do is buy a boat and trailer.
Do glad this video is out now , I dm’ed you about this video a while ago glad it came out. Gonna be going on my first solo boat trip this coming week thank you for the tips and help Tyler!
Good luck!
Great instruction video Tyler. As always, wise beyond your years!
I use a rope tied to the bow loop to pull it back into shore as most of my Ramps dont have docks. I also have a Truckers Knob on my steering wheel to make backups and towing easier.
He meant to say that this is how you launch a boat after you’ve done it a thousand times. lol 😂
Drone view.. what a great idea for beginners
Glad you think so!
I don't really like other people helping me much. Most can't back a trailer and others can't load a boat straight. It's less stress for me to just do it myself until they have been out a few times and learned. Everyone says they can do it, few newbies actually can. Now my wife is awesome at all of it when she gets to go with me.
Really useful , thx
Your boat looking really clean and nice, I’m trying to convince my dad to help me buy a boat so I can spend more time on the water with my friends.
I''m rooting for ya!
Dont have a boat but thumbs up cause you deserve it bro!
Thank you josh!!
This is crazy. I stopped at this part because everything he said and was about to say is spot on. I’ve had a boat for well over 10 years and my nickname is Tow Mater.
Prep and check till you find nothing then one more time. Build a process and take it slow. Don’t be ashamed to correct. Well done Tyler. 🎉🎉 6:16
Thank you Randy!
Get a routine for getting straps off and plugs in and you will get it down with time, for backing up it’ll just take time so go at a not busy time and just back it down. Take a break if you frustrated cause it will only go downhill
Tyler how did you know we just bought a boat????? 🤣
I just know things!
All your videos are amazing
Thank you so much 😀
At the end I thought when he was talking about being safe on the water he was gonna bring up the engine not starting :P
I always leave the bow strap hooked up until my boat is in the water so it doesn't float away. I have a tiny boat though.
Nice videos love them keep it up
Thanks, will do!
I think it's a good idea to put your boat plug in before you leave home - then recheck its tightness just before launching.
Yep!
Yeah Buddy!!!
That boat launch procedure looks really cool. If you’re a beginner, do not follow the last step without someway to secure your boat before you get out of the truck when launching solo. All other considerations discussed were great! Also, consider the size of your boat vs the 21 footer vs the wind direction.
For entertainment I watch those videos of boating mishaps. You just can't believe what people do behind the wheel of a boat!
I like to run a rope from the boat tie down hook on the front to the truck as I'm backing it down that way I don't have any concern about it getting away. Of course I'm handicap and Walk with a cane so I'm a little slow getting out and to the boat than a health person is.
Also remember if you are waiting, and all ready to launch, but decide to leave. Reattach all safety straps, equipment
good tips seen three scratch up the side of the ramp with their trailer
If you're by yourself, it also helps if you tie a line off to the boat and your truck, just Incase the boat decides to get taken away, and I personally wait til the boat is right at the waters edge before I disconnect the winch AND the safety chain. I have personally had a winch fail and if it wasn't for my chain, the boat would have rolled right off onto the ramp.
Hey you forgot to park the truck!! 🤣 JK that angle tip will help I also usually go alone!! Hey you should do a vid on the hazards of ramps that could cause you’re vehicle to go into the water! Like algae on the ramp I saw a truck similar to the one you have slide right into the lake!! It’s on UA-cam some where you should check it out if you haven’t seen that one! Thanks again! Also THAT BOAT!! Nice!!
Why your boat ramps so good? Mine here in TN are steeper that mountains or just flat and have to back the end of the truck in to launch, and not counting all the huge logs on the ramps all the time and green slimy stuff that is super slippery where I bust my back slipping. And yes that was a very long rant.
Cause Texas parks and wildlife generally doesn’t slack on taking care of our fisheries
Two things that most folks should do if launching by themselves: First, keep you boat strapped to the winch, so the boat can launch off the trailer and not run away from the docks. Second, start the boat before unstrapping the boat from the winch. I've seen and helped more boaters retrieve their boats that floated away from the dock while they are getting out of their vehicles and if the boat doesn't start, then it will be able to be put back on the trailer.
Hey Tyler! Any plans to go more in depth with your rod, reel, and line setups? I would be very interested in hearing how you set up each different type and what line you choose for each. Having this in one video would be a great reference to keep going back to instead of searching through each individual video!
I will once I get my setups for this year exactly how I want them!
wow what a good tutorial.
Thanks Jonathan!
Best advice I’ve ever gotten was don’t be the jack ass laughing at the ramp. Everyone has tough launches. Help your fellow man out! Hell he may even invite you out next time so you can do more than beat the bank!
Good video bro!
Appreciate it
@@TylersReelFishing I always have to launch my boat myself and it’s funny I do the same thing that you do👍 Awesome!
YOU GOT YOUR NAME ON YOUR BOAT!!
That I do!
I don't even have a boat or a trailer just watching in case I can ever afford one lol.
That’s the spirit! You will also be able to impress your friends and fill them with gratitude if you know how to back their trailer down the ramp
Being someone who doesn't own a boat but wants to get one, how do you work all the controls? Is there a boating class that teaches you where all the controls are and what the different jargon means?
It’s linked in the video description! Called “yamaha boating academy”
Awesome!
Thank you Tyler!
In most states you need a boat license to operate one. The internet instruction class will go over a lot of things like that.
For all the people who wanted me to talk about using a rope when launching by myself, I don’t use a rope, so of course I’m not going to talk about that😂 As soon as I get too old to be shimmying around the back of the truck and hopping on the trailer, I will make a video using a rope
The “trim blocker” is called a transom tote and it’s to keep your boat motor straight and to keep the motor from turning side to side and bouncing up and down while towing to protect your motor the lower unit the trim and everything in the back end of your boat from damage
Yes, that is correct
My grandpa and I always used to tie off but we’re getting better to where I can just drive it off and pick him up
While this method obviously works for you quite well i dont think most older anglers can do this. I fish alone and am 63 yrs old. I am very fit and agile still as i was in the military for 37 years and i dont think I’d attempt this method. I simple back the boat into the water until the trailer wheels are under water, put my vehicle in park with emergency brake on and then unclimbed the safety strap, climb in the boat, start it up, back off the trailer, tie to dock and then go park my trailer. No chance of the boat ever getting away from me. I also purchased a ‘trick step’ for the bow of the trailer which allows me to climb in and out of the boat without ever getting wet. Most pros i know who fish alone have one …
Any tips on parking your truck and trailer after launching especially at a packed ramp?
Park far away and take wider turns
Hey Tyler... whenever you have time, do you mind making a video for the people who wants to start a UA-cam channel but don’t know how to go about it.
Already have!

For those of you whose parents are siblings, this tutorial is perfect for you 👍🏼
Yep! I create videos just for inbreeds like you!
@@TylersReelFishing inbreds* it’s okay though I wouldn’t expect someone that has to make a video on backing a boat up to know how to spell lmao.
@@TylersReelFishing have fun catching baby bass 😂😂
The easiest way is to drop the tailgate and watch the boat over your shoulder provided you have enough clearance between it and the trailer/ boat.
Launching without the boat attached to something is a good way to guarantee you'll be taking a dip to go get it, leave the winch attached then step on the tire to get in the bed and unhook it then either drive the boat over to the dock or shove it back with a bow line attached and pull it over to the dock.
Learn to use your mirrors and you’ll never go back. Trust me. I will go to my grave over that fact
@@TylersReelFishing you can pull up at an angle to the ramp and you don't have to go slow when you're looking right at it. You get it on the first try every time with the boat on or off the trailer. I'm talking about jon boats though, your boat is plenty wide enough to see in both mirrors. I just got a boat with a 92" beam but I'm so used to my old 1448 that i still look over my shoulder.
The parking brake is your friend.
It may sound stupid when prepping a boat for launch since there are only a few tasks to perform but you could always prepare a simple checklist. Once you think you have completed all the tasks review the steps again to make sure everything is ready to go!
For sure! Maybe laminate it and put it in your glove box
Go slow is the number one tip great video thank you
You got it!
Now you need to fly to the dock and park your truck
I just got a kayak and there’s a river close to home, any helpful tips?
Don't bring too much, and take it slow! Really get used to how your kayak feels. Also search "Tylersreelfishing kayak". I am sure I have made videos about that
I prefer to power off the boat that way it's never out of my control when it comes off the trailer. You do this by only putting the trailer in far enough to let the friction from the bunk boards hold the boat which is usually when the water hits the top of the trailer tires. Fire up the engine and back the boat off usually just takes a little blip of the throttle to pull the boat off the bunks.
I do that if it is winter, or I don’t have a dock that I can jump from
I once forgot to take my transom saver off.. ran clear cross about a mile to my spot wondering wtf was wrong with my motor. Didn't realize it until I got to my first spot.. I was just so excited to get out on the water.. Yes I'm an idiot for it.. But I'd like to think it could happen to anyone. Especially being excited like that.
It totally can!!
Bro have me cringing so hard. Best method is the one that works for you but i keep the bow line on but loosed out until I'm in the water. Especially if there is a dock. I also will always have a line on the back to the dock.
Is that the same truck they let Westin Smith use?
Yes
Tyler did you get a new truck
He talks about it in the video.
It has to be "Let's talk about it"
I know I know, I messed up 😂
@@TylersReelFishing haha, you can tell in your expression, it just didn't sound right!
Also, love the content! You should easily be at the 500k sub plus mark!
Are you going to do a follow up about loading a boat by yourself? Motor and rope method would be pretty cool!
you left your truck on the ramp
What else am I supposed to do? I’m launching the boat by myself 😂
@@TylersReelFishing it was a joke because it seems in the video that you just crank it over and go fishing from where you leave it off
Ahh haha
First
learned nothing from this
Watch it again
No rope tether from the trailer to the boat while solo launching your boat....... Gets a thumbs down from me!
You’re actually going to dislike the video because I launch it in a different way than you? That’s obscene
@@TylersReelFishing He has a good point though. Should be a standard safety measure to make sure you don't lose your boat.
@@wnchstrman but all because he doesn’t use a rope doesn’t mean you have to dislike 😂
