Great video. I am considering buying a Yamaha for golf and vehicle at the Villages. I am intrigued by the Umax Rally, and wonder if if could be adapted as a part-time golf cart and full-time PTV mini-pickup.
I recently moved to a golf community and have a cart for the first time. I bought the previous homeowners cart and it is lifted. He didn't play golf with it, I do. I personally don't like the lifted cart if you are golfing with it. Harder to get in and out of and you can't grab a golf ball off the ground while riding in it.
Lifted carts are definitely not good for golf. You may be able to sell that lifted cart and make enough money to buy a newer non-lifted cart. Thanks for watching!

The G29s are good carts. Just make sure it has the updated FBT clutches and not the old TEAM clutches. If it still has the old TEAM clutches, you will want to update them ($800). We have a video that goes over that.
Really enjoyed your video! Just curious how many hours one should expect to get out of one of these before you need to worry about major repairs? Also, if I am looking at one without an hour meter would that be a Fleet model (seems to have everything else).
If it doesn't have the fuel gauge with hour meter, then yes it would be a fleet model. I just bought a 2018 quietech. It does not have an hour meter. But it does have the rear independent suspension, lights, horn,….. did they not put the gauge on 2018’s?
Quick Question. I have a 18’ EFI and it looks to already be wired for a fuel gauge. I can tell by the wiring on top of the tank, but It didn’t come with a fuel gauge. Where can I find the factory gauge to install? I seem to only find aftermarket products. Thanks and I’ve really enjoyed your videos.
The fuel pump in the fleet models use the same housing as the PTVs but there is no sending unit in the tank. Designing a fuel pump setup for the fleet models is on our LONG list of things to-do. Thanks for watching!
What’s your thoughts on a lift kit? Will it diminish the ride quality or remain very similar. Can’t believe it takes that much for an oil change tho. About how many hours should the oil be changed?
Yes a lift kit definitely hurts the ride quality and handling. If you don't install heavy duty springs you will get a lot of body roll, and if you do install the HD springs it will ride super rough. Oil changes are easy if you get the vacuum pump I showed in my other video - ua-cam.com/video/qLkyY5Eg4hc/v-deo.html You should change oil at least once or twice per year, depending on how much you use it.
I have an '18 Drive2 with a Jake's 3" lift. It's ok. Allows me to run 22" tires. The ride is worse for sure, and I have camber issue in the front. Nothing can be done because it's a drop spindle and not adjustable.
The cart used in this video has a rear seat kit installed to haul four people around. From the factory this cart just comes with the front seat for two people and golf bag holders on the back.
They do make a bar attachment that you can bolt onto the rear seat kit that would allow you to carry two golf bags, but you can't have passengers on the back while you are carrying the golf bags. Check out www.buggiesunlimited.com to see some of the available accessories. This cart has the GTW 150 rear seat.
How do I know if I have the PTV or fleet model? I have a 2018 Yamaha quietech cart, But I can't find any distinguishing labeling on it? I love all your videos, keep up the excellent work!! 👍👍
If its a PTV it will have OEM head/tail lights, fuel gauge with hour meter, a horn button on the floor, and will go 19 MPH or more if its been turned up. There is no label that says PTV.
thx for the review! I'm looking into buying one and also came across the 'adventurer' model. I think it has better looks, factury lifted a bit, with brush guard,... but then I saw that one has a max speed of only 15mph and doesn't have the independent rear suspension? what are your thougts / experiences on this 'adventurer' model and do you think it would be possible to let it run 20-23 mph just as easy as the drive 2 PTV? thx!
The adventurer model comes with the solid rear axle and the standard gears that would come in the fleet carts. So you don't get the independent rear suspension and you don't get the "quietech" so it will be a little louder as well. By turning the governor up on a adventurer you will probably only be able to get it to 19-20 mph without causing excessive wear on the engine. The PTV model is the only cart that Yamaha sells that comes with the high speed gears. If you need a lifted cart get the adventurer, if not I would get the PTV. Do NOT buy a PTV and put a lift kit on it, it will kill the ride quality and handling.
I assume that you mean that your cart has a rear facing seat? If so, this might work for you - myproformx.com/collections/rear-seats/products/golf-bag-attachment-fits-challenger-se-rear-seats
I know that stinger makes a push button ignition for the electric carts do you know of any type of security ignition for this drive to gas card. Thank you
Sorry I have not tried installing any type of security system on any of these carts. If I ever have to leave a cart parked somewhere I don't trust, I just remove the main fuse or unplug the fuel pump. This will keep them from driving it away but not from pushing it on a trailer. I have yet to have one stolen. Good luck!
A local shop told me I should install a code system on mine. You have to punch in a code before it will run. I declined but will regret it if it is ever stolen.
Heyo, I have a 2017 quietech fleet cart that was converted into a 4 seater. I followed your other video about setting the governor but is there an engine swap that I can do to get more power and still get the quiet elements from the cart? I’m just curious, but I love your channel and appreciate your content!
We have been getting asked that exact same question over and over. So we have been working hard behind the scenes for several months now to come up with some solutions. We have teamed up with some of the top companies in the industry to come up with some awesome products that will give you all the speed and power you want based on your budget. We worked hard to insure that all of our upgrades won't have any effect on the reliability, handling, and quietness of the Quietech. We plan to have some videos coming out in the next couple months to explain what the options are and how to install them. Keep an eye out for those videos and the new products getting added to the website soon. www.powerequipmentman.com Thanks for watching!
Also, any knowledge on adding a fuel gauge to a 2017 yamaha quietech? There’s one video online but it doesn’t apply to my cart. I’m curious if it’s better to try and fit an aftermarket sending unit to the left of the gas cap or try replacing my fuel pump with a newer version that included the sending unit and work out the wiring.
@@MatthewGarrett22 That is on our to-do list as well. Our plan was to find a manufacturer that could make us just the fuel sending unit to attach to the fuel pump, then add the wiring to the dash and a gauge. To buy a PTV fuel pump with the sending unit already on it is around $400, so we would like to find a cheaper alternative. Hopefully this winter we will have time to work on that project.
Is there a problem adjusting the governor out on a PTV EFI? Does it hurt to run it often at the higher RPM? Will the onboard computer handle the change OK? Oil overflow into exhaust? thks
It does not hurt to tighten the governor down to get more speed, but I don't recommend holding it at wide open throttle for long runs (1/2 mile or more). I will have a video coming out on this in the next couple weeks. Thanks for watching!
@@PowerEquipmentMan I’m thinking of buying a concierge 4 with the ire rear facing seat. What do i need to do extra for the added weight also I’m going to put a lift kit on it.
@@stevesmith7704 You shouldn't need to change anything on the suspension to be able to handle that amount of weight. If you are wanting more power and speed other than just turning the governor up, you would have to look into Plowman's performance kits.
Hello Jonas. I've got a 2017 fleet with added rear seat. I'm only getting 11-12 mph top speed although the initial acceleration seems good. I'm considering lifting 3" and adding tires/wheels. What else would you recommend to get me to 17-20mph top speed? Spoke to dealer and they "can't" mess with the governor.
Turn the governor up and add some 19" tires (no lift) should get you to 17+. I hate doing lift kits as it kills the ride quality and handling of the cart. ua-cam.com/video/0alQmCsEUc0/v-deo.html
Yes, it is possible. It helps to loosen/remove the two bolts holding the shield between the battery and the engine in place. Then you can lay that shield over a bit to give you more room the get the battery out the top.
I have a 2018 Yamaha gas cart - I believe it is a fleet cart that has been modified. Are the fleet carts carbureted and the drive 2 EFI? I was told it was EFI but there is no way imo. Thanks for any help. I’ve looked all over the net.
If it is a 2018 then it is a Drive2 model. The Drive2 gas carts come in 3 different options; carbureted, EFI, and Quietech EFI. If you can email me a picture of your engine bay, I can tell you which one you have - sales@powerequipmentman.com
@@PowerEquipmentMan I really appreciate the response. I will definitely shoot you an email later tonight with a picture. I smell fuel when I pull it in the garage, I'm assuming it is carbureted which is a bummer bc I was mislead by the seller.
@sullie35 it's possible that someone changed them out, but it didn't come with them from the factory. If it has high speed gears, it should do at least 19 mph or more.
@PowerEquipmentMan Thank you for all your expertise on these Yamaha's. I went ahead and bought it and it doesn't have the high speed gearing as you said it wouldnt...so I turned up the tension on the governor to the limit of where you stated in another video by tightening the 10mm nut and used GPS to determine the speed and it does exactly 19mph and sounded like probably around 3500 rpm...but the check engine light came on and no flashes..Just stays on...I had already checked the oil before I bought it and it was clean and full...after the light came on I checked the oil again and it's full right at the line on the stick. I'm not sure what to do as Yamahas website shows the nearest yamaha service center is like 4 or 5hrs away in Michigan...I feel like I A. Should have bought a carburetorated cart or a ezgo or club car... Always had the older yamahas and starting to wish I never bought this because of all the diagnostics that have to be done on a efi versus a carbed cart... May you can give me some advice on this.....I hate doing this cause it's like begging for free information..and thats not my style but don't know what else to do...
@@sullie35 Usually if the light just stays on, it is the low oil sensor. I have seen those sensors fail before. It would be pretty easy to test if it is a bad sensor by just unplugging the sensor. It is on the backside of the engine with just one wire plugged into it. The Yamaha EFI system is pretty simple, there really isn't much to go wrong with them. If the cart is running fine, I'm sure it's nothing big. You can't go off of the Yamaha dealer locator. It usually only shows the big dealers or distributors. Chances are there is a smaller Yamaha dealer somewhere close to you. Google works best to find them.
What do you think about non-lifted with these off-road tires? How does it handle off-road bumps & hills? Easy? If I can get away with it, I'd rather not lift my 2021 PTV.
These carts do exceptionally well off road if they have a decent set of tires on it them like this blue cart does. I do not recommend putting a lift kit on a Drive 2 if you don't have to. The tires on this cart are a 20x10x10 and I don't have any rubbing issues. Thanks for watching!
Ok so if I buy this brand new where do I take it to get it customized for street use with extra lights speakers etc... I'm assuming that this can be done right?

A fleet cart with stock tires will run around 17-18 mph pretty easy. Taller tires will get you a couple more mph. A PTV model has taller gears in the rear diff and will go 19.5 from the factory on 20" tires and can be turned up to 23-24mph pretty easy.
In our gas vs electric comparison video, we did a drive by sound test of the Quietech vs an electric RXV. It's towards the end of the video. Thanks for watching!

@@PowerEquipmentMan What are the pros and cons of a Umax vs PTV with a bed added? Both would be gas. Does the PTV ride better because of the independent rear suspension? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
The Umax is more of a utility machine. It can handle heavier loads and has more power and a better clutch setup to handle those loads, but is going to ride rougher. The PTV will ride better and be quieter, but the bed will be quite a bit smaller, won't dump, and have a lot less payload capacity.

A fleet model will be set around 13 from the factory and can be turned up to around 19 mph. A PTV model will be set at 19 and can be turned up to around 25.
Gas carts will handle hills better then electric carts will. However the PTV models are geared higher so they will have less bottom end torque. If you need more power, I would look into do a Plowman's Kit.
Have to disagree a little in regards to drive2 vs carbureted. My 2016 carbureted is way quicker than the quiet tech drive 2. I test drove a 2024 and as i went up the incline of a bridge, i went from 17mph to 15mph. On my carbureted model on the same incline went from 17 to 18mph. Some guys here in the villages are so distraught with lack of pick up that they are removing the spark arrester to try and gain some pick up. It literally bogs down upon initial acceleration which is dangerous.
Yes, the Quietechs are rated for more hp than the older models, but due to higher gearing and intake and exhaust restrictions, they definitely suffer on the hills. However, a Clutch Performance Kit and a few modifications will help gain back a lot of that lost torque. Thanks for watching!
It's very hard to accurately show sound level in a video. Watch the very end of this video for a drive by sound comparison - ua-cam.com/video/SdqF0jHQB0I/v-deo.html
A 1 dB change in a sound equates to about a 26% difference in sound energy (remember that a 3 dB difference is a doubling of energy levels). In terms of subjective loudness, a 1 dB change yields just over a 7% change. A 3 dB change yields a 100% increase in sound energy and just over a 23% increase in loudness. Reality is most people cant perceive a 1db difference.
If it is brand new (less than an hour on the meter), it takes a while for the muffler to burn off the coating. The best thing you can do is go on a couple long drives. If it has more hours than that, it could have old fuel in it. If it is a 2024, it has probably been sitting somewhere for 6 months or more, and if nobody put fuel stabilizer in it, then the fuel could be going bad.
Hello there first time here! Under 20 mph? That’s exactly why I did not buy one! Now I do know someone that took an older carburetor gas engine Yamaha, that was HOT! Could run up to 30 mph!!! But not for cruising! The best cruising speed was still around 25 mph, that is still a little fast on an engine not designed for that constant speed. So that is why I bought a new in 2018, Tomberlin SS Coupe two seat 48 v AC LSV, that’s able to cruise at 25 for as long as the batteries last, that’s about 25-28 miles, or 40 miles in low speed up to 15 mph. Yes I did test drive a 2018 Yamaha Quiet Drive II, when in the market looking, I had actually decided on one, till I discovered the new mandatory fuel injection engine was a sealed computer control system, that would possibly require a dealer flash of sorts, if that’s even possible, but I’m sure would negate any warranty! Plus the 55+ community I live in has a not really in writing no go for gas carts, mainly due to their outdated thinking! It’s too bad, I really liked the ride, but would have speed anxiety! Like the only saying goes, “it’s more fun to drive a slow vehicle fast, than a fast vehicle slow”. But the slow vehicle must have some higher compatibility speeds!
The Quietech PTV EFI can pretty easily run 23+ mph without causing any engine issues, buy just turning the governor up with a 10mm wrench (no dealer help needed). And you can go that fast for 250 miles!! I have heard of guys getting 28 mph or more out of them though. There would never be any reason to do anything to the computer on them. I am not a big fan of the Tomberlins, I have seen more of them then I can count sitting in the junk yards because they are a nightmare to get parts for and fix. Most of the time it just isn't cost effective to fix them when they break down. Good luck with yours. Thanks for watching.
@@PowerEquipmentMan yea it was tough getting parts for Tomberlin carts a few years ago. However Tomberlin has partnered up with PACAR, that’s helped the situation with all types of issues, especially parts. I have personally been to the expanded facilities in Leesburg Florida, where I was instructed by Tomberlin to bring my cart when the steering system,(that at the time was fairly new) that had no recent issues recorded, seemed to have stripped? With the steering wheel moving and the wheels both, unless I was rolling, there would just be a sensation like stripped gears. So I trailered my cart up, only to have them find the female end of the universal between the power steering box an steering rack had stripped the splines off where the shaft goes. All they needed to do was look it up on a computer, walk over into the 5,000 sq ft warehouse facility to pull a universal out of a parts bin, install an I was on my way. Only after the Gen. Manager had given me a tour, showing me the new 2019’s coming out! That told me that issue was addressed. It’s been two years since, with only the built in charger needed replacement under warranty from its manufacturer, sent to my dealer before I brought it up! Another incident of fantastic service!!!

The ride is worse for sure, and I have camber issue in the front. Nothing can be done because it's a drop spindle and not adjustable.
What would you consider a lot of hours on a Quiet tech. Is 1400 hundred hours a lot 2019 model
Really hoped you were going to demo what it sounds like compared to the 2016. :/
Sorry but we didn't have any G29s available when we shot this video. It is noticeably quieter than G29.
Really new to these. Question. Where do you put your golf clubs?
The cart used in this video has a rear seat kit installed to haul four people around. From the factory this cart just comes with the front seat for two people and golf bag holders on the back.
@@PowerEquipmentMan So once the rear seats are installed, there is no way to hold golf clubs? Thank you!
@@PowerEquipmentMan Thank you. Like I mentioned I am new to these carts. Your answers are much appreciated.
@@PowerEquipmentMan Thanks bro!!
@@PowerEquipmentMan can you do a video of installing a rear seat on one of these
thx for the review!
Any suggestions for a golf bag rack for the 4 seater?
Awesome, thank you so much!
Excellent, I’m looking forward to the upcoming content and thanks for your helpful videos!
What about changing the filter on the quitech? Is that easy to get at?
If you are asking about the oil filter, they don't have one. And the fuel filter is inside the tank so you don't change it.
Can you change the battery without removing the body? Thanks
Yes, it is possible. It helps to loosen/remove the two bolts holding the shield between the battery and the engine in place. Then you can lay that shield over a bit to give you more room the get the battery out the top.
Thank you so much for your response. Can you give me more information about where these two bolts are that holds the shield in place? Thank you again.
Hi Jonas, I'm looking at buying a 2012 Yamaha gas PTV and wondering if these came the high speed gear as standard equipment.
No, none of the Drive models came with high speed gears. Yamaha didn't start doing the high speed gears until the 2017 and newer Drive2 PTV models.
@PowerEquipmentMan darn almost there to buy it. It'd a 2012 PTV and was hoping it did. The place I'm buying it from said it did...but I believe you
@sullie35 it's possible that someone changed them out, but it didn't come with them from the factory.
I had an opportunity to test out a Yamaha drive to quiet tech 2019 and the gas fumes was unbearable. What would cause such high gas films?
It seems like some carts are worse than others. I think a lot of it has to do with the condition and quality of fuel that is in them.
I NOTICED THAT TOUR CART HAS 20X10X10 TIRES. WILL THESE TIRES FIT ON A NON LIFTED DRIVE2
Yes, a non lifted Drive2 can clear a 20" tall tire. If you have a rear seat, you will have to do HD rear shocks or a 19" tire (215/40/12).
@@PowerEquipmentMan Can you jump a curb with this cart? Not that I'll do a lot of it, but I wouldn't want it to rub underneath.
We have a new 2022 DR2 PTV Quiettech. We are experiencing an extremely rough ride, it feels like you’re riding in a buckboard. Any suggestions?
Check your tire pressure. Set to 12 psi.
Does your cart have a lift kit?
Ok so if I buy this brand new where do I take it to get it customized for street use with extra lights speakers etc... I'm assuming that this can be done right?
Do you have any local golf cart shops? If you buy a PTV model we sell the turn signal upgrade kit here - powerequipmentman.com/collections/golf-cart-accessories/products/yamaha-ptv-turn-signal-kit
We have a ton of how-to and installation videos for most of the products we sell so you can work on your own cart.
What would you say is the max speed without over reving the motor and doing damage to it? Thanks.
A fleet cart with stock tires will run around 17-18 mph pretty easy. Taller tires will get you a couple more mph. A PTV model has taller gears in the rear diff and will go 19.5 from the factory on 20" tires and can be turned up to 23-24mph pretty easy.
Nice video, except that it would've been great for a test drive and a chance to hear it running.
In our gas vs electric comparison video, we did a drive by sound test of the Quietech vs an electric RXV. It's towards the end of the video.

Is the chassis made of steel or aluminum?
Yamaha carts are all steel chassis.
A drive 2 is not a g29.
G29 was the gen before the drive 2.
G29 was a 2 piece body where as the drive 2 is a 5 piece body
Does the PTV come standard with heavier rear shock for rear seats?

Have 2 new PTV 2021 and the j shaped brackets holding the backrest and roof to frame have broken on both my carts right at the weld spot. The carts rattle like crazy. I got new parts from dealer and installed myself but is there a better solution? I expect this to break again. The rear seat kit is from MadJaxs . Any better +2 seating?
If your machine is vibrating that much you need to take them to a dealer to have them checked out. I have been installing the madjax rear seats for years and have one installed on my personal Quietech and never seen a broken bracket. You might make sure you don't have a "burnt" spot in your belt causing excessive vibration, watch this video - ua-cam.com/video/zofX6p3TrdM/v-deo.html
Does anyone offer a bed option for the PTV or do you have to go with the Umax if you want a rear bed.
Yes, you can put a bed on a PTV model. Here is a link to the one we commonly use. Note - this is NOT a dumping bed. If you are interested in order one, please email us - sales@powerequipmentman.com rhox.com/pc_product_detail.asp?key=6F8CF5148D524ECE9F32D1E7F17DD021
What size wheel&tires are those? And is that stock height?
Those are a 20x10x10 tire/wheel. No that cart does not have a lift kit. If you get a PTV model they come with a 20" tall tire from the factory. Watch this - ua-cam.com/video/EKJCcAOFlB4/v-deo.html
how fast does it go
A fleet model will be set around 13 from the factory and can be turned up to around 19 mph. A PTV model will be set at 19 and can be turned up to around 25.
How is this cart with steep inclines

I dident catch the price I’m looking for a quiet cart and can’t find the price
The PTV models like this one are going to start out around $7800 or so.

@@PowerEquipmentMan Thank you. Very nice.
Only one decibel. Only one? Except a 1 dB change in a sound equates to about a 26% difference in sound energy. Didn't bother telling you that did he.
I would like to see your math on how you came up with this percentage?
A 1 dB change in a sound equates to about a 26% difference in sound energy (remember that a 3 dB difference is a doubling of energy levels). In terms of subjective loudness, a 1 dB change yields just over a 7% change. A 3 dB change yields a 100% increase in sound energy and just over a 23% increase in loudness. Reality is most people cant perceive a 1db difference.
Why does my brand new 2024 stink of exaust it smells so bad the thing is brand new
If it is brand new (less than an hour on the meter), it takes a while for the muffler to burn off the coating. The best thing you can do is go on a couple long drives.
If it has more hours than that, it could have old fuel in it. If it is a 2024, it has probably been sitting somewhere for 6 months or more, and if nobody put fuel stabilizer in it, then the fuel could be going bad.
@ I put about 200 miles on it in two days. I used all the gas up now I put ethanol free. The smell seems to be gone.
Review without any video of the Cart running? Smh
