    I bought a used fleet cart, i adjusted governor and got it to 18 mph, but the acceleration going up hills is very weak. My dads quietech is way faster uphill. Will adjustung throttle cable help with accelleration? Thanks

    Different subject for Yamaha gas golf cart. I'm switching a BreezEasy fan from a 2008 to a 2013 gas Yamaha, but read a converter is needed even though both carts are 12 volts or I risk damaging the fan, Is that correct? If so, can you describe the converter to help find it in the 2008 cart? Many thanks!

    • @PowerEquipmentMan
      @PowerEquipmentMan  2 дні тому

      Sorry, I don't have much info on this as I have never installed any of those fans. However, I can tell you that there is no difference in the electrical system between a 2008 and a 2013 G29.
      I would recommend contacting the fan manufacturer and confirming with them.

      @@PowerEquipmentMan Have you ever seen any issues where the cart will crank and struggle to start after doing this? This seemed to start being an issue about a month after the mod. Swapped the battery since it was the original and it still exists. Ex: Press the pedal, cranks, cranks, cranks, small backfire pop and then starts. Sometimes it wont do anything or it'll be a sold 10-15 second delay before it starts. May just be coincidental but curious if it could be with something with these adjustements.

      @@nicks6913 Hard starting is a common issue with these carts, but it has nothing to do with the governor. From what we have been able to figure out, it seems to have something to do with the fuel pump/vapor lock. We have not been able to find a cure for it, but it seems the best thing to do is press the pedal about 1/4 of way down and hold for a couple seconds, then release, wait a couple seconds and try again.

    Hello, thanks for all the Drive 2 videos! I owned a G1 for years and finally have decided to get a new cart. I purchased a 23’ Adventurer 2+2. I learned from your videos that the Drive 2 PTV has the higher speed gears, and does 19 mph stock. They are advertising the Adventurer does 14.9 mph stock- can the Adventurer be turned up (governor and throttle cable) to run 20s or does it have a different ECU tune that limits it to the slower speed? I’m planning to title this as an LSV in Florida, it must do 20 mph minimum to qualify. Thank you!

      If it's brand new you need to let the engine break in for awhile until you try to turn it up anymore. Do your first oil change after about 5 hours of run time. I have a 2018 EFI quiet tech and was able to reach and adjust the governor nut from above the gas tank with no big issues. I used a 1/4 ratchet with a locking button on it because the socket will fall off of most other ratchets. Position the handle above the throttle cable and you can work the nut about 1/4 turn with each ratchet. I am a pretty big guy and my hands are not small but I could do it with no big issues. It seems like club car has been struggling to make a good cart since they discontinued the DS. I live in Kansas, so an aluminum frame means nothing to me (we don't have rust problems here). I used to be a big club car DS guy years ago, but for gas carts Yamaha Drive/Drive 2 out sell Club Car any day. All manufacturers are making gas carts now that go 19 mph from the factory and they can all be sped up another couple mph past that with just adjusting the governor. • @PowerEquipmentMan
      @PowerEquipmentMan  3 роки тому +1

      I would guess that you have an issue with your throttle cable being too tight. You should be able to turn your governor up and not have any jerkiness at low speed. If you watch the butterfly opening on the top of the carb/throttle body, with the key off, you should hear the click of the microswitch before the butterfly starts to move. If your carb starts to open too early (before the engine starts to crank) it will make it take off too fast. You also need to make sure that the butterfly is closing all the way when you are not pressing the throttle. It could be dirty and not allowing it to close all the way. If thats the issue it would require doing a carb clean.

      @@jimrogers1500 running at a higher RPM is going to cause a little more wear on your engine (shorten engine life). So for example, these engines are rated at a 20 year lifespan from Yamaha, so by turning the governor up and running at wide open throttle for an hour straight, your engine life may go from 20 years down to 15 years. A lot of it depends on how well the cart is maintained and how many hours per year you are putting on your cart. There really isn't any exact science to it. Luckily, these engines are fairly inexpensive to rebuild, so it's not that big of a deal. Most people won't own their cart for long enough to ever have to worry about rebuilding the engine.

    GREAT Video (as Usual)! Does governor adjustment help in Any way to solve my 2017 Drive 2 (carb) backfiring immediately after a long downhill descent or slow off road maneuver ?? Thanks for any advice you have re fixing backfiring Drive 2s! .... And PLEASE continue ur GREAT videos on Yamaha carts !!

    • @PowerEquipmentMan
      @PowerEquipmentMan  2 роки тому

      Backfires are usually caused by the carb not fully closing all the way when the pedal is released. This could be from the throttle cable being adjusted too tight or the carb being dirty/gummed up. Try checking your cable adjustment first.

      I don't recommend holding the throttle wide open for extended periods of time (1/2 mile or more) after adjusting your governor like this. Also you should make sure that the air intake screen on the flywheel side of your engine isn't packed full of grass and leaves. That is where the air is drawn in to cool your engine.

      @@PowerEquipmentMan that’s what I was told when looking at a new Quiet Drive 2, back in the spring of 2018, as I waited for our new retirement home to be built. We were camping for 4 mo., so I had a long time to go from dealer to dealer, looking and test driving. I was going to order one, till I found out 19-22 mph was the most you could get out of a new one. I even looked under the body to see for myself and there was no mechanical governor to be found. I will admit that the Yamaha Quiet Drive 2, is the best riding an handling carts out there. Until I found the cart I bought. A 218 Tomberlin SS Coupe, 48v AC cart. That’s loaded with features that make it a real LSV, that no others have. Like power steering for one! Real DOT safety glass tinted windshield and wiper, hydraulic 4 wheel brakes with drill/slotted rotors, automatic electric parking brake. Speedometer/Odometer, 8, 6 volt Trojan Deep Cycle led acid batteries, full length color matched roof, independent coil over front suspension and adjustable coil over rear suspension, 265/5-12 radial tires, two locking glove boxes an trunk, all LED lights with self cancel turn signals, hi/low headlights, parking an stop with third stop up on the roof. Automotive type shoulder belts, plus locking keyed on off acc switch, with forward/reverse hi/low speed controls up near the steering wheel. The new ones have even more, like a control center on an 8” touch screen! With backup camera. The best part is the performance! I’ve gone 40 miles in one day on one charge, with a built in charger. Also with the motor rated at 17 hp, with a 14:1 drive ratio I can cruise at 25 mph, just feathering the go pedal, u to 27 if held down on a fresh charge! My wife has a 2019 EzGo, TXT 72 volt cart, that almost does wheelies on takeoff it’s so quick, but looses it at 15 mph and slowly gets to 24-25, mine is kind of soft in comparison off the line, but once rolling? Really get going! That’s one of the advantages of AC electric motors! The cart might ride a little harder than the Yamaha, but handles like a Go Cart! Love it! I plan on buying a new one possibly next year, when Tomberlin comes out with Lithium tech batteries!

      If you are not familiar with the Quietech models, they have a FULL SKID PLATE that would have to be removed to get to the governor from underneath. Removing the skid plate is much more difficult then removing the rear access panel, and by removing the access panel you can actually SEE what you are doing.

    Someone on another video said this and I'm wondering if this is true and a concern? I don't know much about golf carts or their governors. "Over adjusting that setting will cause the governor to come apart inside the transmission. Use some caution when you do this. ( I've been a golf cart technician since 2005) If the governor comes apart it will make it's way to the ring gear and break the transmission case."

      I have heard that too. I have been building carts as long as you have. I have turned the governor up on every one of them. Never seen a governor fail on any cart I have built or any cart I have ever worked on. I am usually more concerned with engine RPMs than governor/transaxle issues.

    Well done! You have a gift. I have a street legal 2014 Yamaha DRIVE-R Gas Golf Cart that I've adjusted. Problem, I think, is that the starter motor engages late. The pedal has to be pressed 2 or 3 inches before it starts. Gas motor starts right after that. It was like this before adjustment and the actual reason for adjustment was the carb not opening fully when pedal was to the floor. Any ideas why the starter motor starts late?

    • @PowerEquipmentMan

      I would guess that the sensor that is mounted on the side of your throttle pedal is bad. You could test it with an ohm meter if you have one. It should change from open to closed as soon as the pedal starts to move.
      My other guess would be you might need new brushes in your starter/generator. They have to be removed and inspected to see if they are worn down to the indicator line yet. But start with the sensor first. Thanks for watching

      @@PowerEquipmentMan boy was I off base. The electric motor sensor was fine. It turns on right when pedal is pushed as it should. The problem is that the butterfly does not open on the carb until the pedal is pushed down 2 to 3 inches. When the pedal is pushed to the floor it opens the butterfly fully so I can't just back it off or it won't go full throttle. Unlike a lawn mower cable that you can adjust the actual length of the cable, both ends are "fixed" so I don't know how to get more travel out of it. Can I in fact get more travel by adjusting the 2 ends of the cable or do I need to make the adjustment at the govenor? Any help is greatly appreciated.
