    Great comprehensive look. I've raced both pairs of SIDI and Brian is spot on. The Vortice, while fantastic is cumbersome to put on/take off. And it has gotten caught up on rearsets several times in competitive setting. The Mag1 is by far, a superior boot that gets your foot closer to the chassis and is much easier to put on/take off. The rebuildability is worth the extra money for any racers or avid track riders. A boot like the Mag1 can be crashed multiple times and always function to its fullest capacity due to spare parts replacements. And the ventilation is great.

    For anyone with wider feet like I have. I can say the Forma Ice Pro/Flow are too narrow for me personally.
    Then I got the Dainese D1 torque out. Got a between a 42 EU/9 US and 43 EU/10 US size. 43 EU/10 US fits me really good. They are very comfortable from the get go just like he said. Also you get in and out very fast and easy. No hard pulling etc. And I got them for 240 EUR off a Dainese dealer. The perfect deal :)

    Vortice have (i think) superior protection for ankle twist in an accident. I'll take that for the extra 30-45 seconds it takes to put one on. I've gone down and messed up my ankle in cheaper boots so i want the maximum protection i can get, but i don't ride on a track so i have not experienced any problem with my rear sets being set up like a race bike. Love your vids and keep them coming!

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  7 років тому

      Ankle protection from all of the boots included in this is top shelf IMO. I would not ride in a boot on track that lacked proper protection for the ankle. Like I said I wouldn't throw any of these ladies out of bed, all great. End of the day the Mag-1 represents the evolution of the Vortice and it shows when you compare them. That said the difference would not be enough to get me to replace a pair of Vortice Boots before they needed to be retired. - Van

      Sportbike Track Gear I had a good long look at the Mag 1 before making my purchase of the Vortice, and while entry and exit of the boot is a bitc*.. i would trade that all day long for the extra protection that the vortice offers me in relation to a twistin motion that may be applied to my ankle or lower foot to break it.. that extra skeleton of the vortice is by far at least twice as beefy as the Mag 1 is.. Mag 1 had almost 0 resitance to torsion while i held it in my hand, and i could do pretty much whatever i felt like doing with the upper half of the foot, as i was able to rotate it at will with ease.. not at all the same with the Vortice.. but yes.. you do have to reserve 3 - 5 minutes to put them on.. i have no problem with that.. level of protection is far better in my oppinion.. Great video btw !

    First of, excellent video. Probably the best comparison vid for high end boots I've seen, and love that you included a part where you put on the boots and actually time it. 2 thumbs up for that! My next pair will likely be either the Mag-1 or Supertech R, mainly based on the info in this vid. Oh, and I don't mind the length at all. Just right and packed with relevant details to help someone shopping around make an educated decision.
    That said, my current pair is the Dainese Axial Pro In, and while I do have Dainese leathers it connects to for track and spirited riding, I find it to be extremely comfortable even for daily riding use with a pair of kevlar jeans or such. The velcro connection system helps, but I don't think it is absolutely necessary to have a Dainese suit to enjoy these boots. Heck, if it weren't for variety's sake I'd probably just get another pair of these, but have been meaning to give other brands a go.

Most Factory riders were the Tec R BUT THERE SPONSORED. I decided to go with the SIDI Mag ! vented. What a better boot in every way but comfort BUT I need to break in these boots like in the old days when you would get a good pair of work shoes. The MAG 1 is the way to go. RICK

    I have a set of Vortices and hesitate to replace them with something else since they are still in great shape even after a couple crashes. I'd gravitate towards the Mag1s but am disappointed they don't have replaceable sole inserts like the Vortice. In three seasons I've gone through 3 or four sole inserts (Vortex pegs are killer on boots) and love being able to install them myself instead of taking them to a cobbler to replace the entire sole. I have had one instance in three years of the external bracing catching on my rear sets, so it happens but rarely. Love these Jan/Feb 2017 buying guide videos you guys are putting together!

    I have the Vortice. 2nd pair I have bought them both off of you. I crashed on the first set at 110mph.
    They held up with just minor scrapes.
    I'll admit that they are an absolute pain in the ass to put on. But they feel bulletproof in comparison to anything else I have held or tried on.

    I had the Sidi Vortice & raced in them for a year, plus a couple of years' of track weekends. Really enjoyed them, until a) I tried to buy the replacement sole insert - could not find any online, my local Sidi dealer could not source them. He finally read Sidi's North American's rep the riot act, said he would stop carrying Sidi entirely if they wouldn't actually supply the parts to their boots, and low & behold, they finally became available. b) I was on a hill country weekend ride a year or two ago, after the boots had been on the shelf for several years. The soles literally disintegrated - crumbled into pieces. I had a friend walk to a nearby dollar store, buy a roll of duct tape, and wrapped the boot up in duct tape so I could make it back to the hotel. 0/10 would never buy Sidi again.

      Sportbike Track Gear Thanks for the reply.
      As a long time user of Daytona boots, every time that I have replaced the outer's or an entirely new boot, I have had to do so through them directly without fault and my understanding is that their dealers around the world have a direct line of communication with the factory and not a potentially diluted affair through a large regional/national distributor and then the factory.
      I've found them to be very good to deal with. It's just a shame that you don't see stores carry them.

I want a sporty boot with lot's of feel and flexibility. I tried the supertech's at my local dealer and they are hard to zip up for me..but once everything is closed and locked it feels great. • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  4 роки тому +1

      I would not say the SMX are any easier to zip up than the Supertech R Boots. This is something that typically gets easier as the boots break in. If you are looking for more flexibility the SMX boots are more flexible than the Supertech R Boots. - Van

    which one of these has the greatest ankle vertical flex for shifting? I can't stand having to shift with my whole leg rather from my ankle, even if it's until break in. For dirt boots I've always bought the Sidi Crossfires because that was the only boot out of the box that had ankle flex like a sneaker. I've returned several AlpineStars and Gaerne boots because they all felt like wearing a cast in my foot.

That said, I do have a "D" width foot, don't know if that somehow explains it. (I should add that I have the 2016 boot - maybe that can explain the difference)

      I have had every generation of the Alpinestars Supertech R Boot and this has been the case from day 1. We have also sold hundreds of them since they were introduced always offering the same sizing advice and our return/exchange rate on them is near zero. All that said there is an exception to every rule. Going down one full size in this boot will be the right call 99% of the time. - Van

    Which one of these feel the closest to a sneaker? I need perfect footbrake control for stuntriding, which sneakers are great for, but I just saw my friend get his foot get smashed into bits (literally) by his stuntcage. Needless to say it scared me shitless, so I'm looking for some major foot protection while still being able to feel the footbrake like in sneakers. Appreciate if you could recommend a model!

    Hey Brian,
    Greater video as always. Question about the Sidi boots, how come the soles are different? The Vortice seems to have a replaceable and reinforced section where the ball of your foot rests on the footpeg. This is usually a weak spot in boot soles; especially Sidis I have owned. How come Mag-1 is different?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  7 років тому

      End of the day the replaceable sole in the Vortice is a cool feature but we do not see as many replacements sell as expected. I feel that is why that feature is not on the Mag-1. - Van

    I have the alpine starts SMX v2’s, I never wear them because the toe is so thick I can’t feel the gear shift. I do realize that the levers have to be adjusted to add room for the larger boot, but the problem is, I can’t feel the bike changing gears, no more “click” into place feel. I think you all understand that subtle “click” obviously the neutral click as well. For some reason the boots just make the bike feel foreign to me and I’m sure you guys can imagine the obvious issues of downshifting an extra gear. Does anyone know if it is just this model of boot that is giving me issues? Are the sidi boots as thick over the top of the foot?
    I’m trying to find something that “feels” a little better because even with the added safety of the boots. One could argue its far less safe to feel unnatural on your own bike. Especially on the track.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  5 років тому

      The Sidi boots are thinner on top as compared to many of the Astars models. It is not a massive difference, still they are a bit thinner. I have ridden in several different boots and can say for sure they all feel a little different. With each of the different boots I take the bike out for a session to see where I am at and make adjustments from there to get things where they need to be.
      Reading this I would suggest adjusting the shift pedal then ride in the boots more to get them broken in. - Van

    Hi Brian, i have a question about the SIDI ST boot which was not included in this video.
    I am thinking of buying the TCX R-S2 EVO or the SIDI ST, which one do you think offers greater protection?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  6 років тому

      These 2 models offer a very similar level of protection IMO. Either one is an excellent option, we have sold hundreds of each with very good feedback. I have used both myself, felt safe in them and enjoyed riding in them. Review the features they offer to see which one speaks to you and go with them. Merry Christmas - Brian Van

      The most comfortable are the Alpinestars Supertech R Boots, they also offer excellent feel as well. If feel is #1 the Sidi Mag-1 has a touch more still with good comfort. IMO you will be very happy with either one of these boots. I own both and swap back and fourth all the time. - Brian Van

    Is there a reason you didn't include the Dainese Axiel pro in boot?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  7 років тому

      Yes it is because they are only really able to be used if you wear a Dainese Race Suit. End of the day I wanted to focus on boots that would work for most anyone looking for a top level race boot. The Axial Pro are excellent boots and would be a solid choice if you have Dainese gear that is compatible. - Van

    hey brian, as much as i love your video's i don't have 28 min of my time to waste on watching the whole deal, so in this way its easyer to look at revzilla's reviews. can i reccomend that you make a menu at the start where we can click on each different boot and skip with that through the video? this way if the first boot doesn't suit my style i can easely navigate to the next one.

    • @Nightdare

      This video wasn't about which boots best match your makeup, might as well go watch the manufacturer's promo vids if you are so hung up on aesthetics
      It also doesn't take much effort to slide the progress bar to skip to the boots you want to see

  • @teesea77

    I currently have Sidi MAG 1 and it's a massive regret. To start with I had to go 1.5 sizes up which is very unusual and even then, after over a year of riding in them, they kill my feet whenever I have to walk more than a kilometer or so. They are super narrow and the toe slider must have some sort of a fitting placed right where my little toe is and even though you cannot fell it when you put your fingers inside the boot it must affect the general shape. Also, the little plastic slider that opens up the front vent- after a few months it is so difficult to open/close it that I need to use a knife or some other sharp object as I nearly lost a fingernail when I tried to slide it open. I wish I had got the Dainese ones - when I tried those on once they were so much more comfortable straight from the box whereas the Sidi felt like concrete moulds. I was hoping it was temporary. How wrong was I...

    • @Nightdare
      @Nightdare 6 років тому

      Apart from your other issues, you have to admit that these boots are specifically made for riding, not walking
      I have a pair of Sidi Cobras, and even though they aren't half as rigid as my ST's (which are a step below racing spec to yours), they still aren't boots you want to walk in for more than a mile or 2

    • @teesea77
      @teesea77 6 років тому

      You're probably right- they are made for riding mainly but if such an expensive shoe cannot handle a bit of walking and has all the issues I listed then it is overpriced or badly designed. I've tried on other high-end racing boots at a recent motorbike show and none felt so stiff. Pity I hadn't had a chance to try MAGs on before buying as I still believe that good protection on a shoe doesn't mean it should feel like a concrete block on my feet.

    • @Nightdare
      @Nightdare 6 років тому

      "...but if such an expensive shoe cannot handle a bit of walking.."
      I must stress that these top-end boots are not anywhere designed with walking in mind
      (which is why on the Vortice, they even took the liberty of placing bolts under the replaceable soles)
      they are made to race with and protect in a crash, they are stiff and hard to provide absolute feedback on the bike, this works counterproductive to desiring comfort while strolling over the boulevard
      Any rider on the track that has long pauses between sessions will probably take them off
      But you still have my sympathies on the other issues you're facing concerning fit and quality
      (Though I have no issues and love the fitment, I happen to have bad luck with SIDI zippers breaking)

    Iv had issues with my SMX plus boots. it seems a little narrow around the calf and as a result the zipper never stays closed, if i ever do manage to wrestle the zipper up onto the velcro, within a minute its back down around my ankle.. Out of the boots listed here, which ones would offer a better fit? Im leaning towards the Mag 1's but the Supertech R's seem pretty cool and more comfortable

    is the replaceable sole on the Vortice not a good enough reason to get those over the MAG-1? For me entry and exit speed isn't an issue and I have smaller feet so I don't hit rear sets so for me the determining factor (I think) is longevity which I feel having the Vortice with more replacement parts would fit that bill more than the MAG-1. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    • @medina23
      @medina23 7 років тому +1

      Mag1 is a far superior boot in many ways. Yes, I was bummed about the lack of a replaceable sole, but worth the upgrade not having that so far.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  7 років тому +1

      For riders that have issues going through the soles of the boots the Vortice is an excellent option. Our sales of the replacement soles for this boot are not overwhelming because most riders never find the need to replace them. While the Vortice is an excellent boot I feel the Mag-1 is an improvement which speaks volumes about how good the Mag-1 really is. - Van

    I ordered a pair of Forma Ice boots actually waiting on them to be delivered today. I so want a pair of Sidi- Mag 1. I was so tempted to get a pair, however I went with the less expensive. My first pair of Good protective boots.. which is way better than my hiking boots I wear. Sometime I will get a Size 9w ( one size up to a 10) Mens Sidi Mag-1 . Hint hint..lol j.k.
