@@Mama-Ames I wholeheartedly agree with you as I got to hold this adorable 2 to 3 week old kitten that stopped crying the moment I held and comforted her💞
My brother just got a free Maine Coon because his friend found 2 kittens not realizing what breed they might be. He is literally the cutest kitten I’ve ever seen and I work as an animal nurse. He looks like a Pixar character, he’s so adorable.
We have a 16lb male MC cross blissfully asleep on his heated bed in our catio. He is by FAR the most pleasant cat we have had the pleasure to enjoy. And he is such a gentleman. NOT a single bad habit and is also an accomplished mouser as well. Apparentlty he had been returned to the shelter twice when we got him. He is such a happy boy these days and will actually stay in the backyard when he is outside. Never seen a cat do that. Soooooo smart too and when he wants something he will come and get one of us. He talks to us too with trills and chirps. Such a sweet boy.
Love Maine Coons but your opening statement about size is not correct, you stated they get up to 20 lbs, I’ve had 2 males, my first reached 22 lbs and my current one is just over 26 lbs and almost done growing. They reach full size and stop growing after 4-5 years old, he’s almost 4 years.
I was showing my Sphynx cats at a show, and there was the biggest Maine Coon neuter there that I had ever seen. He was a gorgeous brown classic tabby. I started talking with his owner, and found out that he was 18 inches at the shoulder, 40 inches long, and weighed nearly 30 pounds. He was only 2 years old. My male Sphynx weighed 16 pounds, and was big himself, but he looked like a little kitten next to this big boy. Both were grand champions. They had a picture taken together by the show photographer, which I have a copy of. This was back in the mid 90s. (Jan Griffiths).
Wow, let me tell you guys something I was walking out in my woods two months ago and I heard this little cry of a kitten and then this cat ran up my leg and I’ve had her now for almost 3 months come to find out she’s a Maine coontalk about winning a lottery without even knowing it my sister has two Maine coons and my best friend had a Maine coon. I feel like I won $1 million….. i’m using speak to text so forgive me if it comes out weird
We found a Maine Coon at a shelter. A Gentle Ginger Giant. The best of both worlds. A sweet cat who was picked off the streets who gets a home and a shelter fulfills a kitty’s wish to find their forever home.
@@evelyntodd9946 I did wonder. I've had the privilege of a half-Maine Coon "guest" overnight when I used to help with rescue. Turned out his owners were on holiday and neighbours were feeding him (he was an indoor cat). He escaped, followed a lady home who had two Maine Coons who were not impressed by this newcomer. I collected him and took him home overnight until his owners could be contacted as he was microchipped. He was huge but what a laid-back, gentle cat he was. He was reunited next day to very relieved carers. I took a photograph of him. My own cats weren't bothered by him at all. Lovely cat.
I had a Maine Coon for a short while, he was a big fluffy beauty but my tortie, who was a fraction of his size, made his life a living hell. I had to rehome him.
If you have the time and patience, I think most cats, of any breed, can be trained. I think it's important to train all animals the sit and stay, for their own safety, as well as come. My cat will come 80% of the time indoors just by me calling her name and saying, COME, and 95% of the time if she is in her massive outdoor catio, but I often have to use the word COOKIE and then give her one.
I have two tuxedos and one of em is a big boy and he does high five, lay day down, foot, comes on command and even does nice paw to get a cat candy. His brother older and smarter just looks at his younger brother and goes "u idiot the hoooman is the slave u dont have to do tricks to get what u want". Both cats sleep in the bed every night with me . I so fucking love my cats. I will say they are so much better then dogs.
"Normal Cat".......??? 🤔 I will ask my Cat, George, who is 9 years, black fur, if he is "normal".....likely get "the look", licked fingers, some sleep time, or he will walk away and return.....normal-??
Of course God created everything, and exceedingly well, too. He made some of His creatures very adaptable, which was smart, so they wouldn’t become extinct. Thanks God for cats - I love ‘em!

Well that is wrong, large animals have more skin surface and loose heat faster. So cold environment and large is total BS. All animals that evolve in the cold are short and thick not long and skinny.
@@icecreamtruckog3667 No. Larger warm blooded animals lose less heat. This is because they have more mass per inch of skin. They also tend to have shorter limbs. It isn't about total skin surface But the ratio of skin surface to body mass. Smaller animals have more skin in relationship to the mass of their skin. This is why we had magafauna like wooly mammoths during the last glacial period with the largest of the megafauna living in Northern areas. Conversely, Cold blooded animals do get Smaller in cols climates because they gain heat threw their skin. The more skin in relation to mass they have the faster they warm up. What do you think is most shocking about the Maine Coon? 🐈
They're giants🌊
How they shaved a particularly large one and it became famous character actor Ron Perlman

2:39 The Ron Perlman of the cat world!
What I'd like to know is how much cat food a Maine Coon would eat in a day.
I usually fed mine twice a day. One can in the morning and one at night with some treat snacks throughout the day.
I feed a part Maine Coon the same as my other cat. Once they are full grown the two are the same amount.

Adoption is the best way to go. Get 2 kitties, so they can keep each other company!
I prefer "Long-Tailed American House Lynx" for their species moniker.
My first one would take himself on walks. Like someone called because he was a couple miles away.

Being able to talk to my MC is one of the best things.

People pay money for cats? All the cats I've ever had were free
They weren't made to enjoy different environments and are much larger, yet friendly. And not as expensive as other breeds.
big $$. we usually spend up to $500 for even mixed breeds but some cost $1500-$3000 on average. ones withe breed papers are more
Yeah, my cat just walked into my friend's house...and then she was our cat.
Totally. Who buys a cat. It’s gross. Get to a shelter

up to 20lbs? ah... might want to check facts. my biggest male is a bit over 30lbs and he's not fat.
