sad that many large dog breed owners consider cats as inconvenient pests because their dogs often times react viciously to cats. Who is the inconvenience in that equation... Hmmmmmmm......?
I would agree. 4 years ago I was turned down for a PTSD service dog. They said I needed to get better some first. The dog has to be able to help you. My case is on the extreme level and so they said I needed to improve some first. I was crushed. I cried and cried. Later that week a fluffy orange tabby started showing up to eat with the ferals I feed. It got cold one day and he meowed to be let in. I let him in and he has become my fur Angel. I call him my soul kitty. Even though he is not a small cat, he sleeps on top of me and it is so comforting. His purrs help me go back to sleep after a nightmare. Over the past 4 years my nightmares have greatly reduced. I can go outside my house. I could probably get approved for a service dog now but I don’t want Pumpkin to feel usurped so I’m not applying. I already have an Angel.
God called my baby home 28Dec2020, she passed in my arms and i can honestly say it was like losing a family member. I'm very grateful to have had the privilege to be her servant for 14 years. She rode with me as the captain of my truck as i traversed these United States and i feel lost in the sea without her, i seriously doubt she will ever have a replacement. Her name was Taka and i miss her so much.
So sorry. I just put my dog down and we are heartbroken. So glad she lived to 14 I hope all of my cats live to 14 or more. Praying for your heart to heal.
I know exactly how you feel!! When I had to put down both of my dogs (one in 2017, one last year in 2020) and watched them die in my arms, I cried like a sissy who was also a girl!! But now I'm into cats and they are a big learning experience!
I know how you feel! My Maine Coon died 6 years ago, only yesterday did I buy a new kitten (will get him in July) its taken me this many years to “move on” enough to get another cat. I loved him dearly and yes, it is indeed just like losing a family member. Remember although you are heartbroken and you only have known your cat for 14 years, your cat knew you ALL of its life and was happy to be with you! I hope one day when we all die, we are reunited somehow with our lost pets.
I was cuddling my year old Maine Coon so tight while watching this. I found him at a shelter after my 20 year old family cat passed. He’s truly been one of the biggest blessings in my life I am so in love with him.
This video made me cry. I had a Maine Coon named Hagrid. He was a pedigreed from a long line of beauties. He was my familiar and we could read each other's minds. I brushed him every night before bedtime. He was gold with black stripes and white paws. He had a beautiful white ruff under his chin. Watching this brought back such loving memories. I had him for 13 years. Have other cats that I've reached. It's just not the same as my Hagrid. I still miss him and it's been 7 years. He would always make a killer doodoo just as company arrived without fail LOL. It took a couple of years before he became a lap cat. Give them all the live you can.
I always had cats, but when I got a Maine Coon life became all about her. She’s so loving and super affectionate. She comes in the middle of the night to let me know that she’s hungry 😂 I’m in love with this breed of cats.
Yes, they seem to be able to gauge a persons mood, attitude, and such. And they respond to that. I have only approached them once or twice with a marginally poor outlook, poor attitude. They don't want anything to do with me haha. And in that, I mean poor attitude, different than feeling down, because then, they will cuddle often
Their fur is ENDLESS 🤣🤣🤣 It certainly is! Another thing is they love belly rubs/scratches, unlike most cats, which is another dog-like trait. Jesse LIVED for belly scratches, while Sammy (not a Maine) wouldnt let us touch his tummy. Now we have a half Maine named Ziggy and again, he loves the belly scratching while his sister who isnt a Maine aint havin' it! And yep, the cross paws thing. Definitely.
We have two purebred Norwegian Forest Cats, your entire video could apply verbatim to that breed. The same 5 years to maturity, neediness, obsession with food and unbelievable shedding, the only difference being in the shape of the head. Two Roombas and daily brushings which they thankfully enjoy are not enough, it’s everywhere ,you learn to live with it. Your cats are beautiful, such a lovely wild looking breed.
This is so accurate! My sweet Diego was either part or full Maine Coon. He was a big boy, had a really large fluffy tail, and was very talkative. You are so correct they can be dog-like...he would play fetch with a furry ball when he was young, liked water, meowed at me through the window when I would get home from work, and greeted me at the door. The fur is endless but so worth it...he was sooo loving. It’s been 3 years and I still miss him every day. ❤️

Yes, it means they love you in their own special way and when they turn their back to you, alit of people think their made or don't want to pay attention to you. But this is not the case, when they turn their back to you it means they trust you and they don't have to keep a constant watch over you. Also when a cat not just Maine Coons exposes it's belly which is the most vulnerable part of their body, they trust you beyond words!!! 💗 Just a little FYI for those that didn't know ☺️ Have a great day
I knew a cat that was maine coon mix, he was the "gentle giant" you described. I miss him so much. We lived in a shared house and anytime people downstairs (including his owner or not) were partying hard, he came to my room and either demand some cuddles or just fall asleep in my bed.
my future retirement pet, loving like a dog but independent like a cat. when I retire, I would have all of the time to gloom them and clean after them.
Mine is now gone but gave me 16 beautiful years. He was so majestic and the heart of our home. He raised and watched over my 2 dogs his whole life. Those dogs respected him as their elder and when he passed, one of my dogs was heartbroken for days. I will always miss him and love him.
My Maine Coon, Frankie, was the sweetest cat ever. He was very shy, but was loving with family. Especially me. He was huge just like a mini tiger or lion. I miss him so much.
I rehomed a short haired senior cat 2 years ago. I usually had dogs but thought this would be a better choice for me. I found out 15mos. later she had lymphoma and recently had to put her to sleep. 6 Weeks prior, an acquaintance of my daughter had a Maine Coon mix that her daughter was allergic to and needed a home. My daughter sent me a picture so I got her. I am so blessed as she is so affectionate and yes, needy but I love it. Your video gave me some pointers about her fur, but she does all the things you mentioned as their character and she is so fun to watch and always into something!!! Thanks for your video.
My new neighbor in the apartment across from me has a Maine Coon named Louie. He is such a sweetheart! I also get all my two black cats' food, litter toys, and anything else they need including a new "tree". They like the boxes also.
All I could think of were my sweet babies. I had two, a male and female, they have passed away. I will always love them, they filled my heart with love.
The greatest breed of cats ever. Ours doesn’t jump on the counters, listens to commands, reacts, has an amazing sense of time, misses us, cries when one of is leaving, and loves to spend time with us. Our Nemo is social and interactive and possibly the most affectionate cat ever.
I had a wonderful Maine Coon cat, Rita, for 21 years. I used a thin electric razor (like men use on their beards and sideburns) to remove the knots from the underbelly and for a sanitary trim for the bum. No pain or distress for her; no accidental skin cuts and the abundance of cat hair never showed a knotted clump had been removed. Also, I think the reason they track litter and even poo outside the box on occasion is that they are so big compared to the size of other cats that the don’t have room to maneuver in the litter tray.
We got a Maine Coon from the shelter a few years ago that had been returned twice and was a bit of a basket case. He was hiding at the shelter in a cardboard box but I got a chair and put my hand inside his cage. Eventually he came out and sniffed me and the ladies at the shelter freaked out because they thought he was so afraid that he would be unable to be adopted. Well 3 yrs later he is the most wonderful cat we have ever had. He is a gentleman and talks to us all the time. Love the lion face and oh that tail.... Wish I had known about Maines a long time ago. What a wonderful animal and he is a real companion. Black too. We are in love.
Our dog Woofie (who was a Samoyed) crossed her front paws a lot she was a very feminine dog. We has her through out our teenage years, between our close-knit street. First, our grandparents rescued her from a shelter, then close friends across the street adopted her, then we adopted her after Mrs. Parish passed away from a deadly stroke. We kept her for as long as we could until we moved back up north. I really wish I could've kept her myself. But my narcissistic parents stole all the money I made busting my butt working all summer long so I could support myself on my own. I really miss that dog and she will always be in my heart till the day I die! Sorry it's not about main coons, but I did have a friend who had a black one, who she named "Romeo" many years later. He was the very first main coon I've ever seen in my life and I fell so in love with him! So that's my story. Sorry the post is sorta long. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Recently, my neighbor was moving and he decided to give away his gray 3 year old Maine Coon to a crappy shelter. On the day he moved out, he dropped by to say bye, and just so happened to have the cat with him in the carrier. He told me that he was about to bring it down to the shelter. I took one look at that scared, lonely cat, and decided instantly there's no way this fluff ball is going to any shelter. Today, I'm happy to say, I'm now the owner of a beautiful gray 3 year old Maine Coon!
As a Maine Coon owner of a one year old boy, he is absolutely crazy. Constantly trilling all over the place and begging me to play fetch with him at 3am. But boy do I love him. Oh and he also does great in the car, I take him to our lake house every weekend in the summer which is about a 2 1/2 hour car ride.
Yup, everything checks out. Mine also love to bring us toys to play with them. After they successfully catch a toy, they usually bring them near their bowls where they eat. I'd say that their instinct is still strong as they connect hunting with food.
Happy Caturday! Ours crosses her legs. She pulls her food out with her paws to eat it - crumbs everywhere. She is total mischief but totally awesome. And yep, we get stinky butts, too. But, we also have long-haired chihuahuas and a Pomeranian so we're used to stinky butts and fur EVERYwhere! Love seeing your crew
It is 2022. I lost my one and only maine coon in the late 1990s after having her from birth to age 16. Still..there is rarely a WEEK that goes by that Music Lee's name is not mentioned. Have had many cats during my life, but never another like Music Lee. She was irreplaceable. My regret was that I never had a large oil painting of her done to hang above our fireplace.
Had a lovely Maine Coon who was exactly as you describe! Now we have one Norwegian Forest cat who is a relative of the MC...in fact ancestor! He is smaller at around 12 to 14 lbs, has a double coat, sheds the undercoat every year and has the same patient and loving personality. We adore him. He interacts well with our little 7 lb Panamanian feral who could do with learning his placid nature. She can be a maniac sometimes!
I didnt have a maine coon, but my old cat had everything you mentioned in your video except for liking cold weather or ice cubes. i miss my cat. thank you for putting this video up.
The year our son was born we got a 1/2 Maine Coon, the two of them were best buds till they reached 17 yrs old. Unhappily C.C. had feline aids that showed up in his old age. He was a great cat and a perfect baby sitter. #1 I’d like to offer a suggestion for trimming mats and it only takes 1 person if the cat is laid back. Take a steel comb with round pins, put it between the cat’s skin and the mat and only trim off the fur on top of the comb. You never risk cutting the skin. #2 I use a mat with a rim to have under the cat’s food bowls most of the time the crumbs stay on the mat and it’s easily cleaned. #3 I found these awesome grooming gloves that are practically self cleaning. You clap your hands and the fur falls off, I have 3 Birmans and their fur is silky and yes it ends up everywhere you have my sympathy but I love them and their fur. I enjoyed your video about the Coons and your life with them. May you enjoy their love for many yrs.
My Jazzy is so sweet and is no getting more snuggley with me. She used to want to stay outside but now she wants to be inside with my husband Bella our poodle, and me. She's usually in lays on a blanket on my left side and Bella is in my right side on her blanket. Jazzy purrs a lot and makes biscuit. Thats what we call it because she's pressing down with both paws into the blanket. I love her so much and she is absolutely a beautiful cat!!!
My Oliver looks like your Albus. He is 6 now and never leaves my side; he even loves riding in the car with me! Cheers to you and your lovely felines =^. .^=
Love my Coonies. They trill to me and follow me around. They love their cuddles and have so much personality. Even when I frequently return from a trip away, they are not petty (no behaviours like reg cats like peeing and pooping on your stuff cause they're pissed) They are just so happy I am home and can't wait for their lavish cuddles! As I write, my boy is sitting by my feet waiting patiently for some extra incidental love
I love the advice here, just said goodbye to my Maine coon of 15½ years, she had hyperthyroidism and renal failure along with general senile cat conditions - recognised many of her behaviour traits here and yet picked up many more hints off you, that I was not using on Tequila (Her name - she was a pedigree but flawed, so hence a companion animal only). I learnt so much about cats and MC through her and now of course when we get another cat or two, it will be more Maine Coons!
Another thing: All that fur can be swallowed by the cat, which causes many internal issues. You are doing the right thing by brushing (etc.) your cats.
I luv MC’s and your r gorgeous ❣️ I appreciate your informative videos, as my husband and I will b getting a red tabby silver boy in about 3 weeks!!!! We r so excited and cannot wait! Keep, posting these videos, they always make me smile😊❤️
On another note, I adopted Buttercup when she was 10, and I dint think she ever got brushed or bathed. She maintains her own fur fairly well. But I used to take her into the shower with me because I couldn't get her to submerge herself in a bathtub. She was very malnourished when I got her so for the first couple months I had her eating a wet food diet with high fat and protein- but that got stuck in her fur, made it all gross. Hence the need for the showers. I still have the scratch marks 😂😂
Better find someone who has so many kittens that they are overwhelmed and give them to you like I got mine or be prepared to pay big bucks from a " breeder". Breeder in one of the towns where I am asking 1800.00 to 2400.00. They want 500.00 extra for a polydactyl...I refused a poly before I made up my mind to get a second one...
Loyal? Oh yeah. We had Bubba for almost 20 years. One time he sank his claws into my wife's calf when she tried to go around him to get outside. He was NOT having it. A couple of seconds later a snake raised its head from the grass 10' outside the door. Mischievous? Well, one night he went cat-crazy, bolted down the hallway into the bedroom, across the bed, U-turned across my chest and back out of the room. I told him "That's it, you're out" (To the garage.) Next morning he's at the back door just staring at me, with a look on his face that said "Really"? He'd torn through the air vent, gotten out, had a great cat night out (his only one) and just wanted to make sure that I knew it. More than once we were quite literally told that he's a cat who thinks he's a dog.
I've been thinking about getting a Maine Coon for some time now. I love their size, how they communicate, and the fact that they love to cuddle. Thanks for the video, is was very informative. My only issue is just how much they cost. But, I guess that's just me being cheap. lol
I had a Maine coon as a kid, and he was the smartest cat that ever lived. I wasn’t allergic to him at all but I’ve been allergic to almost every other cat I’ve ever come across. I always wondered if maybe I’m just not allergic to Maine Coons.
We have 2 - 6 month old 1/2 Maine Coon siblings. When we got them at 6 weeks, I decided to try to use an animal large octagon playpen which has a net zippered top for their "bedroom" set up in the great-room. It has room for a litter box, bed & lounge area. Since night one, we never hear a peep out of them & we get to have a good nights sleep not worrying what they are up to. We do have a very regular schedule for them which really works great. Everyone is VERY HAPPY with the routine!
Im watching this with my 18.2 pounder laying on couch stretched out full belly exposed. Mine are terrified of people...when they hear a car drive in driveway...whoosh they are gone...they have only let one person into the house willingly and by that I mean greeting them at the door saying " okay you can come in you are welcome"...my whole phone is filled with pics of my cats...usually with my adult cat with his paw over or around the " kitten"...my adult with those round oval eyes...he always looks like he is half smiling...I love them and yes I had one and ended up with two..they love each other
Sounds so accurate. My MaineCoon Buttercup once woke me up from a dead sleep when she stood on my stomach and yelled in my face until I woke up. She had food and water, she calmed down when I gave her attention.
I should be sending you an SOS! My family has four Maine Coons; two males and two females. They’re eating us into bankruptcy! LOL 😂😂🤣🤣 We’ve had cats for many years but none have ever possessed appetites like these kitties! Now don’t get me wrong, they’re large, loving cats. The one male is about 30 pounds! But they absolutely love to eat and are very picky. Just like you mentioned in this vid, they come and tell you when they need fed then mob whoever’s feeding them. You’re never fast enough! It’s so cute!!! All the while they’re talking to you. Heaven forbid if you give them food they don’t like! 😾😾😾 In between feedings, at least two of them can be found sleeping on my wife’s lap. The big male likes to sleep with me. It’s a good thing we’re retired! They’re truly a full-time job and we love them so much!!!
Your cat Molly looks and acts like the reincarnation of my cat Jack, who passed away several years ago. The markings are nearly identical, down to the target pattern on the side and white "socks", the only exception being Molly's left rear "sock" not being solid white. It's like having a video of Jack. Thanks!
I adopted one. Or rather, a Maine Coon adopted me. Had her for over five years now. It's an absolute thrill ride that never ends. I never know what she's gonna do next, lol.
That explains a lot! LOL! Ours are 1/4 Maine Coon and 3/4 Chinchilla Persian. One looks more like a Maine, the other more Persian (not the Peke type face), but both have the Maine needy feedy nattery nutty traits. They will cuddle for ages but if they get too hot they have to find a cooler spot. They converted my husband - who now wonders why we didn't get cats before. As for my mother-in-law, well . . . I caught her playing with them and stroking them to the sound of huge purrs. Another one converted - and this person didn't like any animals! They did, however, steal my son's ear plugs when he came to visit! So visitors - please make sure you shut the door behind you (although determined furballs will nip in very sneakily). My husband had to hide his ear plugs in the bedside drawer! Yes, constant meows when I go to the bathroom or shut them out of forbidden rooms! They also tell me when they've used the litter tray! Definitely the most fun, most friendly cats I've ever had.

Stunning cats with stunningly kind hearted people. xx eternely grateful for you making this youtube channel. xx
You’re so sweet! Thank you so much for watching our videos! ❤️
@@lifewithmainecooncats You are so welcome!!! xxxx
Hi Annie, Molly, Albus and Luna, you are all so beautiful and I love watching videos of you all. Albus that tail has a life of it’s own!😻💜
I would say my Jesse looks most like Luna. He was huge and had a very deep meow. He lived to be 17 and was very special. ❤
20 lbs? My Jesse was 28 lbs at his peak! He was a beast.
My Simba can play fetch longer than my pitching arm can tolerate. I bought a slingshot to save my arm and keep Simba entertained and fit.
I 💕 THOSE MOTORLICOUS KITTYLICOUS MOTOR 😺 I 💕 THE TUFTS OF FUR THAT COMES UP BETWEEN THE TOES AND THE TOE BEANS ARE SOOOOOO DARN 🥰
Your cats are extravagant! Thank you for sharing!!
I think you did a great job describing these cats. My parents have one and everything you described is spot on. I love these cats.
This is 17 minutes of gorgeousness. Thank you.
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching!
So sorry for your loss 😿
What a cool name for a beautiful and lovely kitty Music Lee. I hope one day you will be reunited with her ❤
Had a lovely Maine Coon who was exactly as you describe!
I ENJOYED THE VOCALS AND THEY ARE GREATLY COMMUNICATORS AND SMART
Aaaaw I'm glad to hear Molly has been a big influence on Luna's nature. She's such a special little girl...they all are special in their own way. Xxx
This made my night- thank you so much ! My Maine Coon also crosses his lovely arms- so sweet, so fancy ha ha so chillaxed
I didnt have a maine coon, but my old cat had everything you mentioned in your video except for liking cold weather or ice cubes. i miss my cat. thank you for putting this video up.
I think having to shelter inside with humans during the long Scandanavian/North American winters helped develop that close friendly bond
I have 2 of these amazing cats, I wish more people would appreciate their beauty and personality
I love that you named all your Maine Coons after Harry Potter characters😍😻
Our boy also love to cross his paws. He look so gentlemen-like and regal when he does that 🥰
My Oliver looks like your Albus. He is 6 now and never leaves my side; he even loves riding in the car with me! Cheers to you and your lovely felines =^. .^=
I had 3 siblings. 2 female, one male. Kittens from my yard. Never a bad mood. Very loving.
Yes, MAJESTIC is the word to describe them.
Cat very wonderful very beautiful nice colour and very happy 🐈😺😸❤️💖
The smartest and most loving breed of cat I have ever owned.
Yess, my kitten sticks her paws in the water whenever she's trying to drink it😂
They r so like a puppy!!!
So sweet babies.
I’m watching this on my tv and my cat won’t look away
thank you for the good advices! your cats are beautyfull. greatings from europe germany
I had an American shorthair red tabby cat that was a big sweet and friendly. He did loved his belly rubs. He had a very special bond.
That ice cube thing is adorable
I had a maine coon loved him. I've been looking at rescues. Yours are beautiful
Thank you!
So sorry for your loss ❤️
wonderful video! thank you! I am a new 9 months silver red male owner since last weekend. Learning things and already thinking to adopt his brothers
Our Annie is one awesome cat! Thanks.
Another thing: All that fur can be swallowed by the cat, which causes many internal issues. You are doing the right thing by brushing (etc.) your cats.
hello annie, molly, albus, and luna, happy caturday to you all! xoxo animal lover
I luv MC’s and your r gorgeous ❣️ I appreciate your informative videos, as my husband and I will b getting a red tabby silver boy in about 3 weeks!!!! We r so excited and cannot wait! Keep, posting these videos, they always make me smile😊❤️
Thank you so much and congratulations on your new kitten! Wishing you a long and happy life together ❤️
I’ve had Pebbles now 4 years and she’s a bit of a character.
They're so beautiful and majestic. I want one
I love Maine Coons so much , so Wonderful Animals , very thanks from Germany, best Wishes 🐈🥰
Loyal?
Thank you , great video! Love the kitties!
Im watching this with my 18.2 pounder laying on couch stretched out full belly exposed. Mine are terrified of people...when they hear a car drive in driveway...whoosh they are gone...they have only let one person into the house willingly and by that I mean greeting them at the door saying " okay you can come in you are welcome"...my whole phone is filled with pics of my cats...usually with my adult cat with his paw over or around the " kitten"...my adult with those round oval eyes...he always looks like he is half smiling...I love them and yes I had one and ended up with two..they love each other
Love the one with the gold coloring mixed in her hair.
💕💕💕beautiful kitties😍😍. Love your explanations on them. Thanks for sharing, stay safe, Happy thanksgiving🦃
These cats r incredible.i had 1 now 2 another rescue. Just found her yesterday.someone dumped her like my first. One so loving
Thank you for rescuing them ❤️
You’re soo very Lucky! I would especially Love ❤️ to Rescue one‼️
Whyyy are they so beautiful!! 😖😖😖 adorable!
Also, my short-haired cat layer with her front paws crossed as if posing for a picture.
Sounds so accurate. My MaineCoon Buttercup once woke me up from a dead sleep when she stood on my stomach and yelled in my face until I woke up. She had food and water, she calmed down when I gave her attention.
Beautiful beautiful babes . ❤️😻❤️❤️ thank you for sharing them with us 👋
I should be sending you an SOS!
"There is cat fur EVERYWHERE!"
please keep making more videos, they are very enjoyable, i love watching them!
Thank you so much! Will do 😽
Your cat Molly looks and acts like the reincarnation of my cat Jack, who passed away several years ago. The markings are nearly identical, down to the target pattern on the side and white "socks", the only exception being Molly's left rear "sock" not being solid white. It's like having a video of Jack. Thanks!
Oh and Jack's only piece of clothing was that red sweater Molly is wearing!
This is priceless, thank you x
Rule No. 1: It's ALL about the kitty!
Rule No. 2: When in doubt, refer to Rule No. 1😊❤️
LoL Put some catnip in those frozen ice cubes, then video tape it!!!....
I adopted one. Or rather, a Maine Coon adopted me. Had her for over five years now. It's an absolute thrill ride that never ends. I never know what she's gonna do next, lol.
Very accurate video. Beautiful cats you have!
Thank you so much!
Mountain Lions will cross their paws when they relax. I've seen a few do when they are relaxing on a rock
Mark Ruffalo sure enjoys talking about cats
