I have my second Maine Coon and I'm jealous. Zeus is so pretty and sweet. When my first one died, it was 20+ years before I could bring myself to get another. They make such great buddies.
Cats really don't like being in unfamiliar environments. Part of all that was the cat not understanding his new environment, The lady said Zeus jumped off the table. Once Zeus got a look around at everything ground level, that probably relaxed him. If it were me, I would leave the cat alone in the room with it's owner for 15 minutes, and let it explore around before trying to groom it. It would knock down at least 15% of it's grooming anxiety, possibly more.. That's what all the pacing back and forth was all about, social anxiety from being in a new room ..
@@BeyondOurSolarSystemI disagree that the pacing was necissarily social anxiety. I have a half-ragdoll and she will seriously start pacing and walking around while being pet. Purring all the time. For some reason she just naturally wants to keep moving while being pet and perfectly happy.
I had a Mainecoon growing up! Their mother abandoned them at 4 weeks old, and he fit on my hand. When I took over his care, at age 14, he needed feeding every 3-4 hours, 24/7. Luckily, he was a sweet summer child, so I was able to care for him, and then my grandmother helped for a short time. Sylvester, the longhaired tuxedo Mainecoon was my first 💜 pet. I will hold him in my heart forever. 🐾
What a gorgeous boy! We had a copper-coloured Maine Coon called Salvadore. He was 37" nose to tail, and weighed 24 lbs, all solid muscle. Like Zeus, he had a wonderful sweet temperament. So loving and affectionate. I brushed him daily for 30-45 minutes to keep all that long, long hair clean and unmatted. We lived in an orchard and took two long daily walks. He always came back loaded with grass, sticks, leaves and bit 'n bobs that had to be brushed out. I miss him more than words can say. Seeing beautiful Zeus reminds me how privileged we are to have these wonderful cats in our lives.
Coons are amazing. My sample size of 1, my aunt's cat named Tiger, convinced me as a kid that they're calmest and friendliest breed bar none. I miss that old boy, his purr would make the whole couch vibrate.
What a sweet boy! He was under the impression that he was just there for the pets and treats, along with a bit of a cuddle. All this removal of mats was uncalled for in his opinion, but if you must...
I saw photos of a cat with this coloration (just a regular mid-length coat, not a Maine Coon) while it was being bathed, and after, and that coat color is something else! Basically, all the hair under the topmost layer was white, so when it was wet, it kind of looked like it had black stripes everywhere, and once it was dry, it looked like it had a regular charcoal sort of coloration. One of the coolest and weirdest things I've seen!
This coloration is called Black Smoke, white roots underneath a black outer coat. The white shows differently in different breeds depending on how their coats are configured. Actually, a cat of any color can be a smoke because it's defined by having the white roots under any other color. If you look at Felis Gallery the photographer that has that page has a whole houseful of Maine Coons, including quite the collection of black smokes. He has one that I think might be a red smoke and another that might just be a Blue-Cream tortoiseshell smoke!
It amazed me watching how fast you earned the cats trust with patience if anyone noticed during the brushing he showed his stomach playfully meaning he got comfy as well as the slow blinks a little before! Amazing
Wanna be careful of exposed bellies with cats. It's often less "hello yes I want to be friends" in stressful situations, and more "I will put all four sets of claws in a primed position." It can be a sign of relaxation, when they are at rest completely, but in stressful situations where they know they aren't in control it's a defensive posture.
@@AvaNightingale Everything about the process, from the environment to the procedures to the attitude of the groomer, is designed to control the subject, because they will be cleaned, because they are pets and that's what the owner wants, and nobody has time to make sure the animals consent or are able to understand, nor does anyone want to because they have bills to pay. It's all fine and dandy on the surface if the animal happens to not care, but any sign of resistance and first you will be hooded, then scolded and shamed or bribed with food and sweet words, then muzzled, then a bubble over your head, then put in a harness and suspended in the air. Not to mention being drugged beforehand. Because they will be groomed whether they want it or not.
@@misteral9045 good pet owners understand that consent is best, but we don't wait for babies to be comfy before we change their diapers because they will very quickly be in extreme discomfort and I'll if we do not. Same with illness in kids. Not grooming leads to illness and often is the result of illness on top of it and will lead to the fast decline and death of many animals especially those bred to require grooming. I agree that nobody should have bred animals to need that, and that it's not ideal, but we don't live in a world where we can all understand animals well enough to communicate with them about how serious and necessary to their quality and quantity of life this is. As a child of extremely controlling abusive parents I get why you'd be so stuck in this.l thinking. We also live in a culture that is very anti-consent. AND good people do have to choose between bad and worse things in the world. It's bad to go without consent but it's worse to let someone get hurt because you won't swallow the tough stuff and do what's right for them even if it's not what either of you would prefer. Evil people make things bad no matter the context, it's a choice they continually make, much like good people. The difference is how we go about it and what is preserved.
My neighbor didn’t know how to handle her long haired cat. I have five cats and over 30 years cat experience. I went over with my de-matting comb and got all his mats brushed out in about ten minutes. He wasn’t happy, but it didn’t take long. Experience helps, and treats for bribing of course.
My parents are so fortunate that all of their longhaired cats have been really, really chill about grooming - in fact, Mom says the current one happens to love water so much she'll cooperate with getting washed up in the laundry sink just so she can watch the water go down the drain afterwards. 😂 (Why is it always the longhaired cats who like to get messy?)
I've heard they tend not to meow much. My part Maine Coon chirps and trills a lot, but only really meows in the dead of the night. You know, the "Where'd everybody go?" meows, LOL.
@@kateshiningdeer3334 I have three MCs, Gracie is fairly quiet unless she mimics sounds like Mum or allo, to get my attention. Dusty says very little besides trills. Ebony just is the noisiest thing I have ever seen. Like wookie and tribble making noise. Her little trills, and yowly calls are weird and yet endearing. I guess it really depends on the cat.
Good grief, those massive paws! Gives some hint of how big he'll be once truly adult. Completely gorgeous; the black smoke is an amazing color. He was pretty quick to catch on that brushing gets those itchy spots. Such a good boy for a teenager!
A friend of mine has one of these cats, and its paws are just as big as her hands. The gentlest big boy. He will lay in your lap as soon as you sit down.
What a beautiful kitty. ❤❤❤ His curiosity with the tools and your letting him inspect them is wonderful. You can see him relaxing into the “oh, this feels good” space.
When I'm working on brushing out my kitties' pantaloons, i put my hand under their bellies and hold them up instead of grabbing their tails. It works better to immobilize them and keep them from sitting down. I also reward their patience by occasionally letting them direct the brushing to their heads where they absolutely love it. It looks like this gorgeous boy would happily do that, too. He's such a sweetie!
I thought I was the only one who called them pantaloons. Or, as I call my medium-haired baby, Fluffypants. She doesn’t need brushing but she loves the feel of a human hairbrush on her cheeks and back, so hopefully when she gets older she’ll be ok with grooming if she needs it.
I’ve also got a Little Miss Fluffypants (real name Nikita)! She’s a long-haired black tabby Maine Coon, and from the top she’s largely black and dark brown… but then she sticks her tail up in the air and/or starts off at a run, and all you see is white/light grey/cream massive fluffy bloomers 😹 So voluminous and densely fluffy, but really fine hair… and makes me laugh every time when she does her sassy little speed-trot down the hall with pantaloons fully on display 😺
If you have ever watched a mother cat grooming her kitten, it continually moves around, but she still has her way with it, pulling it back when it tries to get away lol. I have done that with many kittens, and they all turned out to be good cats!
Oh my oh my oh my! That face, those eyes, those ear tufts, those fluffy feet, that fluffy tail! I cant get over how incredibly GORGEOUS he is. Be still my heart!
I had a black smoke Himalayan years ago. His 2 sisters were perfectly coloured Himmies, but he took after an ancestor. What a beauty he was! Dense black outer coat with pure white undercoat. Such a gorgeous combination! Zeus is so well behaved and such a lovely tail!
Honestly the equigroomer is the best purchase I've ever made for my cat, she has gorgeous black fur but doesn't care for being brushes, but she goes WILD for it and it's helped to keep her shedding under control. It's at a point where she jumps up every morning and EXPECTS and demands some equigrooming and gets fussy if she doesn't get it. Top tier product, I recommend it to anyone with cats
Lucky you, it doesn't exist in my country and shipping fees are 4 times the cost of thw brush 😂😂 I took a horse brush, like a local equigroomer: my cat is not a fan but my chiweenie dog is now clean and ... so are my blankets😂😂😂😂
I purchased an Equigroomer last year after seeing it on this channel. My house panther Winston has a kitten soft black coat and doesn't like being brushed, but he loves the Equigroomer. I can simply hold it up and Winston will rub up against it.
I got my first cat in January, and he's a DLH. I was worried at first because he hated being brushed, but once he realized that it's basically just being pet with 100 tiny fingers, he decided it's actually the best thing ever and will walk up to me for attention when he sees me grab the brush. It was so fun seeing that happen with Zeus within the space of a single appointment!
My cat was the same way. The rescue told me to try brushing him while he was eating, but he refused to let me do that. It took a while for him to trust me and most importantly, realize that brushing = treats! 🍗🐈⬛
The past tense of 'pet' is 'petted' not 'pet'! "He petted the dog yesterday." She will pet, he will pet, they will pet. He has petted, she has petted they have petted. I am petting, he is petting, she is petting, they are petting...
@sylvisterling8782 Gurl, get a grip. This is light-hearted content to help us all through some stressful times. I would rather read a sweet post with verb conjugation errors, than someone dicking around correcting others' grammar.
@@sylvisterling8782it is likely you may have intended your comment to be helpful and not in a snarky way. However, generally speaking, correcting people’s grammar in an informal context like social media with folks that don’t know you and vice versa more often than not comes off in a negative way. It is seen as nitpicky and pedantic, due to possibly perceiving you as one of those “grammar nazis” who are inconsiderate and overlook other people’s meaning in favor of criticizing their written form in order to implicitly or explicitly undermine their intelligence (and the claim that poor spelling = poor schooling/intellect is false, but I have seen people legitimately argue that due to someone’s grammar mistake, that means their entire argument is invalid (if conversing in a debate), even if the argument has nothing to do with English writing). If you must, there are two ways to go about this that may show people your positive intention (if that is true): 1) have your comment also address what they are saying in their post in a positive way (“I agree…” or “I think what you said is interesting because…”) either before or after the grammatical point, and 2) perhaps more importantly, adjust tone. “In case you may find it helpful, [insert grammar correction]” or “Just a minor note, [insert grammar correction],” etc. Ideally, utilize both points 1 and 2 the next time you feel obliged to correct someone’s grammar in a similar informal context. Otherwise, I would put slightly more emphasis on adjusting tone

You aren’t allergic to the cat but a protein in their saliva. There is a medication that you can get fro the vet that stops the production of that protein. There is, or was, a cat food on the market that has that medication in it as well.
Thankyou for your comments. Glad I stumbled upon them. I have four rescues and I also have the saliva allergy. I take antihistamine every day and some nights I need the extra nose spray. I will lookout for that cat food. Thanks so much 😊
I learned to groom my Siberian Forest cat by watching your channel. She gets brushed every day with a variety of brushes, claws trimmed once a week, and a sanitary trim once a month. I do sometimes have to shave out mats because she won’t let me brush certain areas regularly. Whenever I use the trimmers it takes two people and a wet treat to keep her from going slasher flick on us. Your skills continue to impress. I am so thankful for these cat grooming videos because I would have been lost without them.
I've got an MC girl and she is the gentlest cat I've ever had. She learned how to control he claws really well as a kitten and the only times I come out of even roughhousing with her (Which she loves!) is when she/I catch her dew claw. She's also the most people oriented cat I've had, and immediately investigated people who come in. A truly fantastic breed. I just hope breeders don't go for size over temperament and ruin it.
THAT MASSIVE HANDSOME BEAST IS ONLY A YEAR OLD?! Ah I’m in love. Such a gorgeous breed in general but Zeus is stunning and I love the expressions he had as you were grooming; especially his behavior when you lifted his front legs. 😂❤
And what is so amazing is that this positive experience he had with the food, the petting and so forth will go a long way in socialising him to grooming so he will consistently do better. Amazing work, Vanessa.
I have a DLH with the same issues. He mats at the drop of a hat, any hat, and must be groomed daily. His fur is amazing. (I have 2 other DLH, and almost never need grooming,)
I am a huge cat lover! Have 9! My husband wants a Maine cook very bad. Every time I lose an elderly cat we just take in another. Our cats lived to be 23, 18 and the last 14. I can't imagine the maintenance of this cat! Glad I watched this!
Its all about personality and regimentation. If they are used to it, they won't protest too much. They are pretty affectionate so it helps if you introduce the brush as being part of the petting and cuddling process while young, so they will associate it with comfort and safety.
I had 2 Maine Coon boys, and having had a Norwegian Forest Cat when I was younger, long fur was nothing new. A couple times a week with a brush, roomy litter boxes and STURDY scratching posts were the only things outside of what other kitties need. I had my boys for 17 wonderful years before renal disease took them from me. I miss them every day.
Maintenance actually isn't that bad. It's just good to use a brush here and there instead of petting them by hand only. Small mattings are hard to avoid though. Especially in the "arm pits" where the fur rubs together all day long. Just be aware that they're not the most intelligent breed. They end up in situations you wouldn't have thought to be possible. That's also why they make a better house cat. They trust everyone and everything. No care in the world.
He is extremely gorgeous. He kept giving his head to be petted and brushed. He is the type of cat that you need to slow down for him to be relaxed then you would have more access ❤️❤️
What a beautiful cat. He enjoyed his groom, trying to headbutt you. I am not a groomer but I had cats over the years. I wouldn't be able to stop grooming this cat, especially the tail. So beautiful🐾
I forgot to say thank you for making this a long video, I can see how easy it would have been to edit a shorter video from this groom. Us cat lovers thank you ❤
Beautiful and sweet cat. I had a cat that was mostly Maine Coon but she was smaller than this guy, only about 14 pounds and she loved to be brushed. I found her hanging on my window screen during a rainstorm and she decided to keep me.
I watched your older Maine coin with the voice over and I really enjoy your progress now where you are unedited and just being you. That vulnerability just makes me want to watch all your videos, you don’t care what mistakes you make because you know we also make them too.
He is agitated but that doesn’t mean he is aggressive, he wasn’t which is why he didn’t bite or swat. He didn’t like it and was nervous but he didn’t feel threatened by her.
He was annoyed. She was patient and took her time getting through the groom without pushing his boundaries too fast. That's why he warmed up to her towards the end. He was also probably feeling better without the matting. He layed on his side, exposing his belly. A sure sign that you have earned a cats trust and they are comfortable with you.
Maine Coons actually wag their tail and are different from other cat breeds in that their tails will move like that when they’re happy too. I have a 1 year old grey & white Maine Coon that I adopted from the Humane Society at 11 weeks old not knowing anything about the breed at the time. Since then, I’ve researched a ton and I’m so glad I was fortunate to get him. Their personalities and temperaments are magnificent!! 🩶
Once the hoodie came off all I could think was: EAR TUFTIES.... He's a beautiful sweet boy. If he's only a year old he still has filling out to do and he's going to be even bigger. 😻💜😻💜😻 Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for leaving those deluxe paw tufts as is ! I was so relieved ,it would have been painful to see ,you are right they are one of the traits we find so endearing.
What a well behaved cat! My long haired cat hated to be brushed. Near the end of her life I had to shave her beautiful coat because she wasn't grooming herself and the matting was crazy. The owner is so lucky that her cat likes to be pet and brushed. Such a big beautiful boy!

He's not even fully grown but already so huge. What a gorgeous cat.
I hope we get to see him again.
Most (maybe all?) record holders of largest domestic cat have been Maine Coon boys.
@@buyerbware25 Yeah. A lean Maine Coon can weigh 25 lbs. And there are plenty of fat ones that get to 40 lbs.
What a patient, handsome young boy! You treated him so well. Wonderful job!
He’s stunning and his temperament was spectacular. Toward the end of the groom he looked like he was enjoying it.
That's what all the pacing back and forth was all about, social anxiety from being in a new room
..
thats how all maine coon cats are, gentle giants. they're like the great danes of cats haha
@@BeyondOurSolarSystem 15%🤣🤣 more like 16%
if i was zeus i think that i'd also personally be a lot more relaxed once it seemed like the clippers weren't coming back
@@BeyondOurSolarSystemI disagree that the pacing was necissarily social anxiety. I have a half-ragdoll and she will seriously start pacing and walking around while being pet. Purring all the time. For some reason she just naturally wants to keep moving while being pet and perfectly happy.
Aww the way he nudged his head into the equigroomer🥰 Zeus seemed unsure and anxious, but seems like a sweet boy!
I love how the entire time he’s just trying to get you to pet him XD
It was almost like a dance.

That is a lovely story. Thanks for sharing!
Do main coins have a high rate of abandonment? I found mine In the gutter. How he follows me like a dog
@@jonahblocklol no purebreds do not. Y’all have domestic longhair cats.
Was this from a breeder of pedigree cats or are you confusing Maine coon with domestic longhair?
❤️❤️❤️to you. It’s always about the love!❤️❤️❤️
His eyes and his full face recognition are so encouraging and peaceful with intent. I bet he's a fine companion, a kind one.
😂😂😂
I love his coloring and the tufts on his ears!
The longer I watch these videos the more disgust I have for groomers and grooming. Such a lack of love.
@@misteral9045wtf are you even talking about?
His paws are amazing looking. What a quiet cat, haven't heard him meow once yet.
They look as big as a panther's!
How did he fit in that little crate? o.o
Cats are liquids
@chat-arina this is a fact verified by the scientific community
CAts have a philology. I fit, i sit
Liquid cat...standard.
Omg right
What a beautiful kitty.
Pantaloons! I say that also!! Im glad its a thing
me too! Or trousers
So cute! I call mine "Hammer pants"😂
If you have ever watched a mother cat grooming her kitten, it continually moves around, but she still has her way with it, pulling it back when it tries to get away lol. I have done that with many kittens, and they all turned out to be good cats!
one: stunning cat
two: wow once the brushing started you reversed the kitty timer and made him think he was just having a lovely time, so awesome!
He is sooooo beautiful and relaxed. I love his paws - soooo fluffy
Watching Zeus come out of his carrier was like watching a magician's trick. Good kitty, Zeus.

Hadn't heard of it. Seems like a great tool.
Yes. It seems like Zeus' owner needs to get an equigroomer and just use it on him every day. He seemed to really like it.
The happy hoodie makes him look so funny. It changes the perceived proportions so much.
His face says it all 😂😂😂😂 “I am not amused” but what a beautiful, beautiful cat! Love the colour of his fluffy wuffy furry coat and that tail just gorgeous! 🐈⬛🐈⬛
I’m allergic to cats and that living breathing Smokey thing is what I want in the whole wide world
Take allergy shots, they can desensitize your allergic reactions
You aren’t allergic to the cat but a protein in their saliva. There is a medication that you can get fro the vet that stops the production of that protein. There is, or was, a cat food on the market that has that medication in it as well.
It is made by Purina - available in pet stores- ProPlan LiveClear and Chewy Carrie’s it! Rescue!
Thankyou for your comments. Glad I stumbled upon them. I have four rescues and I also have the saliva allergy. I take antihistamine every day and some nights I need the extra nose spray. I will lookout for that cat food. Thanks so much 😊
Same. My neighborhood super professional cat lady said I could probably get over my own cats dander if I got one, so I won’t give up hope lol
He chilled right out, what a lovely big boy! 🥰
Such a MAGNIFICENT cat! It was a pleasure to watch you work with him and get some well-deserved loving back from him.
Maine Coons continue to grow for 3-5 years, so he is still growing. I have 3 and they are just the best cats.
Not only that, Maine Coons actually grow physically until they're 5 years old.
He will still be growing!
They grow through their fifth year!
Maine coons are gorgeous cats but they get HUGE. Zeus will likely be 30lbs when fully grown
And what is so amazing is that this positive experience he had with the food, the petting and so forth will go a long way in socialising him to grooming so he will consistently do better. Amazing work, Vanessa.
I had a large smoky black maine coone. Their fur is so fine and long you really have to keep up with grooming to prevent mats
I have a DLH with the same issues. He mats at the drop of a hat, any hat, and must be groomed daily. His fur is amazing. (I have 2 other DLH, and almost never need grooming,)
What a gorgeous black smoke boy! And he still has a couple more years of growing to do
I have a friend with a beautiful smoke maine coon named jacks bear
He is a very special and stunning cat. He was friendly involved in the final grooming step and wanted to be petted.
23 is close to a record.
Zeus was staring down that camera like it owed him money. Lol.
I thought at first he was agitated from his swishy tail, but he never once tried to bite you! Such a good kitty!
Sometimes cats actually wag their tail. My cat does it. I reacted the same way until I realized he was just happy.
They say that Maine Coon cats, unlike other breeds, swish their tails due to contentment or relaxation, not anger. It's just a quirk of the breed.
Thanks!
Once the hoodie came off all I could think was: EAR TUFTIES.... He's a beautiful sweet boy. If he's only a year old he still has filling out to do and he's going to be even bigger. 😻💜😻💜😻 Thanks for sharing!!

He's like my girl cat. LOVES the brush, but never stays still while I brush her and have to follow her around. Scritching her face and head sometimes works since that's what she mainly wants brushed or even give her a brush to rub her own face on while I brush her body with another.
Mine does the same thing
Mine too, I have to hold him like a child to keep him still 😅
I really admire you intuitive approach and sensitivity to the animal's needs - on each and every occasion
I've had cats for over 40 years. Early in my career as a cat mom, my vet said cats do not need baths. I have found that to be true, unless they got into something or soiled themselves. But they do need lots of brushing. I had a part Maine Coon (for 20 years) and he got mats also, but I brushed him everyday, and that helped keep the mats down.
Zeus looks like he stepped right out of Narnia. Maybe he's part faery. My goodness he's breathtakingly beautiful. Lucky owner to be Blessed with such a quiet peaceful cat 😻
