- The group Forbes performing "Beatles", the Swedish entry at the 1977 Eurovision Song Contest.
The Swedes attempted to move the national juries with this kinda goofy disco tribute to Liverpool's finest (one can only hope they didn't get to hear it!), but in the end they got their worst ever result under the current voting system (last place, with only 2 points from Germany saving them from nul-points disgrace). It's not such a bad song as all of this suggests really, although it loses many points from the ridiculous chorus ("och George, och Paul, och John"...)
de här va fan de sämsta jag sett och hört någonsin.
I actually saw the Forbes in summer 2007 performing "Beatles" on stage in Stockholm. (at "Schlagerkvällen" i Tantolunden)
Wow!
Indeed, that's my question too! Poor Ringo, shortchanged and forgotten even here...
Fantástica canción,aún la recuerdo...
LMAO
WE ACTUALLY SENT THIS?
... Well... We still have ABBA to comfort ourselfs with xD
The restaurant music between the acts was because in the last moment the postcardmovies couldn't be used. They were shot at a party for the participants and delegations. And a very young Anita Skorgan behaved a bit drunk. So the Norwegian head of delegation protested. With success.
Jag var 11 år då. Låtarna från förr har fastnat! Det var klass på Eurovision på den tiden. I dag är det endast skräp🙃
Nightmare!
Top 10 in my all time favourite Eurovision songs.
Legends from Sweden:)
Ah, how Eurovision times have changed: the well-dressed audience sitting around patiently, being entertained by restaurant music whilst waiting for the next song to begin! As for this song, it's a little depressing that Sweden must have gone through weeks of Melodifestivalen to choose this!
En mi opinión mereció mejor puesto a mi me gusto
You're right in pointing this out - indeed, if one took away the lyrics, no one could ever suspect this song and performance to have anything whatsoever to do with the Beatles, let alone being a tribute to them.
Ehhhh, what about him? The chorus clearly says, "Vi skal minnas Ringo Starr, och George och Paul och John." What's the problem?
Can't understand how this masterpiece could end with getting the last place. Norway deserved that place much more.
Btw, I heard from somewhere that the orchestra thought this song was the most fun to play. Close enough.
Guilty pleasure.
Whoops - seems someone hasn't done his homework properly! (blush) Well, to my defense, by knowledge of Swedish is only slightly better to my knowledge of Icelandic (i.e. next to none), so I hope I can be excused for missing the mention of his name in the lyrics (besides, I have to confess that the "och George etc" part always gets me silly-singing against my will, so it totally grabs my attention - LOL!)
With that pronounciation of those names, I can understand that you didn't hear Ringo Starr in this song. I hadn't recognized it either, until I read Seth's comment and then listened carefully!
Why the people doesnt like? It's a good song :/
The funny thing is, if one ignores the lyrics, it's hard to see how this has anything to do with the Beatles. In any case, in the strong field of '77 this seemed rather throwaway and amateur. The outfits and routine didn't exactly help either. The hyper-orchestration and trumpets somehow make it even plainer. Must have been embarrassing for Sweden after winning with ABBA, then hosting... and then finishing last.
You did? So they performed this song thirty years afterwards? I gotta admire that.
What is so funny about this song is the contrast between the horrible tune (it seems to aim downwards all the time) and the brass' futile attempts to lift the sinking ship. They take a really depressive tune and try to make a dance song of it. Of course it doesn't work.
I think this is very under rated especially compared to the pathetic 2019 songs.
A mi la canción me gusta, no esta tan mal
No tan mala como su posición da a entender. Mereció mejor suerte.
As you might expect, we hardly talk about this entry even here in Sweden. I hadn't even heard it before I found it on UA-cam. It's a very mediocre song, neither bad or good, more so than most of our other entries. And I also suspect, that it coming last place made us want to forget about it. Poor guys... I don't even know who they are, even though I'm familiar with all other artists competing for us in the ESC even in that era, and that's saying something about how disgraced they became.
are they using words?
Of course they do. I guess you just don't understand Swedish.
I'm Swedish and speaks Swedish and I can say that this song is really bad. Do not think we could vote for such a poor track
Yeah, not really that bad a song but certainly no masterpiece either. Also, apart from the lyrics, it sounds as far from a Beatles tribute as it could. And the whole stage act has 'out-of-place' written all over it. Although at least several audience member seemed to really like this tribute.
what disappointment, last place! :(
