Fight for NY & Marc Echos Getting Up were some of the greatest games of that time. I still play them to this day. I also did own pimp my ride but that was a bit of a let down.
For those who don't know, Def Jam was created by an accident. It was originally supposed to be a WCW game with WCW wrestlers but WCW went out of business in 2001.
Here's the Thing: If you really look at Def Jam: Vendetta and FFNY, it really WAS a weird idea, especially looking at it during the Era when it came out. Rappers, Actors and Celebrities in a fighting game against each other (in the 2000s) was a crazy concept. The fact that it's legacy was able to transcend different periods of gaming and do something extremely way ahead of its time just adds to its timelessness. It's fanbase and unsilencing outcry for a follow-up, sequel, remake or just for it to be for sale again proves that.
i wouldnt call it weird at all, its literally the east coast vs west coast beef turned into a fighting game, makes a lot of sense to me, gang warfare but with less guns and both sides win coz it basically acted as advertisement for the rappers and their music, it certainly influenced me to listen to more rap and hip-hop. but yeah rappers fighting or killing each other was basically a daily occurrence in the news back then, theyre probably the most likely candidate for a fighting game i can think of
Some pretty good licensed games are Toy story 3 , ratatouille and the bee movie game. Shrek the third was also good. Peter Jackson's King Kong is a great game but becomes difficult later in the game. Barnyard was pretty good.
Marc Ecko's Getting Up is a genuinely great game. I replayed it on Steam recently and it's still very playable. Controls are clunky and there are obvious limitations that get a little frustrating but the story is fantastic, the general gameplay loop is fun, and the overall design and environments are dripping with character.
growing up watching american idol pretty much religiously at the time the game had come out, my family were obsessed with that game for a short amount of time.
DJ Fight For NY was the epitome of fighting games mixed with the hip hop culture. Still wish they would create a WWE like storyline as the next sequel.
The game still sells for $150-$250 all the time so a remake would be great for killions of players but the og game value will plummet too. This would be some amazing news though as it would literally be a cash cow for them knowing MILLIONS will buy it no questions asked if its a proper remaster.
@@vincentsgaming Chicago is pretty good for collecting. The thrift store was a neighborhood one. I also found persona 3 for psp at the same location for $12.95.
@@C.M.Goingplaces unironically this, def jam was east coast vs west coast, a beef thats been basically dead and buried for years now, but beyond that, the worlds too politically correct now and most rappers too soft, i mean shit, just look at crow aka snoop, guys a joke now just shills crypto and whatever shit he can to make money, he aint no gangster anymore hes a business man, def jam was a product of its time and itll never be replicated, best we can hope for is a remaster but given how many rappers likeness is used in the game, getting all their permissions and paid off would be an issue, not to mention licensing their music again (100% wouldnt be the og soundtrack)
True. Just recently started playing it because i didn't get a chance when it first released. The gameplay is fun especially the different tagging mechanics and the voice acting is great.
They made a PLAYBOY GAME!?!?! 2:01 Sounds like a solid premise for a game given how popular the Sopranos are. 7:13 No, I still think that title goes to Superman 64. 9:16 Looks like Twisted Metal. 10:18 REALLY!?!?! I like pinball as much as the next guy but...
Actually the Def Jam games were pretty good and they are not bad at all in my opinion. And this dev actually made some WWE games in the past and then they went on to try out something new, street wrestling with rappers and it's really dope
I remember seeing Playboy Mansion the Game in the video store as a kid. Had to be explained by a more mature classmate why it was not for kids. Lord was I naive. Up until today it felt like a fever dream. 😂
GETTING UP, i used to do graffiti art alot in my younger years in really sketchy places, and when this game came out it was like it was made for me, plus it was sick, and the music was NOICE
Speaking of Pimp my ride: - The contestents backstories are fake -The are connected to the production staff -The contestants were given alternative places to live for the filming of the show. -The cars are damaged and paint worn out to exagerrate the issue for the camera -Contestents had to rent cars for months as they awaited their pimped out ride -They fatshamed a contested by rigging their car with candy and food wraps just to install their idea of a candyfloss maker to the car. -None of the cars were repaired during the pimp out. -Alot of the cars were non-functional and needed wheeled out of the shop after the episode. -Alot of the whacky features of the cars were inpractical, didn't work and were illegal for usage on the road. -Alot of features added to the cars were removed for these reasons. -The reactions by Clients were completely rigged or faked -Alot of the cars that got pimped ended up being sold instead for a decent amount of money. Whether this covered the expenses for renting out a car and having to potentially buy another car at the end is a mystery.
Funny enough, American Idol realizes this blunder and eventually releases another game, but mixed with Karaoke Revolution. I remember seeing that game sitting on GameStop shelves for years before PS2 games would be phased out.
I have def jam fight for ny for ps2 and GameCube. I bought the sopranos for ps2 along time ago for under $10.00. I played pimp my ride on Xbox360 back in the day. I only have wwe crush hour for the rarity and obscurity. The ps2 has so many great games and I still have my ps2 and all of my games. At the end of ps2 life alot of shovelware was made. Save for persona 4 naruto shippuden ultimate ninja 4. I do collect obscure games that the mainstream knows very little about.
I loved the American idol game lol played it all the time BUT it did have a karaoke mode, but you couldn’t play that within the competition mode. It was a just for fun mode 😅
Def Jam Fight For NY wasn't weird, It was *Badass !*
I still play it to this day💯
It was weird AND badass. These concepts don't contradict.
And it sells for a pretty penny now.
@@pafoneto1275 I don't see anything weird about it but I respect your opinion
@@bigrayskitchen6803seriously have been hunting for this game and can’t find it for under $200. I think it’s one of the best PS2 games

If it wasn't a licensing issue we could
@@DacDaMan710 that’s a fact damn def jam 😆 🤦🏾♂️
We need all the Def Jam games in that bitch at the store that's what we need
We need a remaster of all EA BIG games. Nfl street, nba street, def jam fighting ect
Out of all the characters he could've named.
I miss the PS2 era with weird games :(
The ps2 and og xbox. Seems like the last generation with unique imaginative games. Now they are few and far between.
Fight for NY & Marc Echos Getting Up were some of the greatest games of that time. I still play them to this day. I also did own pimp my ride but that was a bit of a let down.
I was just thinking of ordering a ps2 copy of Getting Up, definitely one of my all-time favorites
Game was so awesome… I got the special edition it came with a black book and a silver marker
For those who don't know, Def Jam was created by an accident. It was originally supposed to be a WCW game with WCW wrestlers but WCW went out of business in 2001.
What a lovely way for it to happen
U can tell too I always thought it play exactly the same as WWE no mercy on N64 and all the other wrestling games released at the time
EA Sports BIG made some special Games of my childhood. Def Jam, NBA Jam, FIFA Street
100% and a fellow Chelsea fan i see, nice!
U mean Electronic Anti-Christ!!!
do you mean nba street instead of nba jam.
EA was the absolute best during that time period. Def Jam, NBA Jam, NFL Street, and NFS Ungerground 1&2. Oh how the mighty have fallen😢
Now EA trash. I missed the competition that use to be around. EA, 2K, Live franchises
What the hell was "weird" about DefJam Fight For NY?!
That was LITERALLY one the best games ever on the PS2!
Playboy Mansion was very underrated! I enjoyed the photo shoots, celebrities showing up to your party! I still play this game from time to time!😊
Plus the soundtrack is banging and that opening from prince charming is pure fire
Me too 😂

Marc Echo’s Getting Up was definitely a weird ass game. Never played anything like it but it was solid
Such a good game tagging all the trains and finding the black book😂
True!

Playboy the mansion was absolutely outstanding. And no not just for the jugs lol. It's a really fun management game.
Yeah it was just a Sims game with the Playboy license.
You little iggy piggy
I dont know how FFNY nd Marc Echo gettting up make it to this category they were the best games of all time on PS2
If they made a new playboy mansion, I'd play it lol
I remember playing Pimp My Ride & Playboy Mansion.
Marc Eckos getting up in a underrated classic, there is a movie in the works about the game that’s supposed to be coming out sometime in the future.
Avoid the Noid by Dominos Pizza is the strangest licensed game I have played on snes I think
I came for the Def Jam slander and found everyone straight vibin over how good that shit was, lol
Def jams damn I'd pay money for a remastered
I'd pay money for a Def Jam Fight for NY remaster or a proper sequel and again by proper sequel I don't mean whatever the crap Def Jam Icon was.

Def Jam Fight for NY was sooooo amazing i pray for a remaster or remake 🙏
Low-key loved the Playboy Mansion game..
The WWE one I remember playing as a kid lmao
Fight for NY was dope. 😃
The only redeeming factor about Pimp My Ride was Xzibit. Otherwise, the game had nothing to do with the show it was based on.
Crashing into other cars for money wtf 🤣
Pimp City. It took place in Pimp City. I don't know how Xzibit even agreed to lend his voice and likeness to that game
I played playboy when I was 10 & loved it
Playboy the Mansion was hilariously my teenage shame lol.
Playboy was dope idgaf... That game was more than a sims clone. Different feel, It had it's own Identity. I loved it!
It had topless girls lol.😂
Guessing they didn't wanna go full
Playboy e.g. sex, nudity etc.

It wasn't PS2, but it is technically a licensed game that was just odd, BK's Sneak King 😂
Sneak king and pocket racer. Weird titles lol
If they went to far with playboy
The mansion it would get an AO rating.
Another one that fits this theme is MTV's Celebrity Death Match. It's just goofy enough to be fun.
These are not weird enough to constitute being on a list of weird PS2 games. Where are all the strange Japanese made games released in North America?
Fight for NY is still one of the best fighters. Need another one
