@@123OGNIAN I just listed my three most replayed fps games and totally forgot to mention the one I played the most; Cold Winter. Weird how I'd forget that. That was an excellent game with some of the best voice acting. It was also extremely brutal regarding the fates of two of the main characters.

Black is such a highly underrated gem of a game
The only downside of that game was it only had the main campaign. However, the sights and sounds truly were immersive and I replayed several levels again and again.
Eh, appropriately rated. Uninspired environments and level design. Limited gun variety. And that ugly brown filter that became a staple of the genre

Great list! My most favourite PS2 First Person Shooter was, is and would always be 'Black'. Despite being a PS2 game, it showcased graphics equivalent to the PS3 beta display era. Perhaps, the only First Person Shooter that gave people the opportunity to enjoy the game with infinite ammo. I wish EA and Criterion release a Remastered version of it for PS4/PS5.😇

@@darklord9581 You're absolutely right, mate. My comment is based on the PS perspective. I have been a PS Loyal since 1994. Nothing against X-Box. I just like Play Station more than X-Box.
It's good that X-Box owners have the backwards compatibility option. PlayStation gave backwards compatibility after a long time. PS4 games can be played on PS5 whereas on XBOX, one may enjoy lots of classic games.😇
Hope the PS 'R&D' team takes this fact into consideration moving forward.

The problem I had with Black, is that I could not finish the last level whatsoever. I tried literally dozens of times but I just kept dying. even to this day, I still can't finish that last level. and to think, first person shooters are my favourite type of games on any platform. If anyone has any tips on how to complete the final level, then please let me know. Thanks.

The timesplitters series, Red Faction 1, XIII , Half-Life all have a special place in my younger gaming life with the addition of Return to Castle Wolfenstein being a top tier FPS for me too.
Red faction 1 had jaw dropping destructible environments for that era. I remember playing it and feeling like I was playing Arnie in total recall. Good times

Agent Under Fire was also a very good Bond game

Just a few extra mentions: Timesplitters Future Perfect, Darkwatch, and Urban Chaos.
Darkwatch was sooo fun... it had impressive ragdoll physics for the time too

Project Snowblind, Rainbow Six, Brothers in Arms, Call of Duty, Cold Winter were great too!

I miss my PS2 days Socom 2 every night with my clan, and then some Hardware.
The Timesplitters games were by far my favorite fps games back in the day. I really hope they bring them back in some sort of way in the near future. I remember playing the demo for area 51 on Mortal Kombat Deception.
Indeed in agreement all 3 were brilliant , theres a fan game of timesplitters that's being worked on , " Timesplitters Rewind " maybe pc only but looks promising

Timesplitters 3 Future Perfect was imo the best FPS on the PS2 and hasn't aged a day.
Agreed - amazing game. That disco map, everyone running around as cyborg chimps, the best fun I have ever had gaming.
And Cortez was an excellent character. His need to use his catch phrase and the reception it received was one of the reasons. I also loved the robot in the underwater city segment busting a move and falling down a pipe. Also had some of the sexiest character models, too.
The only FPS I ever played on this list was Area 51, it was a very good shooter on the PS2 and got me into aliens and space freaks, I'm glad I did play it back in highschool and i don't regret it at all, it's cool that Area 51 made your list of great PS2 shooter's well done Mojo Plays ✌️
Black might be the first FPS game I've ever played, and the Black game is the best FPS game ever on PS2, and the game is very memorable and makes me nostalgic.. 👍
It was a very memorable campaign, with plenty of yummy destructible assets, but damn, you had to work for those headshots. Some of those enemies were scary hard. Uukritzia!

I saw the last 10 seconds of a commercial for MoH: Frontline and it inspired me to finally get a PS2. I loved the game, even though there was a level in a bombed out city that took me what felt like FOREVER to beat. Wound up having to save my game after every few steps. When I finally beat the level, I got a gold medal rating because I was playing so cautiously. MoH: Rising Sun was pretty good, too.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein was also a fun game. I actually thought that game would make this list, too.
That game "Black" was one of the toughest shooters that I ever finished. Ah the good 'ol days! lol
Yeah that gauntlet mission... crossing the bridge was some serious shit. I played the hell out of Black, loved the infinite ammo unlock.

To hear that Time splitters is coming back is just AWESOME about time.
Every time I watch one of these 'best of PS2' videos, I regret the day I had to sell mine before moving. I loved these FPS games and, I believe, had every one of them for the system. I often found myself coming back to the Timesplitters games, Black, and Killzone whenever I had some time to kill. There were also the third person shooters that became first person at the push of a button that I replayed often. Thank you for making this video and bringing back some nice memories.
I've probably had over 300 hours of Killzone's Split Screen Multiplayer.
My friends and I got together at my house and it was the best Split Screen Multiplayer fun we had since 007 GoldenEye of Nintendo 64.
I also remember playing a lot of Singleplayer against Bots in a time when internet here in Brazil was a thing just for rich kids.

for me the best FPS were Area 51, Black, Cold Winter, Urban Chaos, Darkwatch, Project Snowblind, Mace Griffin, Peter Jackson's King Kong, Commandos Strike Force, CoD 2&3, Battlefield 2, MoH Rising Sun, Brothers in Arms

Battlefield 2 Modern Combat was absolutely brilliant. You switched soldiers with the press of the square button just by looking at them. You played both sides and the cut scenes showed propaganda from both sides too.
The best first person shooter on the PS2 is TimeSplitters Future Perfect.
Limitations were not the reason for how Killzone turned out on the PS2. It was rushed.
Rare to see someone else who likes TS3 over TS2. Both phenomonal games but the cursor alone makes 3 better than 2 imo lol
3 also has my favourite character in the series who isn't technically new but the 3rd version is the same in name only. That character is Jo-Beth Casey.

My faves that NEED and deserve a remaster were The Suffering, Area-51, urban chaos riot response, Medal of honor: frontline's, killzone, and not exactly 1st person and only a shooter in the last half of the game but manhunt was excellent.
Also a couple underrated 3rd person shooters, Metal arms: glitch in the system and ghost hunter, nobody I know has played these but they really are excellent
Aw man seeing the game play of a few of these games is really nostalgic, I remember playing the darkwatch demo so much til I finally got the game, darkwatch is a top 10 for me
Man I remember thinking these were cutting edge graphics compared to where we came from on PS1 and N64. For once videogames didn't look a pixelated mess. Even if the textures were still stretched and blurry, is was a beautiful thing to see.

007 Agent Under Fire is probably the 1st video game I ever played and the first game that comes to mind when I think of the PS2. Awesome game and really fun multiplayer
one thing i noticed about area-51 that i haven't seen in other games is the scope on the rifle, even when not zoomed you can still see through it which is something even modern first person shooters don't do

I love FPS games on any system. But one consistent problem I found on PS2 shooters was that I could almost NEVER get the aim sensitivity just right and that was a big annoyance for me! But if I had to choose a favorite on PS2 it would either have to be...Medal of Honor Frontlines or Black. Killzone would have been number one but I literally NEVER got the sensitivity just right for me. Not even KZ2 on PS3! Only in Killzone 3 did they manage to make the aim sensitivity just right, my favorite in the series.
It's too bad there's not an app to customize controller sensitivity and deadzone profiles... or a mouse/pad alternative... Fine aiming is a pain, no doubt about it.
Area 51 & killzone were great online and medal of honor rising sun, project snowblind, Blackhawk down. Something about having a mic and talking to someone was much more special back then.
AREA-51 (2005) is one of my favorite games of all time and the fact that it's featured here makes me so happy.
Area 51 was so awesome, I knew I had a great game in my hands when I was lined up with other marines ready for an ambush coming our way of aliens.
OMG Area 51!! I made so many foreign friends in the online mode in 2006 on PC... We even had a clan called "CFC".

How nice of you to finally recognize the Killzone franchise. While everyone was busy simping over Call of Duty, the true chads were playing Killzone 2 and 3.

I've never owned a Playstation 2 myself.
I went from the Playstation 1 to the Playstation 3 super slim.
And so I regularly went to an acquaintance of mine to play games on the Playstation 2.
Of all the shooters mentioned above, I've honestly only played killzone.
Later I bought the killzone trilogy for the Playstation 3 myself.
I had so much fun with Black and Frotnline’s been my favourite MoH game for more than 20 years. The Brothers in Arms series deserves some love though. It took FPS and added in cool elements like suppressing and flanking by commanding squads. Great games.

*edit: Ooohhhhh that's right BLACK is still a gem (the story is simple) but damn the gameplay was fun and the soundtrack was amazing)
It also earned the Greatest Hits and Platinum status for PS2/XBOX.
Also nice to see another favorite MoH:Frontline,which also had a god tier soundtrack composed by Michael Giacchino the same genius behind the music of BLACK.
The Area 51 reboot was my most favorite FPS on the PS2

Black hasn't been ported over to modern consoles. It is not on PS4 or PS5 which is a crime. Honestly that and area 51 should be on the PS premium
For great gunplay, great multiplayer, significant amount of madness and sheer variety look no further than all three timesplitters. 2 is the highlight for me
Honerable mentions, 007 agent under fire and nightfire, call of duty finest hour and big red 1, dark watch, red faction 2, timespliters Future perfect, medal of honor rising sun, quake 3, unreal tournament, solder of fortune, turok eveloution, urban chaos Riot responce, last but far from least, the og timespliters
One that isn't on your list that should be is Urban Chaos Riot Response. If you've never played it you really should if possible to do so.

UT on ps2 was a clunky mess , PC was the only true way to play it likewise with quake 3.
Solid list and I would also put Cold Winter and Urban Chaos: Riot Response along side any of those games.

Timesplitters 2 and 3: Future Past, also Killzone. All of which I played over and over countless of times.
It's amazing that timesplitters was never remastered on PC. That franchise had some BAD campaign missions but the multiplayer was ridiculously fun.
just found out about black from some other video, it's a fun game, only thing you'd be pissed with it is if you die, the checkpoints are useless since you have to start again from the beginning of the mission

Medal of Honor Frontline was my jam back in the day. I don't even know how many times I played through it. Even started it again a few days ago.
MOH FRONTLINE. I was 12 years old and played the demo of mission 2, which came with the official playstation magazine 06/2002. I was sulking for months because my parents wouldn’t buy it for me, since it was an 18+ game in Germany (although still censored, swastikas weren’t allowed in games here until a few years ago because of well, German history). when they FINALLY bought it for me, I was the HAPPIEST teen in the world. I would no scope enemies with the springfield or gewehr 43 over huge distances, know every single enemy spot and so on. it paved the way for my love of action games, and I have even platinumed the game on PS3.
Delta Force: Black Hawk Down was a sick game that released for PS2
I recommend playing Timeplitters 2 and 3 on dolphin with mouse injector, it´s literally like playing a pc port.
Absolutely loved red faction back in the day! I beat it so many times I lost count!
Project Snowblind deserves honorable mention
My favourite FPS are the two 007 games Nightfire and Agent Under Fire they are so underrated 😢

Black is an absolutely awesome game, and I sometimes even play it today…it was a shame it didn’t quite get the attention it deserved when it was released, as I think it came out on PS2 just as the PS3 was being launched, and got a bit overlooked due to COD MW…
Half Life and Timesplitters 2 are also still absolute gems to still play, though I think personally RF hasn’t aged quite as well…
Granted David Duchovny's voice acting wasn't on par with most of the VAs but he could have improved with other games and what not. Yes David Duchovny aka Fox Mulder voices the main character in Area 51

I remember playing 2:06 - XIII when i was young.
Through out my years i occasionally tried finding that game by typing xiv, xiiv etc but i couldnt find it.
And today i randomly come across it.
Had such a great time playing this game when i was young.

As long as Time Splitters 2 made the list, I'm satisfied. That's the main game that got me and my nephew in to fps. Black was good too.
I remember playing the demo of Area 51 from another video game disc. Man I wanted that game so bad! To this day I never played it.
I miss all these games, wish I never grew up, and can replay those memories all over again.
After just recently getting a ps5 seeing how far we’ve come from graphics makes me so proud, yes I loved the graphics of ps2 as a kid and still do but we all thought when we were kids I wonder if we’ll ever be able to play a game where it looks actually like real life and people look like real people and we are pretty much there it’s still gonna look like a game which I want but we’ve waited a lifetime for these times

Even if graphics improve I can't ever get excited as I did as a kid. Would even just imagine living in these worlds or acting out the action whilst running around. Nothing is as exciting as a kids imagination.
TimeSplitters was fantastic and i loved #3 as well. The tone, the story, the gameplay, the weapons, the humor, the monkeys.
Glad that most of the games from this list was released on PC.

I tried Red Faction for my first time yesterday..the controls..god damn :) It´s too hart when you´re accustomed the PS4/5 Shooter! ;) And i was born in the 80´s so i know these times hehe. I hope "No one lives Forever", "Black" and the "Timesplitters" Series comes to PS Premium!

XIII might be the most underrated game of all time. The feel of guns in that game was so good, the style was awesome, an over the top story that is reeled in perfectly to not make it absurd, and the offline multiplayer with bots was so much fun.

Killzone online was my first console multiplayer experience online. Noob tubing and cooking grenades before you died to get your killer after they tried to get your ammo after death was always a good time.
ok i love ps2 fps games and i've played almost all of them. This is my list (no particular order but half life is nr.1, plus one per franchise)
1. Half Life - brilliant port of a brilliant game, simple as that.
- Black - has it's problems like bit too buletspongy enemies, but it's a very open and well made shooter overall with killer visuals.
- Timesplitters 2 (although Future Perfect is amazing too) an incredible goldeneye-esque fps
- 007 Nightfire - second best bond game (Goldeneye is still a king to me), and THE best fps for couch vs matches - gadgets and map design makes even two player multi much richer
- Call of Duty 2 Big Red One - one of the best cod campaigns, that follows only one group of soldiers, great visuals, scripting and gunplay (i like Cod 3 even more but ps2 version is bit slow, and CoD Finest Hour is very underrated)
- Medal of Honor Rising Sun - Frontline and European Assault are also great but Rising Sun has very unique atmosphere, and i think that people too quickly judge it before they sink their teeth in much better gunplay than it initially seems it has.
- Darkwatch - super cool setting, great campaingn, and weapons that serve purpose.
- Red Faction - another great pc port, would argue that better than pc. Kinda like half life but with much more shooting, and less puzzle solving.
- Ghost Recon - great start for amazing franchise, gets better with every hour.
- Return To Castle Wolfenstein - again amazing port, amazing game.
- Soldier of Fortune - had to add it becuase top 10 was at least one place to thin.
I would add Deus Ex but it's a brilliant game, not nescesarly brilliant FPS, and there are many others lesser known like Cold War. Killzone though... not on my watch. Also No One Lives Forever is such a shitty port becasue it's just not playable on a gamepad - they completly screwd analog aiming, if not for that it would easly earn top 10, but i thing ps2 version is unplayable because of that.

KillZone 2 & 3 blew me away it was an upgrade from the first.

Area 51. I played the shut out of that game. I loved the online infection mode. What a weird and awesome video game.
Since PC ports are being included, I was surprised Deus Ex didn't make the list. I guess it's not the superior version like Half-Life is(?) but it was my introduction to the series and I played the hell out of it.
I actually prefer most of the aspects the PS2 version provides with the only negative being the areas being split up with loading zones.
Still an awesome game.
