I think they kept Beats separate because that way they can serve a bigger part of the headphone market. Beats have different qualities than Apple headphones and ppl who buy Beats probably wouldn't buy Apple headphones, so they keep it around.
They are in many ways the same company, and they do make things that overlap (wireless buds) but they still make different products for people with different tastes. For example, Beats makes over ear headphones and wireless speakers, both of which Apple does not.

I'd be super interested if there was an LTT video going into the pros and cons (audio quality-wise) between different music/podcast platforms. I really didn't know that there was any difference between Spotify and Apple Music and it looked like Riley didn't expect it either.
Apple Music uses a codec specific to apple products which optimises them. Some other earbuds could also use it (AACL). Apple Music has lossless audio which uses algorithms to replace lost data. Tidal doesn’t have lossless but it does have raw cd quality data which is apples lossless but they have the full data instead of replicating it. Both apple and tidal have support for up to 9216kbps audio. Spotify maxes out at only 320kpbs and UA-cam maxes out at 160kpbs. Bluetooth can only transmit like max 900kbps or something tho.

I actually do not like when headphones have their own separate EQ profile because there are too many issues already one built-in to the phone software at least on iPhone, another built into Spotify or whatever music app you’re listening to unless it’s Apple Music, and then if you have a pair of headphones with a built-in that is now a third equalizer. Personally I would just use the one built-in to Spotify it’s robust and works well.
