I dumped my Timberjack in some deep sand last week, and ended up fracturing my collarbone. It broke in 4 pieces and needed a metal plate to mend. I was truly considering retiring from mountain biking. Then I watched this video and it made me smile. Might be a while, but I should be back. Thanks for the video. Doug

I biffed it hard back in 1999 on Big Bear during a DH run, broke 14 bones, basically the entire right side of my body.
I was 15 years old, convinced I'd be a professional racer at some point, was expert class, racing UCI events.
I hung things up for a while, swimming as part of my PT regimen, and the track team in high school got me into triathlon.
I never raced professionally, but I did finish two Ironman events at ages 19 and 20, and I still ride road and XC at the age of 40.

I say all that to say, "never say never".
Though, admittedly, I've never put a bike on a chair lift since that wreck, and I'm a significantly more cautious rider. I competed well in a few XC races over the years, took some podium finishes, but it just didn't match the rush of DH and dual slalom.
And it was never at the high level of competition I'd grown accustomed to. 😐

As others have said, next time, go west. The east side is great, but when you're pushed for time you can hit a trail straight from the parking lot on the west. And let some folks know you're coming next time!

When it comes to Platte River State Park, the west side is the best side. Check it out the next time thru!

You MUST check out Cone Park, in Sioux City,IA, about 90 miles north of Omaha. Brand new this year. About 11 miles of dirt trails, with numerous jump lines, from intermediate to expert. Also paved pump track with wood jumps and wood wall banks. About 3 million dollars spent on this new mountain bike park.

That looks like a cool trail, I like those where you climb for a few minutes then downhill for a few minutes, gives you a chance to catch your breath and cool off when riding. Looks like you had fun!

I got the superior xp 929, and im loving it. $1199 for a carbon bike is a steal. Its blazing fast and easy to steer and pedal.

I got Roscoe 9 for 1999 Euros my size which is ML and fits perfect, but only unlucky thing that it came with TRP Slate Evo 4 piston brakes ,not with shimano m6120(depends where you buying)....Basiclly those trp are in category with slx but the problem is they support only 2.3mm rotors and i just cant brake in front rotor, always rubbing on the pads, even the boys in my service store tried and they couldnt solve it.So i will change that into XT brakes. But as a bike its amazing,it shreds and handles 80 precent what FS bikes can do,unbelievable bike. Cheers Matty 🍻🍻

West side of Platte is even better! Lewis & Clark is the other premier trail in the area over in Council Bluffs, but there’s quite a few other more chill trails to choose from: ua-cam.com/video/99_aapPbTEc/v-deo.htmlsi=Y6Y0uxiACa4Gvv3j
