    Gatekeepers are ruining biking for the casual person. They want you to be ashamed for not being on the most expensive bike with the highest available technology. Biking is about freedom and exploration no matter if youre on a used bike, high end bike, or somewhere in-between. I hope you keep up these budget friendly reviews for those of us who dont have thousands to spend on a bike or arent from money.

    I bought this bike for my girl last week. She did her first ride of 22 miles on a busy trail with no issues. This bike is changing the game one ride at a time. I might be on a $6k bike but the G1 might be the best bike purchase I’ve ever made

      Gear rarely makes any difference in performance unless you are the the absolute top of a sport and even then it is more about building the bike the preference of the rider and around their strengths and weaknesses. I wish the bike industry would stop trying to solve the smallest "problems" people have that is costing their development costs to sky rocket causing the bikes to be unreasonably expensive. We don't need yearly revisions of bikes either. A GOOD full suspension mountain bike shouldn't cost more than $1000 if it is ENTRY LEVEL and beyond $3000 for a "Mid" tier full suspension is insane. Unless you are going to a TRULY professional bike there is no need for the high end to cost more than $6000. You can't tell me they are doing more research and development than high end motorcycles and somehow costing more? How is it something as complicated as a Hayabusa is UNDER $19000 with FAR MORE EXPENSIVE components but a Rail 9.9 is 13.5k and realistically you are going to throw upgrades on it? The bike industry is in a horrible place and they need to come back down to reality.
      I'm glad you are happy with your purchase and even if something goes wrong with the bike or you want to upgrade something you will likely come out ahead and that is how it should be.

      Time will tell on the quality of these I suggest taking it to a mechanic and having them look it over. It’s the assembly on these bikes. People don’t realize how bad it is. That’s why they don’t cost as much. It’s not necessarily the parts.

    Not sure why there is a lot of hate with Walmart bikes. The reality is the person who is looking at buying a Walmart bike is most likely not at a point in cycling where they would consider buying a high end or entry level bike at a local bike shop. I still remember in 2017 buying my first mountain bike at a local bike shop (Performance Bikes) and almost had a heart attack when I saw the prices because in the past I bought Walmart bikes. The Walmart bikes worked for me because I didn't ride too far and I wasn't doing any crazy jumps since I had a wife and two kids who were involved in a lot of activities...and my job took a lot of my free time. Now that my kids are grown and I retired from the military I have the ability to ride more and to ride much further to explore. Walmart bikes are for people who want a bike or on a budget and that is what they can afford to get into cycling. I think one of the reasons Walmart bikes don't last long is that the people who buy those bikes may not take care of it with storing them inside or not doing the proper maintenance. Great video.

      People of lower means shop at Walmart. I notice there are a lot of Hispanic folks at my local Walmart. People of lower means sometimes live in mobile homes. People with lower means may not have had the educational opportunities. I just think some of the folks with money who have more options look down at Walmart shoppers and the items associated with Walmart. I think it's kind of a snob thing.

    • @TheArimatheus
      @TheArimatheus 2 місяці тому

      It's not about lower means so much as how focused someone is on something.

      A good bike shop will setup the bike you get. When you buy from walmart not only are they not fitted to you, not only are they not setup 100%, but they often aren't even assembled correctly. Some of the better Walmart bikes are rather good. I ride one at least weekly. But unless you are a bike mechanic like me or stop at the bike shop after walmart, you are getting something far worse than it can be, and a lot of people buy walmart bikes just to stop riding them because of that sub-optimal experience. That's not even getting into the safety aspect of riding walmart bikes right out the door. I love the bikes i get there, but i basically see them as a bundle of parts to complete a bike with.
      TL;DR Buy a walmart bike, but pay someone to have it get a serious run-over.

    • @zimmejoc

      It's the same with everything, boils down to status thing. I'd rather drive a long rides or dailies in a C6 than Murcielago. I think a lot of people really into a hobby enjoy, to an extent, it getting more approachable to the average person. It’s when those average people start trashing the hobby, and ruining the community, that they hate.
      I’m a huge hiker/backpacker. The gear I use approaches ludicrous prices for certain things and is very niche. When average people can buy decent quality packs or tents and they can hit the trails without carrying excess weight (that makes them hate the hobby) I love it. More people enjoying it means even better gear evolution, more funding it towards trail maintenance and building, etc. It gets better for everyone.
      What I don’t like? The people that get out on the trails and trash them by leaving garbage, improperly stashed food, improper trail hygiene concerning human waste, and even bad trail etiquette.
      Do I look down my nose at people with cheaper gear? No. I also understand from experience that certain cheaper options can limit how much a person truly enjoys a hobby, and I learned the hard way where the money is best spent.

      I rode across Oklahoma in 2022 - 450 miles in 7 days & my buddy had a medium high end Salsa Cutthroat with those wheels & Rene Herse tires - it was mind blowingly a great machine that allowed him to "eat the miles & bumps" like nothing else.
      The full Pros bikes would be even better still.

      But for you or I to finish or even finish well on the Ozark Trail in the Dirty Kanza, yes with a proper 50mm Tubeless tire upgrade yeah.

    I'm fixing to say something that will make many people think I'm crazy. (get in line, you're not the only ones). At this price point, this is a prime example of a bicycle version of a disposal razor. If it lasts 248 days, that's $1 a day, 124 days is $2 a day. (a lot of us spend more than that on coffee) You could scrap the bike, or donate it to someone who would want the frame for his/her build project. Considering Walmart's 90 returns, if it lasts less than 90 days, you rode for free.

    As for a quality bike? There is a specific criteria that makes one “quality” and price is certainly not one of the. As you have demonstrated. Essentially, if the bike is repairable and serviceable, then that is a level of quality. If you can replace components when you want and there will still be nothing that restricts you, that is another good quality.
    Just because components are in a lower grade than others doesn’t make them junk because the ignorant will either a: not have anything to compare it to; or b: unfairly compare it to something else with a different purpose.

    Back in early 2020 (before pandemic madness) I went bike shopping. Every bike I saw started at $1800 and up. Couldn’t then, and still can’t now justify that price for something I may not even like. Glad to see NUMEROUS reviews, yours included, that praise this bike within reason.
    Just bought one of these online an hour ago, should be at my house in two days. Looking forward to biking, and if I don’t like it Walmart will likely take it back.
    Thanks for your honesty, and entertaining videos that are approachable for a person that hasn’t been on a bike in 30 years.

    I like that idea of doing a series on "breaking in the bike" and replacing things as they wear out. That's what I've been doing over the last 5 years on my Marlin. It's inspired me to learn how to turn wrenches. It actually wasn't that hard to do. IMO it's something that every rider should learn to do, just like learning to lube their chain before every ride and wash their bike afterwards - and even changing inner tubes should you get a flat on the trail.

    The price point is why we are seeing so many vids on this bike. It is inexpensive enough for folks to "Gamble" on it. Worst case is it sucks and you take it back. I see tons of potential in this bike. $250 for a decent Frame only would be a bargain.

    I know you don't want to touch the bike, but to save heartache and pain you might consider taking that freewheel off and putting anti cease on the threads. It can get frozen and mess the wheel up when the freewheel is replaced. Just a thought.

    This is a killer deal for anyone wanting to get into cycling, its a lot of fun and comes ready for the action it is intended for. I bought it just to own a gravel bike. Granted i have more fun on my hardtail MTB and cycling for me is all about fun, this is more efficient than the hardtail as its a hybrid between road and retro mtb's with a road posture/handlebars and geometry favors speed, but if you're split in between a road bike and a hardtail, this is a great deal to get you out there pedaling!

      So, what would you say honestly, were all the bikes you built in perfect tune after they left your hands? Wheels true, hubs and bottom bracket adjusted, brakes and shifting perfect...?
      I built bikes for awhile for a well known chain bicycle store many years ago. I could build 2 bikes per shift if they were perfect when I was done. They always insisted on 3 or more, they would put them out on the floor unfinished. The idea was after sale they would finish the tuning, but they often didn't.

    I suspect if you're only using that bike on pavement and light gravel riding, and you're don't intentionally neglect maintenance it should last awhile. It's an entry level bike, but it's still not a "bike shaped object" like the traditional Walmart bike. The drivetrain is Shimano Tourney, which is a very cheap drivetrain, but as long as you remember to lube the chain it shouldn't break. If the hub bearings are crap then riding in wet or dusty conditions might kill the hubs.

    • @IowaNinersFan
      @IowaNinersFan 2 місяці тому +1

      I've owned a couple of Walmart purchased Schwinn bikes with Shimano Tourney drivetrain when I first started riding. They are ok for light and casual riding but definitely not for daily commuting. You're also limited in swapping out components and unless you have spare parts laying around, it will end up costing more than its worth to upgrade. Best part about this bike is the frame. I'd like to refer to it as the "poor man's" Poseidon. Definitely an entry bike for those wanting to experience gravel riding without breaking the bank and probably a solid Winter bike.

    I live basically across the street from where you were at on the big dry creek trail and ride around that area nearly every day. There's a bunch of little singletrack sections like at 8:10 - I actually have a video on my channel showcasing a lot of them. If you kept going north on the trail for another 6ish miles you'd end up right at the In-N-Out on 136th and I-25 - I call that route the In-N-Out Out-N-Back lol.
    Hit me up if you ever need a riding buddy, neighbor!

I was on a group MTB ride with someone on the Ozark Trail mtb and their only problem after a few rides was a chain break, my guess is that's one of the weakest points for a new casual rider on these... wheels and tires after that. I started on a Poseidon and it was pretty damn fantastic.

    I bought two for wife & me. Compared to my $4500 gravel bike it’s not as good… however, it’s a fantastic bike for cruising off the hard stuff. I’m not upset if I have an unplanned dis-mount, or if it got stolen. I don’t like the shifters & not a wide enough range of gears. But I’m happy I bought them.
