This has always been my favourite dream car... To me the lines looks amazing and very rakish, modern. I think with years this design will be appreciated even more
I recently was out looking to buy a BMW and I was absolutely in love with the GT. Some of the newer models come with the heads up display and are more refined than the 2013 model year. Though I ultimately went with the touring since I found one with less miles and for a cheaper price. But the GT is so underrated and hopefully as my next car I’ll be able to buy one if there’s still some on the market with low mileage
2017 340i GT past owner here, it was a wonderful car to drive in terms of having some fun on the road, with ample amount of trunk space. However, if you're daily driving in winter weather, or take frequent road trips that have uneven nasty dirt roads, I would re consider this car as an option. Especially frameless windows that will be frozen shut almost every morning if your winters get cold, causing the window to not be able to safetly drop half an inch for clearance. plus no personal storage compartments, barely a center console, and the wireless charging station doesn't fit iPhones. Navigating carplay via a dial because there was no touch screen was very awkward as well, especially considering my 2014 mazda 3 had touch screen. All in all, very fun car to drive, but not a very practical car for daily driving & adventures, even considering the ample amount of trunk space. With the frameless windows, how low it sits, minimal personal compartments, and a a stiffer suspension, it's fun to drive, but not really a car meant for comfortable cruising and ease of access. I personally loved the look but many people were thrown off by it. For all these reasons I listed I ended up going with an X3. Still quite fun to drive (not as thrilling as the 340i but good) and very dynamic as it handles confidently on sharp turns like no other SUV I've driven. I sacrificed a little bit of driving fun and style for a lot more practicality and I have no regrets thus far. Super easy getting in and out of, incredible field of vision, high elevation, tons of personal storage space, huge wireless charging pad, touch screen, and the list goes on and on. Much happier and comfortable in the X3 but it may vary on the buyer. If you want MAXIMUM practicality and still have a bit of fun then definitely check out the X3, basically the SUV variant of the 3 series. Awesome car. Im in my mid 20's with no kids and I love this car, my friends brag all their small sports cars and I'm laughing while I'm laying back letting the X3 drive for me.
Super useful review! I'm 33 with a first child on the way. And we're thinking about 3 series GT, Skoda Superb... Or some SUVs... Maybe I'll search for the X3. Thank you!
@@andreyavramov9326 From what I remember it didn't have active dampers and the ride was pretty bumpy on uneven roads or gravel. It didn't bother me much though, it was a very lively car to drive. I regret trading it, especially now that the 340i became popular again and is going for over 70k(cad)
I'd have this over the 5 Series because I'm younger, the 5 is more of an older persons car. I don't mind the looks, plus I'm tallish and the added room would be a big plus!
Good review overall. Regarding options and pricing, that's what you pay for the good stuff in a premium car. "Perceived" 5 series territory or not, the options don't come cheaper in the 5 series, and who gets the 5 without these extras? In the end it's the buyer's choice and the price difference remains the same.
I don't like how British car reviewers are always hyperactive and they don't seem to care about scratching/damaging interior bits. It's always about throwing items inside places and just rushing.
hopefully and hope they don't over price the car and keep it under 45 lacks or so and the 4 series coupe cant be more than 35 lacks and rumours say that they will get the 4 series as a 5 door coupe
So the tirenoise get in to the cabbin, when you had a drive in it was it regular rubber or run flat rubber on? the Bmw run flat nonsen is crap and make alot of more noise.
Oh never mind, I was wrong. I just checked again and those thin pieces of aluminium don't seem to be interchangeable with wood. Kind of disappointing since I'm not a fan of aluminium trim either.
As much as I like BMW and has over many years, I simply can´t familiarize with the profile of this GT same with the 5 GT. I find it un-dynamic to look at - the rear overhang and the rear slope without the classical BMW Hofmeister kink just makes it look heavy and boring. But no doubt there will be buyers for it. Fine review thanks ;)
Yes, the 5GT is worse, and the rear seats are very uncomfortable, which surprised me. The 5GT may be ugly, but it still carries the BMW badge. It shouldn't be so uncomfortable.
You my man, are correct! BMW rip you off with the options. One reason - business technique, to make the car's price rocket up and as we all know, individual options dont hold their value as well as packages, so when you buy another BMW and part exchange, they get it at a cheap price
I see what you mean, but still completely disagree. And I'm not a die-hard Bimmer fan. I'd say it is a matter of taste. BMW has gone back to a more subtle and classy design philosophy that you will still appreciate after driving a car for 3+ years. Mercedes has gone in the opposite direction with an exaggerated design that doesn't do it for me at all.
I traded an X5 in for this car in 2014. Though I loved the more commanding view of the X5, it is far more practical, and the ownership cost is much lower with much better gas milage and lower insurance.
yea if we try to get it from out of country it is going to be 200% more that is as good as buying the 5 series gt . why cant they launge such good cars in india
As much as I love BMW (fan and driver of them for more than 20 years) I don´t get them..."the new X4, designed to be a SAV that fits perfectly (??) between the X5 and the X3"...what´s next, the X4 1/2?
Who do you think the GT competes with? This was a comment to the statetment that nobody needs this car. How about grown-ups who want more rear seating space than the 3 series sedan or touring offer, but better driving dynamics and a lower price tag than the 5 series.
I'm one of the only Americans in existence who prefers wagons/estates. I'm no fan of this GT, I'm afraid. I own a 2007 328 wagon (E91) and would sooner buy the F31 version than a GT.
Their version names are confusing, but what is even more confusing and annoying, is that all BMWs basically look the same -.- I really can't tell which model is from 2005 and which is from 2013, they haven't changed much at all.
I'm doubting between the mazda 6 and this one... just can't seem to decide. I find the Mazda 6 more beautiful but the BMW... well it's a BMW.. and it has a hatch, wich is practical and you have a lot of boot space.
Guys! Seriously? Even Top Gear magazine saids that BMW 3series Grand Turismo is competing with the Audi A5 Sportback... Think before clicking the dislike button.
This has always been my favourite dream car... To me the lines looks amazing and very rakish, modern. I think with years this design will be appreciated even more
Yeah I really like this car, but here in the US, people absolutely hate it and I don’t know why

Mat, you're the best car reviewer in the world :3
If you take the styling away its actually a very practical car, i can see it fit for a family car. One of the most practical BMWs in a long time.

Did your GT have active dampers? If yes, was the ride in comfort mode better? Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Hey, Welcome back Matt!!
my dad just ordert this car at bmw, i can't wait for when we have the car
Bit late but is it/was it any good?
K L lol i love ours if that helps
There's usually an option for different types of wood inlays if you are willing to pay an extra few hundred.
Great review
its the 1st BMW that I like the look of for a very long time
it's a very nice fastback car it reminds me a bit of the rover sd1
YAY!!! Matt's back!
you said it man. 3 series GT and the 4 series coupe.. they'd better come. I guess they will in a year or so ?
Did you buy your clothes 10 years ago in a closing down sale at C&A?
Not sure I like the GT in any of these... The rear looks strange... But good to see Matt again !
Love it. This would be my next car.
Mat has been working out. Nice biceps mate !
Great review. Looks a solid proposition for bike owners... Even better than the daft new Active Tourer idea
I think this is because people who mostly do city driving are not potential buyers of this car.
It's here, and he's pronouncing it correctly.
I'd have this over the 5 Series because I'm younger, the 5 is more of an older persons car. I don't mind the looks, plus I'm tallish and the added room would be a big plus!

cro508 thats just Mat! You should see him now!!
Not really. But this is probably as close as it gets. The 3GT offers more function as it is much more spacious.
Excellent choice for my next car own a three series 320d ,missed the space of my mk4 Mondeo , this will suit me perfect ,no rear wiper again thou .
Good review, thanks.
hopefully and hope they don't over price the car and keep it under 45 lacks or so and the 4 series coupe cant be more than 35 lacks and rumours say that they will get the 4 series as a 5 door coupe
Just an observation; why do these reviews recommend the diesel engine? What about the people who mainly do city driving.
Mat, you're alive!
Best review in a while!
Matt from CarBuyer please, stop fluctuating your voice's volume level. I find myself constantly adjusting my computer's volume, it's annoying.
In the Renault megane 265 review he has a MASSIVE muscle
It's nice seeing a very sunny British countryside for a change.
The presenter has some nice arms as well.
The car isn't exciting to look at though.
Is this car a hatchback then?
So the tirenoise get in to the cabbin, when you had a drive in it was it regular rubber or run flat rubber on? the Bmw run flat nonsen is crap and make alot of more noise.
Glad I'm not the only one!
Why would a Sat Nav help the car hold the price? I still see people using aftermarket sat nav.
Matt , review the 4 series coupe please !
i'll get this next year!
Did u get it?

Which colors is this one bmw any idea
I would love it if you could review the Golf VII GTD. Any chance to see it in the future ?

Why have they took down the kia pro ceed video down?

decent review, but the only question is...
OMG, i watched your 5 series review and YOU WERE RIGHT !!!
