The random 'The children are the future' really gets me. Everytime.
They just needed a reason to have a childrens choir, was worth it.
Same
They can keep the children's choir but not the band bc choir > band. It's confirmed, it's official
The choir singing here is the South Bay Children’s Choir by the way! Rachel Bloom was part of it when she was growing up 😉
@@marisap09 Didn't know that! Thanks for the info :)
I just realized that if everything is Rebeccas viewpoint - this is basically Paula telling her to do something she's scared to do, but because Rebecca is so hard on herself, it comes across as Paula telling her to do something completely outlandish, because that's what it FEELS like to Rebecca...
Amazing. I didnt even think of it like that
while that makes a lot of sense and adds even more depth to Rebecca, I just like to think that, especially based on her later interactions with Rebecca, that Paula is just genuinely comedically awful at giving advice
I dunno, I want to believe that Paula told Rebecca to stand in a burning building, and always has a children's choir prepared in case she needs to give advice.
True but she tells her son in the same episode too run with scissors. I see it as Paula getting carried away with her comparisons.
It's how it feels to anyone with anxiety disorders. You also know too consciously how silly the fear sounds, but you can't work past it. So you either acknowledge this and get frustrated and hard on yourself for not "just doing it", or pretend that everyone else is being reckless and excuse it.
Either way, you don't win, not until years of showing to your brain that nothing will happen and it stops asking for a logical reaction to an illogical thought train that circles itself. And with very specific anxieties, like that of OCD or phobias, you need professionals who can help you figure out a good starting point, because if you expose too much too soon, you can make the anxiety worse. Flooding and exposure are some of the best techniques, but man do they need to be handled the right way.
I have social phobia for instance and in highschool it was treated as run of the mill stage fright. No one understood how much my body and brain betrayed me having to stand up and speak in front of others. It's a common fear too, so I'm surprised it's not handled better. But that's because the world doesn't like damaged or different people, so few measures are taken to help them function in a society that demands A game people.
It's really nice to see a show that even if the suicide part wasn't handled as well as it could of been, that it addresses mental health at all, especially something like Borderline Personality Disorder and makes it human all while having great and hilarious song numbers to help work through the far darker and real tones the show has.
"If someone pulls a gun on me, I pull out my knife" XD
Said someone who brought a knife to a gunfight :'D
Bad advice.
Bad advice, the thing that Paula brings to this exteemely toxic relationship.
Paula should finish the attacker with her choreographed leg kick ☺️

She actually was an opera singer before the show :))
I need someone to make a video of all of Paula's song. No narration, no commentary. Just Paula, singing, back to back, on loop, for like 24 hours. Lol.
Yes! I totally agree! I love her voice!
@self345 What? where, when, who ? TELL ME NOW PLEASE !
The part that gets me every time is when she says "Run with scissors" 😂

I completely lose it when she says 'wipe back to front'!
that made me think of Weird Al Yankovic's album of the same name, he showed up later as the hot air balloon salesman. :)
'Don't have an epi-pen ready' kills me every single time.
It also killed the little girl in Hereditary.
And yet in real life, it only kills you once 😆
Literally
@@klinksss well I wanna say the pole to the head killed the little girl, not the not having an epi-pen ready.... 🤔
''literally touch the stars, stars arent that hot'' HAhahahahah
I know this is a joke, but depending on the star (our sun for example) if you were to put your arm somehow into (most of) the sun, you wouldn't get burnt. It's VERY hot, but in most places it isn't that dense at all: it's just very diffuse hot gas. You would barely notice the temperature. It's quite interesting.
@@shestewa6581 I’m gonna need you to explain again how you can touch the literal sun and not get burnt.
@@shestewa6581 this makes no sense
@@mazvitaselemani It actually does. The sun isn’t like a solid object but a big ball of (mostly) very, very diffuse plasma and gas. It’s not very dense at all and the less dense something is, the less heat it can transfer because while the particles may be very, very hot, there aren’t enough of them around so the average heat/energy density is very low. A square meter or so of the sun’s corona if you put it in a box and put your hand in wouldn’t burn you because there’s just not enough *stuff* in it to burn you, even if the individual particles on their own are like a bajillion degrees.
@@micahgoldson1253 it’s because most of the sun is very diffuse gas. The particles may be very hot on their own but in most of the sun’s atmosphere the density isn’t that high and so there isn’t enough matter there to burn you.
Think of it like dipping your hand into either a box of very hot steam or a box of boiling water - which one will burn worse? The boiling water, because there’s more hot matter there. The outer layers of the sun are on the edge of vacuum, remember so the pressure is so low that the average density of particles is surprisingly low also.
My favorite part is when the chorus sings "School is stupid!"
I feel like as the chorus were learning this, the person teaching them had to emphatically tell them "Don't actually do this" between every line.
The chorus is the South Bay Children’s Choir! Rachel Bloom was a member of the choir when she was growing up 🎼

Oh my god i just got it! cause i have never rewatched the show twice
It's been years and "wipe back to front" still slays me every single time
One of the strongest aspects of this show is the fact that many of the songs start off with a reasonable, generic premise like this one. Face your fears, women gotta stick together, cold showers, friendtopia, a world without love, nothing is ever anyone's fault, etc. and then they suddenly get subverted and/or exaggerated to an extreme.
THIS!!!!!!!!!
Yess it's the people with borderline have a black and white worldview thing that is very well portrait
"Wipe back to front!" killed me, I cannot deal with how amazing and funny this song is and the show as a whole is my life
Her tone on "Join the Marines!" give me so much life.
Love how the run with scissors reaction is the most worried. "WOAH!"
I prefer just the rapid shaking of her head during 'fly out of a window, fly off a building'.
Shhh 1:22
It's also the only one (that we know of) that Paula actually said she says it to her son later that episode

Champlin described doing this scene in a recent interview. She said she was sh*tting herself out of horror during filming. No rehersal, no practice, first time in the costume. And TV production costs running at about ten thousand dollars per minute. She joked that if you look close you can see her eyes literally spinning in their sockets. She compared doing musical numbers on TV to a 'goat rodeo'. But she nailed it!
She faced her fears
Best Comment EVER
$10,000 per minute? They are standing in an apartment with a bunch of girls. How much could that cost?
Camellia M. You have to pay everyone on set - extras, actors, producers, grips etc
I'm pretty sure that she recorded the song before recording the scene... So yeah, she nailed the song, indeed, but what she is doing here is just lipsyncing.
"Stars aren't that hot" - love it.
I love how fast this song goes off the rails. 😂😂😂
How is this show not an instant classic?!?! This is A+ original comedy music and it's for a television show? This show is blessed with great writers and music producers.
I think the show will go the same way as Community. Struggling while on air and finding a bigger presence online, especially (and unfortunately) after the original runtime is over.
My only complaint with this song is that it doesn't go on for another 5 minutes. Donna Lynne Champlin is all kinds of fabulous. And kudos to the kid choir, too!
Perfect acting. Her hand gestures during “Fly out a window! Fly off a building!” 😂
This is the song that SOLD the show for me; I laugh every time!

Never really paid attention to the kids in the back before, but I love how they are SO INTO IT. Listen to those choir kids telling you to do dangerous things, Rebecca. You know you want to!
This is so inspiring. I think I'll fly right now
Fly out of a window!

Hmm, maybe I should run with scissors?
Guys I'll take being calm in a fire and breathing in smoke that's all me
I love the girl at 2:36 just absentmindedly snipping the scissors toward her face.
This song was so amazingly good and funny. It's like at a Trey Parker/Matt Stone "Book of Mormon" level. It makes me think that Rachel could probably write a Broadway show with funny songs in it if she really wanted to.
Did anyone else notice a couple of musical callbacks in this latest episode too? At the very beginning of the episode there is an instrumental version of "Feeling Kinda Naughty Tonight" playing in the background. And then later in the episode when Rebecca is getting ready for the party she is singing "The Sexy Getting Ready Song" to herself. I appreciate that they put that level of detail into the show, it really makes it a lot of fun to watch.
+BillBrasky2621 There are some seriously smart and talented people working on this show (not that I would expect anything less from a team Rachel put together), and it's exciting to think of how far they can take it.
I hope Crazy Ex-Girlfriend becomes like Rooster Teeth's RvB in that future rewatches will continually reveal previously unnoticed details, hints, etc.
And, oh my God, yes, there will be future viewings for me. There aren't a lot of shows I want to own on DVD, but this will be one of them, even if I have to download the episodes and make my own discs!
+BillBrasky2621 "It makes me think that Rachel could probably write a Broadway show with funny songs in it if she really wanted to." FK YEAH SHE COULD
+Chiara Bianca I have been thinking that too. Write a show Rebecca!! (And let me be in it!)
Bloom's already written a full length musical. I think her video 'Jazz Fever' may be related to it somehow.
Mike Duplessis
Wait, what? Why am I just hearing about this?
This was the exact moment when I was hooked on the show. I could NOT stop laughing.
I just love all of Rebecca's varied "wtf" expressions during this.
“Sit on my lap like I’m Santa” - that’s the moment I fell in love with this show lol
A friend just encouraged me to follow my dreams (and to face my fears by default) so I naturally started singing in my head RUN WITH SCISSORS
God she has such a good voice. It's great to see not only Rachael is a good singer.
+SmilingJack100 Did you see her number in the season finale? You learn new stuff, so you should watch it in order of the episodes, but her voice is amazing on that song. I think it's called "After Everything I've Done for You."

This song has actually helped me got over fears many times. It's so ridiculous but genuinely empowering.
There are so many great instances in this series of Paula's vocal inflections or faces being brilliantly funny, but seriously, the way she delivers "Sit on my lap like I'm Santa, and listen to me" just gets me every. single. time.

Well that escalated quickly...I lost it at fly off a building, though.

“Yeah I’m back here. Sing to me.” 😂
Paula is the best singer on this show and I'm glad she gets lots of songs to sing
This one was probably my favorite.
Most underrated show EVER?!
It gets me every time! I can't help but laughing at this! The observation of the cliché of facing your fears and how actually fear is a reasonable and helpful emotions in some way is brilliantly confronted. One of my CXG's favorites.
Donna is really hilarious while being gorgeous at the same time 😂 even with small details 😂
those lip twitches she does at 2:49 kill me every time I see them 😂 I just can't get over it 😂 such a small detail, bit so funny 😂
The faces and body language is amazing. I always laugh at “cuz you are amaaazing”
Join the Marines! gets me every time, she just sounds insane!
This is probably my favorite song in the series, so funny with Rebecca in the background. 😂
“If you’re in a burning building and smoke is everywhere.. keep calm, take a deep breath” LMAOOO
I really love how the scissors are obviously fake props.
Kingdom Hearts III: [repeats the chorus on a loop with faint Skrillex in the background]
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: "BEAR, I'M NOT AFRAID!"
I'm binge watching all songs from this show that I have never seen and I can't get over how each and every song is soooooooo absolutely brilliant in their details! The kids with scissors gave me crippling anxiety and they sung "school is stupid" to just crack that tension up. It's genius. I need to find this show and watch it. I want to give every possible award to the creators because it deserves global applaud.
Paula's facial expressions when she sings kill me😂😂😂
Donna’s voice is my favorite voice in the whole show ugh she’s phenomenal
So I've heard the interpretation that this is just Rebecca's point of view of how terrifying it is for Paula to encourage her, but later in the episode she reiterated the run with scissors thing with Tommy. I think she actually said that.
You could sift through this comment section and pull the entirety of the lyrics from the '[lyric] got me' comments. That's how good this song is.
FAVORITE SONG FROM THE SHOW 😂
SAME
I'm here just to say I need Paula's necklace more than I've ever needed an accessory in my life.
I love how the advice Paula gives is at first twisting of actual advice. You're not supposed to run from certain species of bears, you're supposed to make yourself big and stand your ground, and you're not supposed to find an exit from a fire if there's none that's safe- (e.g, a heated metal door handle) you're supposed to lay down on the floor to avoid smoke inhalation. But since the perspective of this song is Rebecca's, shed interpret that as outlandish.
And this was probably the third-best song IN THIS EPISODE.
i was 11 when this show started i absolutely loved every minute of it im about to be 17 and rewatching again i love this show so much it will always be the reason i love musicals.

donna's facial expressions really make this song. she's so talented and amazing!
It's not just that the song is funny AF . . . it's listening to that magnificent voice of Donna's! *Good JOB, God!*
I think this song actually represents how Paula gets carried away with her own belief and confidence that Rebecca can do anything. The musical numbers from other characters comment on Rebecca's perspective of them, yes, but also on the characters who sing them. Paula also has flaws, such as codependency, crossing healthy boundaries in the first few seasons (Everything I did for you that you didn't ask for, as an example), and living her life vicariously through Rebecca. In this song, it comes off as Paula's advice and encouragement to Rebecca that comes from a good place, but it is also reckless and overbearing, as Paula (in this season) saw Rebecca as a daughter figure who can lead an eventful life that she thought was unattainable and lost to her. At this point, Paula feels stuck in her life - in her role as a mom and in her career as a paralegal, when she is capable of so much more. So when Rebecca says "who are you singing to? sing to me" - that means that Rebecca can tell Paula isn't actually giving this advice to Rebecca seriously, but instead, is for a brief moment, indulging in a sense of escapism through her complete and total belief in Rebecca, enabling and romanticizing the recklessness she sees in Rebecca, mistaking it as boldness and confidence. Rebecca knows her advice doesn't really make sense, which is why the lyrics get more and more absurd and flagrantly wrong.
As much as many people just read into the fantasy musical numbers as Rebecca's unreliable perspective of the people around her, these musical numbers are also the show giving you an opportunity to uncover another layer to important side characters like Paula.
All the characters in CXG have complex traits, and everyone is given to flights of fancy like Rebecca - just not as intensely or disruptively. In a way, everyone is linked to Rebecca and can relate to her in some way. This is why Rebecca's presence in West Covina allowed everyone to find their true selves - Rebecca's flights of fancy and energy allows them to unsheath some of their own.
Can we agree that whoever writes these songs deserves a raise
Oh my goodness, the kids nodding in the background during those last vocal runs 😂
So envious of the actors in this show. Getting to act out the numbers & being able to let loose like no one is watching. A thing many of us save for the mirror and hairbrush because either we are too self conscious to perform like this in front of others & /or we would suck at it on a pro level. All though in my head when I'm actually singing into the aforementioned mirror and hairbrush I'm the greatest and would smash it if I was cast in the theatre production 😂😂🤔
"Don't wait 30 mins" I lost my shit at the point
Thanks to this song I fell in love with the series. Specifically the moment when kids are running with scissors.
