  • Lightburn vs EZCad2
A quick discussion comparing Lightburn and EZcad2 for galvo lasers.
Comparing price, support/updates, usability/user interface, and dependability.
    Spoiler… I’m pro lightburn!
I love it with all of my soul and I use lightburn across all of my lasers, diode, co2 gantry, and fiber galvos.

Congratulations on the videos. I wanted to know if there is a library of materials for MOPA 100W laser fiber on LightBurn.

Great video dude! Can't go wrong with Lightburn!

Enjoyed your video, I prefer Lightburn as well. Bit of a learning curve at first but a great design tool. (Also researching a Fiber laser now, I believe my business needs one to expand our product line. My 80watt Omtech has been running pretty much everyday since the beginning of September 2022)

Fiber lasers open up a completely different line of products and increase your efficiency of others that could be done on a co2. What kinds of things are you wanting to do with a fiber?

@@BeardedBuildsCo currently we do a ton of cups of all shapes and sizes, but we also do a lot of wood engraving and cutting. I want to start offering etching on SS, Aluminum and other metals (not using a marking spray)

I have no connection problems. I have lightburn on three different computers (PC laptop, Mac laptop, and PC desktop).
I have used all three computer on all of my lasers. 100w co2 gantry, 60w co2 gantry, 100w fiber, 60w galvo co2, xtool d1, xtool p2, and Ortur 10w….. so yeah I’m convinced. Sorry that you have a different experience.

Great video. I got some questions if you don't mind. So I just received my 60w mopa with EZCAD 3. I got it so I can do 2.5d work. Come to find out, I didn't need EZCAD 3 for that. Still a noob and learning all this and of course the company is going to tell you that you need to upgrade upgrade upgrade. So with the recent discoveries, I'm considering switching to ezcad2 so I can utilize LightBurn. But before I do, I'm trying to find the pros and cons with 2.5d work specifically. From what you know... what are the pros and cons of switching to light burn from my EZCAD 3 with the auto z axis? In other words, is there a real benefit from going through all the work of switching my controller and power source so it's light burn compatible? Is light burn that much easier and faster than ezcad3 that it justifies going through all that? Any advice is much appreciated man.

When lightburn came out with all of its features there was a lot of people that started to downgrade to an Ezcad 2 board so they would be compatible. From what I understand you loose the software control of the z axis when a job is running but I think the benefits of lightburn out weigh any losses.

@@BeardedBuildsCo thanks for the reply. Being that people are still pumping out some nice 2.5d work using light burn, do you think the auto z axis in ezcad3 would do any better? I'm trying to find that balance between quality and ease of use

The one thing that has me at a stand-off about switching from EzCad, I have so many settings saved in EzCad for different materials and what-not.
Is there an easy transition of those settings? Our specific laser uses a laser speed based on inches per second rather than mm per second. Is that something I would need to convert each individual setting over to mm/sec if we went to lightburn?

Lightburn still isn't supporting a pen table rotary either

It is out. You do not enable the rotary unless you use the horizontal pen jig. UA-cam it and you can find the settings easy.
