This is such an outstanding series of videos Rich, thanks for taking the time to do these ! It's kinda funny, I had just gone through all of the Lightburn docs and have to say, everything is in there. They were a great help in getting me going with my new CNC machine and understanding how the coordinates really work.I'm learning my machine for both CNC and the laser side purely for my own enjoyment (at age 61) and am having a blast learning and with videos like yours it really is satisfying to make progress and have things work the way they are supposed to..BTW, I only started down this path this past spring with a Genmitsu 6050...Fun stuff for sure, I should have done this years ago ! Cheers from Utah ;-)

I’ve always been fascinated by quantum physics. But, I am an absolute right brained individual and promptly fell asleep in trying to read books about quantum physics. So I never got the benefit of reading those books. But then, out comes Down the Rabbit Hole movie; a movie about quantum physics. As I watched this, all of my lights went on and I immediately understood so much of what I had previously read. I experience the same “lights going on” phenomenon when watching your videos. You have a good delivery and apply your information to practical usable things. I appreciate your work. Carry on soldier. :-) Happy holidays.

Instead assume that know know nothing and teach them, those that know will criticise you but those that don’t know will be forever grateful (and includes myself) keep doing what you are doing. Rich, just got my first laser yesterday and have been learning LightBurn by watching UA-cam videos and trial and error (so far, I haven't caught any furniture on fire).
I was engraving fairly small pieces (about 1" by 1") and was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to get the laser module / beam to return to the same spot when there was a new piece to be engraved. The first project came out perfect, but darned if I could get that laser module / beam back to where it needed to be on subsequent pieces. OMG! I'm old, my hair is already falling out, so I really don't need to be ripping it out by the roots.
I stumbled across your UA-cam video (yeah, you are a bit chatty, but we'll just call that being overly social?) and I will be forever grateful for you explaining how to establish an ORIGIN and ways to reestablish the ORIGIN. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Oh, and my hair thanks you too!
Thanks for taking the time and effort to enlighten others by sharing your insight!

Lol I called you hoby and you called me Jim...what are the chances haha...I was just thinking about when my Sculpfun is not in use(we're going to set a good spot out in our big shed..(previous owners had a machine shop, the structure is old and we use it mainly for storing lawn mowers, fish house and camper in etc) but it's perfect to create a small space for me, 3 out of 4 seasons-Minnesota here...but what of humid days -heat etc..will it damage the laser engraver? Should we make a plywood box cover for it?
      Thank you

      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  2 роки тому

Heat won't damage it Jill, but humidity will. Definitely make and enclosure or bag it when not in use in a thick garbage bag.

I got a corner bracket 3d printed for the same reason. Having a physical stop to line up 0/0 takes a lot of the headache away and for the simple solution of a framing square and some double sided tape it is well worth it! Too often people just think they can drop a workpiece down and get perfect results and they are disappointed when the burn ends poorly.

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy

The laser should come with a 0/0 corner attached to the frame!

I too just printed a set of corner brackets that align my honeycomb in a usable area of the 400x410 workspace my laser advertises. For instance with a pencil jig previously made, based on this video, what I'm gathering is to push the laser to the "new" origin (0,0 of the centered bed), fire it and line it up and then hit set origin along with user origin and lower left dot? Question then becomes like the elderly man you assisted, how do I re-align the jig design so I can just drop pencils in and print names? My sense tells me to make another one :-(, but my gut tells me there's a way. Thoughts?

18:24 I do something similar to the framing square. But I have a honeycomb that I always leave in place.
Instead of a framing square I screw a 12 inch square piece of 1/8 inch plywood in the corner of the honeycomb. I then draw a 12 inch square with the top left corner at the absolute position of X = 20 & Y = 20.
This leaves an "L" shape corner which is perfectly square with the laser and at the exact location of 20 20.
Now I can put my material in the corner and draw the material and set it to a "Tool Path" and use that to center my project.
Or put material in the corner and draw an array of places to put multiple blanks for coasters or anything.
It is so simple in use, but hard to explain.

Brilliant minds think alike Tom! 🤪 That's how I used to do my jobs with the honeycomb before the LaserMATIC. I had a 12x12 L made from wood with dowels in it that fit into the waste board holes.
