I was always afraid to have my wisdom teeth removed because I thought I was gonna confess my deepest darkest secrets while on anesthesia.
Edit: According to my comment, I wrote this 1 year ago. As of me writing this, I had just gotten my wisdom teeth removed a couple of hours ago and was using IV Sedation. From my perspective, I closed my eyes on the dentist's chair and then woke up in my bed. I had no recollection of any side effects.
However, according to my friend, I was acting exactly like one of those UA-cam funny wisdom teeth extraction videos. Apparently, I tried to do things like going back to the dentist's office to give him a tip, busted out crying for no apparent reason, slammed my head into a wall (apparently I couldn't walk straight), and didn't react at all, and broken a remote and spent 10 minutes trying to put the two batteries back in. However, according to my friend, I didn't expose any secrets at all, and all the times I talked I just said random stuff like "I want to go on a vacation." This was surprising considering I have many dark secrets.
Another friend of mine had gotten his wisdom teeth out, and he had IV sedation too, but he didn't do anything strange and was only very sleepy. So I guess it's different for everyone.

At one point I ended up with nasty facial pains. I checked with my GP, but I did suggest that it may be due to severely impacted wisdom teeth. My GP laughed at my suggestion and said that it was all in my head, and that there was absolutely nothing wrong with me at all. So I set up an appointment with my brothers dentist. After viewing the x-rays, he said that what I had was basically the worst case possible concerning severely impacted wisdom teeth. I was shocked when I looked at the x-rays. And so I was then sent to a hospital for the removal of all 4 wisdom teeth, since they were far too severe to be removed merely within a dentists office. Six months later, I had suspected pus infections where the wisdom teeth used to be, all due to the nasty new symptoms now at hand. So I set up a doctor appointment to obtain some antibiotics to take care of the problem. The doctor who was available on that day, said that I was a hypochondriac and that there was absolutely nothing wrong with me. So I set up an appointment with the oral surgeon from the hospital where the wisdom teeth were removed. He immediately found 4 pockets of pus infections, each being located where the wisdom teeth used to be. By this time, my face was also taking on the shape of a bowling ball, due to the infection spreading across my face. I was immediately given a big shot of antibiotics in the butt, right there and then, plus I was given prescriptions for further antibiotics. So overall, I had encountered two idiot doctors, and two good doctors.

Most doctors in the US are idiots who don't give a shit about you and don't know what they're talking about. My last doctor said something incorrect and a specialist came in 2 minutes later and corrected her. the doctor before that didn't know what a sprained neck was and sat down in front of me with a laptop to google it. then they tried to tell me my medical documents from an MRI didn't show slipped discs. It said clearly on the results on the paper IN THEIR HAND that I have two slipped discs. Before THAT, a doctor argued with me that I shouldn't drink ginger ale because caffeine is bad for you. Ginger ale does not contain caffeine. Every doctor I have ever interacted with has both not listened to me and also shown a general stupidity.

@@bossboy191919 It reminds me of another time when I saw a doctor, and prior to seeing him a nurse took a blood sample from my right arm. It was oddly painful, and the nurse was very angry at me for making such a big deal over me complaining about the pain. About 30 minutes later, I saw the doctor. By this time there was a huge bulge in my arm, packed with blood. Yes, the nurse had torn the blood vessel during the blood extraction. That was why pain had come into the picture. But anyhow, my right arm was completely useless for the next few months. It was simply way too painful if the arm was either fully extended or contracted, and so I had to leave it in the mid bent position throughout those months.

Fun fact: anesthetic acts so quickly your body can't feel it. The act of it making you sleep, and your body waking up from it, is so fast that it appears seamless. Most people's brains can get slept mid-thought and when they wake up, they finish the thought and take a few seconds to process that anything has changed about their surroundings. This makes it great fun to mess with people by changing the appearance of the operating room while they're still unconscious.
When I went for my surgery, I was saying "Ah, this is gonna take forever" after they injected the needle and nothing happened. According to one of the nurses, I passed out immediately after saying "gonna", and when I woke up I immediately said "take forever". My eyes were even looking at the same spot on the wall as when I went out, which doesn't happen during my normal sleep. They had to reassure me several times that yes, this is normally how it works

My wisdom teeth extraction was actually quite easy and painless. Had them removed in two appointments, one side at a time. The upper teeth were simply plucked off no problem. It was like - *POP* - gone. The lower teeth required a little more work (root of one snapped off, but it was relatively easy to remove), but no big deal either. So wisdom teeth extraction is not necessarily a horrible experience.

Quick note for people getting their top wisdom teeth removed: it's nowhere near as bad as a bottom wisdom tooth extraction can be. If your top wisdom teeth are bothering you, give them a go and get them extracted. It's basically similar to bottom wisdom teeth extractions, but it's not so bad because they don't have the same typical issues your bottom ones can get whether it's before, during or after the surgery.
It's kind of like a good warm up so you know what you're getting into. If your top extraction isn't so bad (it really shouldn't be) and you can handle the after care without any issues, the bottom extractions hopefully won't be too much worse.

I got my wisdom teeth removed two years ago at this point and my family didn't have enough money to put me down under anesthesia so I just got gas. It was just about the single worst experience of my life. I was awake and aware of everything that was happening to me and the memory is just as fresh now as it was then. They put goggles with a bandage over my face and I couldn't see anything, just white from the light as my jaw was held open. I was numb but not completely dull to all the senses, I felt them saw my teeth in half one by one and watching this video made me feel validated that it actually happened just as shown. I could feel the drill cut my tooth and I could taste the dust that was being put out. It tasted like burnt chocolate chip cookies. The worst part was the pulling of my teeth, I felt the crack and then the vibration through my jaw. The dentist office was in a spot where there was no wifi or any signal so I started playing a podcast but about ten minutes in it cut out. I was just stuck with earbuds in and just the sounds of them working on my teeth. I asked beforehand if I could keep my teeth and they said yes. After the procedure I asked about my teeth and they told me that they threw them away. So yeah! One of my worst experiences! The video is super informative though!

My brother's wisdom teeth's roots were curving inwards, meaning that any attempt to remove it would also pull on the gum. My brother went for local anesthesia, and the doc just kept increasing the anesthetic. He got 31 injections to reach a level where he wouldn't scream when they attempted to pull them.

I got my wisdom teeth taken out 4 days ago. I was never scared of the process, but more curious how I'd be afterwards. I've heard so many stories of people's face being completely bruised after, being in massive pain for DAYS, bleeding at the mouth, headaches, the list went on. So I was pretty prepared for the worst, as I always am. There was really no dire need for them to be removed, no pain or issues, but some of them had cavities and I think they also mentioned one of them began to rot somehow. (I don't even like sweets like that but ok) So I'm like fk it, just remove them so I won't have to possibly come back if they give me issues down the road. So I don't remember ANYTHING. Last I remember was talking to the dentist as I inhaled the laughing gas, and first thing I remember was being in my brothers car loopy as hell. I was OUT OF IT. Didn't even remember leaving or getting into the car. There was a bit of pain for the first few hours, but after the painkillers (I had oxycodone, ibuprofen, and amoxicillin as an antibiotic) I was fine. It's a little uncomfortable to open your mouth wide, sometimes laugh certain ways, etc. Today is my first day back at work, still no issues. I enjoyed my off days as they were painless and pretty chill. The itch though....no one talks about the ITCHINESS. If you remember what it was like when your teeth were loose and came out and the new ones came in as a child, that's exactly the feeling. It's annoying, and the painkillers don't do anything for that lol. But if I had to do it again, I would lmao. 4 day vacation doing minimal activities? Sign me up.

My wisdom tooth procedure was actually quite painless. I went fully under and I had no pain during recovery whatsoever. The only problem was, whatever anesthetic they gave me the worst side effects… I barely remember anything from when I woke up. The took me to a recovery room to tell me and my mom what to do, but I don’t remember what the room or nurse looked like or what they told me, and then afterwards, when I got in the car, I started having double vision and thought all the cars on the other side of the road were coming straight towards us… I got home, thought I was going to throw up, then sat on the couch and immediately passed out. Luckily when I woke up three hours later all my side effects were gone and even my bleeding had already stopped. Apparently they give you a very different type of anesthetic at the oral surgeon, bc I had three other procedures that year under general anesthetic that did not give me any side effects lol (in fact, it barely bothers me at all).

I had local anesthesia and I didn't have any pain but just the sounds that you hear during the removal process are horrible and afterwards it was one of the most painful weeks in my life. It also didn't help that the doctor that removed my wisdom teeth said "unlike other surgery, you don't need any precision or skill, you just need lots of brute force". And I was thinking he was joking but I realized he really meant what he said. He got the reputation to be one of the best wisdom teeth removal specialists and I really understand why, he did it fast and with lots of brute force but the result came out really nice.

hopefully someone nervous about it will see this: it was really easy for me. I only have 3, and only had 2 removed (so far). Bottom one had started erupting through gum and it was one of the most miserable pains of my life. Top one was crooked, which meant when I closed my jaw, it scraped the sensitive gum below. One day I had enough and scheduled an emergency appointment, which resulted in extraction. I was awake the whole time, the doc & nurse were very kind, and I didn't feel anything but the yanking of a stubborn tooth. It didn't hurt, just a lot of pressure. Now afterward, when the injections wore off-- that's when it hurt the most. But every second of that pain was worth it, even in the moment. The next day was much easier and after that, zero pain-- but I still took the meds to be safe. Very messy and I lost weight from lack of food, but I was careful and avoided dry socket.
If your teeth are causing problems, don't wait. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

I remember my own wisdom tooth extraction. It was my senior year of high school and I was given the preliminary knock-out drug early in the morning that day. For an hour or so I felt the effects of the drug make it harder and harder for me to think straight, I could still stand and walk, but it required strong concentration. When my parents brought me to the dentist and I went into the surgery room, the poor nurse assisting him was still new at the job. It took her three attempts to put the IV in the correct vein my arm before she got it right. Despite the fact that I hate needles/find them very painful, by that point, the preliminary anesthesia had taken so much out of me that I merely looked on in dispassionate interest. A few seconds later I closed my eyes to wait for the dentist to arrive, and I was out like a light bulb.
I did not dream or perceive any passage of time, I felt like I just woke up immediately after falling asleep, but it was 2 days later in bed at home with my gums swollen, my jaw tender and unwilling to move, and the procedure all over.

When I got all four of my wisdom teeth removed in one operation, they couldn't use anesthetic due to a conflict with my ADHD medication. Instead, they used a numbing agent, and lemme tell you, the operation itself felt like nothing compared to the pain of all the needles that went directly into my gums and the roof of my mouth before it. Fortunately, the bleeding didn't last longer than the rest of the day or so once it was all over.

I needed all four of my wisdom teeth removed a few years ago. I was terribly nervous with the first three because the dentist gave me a shot from a horse sized needle and then left me to stew in my anxiety for a good 20 mins. After about 10 minutes of him wrestling the teeth out of my skull I was utterly scarred and never went back. Went to a different dentist, a lady, for the last one after I begged my mom to come with me because I was afraid. Totally different story. She told my mom that I'd be okay and my mom went to go sit in the waiting room. The tooth was out so fast and painlessly that my mother hadn't even sat down yet. Legendary.

About 13 years ago I had to get 7 teeth drilled out in this fashion because they were growing wrong. The dentist did it all at once. It took 4 hours, I was not put under, I was just given a local anesthetic that wore off after about 2 hours. It was the worst pain I have ever experienced and I would not wish it on my worst enemy. I still remember the look of horror on the nurse's face as the dentists said, "Woops." and I see a ton of blood go flying up the vacuum tube.
I am glad to see for most people it was not a traumatic experience.

Getting my wisdom teeth terrified me to the point of no sleep for weeks, because although they managed to grow out of my gums, I ignored them for almost 2 years. Eventually the pain became so aggravating I finally got them out while fully asleep under anesthesia. I was really surprised at how simple it really was and how fast it was over! The worst parts for me personally was avoiding dry socket while eating/drinking; I got nauseous from eating the same 2-3 foods for a week, and I lost weight from not eating much. I also kept gagging with the guaze so far back in my mouth, lol. But coming from someone who has a severe anxiety disorder and everything went okay, I hope this message is able to help anyone feel less nervous at all. I had local anesthesia and even though the procedure broke my jaw (a rare complication if your wisdom teeth are particularly well-rooted) I didn't feel anything during or after the procedure other than the numbness from the anesthetic. Had all my four wisdom teeth removed almost a month ago.
Didn't feel pain besides the needle for the anesthesia. The recepcionist, doctor and her helper were amazing. The doctor also made me get great pills which made me not feel pain AT ALL after surgery. Pain was nonexistent. What was painful is not being able to eat harder foods. I got cranky the fourth to fifth day cause eating soft foods became annoying.

I had one of my wisdom teeth out a couple of days ago and yeah it wasn't pleasant hearing the sawing going right through my ear but my mouth and gum was completely numb so felt no pain. I had my eyes closed the whole time so didn't even realise the tooth had been out until they told me they were stitching up. Honestly for me, going to the hygienist is worse because due to my sensitive teeth, when they hit a nerve it bloody hurts.

Ah, so that's what they did to my teeth. I see, pft. I had like a sideways wisdom tooth, and one that was pocketed weird in my gums that had stuff get caught in it too much. And then one that just refused to come out. Apparently my fourth just decided it didn't want to exist, so that's valid. Probably knew it was gonna be removed or something so it just didnt try yknow-
No idea why this is in my recommended, but that is interesting to know, since I remember nothing from the surgery lol
All I remember before was them putting the drugs or whatever into my arm that was going to knock me out, and also adding in this other one that was apparently used to calm me down or make me less anxious. I hated it because it made me feel unnaturally calm, and forced it on me, and harder to think. So I told them as best as I could I didn't want that one, since it was kinda terrifying.
And then they put the needle in to knock me out, and then told me to count to about 30 seconds after it was administrated. And I remember counting like, 1.... 2.... 3... etc.
And then the doctor's asked me a question I think, before saying they were going to leave the room a moment, then I continued counting.
Next thing I knew I woke up suddenly after the surgery, not remember a single thing inbetween it. And my mom was going to bring me home and wheel me to the car, since I was still drugged up and tired. And I had like anethesia or something.
Anddd, yeah, it was a pretty long and painful recovery, and it sucked I had to eat so much soft foods like yogurt lol
But uhh, yeah, only surgery i've ever had too.
... no idea why I'm sharing this so late at night, and no one asked but yeah, that just came to mind from this single video idk man

Kiki Gaming for me it was the opposite the main thing that hurt was the huge needles for the anesthesia and it hurt a little during all the pulling. but after I was done and the pain killers wore off I felt no pain.

My removal was a nightmare. Because they also wanted to take out 4 baby teeth that wouldn't fall out as well as my wisdom teeth, and because I refused to go through with it without them knocking me out first because Laughing Gas does nothing for pain for me, they had schedule an anesthesiologist to assist with the surgery. I also contracted a 104 degree flu a week before the procedure, and wasn't fully recovered from it. So after they did it, my gums swelled up to the point that they covered my back molars. It also got infected and my flu came back. I didn't eat anything except a smoothie for two weeks, and lost 28 pounds. For a 90 pound kid, this was really, really bad. I ended up missing around 2 1/2 weeks of school. Worst experience of my life.

Alright, since yall are so worried about this, let me explain.
Depending on the sedation you get (get IV, trust me) you don't have to worry about the surgery, as it will knock you out. It's AFTER the surgery you need to worry about, becasue once that sedation wears off, your in for at least a good week of just pain

I still have all 4 of my wisdom teeth. One of them required an elastic separator so that it could actually grow properly, but after it was out the separator was removed.
The only bad thing about them is that they are hard to reach when brushing my teeth.
