I like how you understand birds still need to be treated right, but it's still good to get an older bird. People think it's easier to make a bond with a bird if they're younger, but older birds are also as easy. Yeah, it might take longer, but it will pay off in the long-term. Plus, older birds are mostly neglected because no one likes getting them because they'd rather get younger birds. The bond you make with the bird only depends on how you treat them and how much time you give them, not the age.
I found two mature lovebird a year ago, but still can't tame them. Well at first, they're so wild and don't want any human to get close with them, but as time goes by, they started to dare to be on my shoulder. But that's it.
@Just Someone - I recently got a very young pet store budgie. I'm not sure how young, but he had the bars going all the way down to his cere and his eyes are solid black. Anyway, I've had him for 7 weeks and he's still having a hard time adjusting. He hates coming out of his cage, ugh. I can leave the door open for hours and he usually won't come out on his own. He just sits there most of the time. My heart is broken for him. I spend a lot of time feeding him different veggies and working with him in the cage, but he's not playing much at all. He doesn't know how. I got a young one because I "thought" it would be easier but it's actually been kind of hard. The few times he's flown out of the cage, he's terrified and goes straight down to the floor because they pet store clips all of the birds. I don't want to re-open that issue. I'm just really scratching my head on how to speed up the "getting him to trust me more" process so we can start having some fun interactions, sigh. I thought it would be so much easier...

I dont really like cutting bird feathers, but when training lovebirds its ok. They will grow back by the time they are fully trained and will not need its feathers to be cut any further.
Nice video bro, I didnt cut my love bird wings, I played love birds chirping video and placed the device on my hand, she came to me slowly, and like this I also taught her to come in my hands and shoulders and gain trust, within just 1 month. Now I also kiss her whenever she comes to me😁
I love this bc everything you said was like the opposite of what everyone else was saying- through the knowledge right out the window, with your bird alongside it
The feathers grow back, and the bird will be able to fly, it's just so much easier to train the bird if it can't fly away from you when u are trying to train it
When I brought my bird, it was very wild and I was unable to hold it or feed it, so I clipped its wings and feeding it became easier with time. It got used to me and its wings grew, but I was always worried that it would fly to the electrical areas and get hurt or get stuck in a place and I could not find it, so I started closing the cage door constantly... With time, I felt that... Depressed...his wings were clipped again so that he could fly without rising too high. His cage is always open whenever he wants to go out and he can walk around the house comfortably.
@sofiabagiartaki7808 feed them from your hand so they associate your hand with good things and they will very very soon become hand tame. They have to eat at some point so they will eventually just come to you. I've done this with 6 birds so far and my african grey was supposed to be a biter when I got her, now she is the sweetest bird I know
well if you dont, thatll probably lead them to never love you, and in the end theyll probably live a stressful life around you since you cant let them out of their cage either as it too hard to catch and out them back. if you clip it, it gets used to you, and by the time its chill with you, its flight feathers probably would have grown back. so in the end, itll be happt and safe around, AND be able to fly. also, it isnt painful for the bird.
@@EnverWasHere i never cut my birds wings and they love me perfectly well and listen to me, they step up my finger and I can put them in their cage any time I want. I achieved this by being patient with them. A bird has a physical and psychological need to fly, they didn't get these wings for nothing
Idk man, this seems a tad stressful on the bird. Especially the "lock his feet" part. I'd much rather just take my time and let him slowly get used to me at his own pace.
Hi, i am agree with you, it is a little bit stressful for the bird. But at the end of the day, everybody decide how much time he is willing to give for taming his individual. Have a nice day.
@@ILiuHaBrO while I do agree that every bird is different, I also strongly believe that it is up to the bird to decide when it wants to get closer to you. Instead of forcing it to love you if that makes sense? Like yknow, being around it and giving it the opportunity to climb your finger or letting you touch it, instead of not giving it a choice :D
I’m looking into Peach-faced Lovebirds (and might get one), and how you explain things makes it sounds so easy! Now I feel like I will be a good bird keeper :)
I've had my little lovebird and he died last Year.. His partner earlier. He was my best friend and got be be 13 1/2 years old. These little birds can get ca 15 years old. What I want you to know is that you need to have at least 2 of them! It makes it much harder to train them (probably impossible), but they need another one. Without it's cruel to them!!! Especially lovebirds need a partner (also other parrots). So please don't take just one! It's turture. I understand you want him to be dependent on you. But why cut his wings as he loves to fly? It's a bird! Also when he's able to fly as he can he will get on your shoulder etc. Believe me. And you take away a natural Skill of him and a natural escape choice as you put him under a lot of pressure. So if you don't want your bird to fly away... Don't buy a bird. It's a BIRD. Sorry my englisch isn't the best but I wanted to tell you this :) It's no hate against you just something I want you to know.
Hi, i am planning to buy a girl in several time. I cut his wings because he never had an experience of flying. And this way i am not taking anything from him, i will let them grow when he will be ready. I just want him to be less stressed and way more powerful emotionally, because he can’t fly away from the problem but face it. Trust me, in a few week he will appreciate the power of flying way more than other birds. Have a nice day.
@@fredeck19 I have a couple of lovebirds whose wings are clipped. the wings will grow and replace just like our hair. sometimes 6 months to a year depending on how much was clipped. I clipped my new lovebird's wings and he can still get around. 😁

⚠️WARNING DO NOT READ IF SENSITIVE⚠️ : I trim my lovebirds wings too sometimes when he needs it. However it's not for my pleasure. I only cut his wings due to the fact that I had a lovebird that died about eight months ago. It flew off my shoulder while going on our daily walk in a new area.. there were cars nearby.. Sadly that was the day she passed away I went out and bought another lovebird about a month after not to replace my other lovebird but too keep my home bright and full of life. The lovebird that I bought is called blue she is a blue masked lovebird and he's completely healthy.
Aw, sorry to hear that. We didn't go out of our way to get our lovebird, he flew into our neighbours house and our neighbour doesn't have birds or anything for birds, me and my family do. So they brang him to us in a small cage they had and asked if we wanted him, he's so damn beautiful. He's got like a deep red, darker green and abit of orange yellow around his neck but it's like alot darker on the top of his head. He's absolutely beautiful, we've had him for a few months and he was in a cage with like 1 toy for awhile, me and my mum didn't really have alot of money and with this virus it's hard. We felt bad and the virus has KIND OF calmed down and my mum's been getting more money so she bought him a whole new cage the other day, then today we went to do abit of groccery shopping so we went and got him a bunch of toys for in his new big cage, then we met up with this breeder and got him a friend, they kept grooming eachother and laying against eachother making a heart shape between the two of them. It's so cute, they only just met and they're already buddies.

My love bird is one year old and I had him with me since he was like 4 mouth (I found him on the street, he was very thirsty and tired) but, even if he was "old" or at least not a puppy anymore, he's a really good boy! Two days ago he somehow menaged to open his cage while i was sleeping, I had my door and my Window open, but even if he had the occasion too fly away, he just came in bed with me and slept on the other pillow (he doesn't have his wings cutted, i found him in the streets, and i think that taking away from him one thing that makes him a bird is kind of egoistic)The only thing is that he bites, he does it to play, but still he doesn't know how much he can hurt! How can I teach him not to bite? (Sorry for the bad english, but I'm italian)
Thats a good point. Mine also bites, but i solved this by screaming: “Auuuuuu”. And also i have something that i say when he not bites too much, something like: you are a good boy. So he knows when he bites too hard, and chenge the pressure

I have 3 birds and they are all trained and tame, but i never cut their wings, its like taking away their safety, also flying is very important for the mental and physical health of a bird. there are many other technicues to train a bird, it just takes a lot of time and patience.

I love every kind of bird. Currently I have 2 lovebirds named skittles and lemonade and they were supposed to be tamed because the owner of the pet store lied to us saying they are tamed and I’m not an expert in teaching bird. I grew up with birds around me and all of these birds I had were tamed. But my love birds that I have are not tamed and I had them for almost 4 months and I don’t know what to do. I tried every method of gaining their trust but I fail and I need anyone help or advice because every time I went pass to them they just get scared as if I killed them or something and I think they had bad experience when they were in the pet store. Please I need your help.(sorry for my bad English) and mine is 7 months old
Amani Bashir I recently got lovebirds too and I haven’t fully gained their trust yet but I am gradually. You need to let them out of their cage frequently so it is handy to have a place where they can freely fly about for a bit and play a few times a day. Make sure that the things that they will be around are not toxic to them. When you let them fly about freely, leave them alone for a bit and maybe sit outside of the area watching them then try to sit in their with them so they get used to you. You can also try hand feeding them with fruit/veg that they can have such as grapes, carrots, etc. Don’t try to chase them about on the first few weeks as they will get scared of you, that’s the mistake I made. When they are ready, they will come to you and sit on your hands and that. Make sure you give them at least 2-4 hours of attention every day and they will start to like you. Good luck!
@@lauraanimation9884 well, They usually are the ones fly back to the cage. Or… only one left. Lemonade died few months ago, and Skittles is more terrified than ever, as he never leaves the cage anymore, only if we leave the house. Usually any simple movements can terrify him. I tried to stay around him as much as I could, but he still is afraid.
Houdini has nothing on lovebirds. I’ve had one slip through a tiny crack while my sister was giving them water and another opened the door himself and flew through. Make sure every exit is tied and CLIP THEIR WINGS. That’s my biggest regret. They can fly much better than they pretend they can.
First let him get used to your presence in a more quite room where he can abserve u with his cage. If u can keep the cage open once in a while thats a plus cuz he can fly in the room gain some confidence and also see u from above. Then when he's comfy w u,Bait him with treats present the treat first then ur hand. And eventually switch it till it come to your hand. Have patience
with all my respect i'm against cutting birds wings.. i have had a couple of peach-faced love birds at the age of 6 to 7 months old and i could tame them normaly and easily without cutting their wings at all.
@@elizabethhirst4040 Be careful, i never suggest you to cut their wings, never! your babies are still young and small and you can start tamming them easily but you have to be patient and to spend time with them as long as you can. also try to speak in front of them with a soft voice and whispering and they will get used to your voice.. usually after few days they will more calm, and slowly try to feed them using your hand, because females are more sensitive than males just go slowly and step by step until you reach the final point where you could get them outside the cage.. if you need more advices i can help you with that : just contact me on whatsapp : +213554737745 good luck & peace out!
This man is not a good parrot training resource. He forced his bird to accept this situation. His bird didn't choose it, so their bond is weak. Watch birdtricks videos. They always give parrots the choice to bond and train and their way is superior and builds bonds for life.

Hello. Love your videos. Super helpful. Was willing to ask some questions. Not sure if you are still answering since this video was made a long time ago but I have some questions. 1. Should I leave the food in the cage all day or should I put it in when it is time for them to eat? 2. What fruits and vegetables do they eat? 3. If my lovebird isn't drinking water, what should I do?

I dont really like cutting bird feathers, but when training lovebirds its ok. They will grow back by the time they are fully trained and will not need its feathers to be cut any further.

Nice video bro, I didnt cut my love bird wings, I played love birds chirping video and placed the device on my hand, she came to me slowly, and like this I also taught her to come in my hands and shoulders and gain trust, within just 1 month. Now I also kiss her whenever she comes to me😁
"they don't do a lot of shit" 🤣🤣🤣 haha great video!
@Rob H - They certainly do!!! LOL! I pray that I can train my little budgie because he's a poop factory!
I love this bc everything you said was like the opposite of what everyone else was saying- through the knowledge right out the window, with your bird alongside it
Don't cut the wings dude, that's not what birds are meant to be. Birds are freedom, not slaves

I've done this with 6 birds so far and my african grey was supposed to be a biter when I got her, now she is the sweetest bird I know
I love this video😭 i will get a love bird just because of this video

I died...and played that part 3 times more lol
I would never in my life cut any of my birds wings, I don't care if they don't love me, I'm happy if they are happy.
well if you dont, thatll probably lead them to never love you, and in the end theyll probably live a stressful life around you since you cant let them out of their cage either as it too hard to catch and out them back. if you clip it, it gets used to you, and by the time its chill with you, its flight feathers probably would have grown back. so in the end, itll be happt and safe around, AND be able to fly. also, it isnt painful for the bird.
@@EnverWasHere i never cut my birds wings and they love me perfectly well and listen to me, they step up my finger and I can put them in their cage any time I want. I achieved this by being patient with them. A bird has a physical and psychological need to fly, they didn't get these wings for nothing
Nice and funny video dude!!!! Support from Athens GREECE!!!!

Idk man, this seems a tad stressful on the bird. Especially the "lock his feet" part. I'd much rather just take my time and let him slowly get used to me at his own pace.
Taming an untamed bird is always stressful for the bird in some way. But yes taking ur time is good.

Did you get one?
I cutted my lovebirds wings and I am regreting it now 😞. Please do you know if their wings will grow back?

⚠️WARNING DO NOT READ IF SENSITIVE⚠️ :
I trim my lovebirds wings too sometimes when he needs it.
Why would you take a bird outside with no harness or training?
@@scottdixon2505 every day we would take a walk however that day we were in a new area.. Usually shewould be on my shoulder the whole time. It was trained she had never flew off so I'm not sure what was the reason she flew off of me.. Also I didnt even know harnesses for birds existed until 2 months ago.

I would rather never tame my two lovebirds than trim their wings.
They grow back. It’s like if clipping your nails prevented you from climbing. It doesn’t hurt at all and they grow back anyways.
wing clipping is a very bad. you are forcing the bird to be with you, this is not a way to earn trust, please educate yourself before teaching others!
is a 4 year old easy to train? pls answer!
It's not about it being easy. Each bird is an individual and if u want to have a bond with ur bird, train it.
Honestly, everything is possible. But it’s definitely harder than easy. You need more time and a lot of patience.

Good luck!
@aannaxo how do you get them back to the cage?
WOW! That bird has so many things in common with humans. That is so wonderful I can feel the love coming from that innocent little being
I have a bird just like this
But really love his cage that he dos'nt want to come out the cage . Your bird really cuteee 😍😍
I’ve had my lovebird for a few weeks and he’s still very scared and timid :(
First let him get used to your presence in a more quite room where he can abserve u with his cage.

I have two female peach faced lovebirds who are very nervous - I do not want to clip their wings they are 10 weeks and 16 weeks
Do you have any tips
I have only had them about two weeks now and am about to let them out for the first time
@@elizabethhirst4040 Be careful, i never suggest you to cut their wings, never!
your babies are still young and small and you can start tamming them easily but you have to be patient and to spend time with them as long as you can.
also try to speak in front of them with a soft voice and whispering and they will get used to your voice..
usually after few days they will more calm, and slowly try to feed them using your hand, because females are more sensitive than males just go slowly and step by step until you reach the final point where you could get them outside the cage..
if you need more advices i can help you with that : just contact me on whatsapp :

Fr, why did he cut the bird's wings?
Don't cut the wings ever.
It’s for their safety. Enjoy vet bills for when they fly into windows. If you open a window or door and you have the bird out…..bye bye birdie
That's how I like birds and other pets. Alive, friendly and happy. I don't want a dead bird, but I would have to take good care of it and even take it to the vet if necessary
