Thank you for this video, this was usefull ! I wish you good luck on your adventure on youtube. Be carefull on your background music (would be better with lower volume and less high pitched tones) ✌
Hey bud, either lower the background music volume considerably or take it out all together. It is very distracting and can be irritating to the ear. After all it's the spoken word that is more important in this case. Trust me, am an audio engineer.
Hello Jam, thank you for the video. Is Amaran 100 enough for full / whole body video shooting in the room which is having low / weak light ? Or is it just for good for portrait shooting ? I am trying to decide Amaran 100 or 200, but couldn't decide. If you can comment on that, it would great for me. Thank you.
Well hello fellow Okie creator. Awesome to find another creator in Oklahoma. Excellent job on the review. I have been looking into getting the 100x or the 200x.
Hi, I have a question. Currently I am using Neewer lights (2 of them). Will amaran 100x improve lighting significantly if I upgrade? If so, will one 100x light would be enough?
Hi Jake. Thanks for the review. Great job! Can you advice on why wouldnt you use this light as a working horse? Is that about light quality or smth else. Thanks. Cheers!
Hi there! thanks for watching. I wouldn’t use it as my workhorse light solely because it isn’t powerful enough. I’ve tried to use it as my key light on shoots and would love to have at least double, maybe triple, the output.
@@JAMImagery thank you for reply. I see. So its either Amarant 200d or Aputure 350d right? By the way what if you purchase 100d. Is there a way to modify color tempaerature via gels like CTO. Will this make any sense?
@@Dolphinlaugh Correct - the 300X has so much more power, though at quite the upgrade in cost as well. Yes, as the 200d is a daylight balanced light, you would have to use CTO or other gels to change the color temperature.
Thanks Jake for the review. The "dimmability range" of the 120d vs 100x is very illuminating. (yes, pun intended - big time). It is however true. I found your video because I am looking at the C300X. vs the 100X. You don't know if the dimmability range is on the C300X is similar to the 120D do you?
Hey Mohammad, thanks for watching! I found the 100X and 120Dii to be comparable at 5600k. However, the 100X has a range from 2700k to 6500k, giving the light more flexibility in color temperature to dial in the look you are going for.
Thank you! The 60b has a loud fan too, but the 100X isn’t too bad. I have been using the 300X lately because it has a quieter fan noise since I am using it at a lower intensity.
hey there, great video! I have a question for you concerning what you said about the dimming versatility of the 120d ii vs the 100X. one of the main reasons I'm looking to buy a low watt constant light is to use it for small scale still photography. I will be wanting to use the light at a very low output at times, and be able to adjust that low end output in small increments. the 120d ii is more than twice the price as 100x so I was wondering if you could give me a little more info about the differences of the 2 lights when using them at 1 to 10% power. possibly comparing there output through the 1 to 10% range. any information will be greatly appreciated as this will really help me decide how to spend my money. thx!!
That's funny. I keep hearing people say that the Amaran lights aren't good to travel with, they are just good for studio lights. I've used my 200x on over 15 shoots traveling around the country, taking them on and off planes, inside outside. I have it in a good case and I've had no problems. But, I've never just thrown my lights in a bag, they are all in hard cases. Heck if I can get two years out of this light its worth the money. Also, I do interviews I'm not picking up any sound. I did have to return my first 200x because it was making a buzzing sound, it was also when they first came out, but the second light works great.
Glad you’ve gotten good use out of them! I love mine, I just don’t think it has the output I need for a lot of my shoots. Just purchased a 300X for that reason. Happy shooting!
You can definitely use it for photography! Since video requires a lower shutter speed than photo to get a crispier image, you might want to use strobes or non-continuous flash lighting. You can totally use this for photography, though.

@@JAMImagery Just saw this review. ua-cam.com/video/W4-c6Y74gDs/v-deo.html Amaran 200x may be a reasonable balance.
Good test, i’ve been looking for something like this
what kind of diffusion did you use for this test?
I used the Aputure Light Dome II

The 300X is significantly brighter than the 120D. The dimmability is more comparable to the 120D as well. Thanks for watching!
@@JAMImagery thank you very much for the prompt reply. High output is cool, but as you I also appreciate the ability to go quite dim if required. 🙂
Thank you for the video, have you found a difference in the quality of the light meaning difference in colors compared to 120d ii ?

What brand and size soft box were you using for your talking head portion?
I was using an Angler Boombox Octagonal 48” with the Nanlite Forza 60b
@@JAMImagery Beautiful lighting setup! I’m using the Godox SL60w and it’s waaaayy too loud.

what kelvin do you set your camera when the light was at 3200k?
I made a mistake and set it at 5600k and corrected it in post. I was more interested in light quality for this test than I was in color accuracy
THANK YOU!!!!
Love this!!!
if you could do something similar with the 100x to the 200x that would be really helpful
I’ll look into it! I’ve thought about adding that light to my kit. Stay tuned and I’ll get the video out soon!
Can u use this light for photography?
Definitely! It isn’t a strobe so it doesn’t have the raw power output of a flash, but I use it for photography all the time.
So this light is on for UA-cam? How about Photography

The background music is very disturbing and loud.
Take that stupid music off.
