  • On 13 June 2020, Amateur Radio operator Peter VK1PE. in the Australian Capital Territory, got a mast erected. A crane came and lifted the ~200kg, four-section, 7.95m mast, onto the prepared base. Six pins had been set in the block of concrete 180cm into the ground x 90cm square; it and the mast were part of the house construction, approved by local authorities and after consultation with neighbours and other locals. The six pins are so I can support the base on any one pin per side and do maintenance on the other pins. The galvanised plates top and bottom squash the mast's base plate. The bottom ends of each two pins have plates held by nuts on the threaded pins, to transmit the load into the concrete. The mast was originally guyed, but on this plinth will only be extended with at least 2m overlap. Thanks: (1) My engineering-trained son, Steven. (2) Crane: Tadano GR-200EX, from www.rargroup.com.au
