Some nice cards here, cooking up some ideas baby. Started playing last year....around the same time started watching your vids. YOU'RE MAKING ME A BETTER PLAYER, Thanks brotha, I appreciate you
First time on your channel, loved your video mate. Subbed. Glad you mentioned Shadowspear. I have that used in my cube and wow. Its freaking insane right now!
Dev, I am also really excited to play with Nightmare Shepherd. I think Woe Strider could be a decent pairing for giving more control over when things die, but of course might be best in a rakdos or Mardu aristocrats shell. I'm determined to have Mono Black devotion be my first standard deck I buy in paper since about 2015. Cheers.
Great Video Dev! I think another good idea for a video would be the top 5-10 commons and uncommon from a set. Agonizing Remorse and Wolfwillow Haven seem like uncommons that deserve some discussion, for example.
Dev, you are the man! My honorable mention vote goes to Hydra’s growth. Seems pretty broken with like Voracious Hydra or something that’s main body is counters to begin with.
I think your list makes a lot more sense to me than some of the others I have seen. Shadow spear, in particular, I thought looked amazing, but was poopooed on a couple set reviews.
This list was great as always and I love all of the lists you make:) this is one of the best Mtg channels out there and can’t wait to watch the tier 1 deck dechs you do this season. One of the cards that you might have missed at least I don’t remember seeing it is the 3 mana Phoenix that can pump +2/+0 for 3 I believe and then escape later on with an extra counter. I think it has haste as Well so it could be great in mono red
22:00 "Oh, by the way, it also works with Dread Presence. That's pretty cheeky but it could be a real deck!" Yes, Dev, yes it absolutely could be a real deck because it IS a real deck in Modern called Scapeshift and Druid of Ilysian Grove is absolutely going to be played in Scapeshift, especially my preferred variation which is Titanshift. How many other cards in this list can you say are going to become a staple of a Modern archetype?
Great video bro, thank you! Thoguh, Purphoros is not a Sneak Attack effect since it doesnt provide HASTE. So... putting Illharg with Purphoros' ability would't do anything. I think it is not that broken. Putting Drakuseth might be powerful, but not broken since you have to pay the mana cost of Purphoros plus the ability. Anyway, my two cents. Great video. This is my first look at these cards and it has been a pleasure to hear you.
I liked the cards on your list. Some uncommons i felt could have made the list : Acolyte of affliction(eternal witness for black/green commanders?)..Minion's Return(Flash in-destroy-creature steal, seems good)..honorable mentions : Rise to Glory(value reanimate)/Mire Triton(I dunno low mana merfolk zombie deathtouch and mill yourself seems good in right deck) and finally Mirror Shield: hexproof artifact enablers have always been good commander staples)....obviously I am a commander main MTG player
13:57 lava coil doesn't kill any of the gods because they have 4> toughness???? It wouldn't kill them even if they had 1 toughness! (Lava coil exiles only if they would die to those 4 damage, and indestructible makes then unable to die from that)
Once you have seven Mana in a temur reclamation deck, as long as you've got the reclamation part on the board, you can explosion for 10 damage, draw 10 cards, likely into another explosion
I think the frustrating part with Elspeth is that the deck you want her in, doesn't really put cards in the graveyard, so effectively she isn't a planeswalker you can reanimate, because you'd rarely ever have the option to.
In case anyone was wondering why Nyxbloom Ancient + Nissa doesn't produce 6 mana from forests it's because Nissa adds the extra G, not the forest itself. So Nyxbloom says this forest produces 3Xmana and then Nissa says a forest was tapped for mana so here's an extra G.
Yeah, it feels like everyone's been obsessing over that (and to a lesser extent, Lazav's) interaction basically since the titans were revealed. I personally don't put much value in it yet due to how situational the combo appears and the fact that you need to splash white into these otherwise dual (or even 3) color decks to make it work, but it is certainly interesting and has the potential to be insanely broken depending on how the format shapes up. I'm not sure how well Mardu colors will work with Kroxa, but Bant has been a pretty damn popular variant of Simic for a while now, so Uro is more than a little concerning. On that note, I desperately hope something else comes along that makes Simic not broken this time around. I absolutely adore the color combination, especially now with the added power of Uro's life gain and ability to recur himself, and just want to have fun with a consistent deck that controls its own mana base to play huge, satisfying cards without feeling like an asshole anymore. Ramping with Nissa into a 10/10 Krasis that tells counterspell decks to fuck right off is so satisfying and I don't want to see them go, but I also don't want them ruining yet ANOTHER format (especially considering how insanely awesome Theros has the potential to be. Eldraine seemed kinda meh from the get go, but I can't stop obsessing over practically every rare and mythic in this set).
15:07 AliEldrazi was using this and at one point each land was tapping for over 20. Once you have one in play you can just draw until you get another.... And on and on. It's ridiculous.
Yah with Destiny spinner: I'm pretty sure the reason counterspells are bothering us more now is overabundance in each set. Wish they would just reprint counterspell then print five different versions in one set.
As far as Standard side board goes, Mystic Repeal could be in every green deck. Instant speed 1 mana pseudo removal for Gods could be an honorable mention
nightmare shepherd allows you to sac something you steal for a turn with a red card , exile it and put a copy of it on the bord , and thats my plan so far for theros
Ok, question... your number 7, Dryad of the Ilysian Grove. Does that mechanic essentially make all of your basic lands produce any color? If my forest is typed as a Forest Mountain Island Plain Swamp, then would that allow it to tap for any of their respective colors?
Of the cards i bought polukranos and i'm super happy with it powerfull and fun to play people uninmpressed don't know what they say once i start fighting with him they beg for mercy. Another thing i have 2 mythic wild cards where should i waste them i'm thinking elspeth for tokens and br kroxa for aristocrats looks decent
I believe the most powerful ability of a god card isn’t the creature part I mean a creature of medium power that can’t be killed by normal damage ways is great, but the passive ability of each one is what makes the card
I've been playing mono-blue tempo with Nadir Kraken and the early winrate is over 80%. Once you drop it on 3, you can easily win just by stocking the rest of your deck with draw and counter cards (14 counters, 5 bounces, and 9 draw effects). Here is the list--it only costs 3 mythic and 11 rare: aetherhub.com/Deck/Public/207583
Just play Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner turn 2, drop Nyx Lotus turn 3, untap with Kiora's ability and start dropping Nyxbloom turn 4 for just absurd mana ramp.
I disagree with the list highly, but its your opinion, so it’s fine to disagree. I would likr to ask though why do you not like ashiok more, esper hero with her, t3f, cerberus doggo, elite guard mage, and stuff like that will be insane, or straight up esper control with her and elspeth both of which look really good. I doubt the simic titan makes it into the ramp decks to begin with, the 3 drop that let’s you play an additional land per turn is far better for the ramp decks, uro seems highly overrated, I think there will even be a good chance of allot of other good decks out of this. I understand I may end up very wrong, but since spoilers have ended I’ve played somewhere around 100 matches of magic with friends where we are testing with new cards we proxied them.
No Idyllic Tutor? Underworld Breach reminds me of Past in Flames also. Thryx looks so fun Woe strider is ridiculous because of that line of text: ETB 0/1 Goat token! LOL ;P I like how Erebos and Nightmare Shepherd can stack triggers with Woe strider Elspeth conquers death and Kiora Bests the Sea God seem nuts for a enchanter control strategy Shatter the sky with indestructible creature over 4 power means you get a card and keep your creature and wipe the board LOL Nyxbloom Ancient=wtf Purphoros is absurd in a set with escape Dryad of the Illysian grove, LOL that art, this card is going to be a eternal EDH staple Klothys, I still think it should be Naya Shadowspear: Insane, but very simple design that comes off as lets just put a bunch of keywords on a card for a low cost. I would've loved to see a more interesting design :P Dream Trawler/Troller is going to be awesome in my Azorius fliers
Some nice cards here, cooking up some ideas baby. Started playing last year....around the same time started watching your vids. YOU'RE MAKING ME A BETTER PLAYER, Thanks brotha, I appreciate you
Love your work Dev. Surprised to not see Kiora bests the sea god in the top 25. Seems like a great curve topper under certain circumstances.
As a player that has transitioned for standard to mostly commander, I appreciate your frequent mentions of how cards can effect other formats
Me: Thinks I'm done with TBD coverage before Prerelease
Dev: Hołd my beer.
Great Video Dev! I think another good idea for a video would be the top 5-10 commons and uncommon from a set. Agonizing Remorse and Wolfwillow Haven seem like uncommons that deserve some discussion, for example.
Loved the list Dev, can't wait for deck techs. I could listen to you talk about my favorite game all day!
Mono blue thassa agent of treachery is going to be dumb
Dev, you are the man! My honorable mention vote goes to Hydra’s growth. Seems pretty broken with like Voracious Hydra or something that’s main body is counters to begin with.
Hydras growth on a Polukranos, Unchained after its escaped.
12/12 that doubels
Agreed regarding play styles of countering spells versus liking to play magic and liking to cast magic spells.
I like to cast spells too, just that my commander deck has 36 instances of the word "counter"
I like casting spells. I'm just happiest if when I cast spells my opponent doesn't.
Liked for the cat before the video even really started, thumbs up, quality content!
Me: 'I'm sick of Simic, hopefully they get a back seat in Theros.'
WotC: 'Simic will return more powerful than before.'
Oko got banned, so maybe not more powerful than before.
I just started with this set and the first box I open was a 36 card black box and I instantly got the planeswalker.
Dev and some Sumo. This is why I haven't slept since I got off work last night(hours ago). Let's start the days off of work good!
Great list, will be watching out for these on pre-release.
Archon of sun's Grace is a great card to watch out for also.
A card to defently look into is Thassa's Oracle it could easily become quite a broken card.
From the future , it did
Dev i just wanted to say i personal think you are an awesome human beeing. Have a great day everyone. 😊
My Standard Man! Ty for the tips, can't wait for your decks!
Like the Chrono Cross,in the background. I haven't played Mtg for a couple of years but I like this set.
22:00 "Oh, by the way, it also works with Dread Presence. That's pretty cheeky but it could be a real deck!"
Yes, Dev, yes it absolutely could be a real deck because it IS a real deck in Modern called Scapeshift and Druid of Ilysian Grove is absolutely going to be played in Scapeshift, especially my preferred variation which is Titanshift. How many other cards in this list can you say are going to become a staple of a Modern archetype?
Keep up the great content, Dev! THUMBS UP! Looking forward to Pre-Release!
Sultai ramp is an amazing place for Ashiok, destroy there Hand early with 9 Card Removal Spells then Ramp to Ashiok or Hydroid Krasis
Love your vids man, keep it up!
Always a good one on this channel Dev👍👌
Great list and Content as always. Thanks Dev👍
You are hardly ever a waste of time ... it's what brings me back to this yard time and time again ;)
You're right, we come for the cats. The mtg stuff is just a bonus
Just wanted to let you know that you look good this video. That is all.
If you play for such time a day you should totally stream, Dude!
Thanks Dev, always love your videos man!
I like mirror shield, first equipment I have seen that safeguards your creature so well.
Dev, we adore you and the cats.
Correction: 21:30 Nissa doesn't tap for double mana even with Dryad, tap for and additional Green Mana.
13:57 lava coil doesn't kill any of the gods because they have 4> toughness???? It wouldn't kill them even if they had 1 toughness! (Lava coil exiles only if they would die to those 4 damage, and indestructible makes then unable to die from that)
Yay. Waiting for theros to release on Arena. Thanks Dev.
Once you have seven Mana in a temur reclamation deck, as long as you've got the reclamation part on the board, you can explosion for 10 damage, draw 10 cards, likely into another explosion
Always love the vids man!
I think the frustrating part with Elspeth is that the deck you want her in, doesn't really put cards in the graveyard, so effectively she isn't a planeswalker you can reanimate, because you'd rarely ever have the option to.

No mention of Ashiok? Surprised. Watched the whole vid. Pulled an Uro on Sunday's Prerelease. Wasn't able to escape it unfortunately.
Bruh nyxbloom ancient went straight into my 5 color Hydra edh deck and so did dryad of the illysian grove
Thoughts on Nadir Kraken? I think that's a severely overlooked card, but I could be wrong
I feel like if unattended it absolutely will! I used it at prerelease and made sure I upped it every draw step and was able to overpower people
Yes my Voracious Hydra told me you missed Hydras growth. Have played many decks that could do anything to it so got big quick.
Spent the whole video wondering what the other half of your shirt says =P "Mess with the honk, you get the bonk"? haha
You nailed it, actually!
I. Ought the same shirt for my 4 yo lol. He was wearing it while i watched this.
Has anyone been talking about how the titans combo with hushbringer?
Or lazav
I ran into that pretty early. I don’t know how they defiled one of my favorite cards from Eldraine into something so vile...
Mono black devotion with a nice reanimate backbone is pretty strong so far
Another honorable mention is the Mirror Shield!
15:07 AliEldrazi was using this and at one point each land was tapping for over 20. Once you have one in play you can just draw until you get another.... And on and on. It's ridiculous.
LOL I was wondering if multiples stacked:P
Ashiok is going to be strong!
Mark, Peter, and Jacob my words!
Amazing list
We all knew number 1 in our hearts
Hey, Dev, you where’s your prerelease vid? Starts here in NZ in an hour and a half. 😋👍 love yuh videos. Keep up the good work.
Yah with Destiny spinner: I'm pretty sure the reason counterspells are bothering us more now is overabundance in each set. Wish they would just reprint counterspell then print five different versions in one set.
The thing I'm worried about with Heliod is that when he's not a creature, he's just an indestructible enchantment. What a pain
Then... Don't destroy it, exile it
Thanks - somewhat new and I found this very helpful.
No mention of 6/1 hushbringer combo? What are your thoughts on a 6 mana protection from everything
Love that Golden Goose shirt.
Enigmatic Incarnation seems like it at least deserves to be an honorable mention, can do some silly shenanigans with that card
Why does simic get so much love!? Easly the most op two colour deck
Well, it was probably the most underpowered color combo until last year.
Thanks for the video man!!
I’ve had more people scoop to Ashiok than any other spell so far. Close second being Aphemia
Kroxa, Titan of Death’s Hunger, looks A Lot like Yorm The Giant from Dark Souls 3.
Good stuff as always
Thx again for the nice video !💪
nightmare shepherd is gonna do work in my shadowborn apostle edh deck
Ok, question... your number 7, Dryad of the Ilysian Grove. Does that mechanic essentially make all of your basic lands produce any color? If my forest is typed as a Forest Mountain Island Plain Swamp, then would that allow it to tap for any of their respective colors?
Bama Red Runner yes
Of the cards i bought polukranos and i'm super happy with it powerfull and fun to play people uninmpressed don't know what they say once i start fighting with him they beg for mercy. Another thing i have 2 mythic wild cards where should i waste them i'm thinking elspeth for tokens and br kroxa for aristocrats looks decent
I love shatter the sky!
So, Simic 3 drop is the new meme?
Imagine if Oko was still legal.. 😅
I think that Ashiok card is Top 10. It can just take over games in control decks, like...Dimir decks, for example.
So no one's gonna talk about that Chrono Cross in the back?
if square enix release some remake of chrono cross, i will buy a PS for sure.
How does underworld breach work?
how i understand it the card cost 0 mana and you have to exile other card or am i understanding it wrong?
I believe the most powerful ability of a god card isn’t the creature part I mean a creature of medium power that can’t be killed by normal damage ways is great, but the passive ability of each one is what makes the card
I am so glad I'm not the only one starting to hate counter magic because of arena...
Storms wrath also hits planeswalkers which is a huge difference.
How many cats do you have?
It was Oko-tober. Now it Jan-Uro-ry
😄
Love the list. You need a dogo also!!!
omg nice, upgrades for my bant enchantress pillowfort edh deck :D
Yeah I wish they would have put the Escape clause on the sagas instead maybe more pliable then
I've been playing mono-blue tempo with Nadir Kraken and the early winrate is over 80%. Just play Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner turn 2, drop Nyx Lotus turn 3, untap with Kiora's ability and start dropping Nyxbloom turn 4 for just absurd mana ramp.
Thought erasure+ looks like a format defining card. Surprised you didnt mention it. Unless I missed..
I disagree with the list highly, but its your opinion, so it’s fine to disagree. Dev looks like [Charming Prince]
Whirlwind denial sees Uro at the top of this list, and itself nowhere on it, and it says "No, no, and... no."
Been spending most our lives living in a brewer's paradise. I hit my land drop once or twice playing in a brewer's paradise.
If you have three opponents and your X for gray Merchants is 7, do you gain 7 life or 21
😄
21
👍👍👍
Blink it with Thassa 2.0 and gain another 21 😁
@@TabooX1984 that's stupid starting to build now
I'm surprised Ashioks eraser and Thassa's Oracle didnt even male the honorable mentions👀
Yay! I have Underworld breach also!
No Idyllic Tutor?
Underworld Breach reminds me of Past in Flames also.
Thryx looks so fun
Woe strider is ridiculous because of that line of text: ETB 0/1 Goat token! LOL ;P
I like how Erebos and Nightmare Shepherd can stack triggers with Woe strider
Elspeth conquers death and Kiora Bests the Sea God seem nuts for a enchanter control strategy
Shatter the sky with indestructible creature over 4 power means you get a card and keep your creature and wipe the board LOL
Nyxbloom Ancient=wtf
Purphoros is absurd in a set with escape
Dryad of the Illysian grove, LOL that art, this card is going to be a eternal EDH staple
Klothys, I still think it should be Naya
Shadowspear: Insane, but very simple design that comes off as lets just put a bunch of keywords on a card for a low cost. I would've loved to see a more interesting design :P
Dream Trawler/Troller is going to be awesome in my Azorius fliers
why thrashing brontodon? it does nothing against klothys, nor with it
i honestly figured out an amazing deck for kunoros 👌🏽
Magic and cats, what you could ever want more?
what about that 1 green put enchantment into opponents deck card, forgot its name. card seems insane considering the set
every deck with green will have it his sideboard.
