Bernard could be the simulation the Strangers are put through before being released into the battlefield by the Star. Explains why the Stranger is such a polished warrior
Bernard, or as I dub him, "The Beginning" He's literally a square model of a person with no voice except for the Chains grunts and a super bullet hell style that is every other boss mashed into one. He's the first, the one all the things were tested on, the boss mechanics, the types of bullets, the way it flowed. I think the name works. And how fitting that The Beginning comes to fight The End in a place locked from time.
I tend to call him The Enigma. He's a complete mystery. He fights you in the void, with all the abilities of those you fought before, but unique in his use of them. Who is Bernard, The Enigma?
Or maybe he could be an ai that fights against Ryder after analyzing all his fights with the gaurdian and the Ryder himself who better an opponent then the very reflection you see in the mirror or what not.
@@gabrielh9524 I'm going with the head canon that Bernard is Ryder testing his skills to their utmost so that he can continue to fight against the Invasion, using the technology the Voice provides to him.

I agree, it's dependent on style. It didn't take me as many tries to beat Star on furier compared to Bernard, but I had also beaten Bernard by that point and these days I can consistently beat him unlike Star. Although, some of that comes from lack of trying. I don't love the Star enough to fight a dozen or more times, I do for Bernard though.
