    NICE JOB! WELL done! I love how you can twist it and fold it up! Give your self a BIG pat on the back from me! I'm impressed! Curious if it can also sink to catch pinfish as well?

      Thanks so much! The net will sink slowly without some added buoyancy, so for ballyhoo we zip-tie an empty water bottle to the hoop for flotation. Some videos show people sinking ballyhoo nets under chum to catch speedos. Never thought about using it for pinfish. Thank you for watching, and for the kind comments!

    Some times its not about saving money. Sometimes its just nice having something you made yourself. Im working on a hand made cast net right now. Its about 30 inches long so far. And it will be a one of a kind and last a lot linger than anything comedically made from panels and sewed together. And if it does tesr or get holes in it it is easy to repair. It will last me a lifetime. Especially after i dip it in net dip to make it tougher and uv resistant.

    They also sell flexible materials that are made especially for that. Nexttime order you some net panels or and tie your own netting. Yhis kind of net you made will be my next project.

      Absolutely Captain! When you factor in time and materials, buying one might indeed be cheaper. That point should have been made clearer in the video. DIY isn't for everyone, but for us fogies, it’s a fun and rewarding experience much like fishing! You can buy fish and lobster at the store, but it’s a lot more fun to catch them yourself. Thank you for watching, and for the comment!

    Congratulations for your video. Do you have a link for the net because I can only find two nets with large meshes.

      Thank you for watching and for the comment! Sorry, no link. We bought this cast net years ago and it was too heavy so it didn't get used much. That's why we used it to make a ballyhoo net. This net has a 1/2" mesh. What size are the nets you are finding?

      Make your your own. It's pretty easy but time consuming

      It works great! We do plan on making a video of the net in use, probably later this summer. Thanks so much for the comment and for watching!

    How did you get the castnet without the weights ??

    • @fishingfogies
      @fishingfogies  8 місяців тому

      It was just a regular cast net. This one was too heavy and didn't get a lot of use, so we repurposed it as a ballyhoo net. At 00:33 you'll see that one of the first steps was cutting off the weight line. Thanks for the comment!

    always use BLACK zip ties for anything outdoors. white ones are not uv stabilized and fail in a very short time.

      Thank you @fishonkayakadventure for the tip! Will change to outdoor/UV black ties soon.

      Next time just knit the ends together. And you won't have to worry about them ever coming apart or breaking.
