Also a key side note, you said e4 doesn't get played in the English but actually in the theory, there's a sideline opening where you play e4 with c4 for more pressure on that d5 square and get a Marocsy Bind structure. Its actually called the Botvinik english as its what botvinik played. Engine says white loses its opening advantage but its easier moves for you as your up a tempo so you take advantage of d5 before they get the chance to take advantage of d4
Would you consider playing the kings Indian defense against d4? I have heard it can get quite complicated but at the same time it’s being recommended to beginners by notable players like levy and Hikaru. I would love to hear you explain the general ideas, instead of having to learn endless theory.
Wow that’s perfect, didn’t expect you to be a seasoned kings Indian player. I wonder why it’s such a good opening for beginners, despite it having complex theory and problems such as lack of space. I think videos on it would be well received, I for my part would appreciate it.
Game 1. Yes, Qe4 is decisive, found it but thought that was easy, but I thought of Re4 which looks dumb. Game 2. Found it but only after I could find nothing else, and then went Do'h the knight retreat blocks the defense of the pawn. Game 3. You dominated that game. I was thinking b4 at some point when the q-rook was still on a1 though Re1 was probably better. Game 4. Black had misconceptions concerning piece value and you schooled him. Game 5. Good Knight vs, Bad Bishop. Domination of the center. good night nice to see you back. I took a 2-year break once.
I used to play the English when I was burnt out from spamming Italian every game.. The accelerated dragon has to be the most fun legit opening, and in the English you can often play the same setup as white
Chess openings help you become familiar with middle game positions that arise from them. It is important to study games that arise from those openings.
Funny how different people view openings. My response to getting the english on the board as black is "cool, reverse sicilian time" though i thought people usually view english positions as relatively borong, positional and drawish. And the funnyest thing about reverse sicillian games is that most of the stuff actually works. You can play a mock-morra, there's a reverse grand prix attack and being one tempo down might be huge on a titled level, but for any of us normies it makes almost 0 difference.
Your absolutely correct. He'll come to this conclusion with time and then will decide whether he wants to go neck deep into theory or just have it as another weapon to the vienna. Ultimately no chess player can stick to one opening forever and therefore will explore alternative ideas.
I think I like having the ability to surprise opponents with 1.c4, e4 just feels a little boring right now because I'm so used to it, can't hurt to get some variety I suppose
@@ChessCenturion all good mate, i understand why you lile the english :) I'm also definitely not one to think too much about how playable an opening would be on gm level, heck, my main opening as white is the kings gambit :D
@@ChessCenturion I've lost every single game against the english. Even after that match, even after learning the greate snake variation . So I've come to the conclusion that I'll abort every single game against the english.
i don’t understand u r playing opponents at the 2000 elo level without learning the opening?? does that mean we shouldn’t study at all?? also i’m pretty mad (😂😂😂) when i asked u if you’re going to consider a d4c4 speedrun you replied that your are a staunch e4 player and now this!!!! 😂😂😂
I think openings are far less important below like 2200 than people consider them to be tbh but maybe moreso in slower time controls, well you can get what u wanted today lmao
@ChessCenturion you'll learn as you play the opening more that you'll be kinda forced to learn theory. As they can play the nimzo which was never a problem with e4 but now you need to book up on what happens after for example c4 nf6 nc3 bb4. As when the Knight gets lost, you lose the pressure on d5 and need to learn these a4 lines that you discussed with the catalan. That's why I consider the catalan as my opening moreso the English as you keep e5 strong just in case your opponent stops you from keeping d5 to yourself.

Thanks for the info bro!
There is life outside of chess. Enjoyment vs. obligation. Feeling obligated is like work... tedious.
it's fine take breaks , upload at your own pace

It was my main opening for years so I could for sure, I switched to the slav cuz I hated the lack of space but below 2000 it's very viable

Will you do another round of the tournament with botvinnik and so on
Probably yeah, not sure when though

Yeah for sure, I just don't wanna memorise loads of theory
This is the time for a Ruy Lopez episode! Please man!
Day 11 of asking chess centurion to play the ruy Lopez?😂
As black, I always respond with the Anglo Dutch defense against the English. I don't know how else to play against it.
How does that go?
