I guess it's important to say that on 7:51 black do has a way to prevent white from queening immediately by playing Rh6+ and then Rh8 but white still wins because of d6
The very first thought that came to mind was pushing the right side pawn forward. Black’s pawn blocks the rook, and then you have your bishop for protecting your pawn until it reach the back row.
Bro as per your variation after the sacrifice of bishop to the pawn, then white pawn moves to e7, I excepted you also tell the variation of giving check by rook in h file and moving to h8 to prevent the promotion happens in e-file, but there also two pawns were acrossed 6th rank so the plan fails with another variation of rook to a8
White can force the promotion of one of his pawns: 1.e6 ch Ka2 2. Be5!!(If black takes then white has 2 connected passed pawns versus the rook) so Black should move his rook to his first rank 2...R a8! Then 3 Bxd6 and white still has 2 connected passed pawns versus the rook. When white gets a queen it becomes merely a matter of technique for the queen to win the game for white.
You would be correct if you were the only one making moves, but no, that's not how chess works, it's black's turn and black can just move either rook or king out of the way. And even if it was white's turn, pinning the rook to the king wouldn't achieve much, since black can just move the king towards the rook and protect it.
Having never (to my knowledge) encountered it before, I literally just won an endgame using the sixth rank trick! I decided to give up my rook for an enemy pawn threatening to promote, leaving me down three points of material (two pawns vs a rook), but I could see I'd be able to get both pawns safely to the sixth rank... So thank you, Nelson!
Just saw this yesterday, then in a game today I had almost this EXACT situation come up! Sacrificed the bishop, got a queen eventually and won. I couldn't believe it!
I would have loved to see the beglected variant of Row a8 inmediately after the beshop captures instead of advancing the king and how would that play out.
My rating is 1400, i reached 1550 once, i saw the first sacrifice, but couldn't calculate it all the way, but after getting a hint of sacrificing it again, i managed to solve till the end
Black wins, easily, because 1) The rook stops white pawns from promoting, 2) The rook easily picks off White pawns, and 3) Rook vs Bishop is a draw at the very least, more often a victory for the rook side.
It is illegal to move the king into check. Just think of it like whose king is being captured first. If yours, then you lose; therefore, it is illegal.
By method of probability, white wins. First of all, their pawns are going up which is a telltale sign, and also because as you’ve said yourself, about 99% of all composed puzzles is white to play and win 😂 Also, on a more serious note, I’ve seen enough puzzles to know that even though it’s tricky, it’s extremely rare for a rook to stop two connected pawns that far advanced especially if the one with the pawns can get support from a piece.
This amazing stuff is by far much better than the rushed limited timed chess games that you keep showing occasionally and they are insanely full of blunders.
You forgot to mention the author of this superb study : Hermann Neustadtl, composition from 1897 published in "Deutsches Wochenschach".
Thank you. It is unethical to post serious chess compositions on UA-cam without crediting the author.
I think us people can appreciate this puzzle but I'm pretty sure the bishop doesn't appreciate being sacrificed 😂
This is the advantage of having the Catholic powers on your side
That's the most suicidal bishop I have ever seen.
Bishop: "Go on. Take me, menacing moving castle. My descendants will carry for me and my king."
My ancestors are smiling on me, rook. Can you say the same?
I actually love how beginner friendly your content is!

So Peter Patzer successfully solved the puzzle and is able to escape from the giant’s playground.
4:50 Rook can just ignore the Bishop sacrifice and just Check the King on A2. On Black’s following move, they can move Rook to E2.
I think that the solution is the next: 9:05

what happens if the black king moves RIGHT to get out of the discovered check, and then checks the white king with the rook?
Black wins, easily, because 1) The rook stops white pawns from promoting, 2) The rook easily picks off White pawns, and 3) Rook vs Bishop is a draw at the very least, more often a victory for the rook side.
