Botvinnik probably invented every possible transposition out of the English Opening for Black. If he wanted to transpose to the Ruy Lopez or Kings Gambit against 1. P-QB4, he could do it. He was that good.
Thanks! Everyone opens up with e4 pawn. This opening takes alot of players off guard and gave me more ideas since I open up with c4 alot and learned a few of the lines via trial and error.
Really enjoyed this video. After a 17 year hiatus from chess and coming back and facing 8 year olds with vast book knowledge, the Botvinnik English was my savior.
I love your descriptive commentary SammyChess. Your explanations of what is going on in the games is also reasonably understandable for a patzer like me. I am mystified why you don't have many more subscribers.
Not going to lie, when I was ~13 or so, I started studying Botvinnik and his games and playing stuff he played and playing lines with Botvinniks name in them, my USCF rating skyrocketed. The guy figured it out.
As someone who plays the pano against caro, I didn't realize that botvinnik never played e4 and that it was odd the attack also shares his name as well. Pretty cool!
Did i see wrong or isn't that just Botvinnik's photo reversed in place of his 4th opponent's? Wait, the 5th is a car, maybe all of them are a trap well set? Oh yeah, i just rechecked them and only Keres seems to have an image. Good one, Sam!
I really enjoyed your video and would have enjoyed it more if you had a more relaxed and warm delivery. Otherwise it was very insightful thank you very much.
Amazingly, Botnnivik got white pieces every time.
HAHA, who would have thought that in a video of botvinnik's english, he had white
@@BREAKocean He certainly wasn't playing the Sicilian, although the English has been called "Sicilian for White".
Bro he just played Mikhail Tal with black.

Wow! Clear, precise, and helpful for my understanding of the Botvinnik English -and chess! Thank you! 🙂
Amazing how Yudovich looks like a mirror image of Botvinnik,
And Portisch is a Porche 😂
Because it is
lol it’s the same picture I think
Since 2018 I have watched countless chess videos on UA-cam. You are the first and only channel to ever use the term, "luft."
Naroditsky, powerplay king, king crusher, matojelic, and even fuckin hikaru? Lol and this guy is just good AI text speak
What? Eric Rosen says luft all the time.
I'm 1700 and on 17:35 I could only come up with Nd6+ and d5, but Bh5+ is such a brilliant sac that I never even considered it, wow!
Very instructive games with annotations !!

It is amazing how botvinnik was great enough to beat himself.

The guy figured it out.
As always, it was informative.
Thank you so much

Love your videos man
Sherbakov almost overcame his handicap of being a shrimp.
Great stuff! Thank you for your contribution!! Valuable!
17:55 The king would be forced to h8, not g8 cause of the knight on f6
First I thought you were an AI character
Great choice of games!
Wonderfull rook sacrifice

Just decided to learn English opening. Thanks for an awesome video❤
Little known fact: Yudovich was a dead ringer for Botvinnik.
Rudolf spielmann looked a little different than the photos Ive seen of him
Eh maybe its the lighting

Mikhail Yudovich and Mikhail Botvinnik looks surprisingly similar. Twins? :)
14:30 It is not even close to Queen Gambit, 2 move later we see the Grunfeld defense.
17:57 Kg8 is ilegal if the Knight is on f6, only Kh8 and Qh7 #.
Everybody attacks the knight with bishop once that knight is gone from move 3 the english dont Work for me
