3 30 minute lessons from my coach expressed better in 8 mins by you. Thank you Matt! 💪🏽
This may be the best instructional video on long iron I have ever seen. Wow. Great job Matt
tried the first one this weekend and instantly had a positive effect on ALL my clubs. Brillianr
Just saw this video a week ago and echo the sentiments of several viewers: one of the BEST VISUAL explanations why "someone's" 9-handicapper ball flight (um, mine) typically falls off a cliff at the 6i - 3W (range). I tried your takeaway recommendations and couldn't honestly believe the improvement in my longer iron/hybrid/FW wood impact and ball flight. Hoping it sticks, LOL. Didn't expect this level of superb full swing advice from Mr. Short Game, but there it is. Thank you 🙂!
Matt, I LOVE my Ping Gle2 4, 5 and 6 hybrids!!! As your favorite (and probably only) 60 year old Colorado Cowgirl Golfer, they are a lot more forgiving and dare I say it...FUN to swing. I haven't jumped the gun and gotten the 7 hybrid...but maybe. I learned on a 7 iron and I play mine very well. Having written this, I can hit the SHITE out of my hybrids!!!!!!! Thank you for everything you do. Your video on proper hand placement on the club changed my golf life and I hit straight down the fairway 90% of the time! I'm now working on "To hit more greens, you have to hit more greens!" Believe it or not, that mentality has really changed my mindset and...I HIT MORE GREENS!
Do you have a video on hitting the ball on the upswing, or how to properly hit the ball? I tend to hit the ball right at the point before the upswing and my husband says I should be hitting on the upswing. Is this correct? What do you suggest? I don't DARE tell my husband that you, my golf husband is advising me!
Much love to you for everything you do.
THANK YOU!! 🙏 I finally have been hitting consistent shots with my 6i and longer clubs!. You made it simple and it’s an easy and repeatable technique.
I really enjoy your videos, dude! I’m taking this one to the range. One thing I noticed about your swing is, in my opinion, the perfect position of your right elbow at the top of your backswing. That’s what I’m working on the most right now. Keep putting out videos, please. Your advice is legit, and you keep it simple. Many thanks!
Just had my 2nd range day with my new 4 iron.. got things figured out a lot better today. Stood a little further away, and worked on ball first contact and really got some great compression worked out. Really started pureing them, and it felt great.
This might be your best lesson ever. I gradually started noticing that my iron distances were not in sync, i.e. I can carry a 7-iron 190 but struggle to hit a 4 iron 200?!?! This is a lesson I have saved for repeat viewing or for whenever I fall back into struggling with long irons. Good one!
Will give it a go next range sesh. Thx Matt
Will give this a try. I am a year into golf and recently upgraded to some new irons (after using 15 year old ones that my friend had as a teenager).
I have been trying to also change parts of my swing. I think this combined with the new irons has meant I've almost taken a step backwards with my golf ball striking.
It's really frustrating but hope that I can get a few steps forward again.
Yes! Thank you for this. My long iron striking has been killing me lately and hurting my scores. Can’t wait to work on this.
Great video! I have never seen anyone superimpose the short iron/long iron swings before! That was an "ah ha" moment for me! I am saving this video for sure!
감사합니다.
Great lesson Matt. I'm that guy that can't hit a rescue club, but typically fair a bit better with long irons. Maybe these tips help me with the consistency that I don't currently possess!

Awesome video!! I like when you said to "loosen the screw" movement to keep the face from turning out in some of your other videos...great mental clue that works for me! Thank you!!

Can this method be done for mid irons?
You answered in eight minutes and two seconds what my 100 dollar an hour coach failed to answer yesterday. Thank you for this lesson!!!!
Awesome. Thanks for the lesson.
I book marked this for next season. Great concise video!
I have become a better golfer watching these videos and taking the lessons to the course. Thanks Matt.

Really cool learning concepts here. Greatly enjoyed this video!
Great Tip as Usually. Being Old School I prefer Long Irons over Hybrids.
Let's convert long iron into a loft - 24-degrees - the traditional 4-iron blade & now the loft of most modern 5 irons. Everything in this video is great. My keys: 1) ball position almost too far forward in the stance, 2) consider a lighter shaft in this club than your regular set to keep swing speed high without having to force it, 3) keep that right hand on top of the shaft during the backswing to prevent the clubface from opening, 4) feel a 3/4 swing length

I do a 2/3 swing. At 60, my back is not happy at 3/4s...but I still hit the ball LONG AND STRAIGHT.
great tips thanks!
Rotating of the face with long irons is exactly my problem, and I do not do this with my shorter irons. Eventually I had to go to a SUPER strong grip with my long irons to keep that club face towards the ball but it felt unnatural. I'll try these tips out and see if helps
Excellent, so clearly explained, thanks Matt!
Lovely lovely video. Helped me tremendously. Thx
Great lesson, Matt!
Great video and instructions 👍👍
You’re the best, dude! Honestly thank you bro👍
Like that super-imposed images. Viewers can comprehend right away. Thank you Sir!
Awesome video man! Would these tips be applicable to mid and shorter irons as well?
Awesome video as usual Matt! Thank you!
So....does the inside move cause the toe strike? May have to try the push out move. Thanks!
My ball position really helped me. I put it just about a ball behind my driver setup.
this is really key - it gives you enough time to square the club without feeling rushed and needing to do some crazy ass shyt with your hands - it also keeps a reasonable amount of loft on the club so at normal swing speeds, and not being on a tee, you can still achieve a decent peak height - i would say 90% of players don't have the ball forward enough
Thanks Matt
God bless you Matt!
Great timing! 💪 I was able to try this out just 20min after the video came out 😁
That 2nd tip was gold for me, thank you very much!!

Are you going to the WMPO this Feb?
Hey Matt how about your Bag makeup with the new rule change coming January 2023. How will the 18 clubs in your bag look like. How about a video
Starting the club back = Caddie Drag! 👍⛳️
Should you do the handle push with short irons as well?
Yank er to the inside guy! That’s me! Thanks Matt! 💪🏻
What’s really helped me hit my long irons is putting most of the effort into my left hand. Bobby Jones taught me that.
Faldo was IMHO the best long iron player!
Just earned a sub
You are enthusiastic I'll give ya that. Try this, go to a lighter flex shaft. I went to senior flex in my long irons, and voila worked like a charm. just sayin
Is it okay to hit my short irons with all these techniques too?
Changed my (golf) life. Another online golf coach had me doing the low takeaway and it completely ruined my swing, to the point where I couldn't even hit the '10 yard shot'. Thanks for the complete no BS s
Straightforward advice!!
I will always say no hybrids unless you are old or hindered in some sort of way- even then irons are always about finesse. I started on blades at 8yrs old (20 something years ago) and a blade will always teach you what you did wrong. It will hurt or may hurt (physically or mentally) but blades teach you always- hybrids are a crutch.

Your awesome
Question: I hit my driver 250+, 3W 225+, 5W 200 with a high draw; But my 7i only 135-140, 9i only 100, PW only 90 - all with very high slight draw. Why are my irons so short?
The pushing out is key for me.
I would say the problem with long irons is that a vast majority of golfers can't swing fast enough to get the ball in the air high enough
Didn't Gary Player have the same hand motion on his takeaway??

When you rotate your wrist towads the ground, you actually mimic a strong grip, why not just go for a stronger grip instead, which is way more natural?...

I shortened my 3iron and i just do punch shots with it
Good drills, but no mention of ball position. Thanks anyway
So long irons swing like a driver?

You must have been watching me yesterday when I hit 2 of the worst 4 irons I've ever hit!

I put a seven iron shaft in my 3 iron. 37.25. My new lethal weapon at 170 yards. Took it out all by itself and was on all par fours in 2 on 370 or less. I truly do not know why we now need 18 clubs in our bag. Dumbest rule change ever. Looks like we're going backwards instead of forward and I never go back to stupid. I'll keep playing 10 to 14. Hell, I play just fine with one.
Came for the long iron tip but stayed to see how your retractable screen has no bounce back! What is behind your screen?!?
one thing I don’t understand honk enough people talk about is don’t watch lessons from 10 different UA-camrs try to stick to one, they all have different swings and different processes and everyone teaches differently and then your not thinking about 1000 different things said by different people over the ball
No I’m not the before (heck I wish I was that example) I almost always fat the ball even though my practice swings are pure lol
The key to long iron play is to get hybrids. End of story. But good advice for sure.
Exactly
Good video as usual, thanks Matt. I wonder if you could clarify a bit though as pushing hands away seemingly contradicts tip 4 from this video: ua-cam.com/video/aXTpD6EiYdE/v-deo.html. Thanks!
I hit every club better when I feel like I’m pushing my hands away from me on the backswing.
First
Nice Swing 🏌🏾🏌🏾🏌🏾👍
