  • The Poundstone Shake is a blended protein shake consisting of chicken and water (and sometimes other stuff) that increases your ability to take in clean calories throughout the day.
Used by Blaine Sumner and others, it's effective, albeit gross. Here's how I handle my chicken shakes!

This is pretty neat idea... I want to get bigger but I have a hard time eating because I have no appetite. Chewing all that chicken breast also takes forever and the longer I'm sitting there eating, the more full I get. Everyone commenting that its gross have yet to realize how gross chicken breast can taste when you have to force it down. At least when you drink it, it's quick and over with.

Best way I've found to cook chicken in bulk (2 to 3 kg) is in a pressure cooker / instant pot. Quick rinse under the tap, then drop it in the pot. 3 to 4 cups of water, once it comes up to medium - high pressure, give it 15 to 20 minutes, then release the pressure slowly otherwise it spontaneously boils off an the shit goes everywhere. Guaranteed the juiciest chicken you've ever cooked. Literally falls apart in your fingers.
For extra credit, get some spices in there and you've essentially created a broth you can mix with the bird as a soup if you like. The flavors infuse throughout the chicken under pressure.
Also a plus if your cutting, no need for oil. Quick, easy, minimal mess and predictable.

Started doing chicken shakes this past fall. The first batch I nearly threw up, the second one I had the idea of adding tomato sauce used for pasta dishes and it really helped. I do 1 Cup of boiled chicken breast or thighs, 1 cup of sweet potato, 1 cup of rice, 1 cup of black beans and a liberal amount of tomato sauce and a few teaspoons of olive oil. It's a chore, but I really don't eat that much and with these shakes Im able to at least get 1,000 calories. Another tip, it really makes it taste worst but it helps in the calorie department, I add coconut milk, not the ones you buy to basically drink but the ones in a Goya can, much thicker and chock full of calories.

I'd be interested in hearing your take on alcohol and lifting.
Because of this whole Covid bollox I've basically been a hermit. Fell into a habit of drinking a bit too much. 2 weeks ago I decided to get back on track and drastically cut back on drinking (I had been on like 3 double IPAs 5 days out of the week, now I'm where I used to be, one or two of a Friday or Saturday).
My god, the effect to training has been incredible. I've gone from 173lbs to 167lbs without making any other changes. Weirdly Ive found that workouts that used to leave me crippled with DOMS (snatch grip high pulls, incline press to name a few) are noticeably easier to recover from. I've always done cardio 2-3 times a week for health purposes (heavy bag work); this has gotten much easier and I'm not totally gassed from high volume squat workouts.
Leaves me feeling super excited for what's to come!

I would assume subbing for bone broth instead of water, and matcha instead of spinach (for some caffeine) to your chicken juice would probably taste better? Plus you'll get glycine and more sodium. Im half way through drinking this now. Used 1lb of chicken breast, 3 large eggs, bottle of water, ice, and a couple of handfuls of spinach. Honestly its not that bad to me, i taste the eggs more than anything. Oh, also added some sugar. Took the bite off. So yeah, ill probably add less water next time. This batch is really watery. Ill say this is an acquired taste but try it out

    • @nano4778

I honestly don’t see why if it comes down to this, why you wouldn’t just get whey and casein protein and make a 50g shake that doesn’t taste bad and has just as high quality protein.. I mean you can substitute any other macros and micro nutrients from other foods if that’s the worry

You can do this multiple meals a day. This is chicken. I don't think it's a good idea to have 3 or 4 protein shakes a day. Eating chicken 3 or 4 times a day, on the other hand, is ideal in my opinion. No matter how you try to justify protein powder, it will never be real food

    • @Jmack7861

Anyway I make my nutrient boost out of protein powder and oatmeal to avoid having to eat too many full meals per day.
Also (this will make you cringe) I up my caloric intake by eating spoonfulls of olive oil. Guess that's just life if you are hardgainer with a low capacity stomach like me...
