    Pre watch guess list for the strongman exercises / events that Alexander Bromley puts in S for becoming more jacked and more generally strong and useful:
    1. Any type of off the ground loading event. Sandbags, stones, whatever.
    2. Overhead lifts, probably anything off the ground
    3. Any type of squat. He will make his obligatory reference to Mark Rippetoe saying “they make you harder to kill.”
    4. Farmers walks / handle carry’s
    You can rip me apart in the replies for everything I get wrong. I watch this man’s videos way too often lol.

    Dropping a comment bc I’m a whore for circus press as it is indeed a parlor trick lol I actually think there’s some utility as a general developmental tool but certainly doesn’t take the place of other overhead movements. Fun way to program them for conditioning is taking a lighter load and alternating hands for 6-10 reps each side. I’ve used this with clients before and it def catches up to you after 4-5 reps lol

      Close Grip Bench Press is one of the best assistance exercises for a strong overhead press if you lack pressing power but i would advice NOT TO use legs at all on a bench press in that case.

By the same logic you apply to axle DLs (i.e. the bar doesnt roll, move, bend, etc.) would you recommend axle deficit SLDLs over regular ones for stones as an accessory?

    A lot of unwarranted hate for the axle. For general purposes, axle anything will make you a better athlete and person. Maybe not specifically continental clean, but double overhand powers or even DOH continentals with an axle will make you a strong mofo - add to that the extra mobility it requires in front rack and the lack of whip in the bar have it in at least B, if not A tier

    • @AlexanderBromley
      @AlexanderBromley  Місяць тому

      Double overhand axle power cleans is a grip exercise, period... you can't build rate of force development in the hips when you have to slow the pull to keep it from popping out of your hands. Really, really bad way to build athletic anything

    • @strongmansam289
      @strongmansam289 Місяць тому

    As someone who doesn’t compete in strongman and only watches the big contests usually just the Arnold and bits of WSM idk why they keep the axle clean and press around. It feels like a red headed step child. We all wanna see people do heavy ass log clean and presses. The axle cleans look like shit out of a saw movie. I agree with the idea of just giving people a barbell and idk maybe not letting people do split jerks. That would probably be better for the athletes and spectators. Feel free to disagree

  • @fraserehl5894
    @fraserehl5894 17 днів тому

    Not to put too fine a point on it but in reality none of these exercises are particularly optimal for building muscle as they lack any kind of eccentric loading. We know that the deep stretch under load is the most hypertrophic part of the movement. Obviously you dont want a controlled eccentric when trying to maximize strength/reps. Additionally just because something is sore or you feel it working doesnt mean it's getting a good growth stimulus. Go run a marathon and your legs will be fucked for days after. Not good for growth though. After boxing my shoulders are on fire and sore the next day but it hasn't triggered growth.

    I actually think that Stones are closer to F than S unless there's an 80% chance that you're going to compete in a show with stones.
    1 Tacky on your hands makes it a smelly pain in the 🍑.
    2 The shirts, elbow/forearm sleeves and maybe gloves make it a different art form, like geared powerlifting.
    3 Risk of injury to you, bystanders and the gym floor.
    4 You're not going to find stones at a 24 Hour Fitness in Toledo, Ohio. You're probably not even going to find stones at a Golds Gym in Venice, California.

    • @AlexanderBromley
      @AlexanderBromley  Місяць тому +3

      -Don't need to use tacky
      -Gear just reduces friction allowing more weight, still grows the absolute shit out of your hips and back, nothing like equipped lifting
      - risk?? Lol the assumption is you have a place to do it and aren't retarded
      - anyone who wants can buy stone molds cheap, make their own and air load them in the dirt outside... did that for years.
      - it's a list of strongman events, not equipment you find at golds gym... you won't find any of these in Golds gym

    • @TheAyatollahofNofappollah
      @TheAyatollahofNofappollah Місяць тому +1

      1 You need to use tacky, if you want to get good at moving the heaviest possible stones... Just like you need time with an actual Circus DB to get good at moving the heaviest possible Circus DB.
      Large Sandbags are getting more popular at normal gyms. You can get the same benefits from Sandbags without the risk.
      2 If being mentally handicapped correlates with injuries... Then you are way more mentally handicapped than 90% of the population.
      3 Listen to your intro again 00.09 You said acquisition of size and strength, no assumptions.
      4 Oh yeah, gear reduces friction so you can move heavier stones. Gear in powerlifting helps you move heavier barbells 😅

      @AlexanderBromley 00:26 Aren't going to mess you up. Aren't going to waste your time.
      1 You put tire flips in the D/F tier because you injured yourself doing them. Stones are way more dangerous than Sandbags.
      2 Sandbags are pretty common now. So, unless there's a 100% chance that you are competing in a show with stones, building stones for your back yard is a waste.
      So, based onYOUR criteria at 00:26 stones should not be S tier.
      3 Standardized Test Scores? Now that's irrelevant 😂😂😂😂😂
