How do you get good colors from Sony cameras? I mean, AWB is often wrong, often too warm, even at White setting, sometimes it changes greatly in the same room, just by changing composition. It can even shift to green with certain CFL lights. It funny when you turn the camera on, the colors on LCD start changing, probably due to sensor warming. I can't use colorchecker for every shot, it would be totally impractical. Setting color temp is a no go, unless you just shoot the same subject with the same lights, you will end up with worse results than AWB. Never had such problems with any camera. But even when fixing WB in post still doesn't solve the color problem. The greens (like grass, trees) are totally wrong, I can't boost saturation without them turning ugly. The skin tones are wrong in subtle ways, I don't know how to fix that, the forehead may show different color shifts from say a neck in the shadow. Doing surgery in Photoshop? Though spending a lot of efforts in post fixing color problems can give a passable result, but when you compare with other cameras, the difference is still significant. I shot with several Nikons, which are using Sony sensors, they produce great colors, without much editing efforts, just move a few sliders and it looks great. I'm using Lightroom, my workflow needs LR, I would rather switch a camera than software.
@@lazy__pixel Just noticed this comment now, my apologies. It really all depends on what your shooting but if you want an amazing all around versatile lens, I'd suggest the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8. I've seriously been using a lot lately for all my portraits, content creation, street photography, brand work; literally everything!
@@ElementaryWatson-123 What camera are you shooting with? I know the older Sony a72's and 3's had not the best color rendition. They always casted a slight magenta or green tint to every photo and video. However, with the A7IV and it's new sensor and processor, I feel I get amazing colours out of this camera. I don't see any magenta or green casts and seems perfectly balanced in my eyes. I've also never experienced colors changing on the LCD. I would love to help you, but I've honestly never experienced anything like this; I don't even know what to say. I've taken photos with the A7IV and felt the RAW's were so good straight out of cam that I didn't even have to edit them. I actually talked about color rendition in my latest video: ua-cam.com/video/Y4vT16a4oIY/v-deo.html
Good job. This may be the one most helpful video I have ever viewed. I never knew about the memory recall buttons. Love to see one where you explain C1 C2 buttons. So helpful without any extraneous painful opening title segments or cheeky jokes. Thanks
Very helpful video as I’m new to photography and this is my first camera. What’s a good photo editing app that I could use as a beginner in this HUGE world lol.
You're going to love it! I typically shoot with a 35mm just because I love the look. However, 85, 50, 135 all of them are good. Currently shooting everything on the Sigma 24-70 2.8 it's just so versatile!
Hi stefano. thanks for this interesting video i got my new a7iv a week ago and my RAW photos has a realy smooth (grain or noise) in bot low light - night) and day light any tips how can i fix that problem...?
Superb video thanks for sharing it. I have an A7iv with 24mm f1.4, 90mm f2.8 macro and 100-400gm lenses (all Sony). I've been wanting to try portrait photography for a while, this is very helpful to get me started. Liked and subscribed
Hi I’am relatively new to serious photography I have set my a7iv to your recommended settings you use. 1 question please I have set portrait settings and assigned (1) so when im shooting in other settings and decide to do a portrait I would switch to position 1 will the camera be in point and shoot mode or do I still have to treat it as in manual mode. Thanks 🙏
I've been using the Sigma 24-70mm F/2.8 since the day I bought this camera for both photo and video. It's extremely sharp, high quality and I think the perfect "do it all" lens. If you're looking for two separate lenses though, I'd recommend the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 prime for portraits and for video I'd recommend the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 I mentioned or the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8. That's if you''re not in the budget for cinema lenses! Obviously theres tons of good lenses out there, these are just some I've tried and really liked!
Thank you guys for the feedback, so I’ll be filming a lot of car content. What lens out of the ones you guys mentioned would be ideal for drifting/racing cars, up close and long distance shots?
I'm predominantly using Sony 16-35/4G (sometimes Tamron 20-40/2.8), and Tamron 35-150/2-2.8. I never liked standard zooms, they are boring, so they are gathering dust.
I’m not a beginner photographer. I’ve been shooting Sony since 2012. I recently got the Sony A7iv and sadly it’s been a nightmare for me. I get error msgs often because of the shutter door and I can feel my camera vibrating at times. Idk if perhaps I bought a bad one (HOW) your video did help me to make sure my settings were good because I thought I was going crazy. Still unsure of what’s causing my camera to act up. I also noticed when I take portraits the face is completely sharp but the the feet are always blurred. I’ve tried everything.
You can’t post any raw files from any camera on Instagram. RAW files are meant to be edited and processed before posting. Import the photos into Lightroom, edit and then export as a JPG file!

Glad it was helpful! If you go to my channel and look at my recent videos, I actually made a few videos on the A7IV, I recommend you watch!
Stefano, what do you set the white balance for outdoor portraits?
I shoot in manual white balance at 5600k. However, I also shoot in RAW so I can adjust later in post!
Really helpful. Will give these settings a whirl on my A7iv. Cheers 🍻 👍🏻🇬🇧
Glad it was helpful!
do you recommend different settings for indoor portraits?
Hello. Many thanks for great video. Can i use All this settings for fashion photography? Or there are some differences? Thanks again👍
I have just bought this camera 2weeks ago with a kit lens.. I have definitely found this useful. Do you shoot portraits with an 85mm lens?

why do you use the electrical shutter instead of mechanical?
I don't! I'm almost always using the mechanical shutter, unless I need to be in electronic!
Mechanical shutter or Electronic shutter and why?
I have the a4r IV will these work 😭
Sure will!
a7rv or a7 iv???

For the number 1 dial saved setting , should my iso be on auto ?
I'm not sure what you mean when you say we can literally copy them. Literally meaning what?
