Completely agree, and the situation is a disgrace.. The Merseyrail Class 777 EMUs are only there for a short time, as there is no depot space to store them on Merseyside. The Class 701 units being stored are another matter. In view of the incredible delays in First accepting any of those units (they maintain it is largely due to defects and systems problems), it is ironic that when First won the contract to run South Western Railway they didn’t order more Class 707 Desiro units from Siemens. The 30 ordered by Stagecoach were fully accepted by the driving staff and working well in service. First thought they had a cheaper option from Bombardier ( now Alsthom) but what a joke that has turned out to be, with only two in regular use for short periods each day. If they had ordered a comparable number of Desiros, they would all be in service, and they could be running a full service ! You really couldn’t make up this mess.
Not the BR I worked for mate. Waste was a depot sport. I still recall stripping newly overhauled units to get spares off them, because the LTS services never got newly overhauled units
What a waste of coaching stock, yes it's okay if the units are leased, the train company can give them back to rust away and towed away for scrap, we are so wasteful in the 21st century.
This is Brexit Britain. We are literally pouring money down the drain. Not planning anything, or thinking long-term. It's all about just the next few years.....then the next few, and so on. We can't keep thinking in this way - it's breaking the country. Having new railway stock for just five or so years symbolises this short-term thinking perfectly. Indeed, what an absolute waste. Shocking.

Super video Mike, very interesting. So many trains lying around yards unused when service trains are often bursting at the seams. Just doesn't make sense. I blame this pathetic Government !
Some of the Merseyrail 777s have been sitting in sidings in Poland for over three years before moving to Long Marston. A tiny crumb of comfort to see the Long Marston depot being intensively used - but for all the wrong reasons of course. Looking forward to riding on the 701 units once they're more fully rolled out down here in SWR land. Thus far it's been a case of Arterio Sclerosis
Would love that to happen and for them to be a dedicated fleet to work alongside the Class 67s on the Marches runs. Appreciate that TFW have ordered new trains for that route, but in terms of capacity they are completely inadequate.
