Zuma is great for high-end resonances. It’s unforgiving. Mike Dean NS-10s are perfectly calibrated for low-mid balance.

It always depends on the song.
On the first song, the Slate sounds better to me.
On the second song the Pultec wins.
I have them. I’ll check it for myself. Thanks for the vid.

I actually might try it. I have a mix treated room with upgraded NS10’s and I’d be impressed if Slate VSX could do better…I’d probably sell my monitors

maaaan why i had my ear profile set to 1 for a while lol I have small ear canals so I'm wondering why my mix wasn't sounding right moved it to 2 and boooom mix power level jumped to 1000% lol silly me but VSX is definitely the way to go if you do not have the desired room for mixing or for a different perspective

Owned them since founders edition, and I have to say, I wasn't overly impressed with version 1 or 2 of the software, so I did'nt use them much.

It’s a mixed bag for sure! I have used them with great success and others not so much.

can't this just be done with some convolution reverb? Before I got VSX I was using the car and "small room" presets for the stock convolution reverb in Reason. After comparing with VSX, I feel like I could have gone without it.

Possibly. I just the convenience and speed of being able to check the mixes “on the fly” and quickly. For me, it really speeds up the work flow. Part of the flow is having flat headphones that change according to environment. 😊

Thanks a lot, I really wanted to know, but the cheap plasticy, or weak construction is a deal breaker. And the fact that many headphones are better than the headphones itself, HD 650 and many more, if only they were made much sturdier, would have bought straight away.

I know the new ones they just released are better with metal band and construction. The older ones definitely had a design flaw.

Have had the recent model for a few months now... there is nothing negative to say about their construction. On par with any other headphones I have that are well made.

My First set broke after a few months and i was so disappointed because i was giving crap to people who was complaining about them breaking... i took care of them and always took them off with both hands and blah blah and they still broke BUT! i contacted them and they sent me a new set made with metal instead of plastic. Still going strong!

💪🏻👍🏻🙏🏻 I have VSX and I‘m working my myself into it, but there‘s one thing I‘ll never understand: I often read that a mix that sounds good in my studio on my headphones can sound like shit in the car. Now if a change the mix in my Logic mixer so that it sounds good in the car it necessarily sounds different in my studio (perhaps not so good anymore) and vice verca. So, if I find out that the car mix doesn’t sound good I just switch to the VSX car icon and that fixes the problem for me? What will I really have to do that my studio mix sounds car-ready too? Choosing the VSX car icon and then trying to change my mix on my Logic mixer by changing EQs in the various bands (low, low mid, high mid, highs)? I don’t understand this as I‘m just a hobby musician.

The goal is to use the car (or any other) emulation to potentially spot particular elements of your mix that sound glaringly bad, and adjust accordingly (lows/low-mids for example in the SUV). Your mix should ideally sound "great" in whatever studio room you were mixing in as your "home base", and "balanced" in the others - use the other environments to get an overview and check that nothing sounds horribly off. Don't solely use the car and try to make it sound perfect in the car, as its purpose more to highlight problems. If you get your mix sounding fairly balanced in every room/environment you switch to, you know you are in a good place. If you're just starting out, it will definitely take a while to learn what you need to do to successfully achieve this balance by better understanding your tools, but I hope that helps :)
