Perry was indeed unbelievable but my favorite, and there were many that I liked, but Lou Gramm for me was one of the best. He had not only the technical ability, but he had an enormous amount of emotion in his delivery.
Steve Perry, Steve Walsh, Joey Gioeli(Hardline) is unbelievable! Lou Gramm, Joey Tempest, Joseph Williams, Bobby Kimball, Brad Delp... There are so many greats.
Played in a band with Ronnie for a couple years. The guy could sing anything….anything! He’s a nice as he is talented. Kansas found a gem! Love you buddy!
All great singers. I will add a few: Geddy Lee, Rik Emmett, Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Freddie Mercury. I think it is easy to forget the gold mine of great vocalists that the 70s and 80s produced.
Ronnie James Dio. He sang two songs on Kerry Livgren solo album "Seeds of Change" and he was magnificent on them. Best vocalist I ever heard in my life.
Those first two Kansas LPs were in constant rotation in my teen years, In addition to the first few Journey records. 🤘🏼 Sweet and Simple... ☺️ I get chills just thinking about that song.
I've seen Ronnie several times and they've been some of the best Kansas concerts I've seen. He's an incredibly talented singer. Love the new music that he has recorded with Kansas.
I love your podcast.I am 61 so we grew up during the same time periods and love all the same great bands of the 70's,80's and beyond.I would love it if you could interview Todd Rundgren. He had a hand in inventing the first automated video ever "time heals" on MTV.Also the apple computer and first voices for the cell phone, besides being a great singer and guitar player, plus so many other bands he produced and was in the 2nd varying Ringo and his all stars and was the leader of that tour. The man has done so many things with music.please interview him, again love your podcast and thank you so much.
Sorry, but I still think Steve Walsh, at his peak, was better than anyone else. Kansas' music was much more complex and challenging, overall, than Journey's and Walsh was much more diverse and did Kerry Livgren's great lyrics justice in a way no one else could. Just think of Lamplight Symphony.
That would be a miracle. I run Steve Walsh’s Fan Group on FB. I have a background in writing/editing/publishing for 30 years. I tried to get an interview. Found out Steve really disliked doing interviews, and no longer does them.
He notes Evolution… my favorite Journey album! Then he mentions Lay it Down… Ronnie is definitely a Journey fan! That is one of the best songs on Escape, Steve’s voice was unreal on that song.
Not Escape, but the Departure tour! The Summit in Houston Texas. Steve's wearing an all red outfit. There's an incredible version of the song "Patiently" with some vocal acrobatics at the end to rival anything Steve's ever done! Journey fans check it! Jus say'n.
Completely agree with Ronnie’s assessment of Steve Perry on “Lay it Down”, although I’m also a huge Steve Walsh and Kansas fan. Sometimes I wish we had a Time Machine we could get in to go back to see these bands at their prime but it’s very cool when singers like Ronnie are doing a stellar job at keeping the music alive.
God bless Ronnie Platt, Arnel Pineda, and last but certainly not least, Lawrence Gowan. Only a loser "fan" would take cheap shots at any of these guys. They're all essentially doing the impossible via their own significant talents. SALUTE! It's okay to love the original vocalist and I get that. But these guys are keeping the music I love VERY MUCH ALIVE.
So glad Ronnie joined Kansas. He can hit the notes that Steve Walsh could no longer hit, allowing the band to do songs that hadn't been done since(in some cases) the 70s
Geoff Tate of Queensryche is undoubtedly one of the best ever, although I'm not a male singer fan. I like chicks, Anne Wilson of Heart sings almost as good as Aretha.
Ronnie's singing in my humble opinion lacks the emotional interpretation that the greats like Walsh, Steve Perry, Steven Tyler, Lou Graham, Geoff Tate, Dio, and Elefante. I like Ronnie but i prefer the work of Walsh and Elefante.
Perry was indeed unbelievable but my favorite, and there were many that I liked, but Lou Gramm for me was one of the best. He had not only the technical ability, but he had an enormous amount of emotion in his delivery.
I agree with you about Lou Gramm. He took his voice to such a level few could match. He's my biggest vocal influence.
@@BirdYoumans definitely agree. Seen Lou in 81 as lead for Foreigner , Foreigner 4 album then years later as a solo. Amazing voice

Steve Walsh, Steve Perry, Paul Rodgers, Brad Delp, RJD...just off the top of my head.
None of 'em hold a candle to the Legendary Stardust Cowboy. Give Paralyzed a listen some time if you want to know what singing is really about.
All great singers. I will add a few: Geddy Lee, Rik Emmett, Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Freddie Mercury. I think it is easy to forget the gold mine of great vocalists that the 70s and 80s produced.
😂 Not a chance@@reidflemingworldstoughestm1394

I'm smiling because I had that LP and know the songs you speak of.
@@NVRAMboi Dio sang "Mask of the Great Deceiver" on Livgren's album and he was great!

Steve Walsh and steve Perry are both masters. No need to choose. Love them both - both great live.
I greatly admire them both - and several more. Better still, I've never felt the need to compare them.
Very cool interview….(I believe it was Rick Beato that did that vocal breakdown of Perry)
What can I say, Great UA-cam channel with awesome content!!!!!
Excellent -thanks John & Ronnie

Great interview, John! I think Ronnie is a fantastic singer. I hope more and more people discover the great music he's made with Kansas.
Ronnie's doing a great job in keeping KANSAS alive and performing LIVE. Nothing cooler than that.
John, I'd love for you to do an interview with former lead singer Steve Walsh of Kansas!!
That would be a miracle. I run Steve Walsh’s Fan Group on FB. I have a background in writing/editing/publishing for 30 years. I tried to get an interview. Found out Steve really disliked doing interviews, and no longer does them.

Paul Rogers is my #1
I totally agree with what he said about the voice as a singer myself he put it as good as anyone I have ever heard !!
How come I don't hear or read the name of Mark Farner more often!!!
Farner is as good as anyone. Such a great singer. My all time favorite.
Toto #🥇 band❤
Not Escape, but the Departure tour! The Summit in Houston Texas. Steve's wearing an all red outfit.

Jus say'n.
I'd give about a thousand bucks to wear that red "ringmaster's" shirt/coat over my jeans and look that cool. Not happening. g
Ronnie is a nice guy. I met him in Boise Idaho at a show and at the Airport in Salt Lake a few days later. He was very friendly.

Ronnie is truly a class act😊
I wish I got to be on the Toto and Journey concerts, but they don't come to Europe (Norway)😞😭 My two all time favorite bands❤

Definitely Brad Delp
Saw them a few months ago. Ronnie killed it!!!!
Love it!
Sebastian Bach says the same thing, learned to sing and warms up to Perry records.
So glad Ronnie joined Kansas. He can hit the notes that Steve Walsh could no longer hit, allowing the band to do songs that hadn't been done since(in some cases) the 70s
WLS, Larry Lujak, icon
Steve P and singer of Kansas ,Paul Rodgers r the BEST❤
Geoff Tate of Queensryche is undoubtedly one of the best ever, although I'm not a male singer fan. I like chicks, Anne Wilson of Heart sings almost as good as Aretha.
Ronnie is excellent.
Bobby Kimball on his day, hands down the most powerful male singer ever
Definately someone to model after steve just so flawlessly natural brad and steve walsh to
I played “House of The Rising Son” on the trombone in front of about 800 people.
My top is Phil Lynott best tone and delivery.
The cassette deck of Evolution 🤔
Steve Perry is the GOAT. No one comes close
Back in the day, Steve Perry wanted to team up with Lou Gramm.
I’d say Plant, Gramm
Greg lake was always the best
Don't forget John Farnham - one of the greatest voices
Ronnie's singing in my humble opinion lacks the emotional interpretation that the greats like Walsh, Steve Perry, Steven Tyler, Lou Graham, Geoff Tate, Dio, and Elefante. I like Ronnie but i prefer the work of Walsh and Elefante.
