    Why do people have to be so destructive? Why can't they just see the beauty in these places and leave the way they found it? Angers me.

      Ikr, it's so beautiful, and left alone, it would have overgrown with vines but would still be gorgeous. I never understood why some people just want to destroy. . .
      But at least what's left of this place is preserved on video now forever. I love explorative videos like this!

    Raymond Loewy designed the Coke bottle. His home is still occupied. He was a famous and remarkable industrial designer of many recognizable things, including trains, cars, airplanes, cigarette boxes, and on and on. LOVE your work! Raymond Lowey, I believe, is often credited with the design of the Coke bottle, but I think I read that he actually refined a previous design that remains to this day. An industrial designer, he was quite the renaissance man, and this house would have fit him to a tee; old photos show expensive suits and silk ascots! Also designed a famous airline logo, can't remember which one, as well as the gorgeous 1963 Studebaker Avanti, a car which was so far ahead of it's time for the period. A lot of retrofitting (dropped ceiling in the kitchen, new and cheap cabinets in that small kitchen that covered the arched alcove built into the old wall), such a shame that people back then couldn't recognize artistry when they saw it. Looked like a foundation by the outdoor kitchen area, wonder what was there? I love your stuff! Look forward to each episode. I really wonder which Coca-Cola man it actually was...

    • @debrasue5986
      @debrasue5986 5 років тому +7

      No, actually the bottle designs is one of the few things Lowey didn’t design for Coca Cola. The bottle was designed by the Root Glass Company. This mansion is called Rocky Edge and is in Indiana. This is the owner of Root Glass Company’s home. Chapman Root.

    • @hotrodpop1973
      @hotrodpop1973 5 років тому

      Thanks, Debra Sue, you're much more knowledgeable than I am obviously, so the Lowey Coke bottle thing is totally untrue, as I understood that he refined an existing design and sort of smoothed it out a bit? Seems the curves of the early 1900's bottle were much sharper and more exaggerated. Neither here nor there. Wonder why that beautiful house was ever left to rot...

    • @debrasue5986
      @debrasue5986 5 років тому

      Paul, I’m certainly not as knowledgeable as you on Raymond Lowey. The only reason I know about this home is because one of my sons did a paper on famous peoples homes in Indiana and this was one of them. I had no knowledge of Raymond Lowey until I read your comment. Thanks so much for sharing!! I looked into him a little bit after I read your comment. He was definitely an interesting and creative man! And you’re correct, in that he refined the original design. So essentially, both men designed the Coca Cola bottles 👍🏼😊

    • @oldenweery7510
      @oldenweery7510 5 років тому

      @@hotrodpop1973 Yes, just a few days ago, another UA-cam video attributed the invention of the Coke bottle to Raymond Loewy, but I just Googled it, and though several sites still attribute the bottle design to him, the site, "Coke and the Legacy of Raymond Loewy," says not. He _was_ part of the team that designed the larger bottles (the original contour bottle held only six or seven ounces). The site is fascinating: you see his design for everything from Coke coolers and dispensers to the special Coca-Cola delivery trucks. Debra Sue is right. Thanks Debra Sue!

      @hotrodpop1973 5 років тому

      @@debrasue5986, thanks for reassuring me that I hadn't been spreading false information for all these years! Lowey was indeed a fascinating individual. Any idea why the home has fallen into such disrepair? Definitely a shame, it must have been stunning in its heyday!

    Oh yes, another great video. I love how you pick sites that have a historical background and then you explain it further. This style is called "Arts and Crafts" (1880-early 1920s, starting in Great Britain, spreading to Japan in the 1920's) and a fine example despite the place being trashed (which is a shame). Another awesome job! Would love to rehab and save that place it must have been gorgeous in its hayday. Keep them coming.!!!!xox

    This place is in Allendale, Indiana and is called "Rocky Edge". A weekend retreat of Chapman Root whose company designed the original curved body coke bottle. Interesting that HE gets the credit (as usually happens) when in reality he didn't have much to do with the design. The man who actually sketched the bottle design and produced the first prototypes was named Earl Dean, a staff machinist at Root Glass. Wonder if he made enough money to build a mansion? Somehow I doubt it. Still, this place is way cool. According to records the Root family sold thi property in the 1960s. From what I can find it may have been sitting empty for only about a decade. Last year the owners were going through a divorce and a judge ordered it sold.

    A HUGE Thank you for sharing this Great explore of an iconic piece of history; The Rocky Edge Estate established in 1920 by Chapman J. Root, famous inventor of the green Coca-Cola bottle. This is an authentic piece of American history that I hope is preserved. The first Coca-Cola bottle, a world-famous trademark was created in 1915 at Root Glass Company, by Chapman J. Root, T. Clyde Edwards, Earl R. Dean, and Alexander Samuelson. Bottle design selected in a national competition.

    What a unique property. Would have loved to have seen it in its hey day.
    The pool area and the outdoor kitchen/entertainment area are the bomb.
    Wraparound balcony is really cool too. I didn't know bottle design could pay so well.

    Very cool, I liked what I saw.
    Back in the 1920''s, and 1930's, I probably would have had that small bedroom.
    Thanks for the tour.

    If I was a billionaire I so would buy that house strip down to it's skeleton and rebuild it. I would definitely modernize it a little but not much. Very cool find.

    Glad U brought this to our attention. Been reading a lot about it now... it's been thru so many changes. Worst part - it's an historic site, but doesn't have to be refurbished!??? Really sad

    "And that man - he made the Coca Cola Bottle, and probably did some things afterwards, and that's how he got this mansion - which he then abandoned."
    Glad to know that you did some serious research before giving this presentation and we aren't just watching some idiot with no knowledge of history or architecture guiding us through this tour.

    I try to picture this mansion how it looked back during the 1920 era. The elevator, outside walkaround balcony, the outdoor cooking grill and the pool had me sold. You can tell this was once a very nice looking pretty cool awesome mansion back then. I love the design and architectural style and layout.

    I love it. I just wish people would quit trashing places like that. At least explore it and let it have natural decay. Good video as usual!! Hope you and your wife, and pup are doing good. Life is slowly turning around. I wish you both well. Take care and keep exploring!!✌💖🙏

    Beautiful old home with some incredible features, but I didn't like the kitchen remodel. The cabinets are identical to my parents' home that was remodeled in the late '60's. I love the old refrigerator at 9:50! The outdoor kitchen was very cool! The swimming pool area was amazing! The whole house was amazing! I would really love to see photos of it when it was occupied. It's very sad that it's just sitting decaying and being destroyed. Considering it's historic significance, I wish it could be turned into a museum or some other type of attraction.
    Excellent find and as always excellent video presentation!

    if it's really form the 1920s it´s almos 100 years old!! the kitchen and most of the rooms seem to have more recent furniture (70s I think) but the pool and the green house are 1920s all the way!!! great video.

    Isn’t it sad that somebody worked hard and purchased the house they were proud of and now it’s in shambles. Gone as a person and you might as well say gone is the house. That’s life so much for leaving a mark on this world!
