In this episode, we explore the massive building of the Baker Hotel. Built in 1929 as a large spa destination for the mineral water in the area, it was extremely advanced with cold mineral water pumped into all 450 rooms. After the discovery of new medications in the 40's and 50's the popularity of mineral water's healing properties drastically declined thus causing the hotel to struggle to find guests. The building has been closed since 1972 and has endured a lot of decay.

Guys, I have watched a lot of your videos and I enjoy them a lot. I am 61 years old and my father, oldest brother, and his wife all have been exposed to asbestos. Asbestos takes a long time to begin destroying the lining in your lungs. That lining is the thing that transmits oxygen into your bloodstream. Asbestos encapsulates the tube like structures in the lining and blocks the oxygen from entering your bloodstream. The effect is you slowly suffocate and there is no cure. My father began experiencing the effects of it in 1995-96, As he aged it became more of a struggle to get O2 in. Luckily he had a massive heart attack and he passed before it became too bad. My sister in law has a partially atrophic lung which has about 30% capacity now. The fibers are very very small and you could have it flying all around you in these old buildings and not even realize it. I know the masks are bulky and hot at times but you need to seriously consider using them in some of these places. Stay safe.
Yikes true my friend. Condolences about your father and much strength to your sister she doesn't deserve that, all she did is wash her husband's work clothes.
Good idea, and thanks for your consideration for these guys
When your young and bulletproof and you think “that won’t happen to me”.... A couple of exposures, while not good for you wont necessarily lead to asbestosis or mesothelioma; the amount of exploring these two do, they really should wear charcoal filter masks, and I’ve commented saying that. But hey, it won’t happen to me, right?!
A+ and thanks for the warning.
This is fantastic advice from a very smart man.
My great great grandmother was a maid at the Baker Hotel in the 30s. I also own a chair that sat in the lobby during the hotel's prime!
Too bad you didn't post a picture of that chair...I love old furniture and things from old buildings.

"Sept 30,1905:

*Same as above.
Is your chair haunted?
Hope the chair is just chillin 😁
Cool!
Be really cool if you'd include pictures of how these places previously looked back in its prime
Jay Lew
Yes 👍
Don't take this the wrong way, but these fellas weren't around when the hotel was new and booming. So, the only likely source for them to find pictures of what it looked like in its prime might be.... the internet. Since you're posting comments on here, I'm going to go out on a limb, and assume that you have access to it. Use it. Try any search engine, see what you can find. No need to report back :) Anyone else wanting to see the results could do the exact same.

dear god, I don't want to be the dude paying for all of that water to be drained. there must be so much mold everywhere
Melanie G I was thinking the same thing. This place is to moldy and disgusting to fix it. The walls are too weak and nothing could be helped with this hotel. Unless the knock down this old hotel with a new one and say it’s the same thing.

UPDATE: THEY HAVE RESTORED SO MUCH ALREADY, AND YES THEY ARE REPLICATING THE ORIGINAL HOTEL. THEY TOOK OLD PLASTER, OLD MIRRORS REPLICATIONS.. SO YES IT IS GOING TO BE OPEN AGAIN.
I just went to look for old pictures of this place and saw they're doing a huge 3 year historical renovation project, due to open in 2026. I sincerely was hoping they would restore it to its former self and not make it all modernized and sterile-looking. Happy to hear that won't be the case!

It was recently bought and is going to be renovated soon, I hope they keep the 20s architecture.

@@wesgore8016 I bet this plan falls through. As most remodeling projects seem to be anyways.
This is true, I live in Mineral Wells and the reno has begun.
My grandfather was a bell hop here when he was 15! I am glad the renovation process has begun. I'd love to walk the same grounds as young Jack. Loved my papa.
Even after many decades of being abandoned, you can still see the beauty of this majestic hotel
Lucas, my thoughts exactly
The 'glitter' in the ceiling are iridescent iris flakes. It was added to spray-on applications of the original popcorn ceilings. This was popular in the 1950s to 1980, something different, helped to insulate noise and cover up cracks in the older ceilings.
I remember them in motels back in the early 80s
ARCHIEANGELinOH it’s fucking asbestos and shit! Run, run for your lives!
I have glitter popcorn ceilings in my home 😂
Typically popcorn ceilings don't have the glitter. The glitter generally only comes with asbestos.
I know in some old buildings it's glass flakes
For some reason I find the sound of people walking through abandoned buildings (things like glass and rocks being crunched under boots) one of the most satisfying sounds ever. This plus the amazing shots you guys get is just a gold mine of great content
SpeckOfDignity Me too, then I looked up "ASMR Walking On Gravel" to help me sleep when I can't sleep.😊

"It sounds like there are people around every corner" I am the night time janitor at a 100 year old movie palace and I know exactly what you mean.
Fellow janitor! Some of the places I clean aren't that old and they still sound that way, or they creak like they're about to collapse.
I know you guys probably don't get much appreciation for what you guy's do and it's real crazy to me that all the places we go to are kept the way they are because of you guys, thanks for all the hard work!
@@MultiTelan Creaking is a good thing! If an old building isn't creaking, it means the structure is fully saturated and any more weight could cause it to collapse.

So was curious about The signature of the man who painted the wall. A little research led me to the following information: Aubra M. Cooper was born in 1900(although his death info says 1902) and died in 1978. He was the husband of Velma Louise Clement Greer Cooper and father of Aubra Maurice Cooper Jr born 1928 died 1988. Mr Cooper married into a family of a long line of house painters thus his work painting the hotel even though the 1930 census states his occupation as bus driver/sanitorium. Just thought you might like to know some history of someone who touched those walls. Great explore
10:57 I tried finding out more myself, before I read your comment. You're much better at it than I am!
That was quite interesting information..Thank You!
Great work! I love to think of him writing that note....not knowing that all these years later there'd be such a thing as "The Internet" and a lot of strangers would be looking at his words and hearing all about him.
Painted on sept 11
This is so cool to see in the comments. Thanks!
Thank you for doing this. I'm 59, I've wanted to see inside this hotel all my life, I've been passing by it on one road trip or another all my life as I was born in Abilene and we had people in MW at one time. I'm so glad this popped up in my recommended and even though I know this has been up awhile I just discovered it and did want to leave a comment. Oh, and new subbie.

I'm always scared that these guys are going to fall through the floor in one of these buildings
They keep going it will happen, especially in old industrial plants.
Then the property owner will get sued by the parents.
i pray for their safety & health regularly ;-)
Who knows,it might be that or eventually the exposure to asbestos will get them.
@@chazzcoolidge2654 not to mention the mold piling up in these places. Moisture in an abandoned building eventually leads to black mold and nasty lung issues.
Me too. As a viewer I love the vids, as a mom of a boy, they make me nervous every time. Be careful guys. 😮
Touché gentlemen! I was in that hotel back in 70 or 71 with my dad. My strongest memory is there was a lot of old people, I was 9. But I do remember being fascinated with its decor. I grew up in south Florida. And the ceilings,, that popcorn coating had glitter in it, had a house in Miami with it. This one hit home guys. Sad to think we were able to create such beauty and just drop it for something new. But that’s America.
yettobseen According to people in the comments, it seems they want to touch up the place for using it again in the future.
I'm betting $100 they restore it to 1929 design and not 1972 so that popcorn glitter ceiling and shag carpeted elevators are outta therez
yettobseen facebook.com/thebakerhotel/
Not something new, unless you mean medical advancement. It's not like the Hilton chain or the Marriott built a competing resort and everyone started going there. People went there for the medicinal waters and probably family and friends went with them. That bubble popped and the hotel could not sustain.
That's not glitter, it's asbestos.
So refreshing not to have annoying music. And love how you have the echo of music past as you entered the lobby. Really enjoyed this vid. Thanks guys
What?

The distorted music played at the beginning is from Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
If I were a cop and recieved a call to go there and investigate I'd just eat donuts in the parking lot for 20 minutes and say it's clear.
hahaha...good ,,, made me laugh ...
Local officers in my area get called to an old abandoned church all the time. They HAVE to go in and search each time at gunpoint. So now by law people get cited if they don’t secure their properties because it’s a safety issue.
🤣🤣
Dr. Jellyfinger is that the only time you eat donuts 🍩 for 20 minutes ?
I thank you very kindly for your service to the community and your dedication to police transparency!
This amazing hotel is actually being almost completely rebuilt as you read this, they have a few floors gutted and have electricity and no windows as they are trying to preserve as much as the original building as they could. All of the motels are completely booked because of how many people they have working on the hotel and there is no sign of the owners wanting to quiet building anytime soon as they are both excited for this
I really hope C19 doesn't put a damper on things.. How lovely it will be to have it restored.

This place must have been a sight to behold in its heyday.
Been obsessed with this place since I was little! Snuck in a few times as well - never to the very top though, always got too sketched out. It’s so beautiful but it can be very terrifying
The ballroom at the top is the best part.
back in it's glory, a woman jumped from the ballroom on top to the pool below. she was drunk and died. there is also a story of a bellman being decapitated in the service elevator.
? oh yeah I know why that sounds familiar to me now this hotel was on Ghost Adventures.

Only problem was she jumped off the wrong side lol the pool is on the other side of the building

@Tom 2020 Hello Tom, yeah, Proper People are good. Did you see their Q &A the other day? Really good. I like vids like this, as long as they're quality! Abandoned World Explorer (from London) is quite good too. Hope you're keeping safe, wherever you are in sunny England! 😁🇬🇧
Yeah I hear that. I do believe in ghosts and have had experiences. But how is it that explorers on some channels seem to have crazy shit happen every single time, and others never have any ghostly experiences?
So pleased to hear this beautiful building is going to be renovated and used, I really hope they keep a lot of the original pieces of the hotel
You guys also missed the hidden liquor door in the Baker suite... the 7th floor housed the mistress to mr Baker.. the room with lavender tile
Imagine how beautiful this must have been in its glory days
Does anyone else find it to a bit Ironic that the birth of the hotel was about mineral water, an old health fad, and its obvious decay is by rainwater, which is the new health fad??
Cody Prine , umm hmm. Do you also notice people pushing alkalized water as a cure all?
Yup
Yes I noticed that too birth and death all about water
I noticed people pushing weed and essential oils as cure-alls
I was actually wondering about that. I was curious to know if the water was coming from the mineral water tap they installed or if the city just didn't notice a ton a surplus water being wasted. I didn't think it could be tons of rainwater since it's not raining. Interesting.
Aubra M Cooper, the person who allegedly painted the walls September 11, 1957, lived in Palo Pinto County. He would have been about 29 when he painted. He very well could have legit been the painter of those walls.
Actually he was born in 1902 so he would be 55ish. He died at age 76 in 1978
That may have been his father you are referring to, because Aubra M Cooper that I found in my above post
was born in 1928.
It was written in 1967 not 1957
I love it when we get background info regarding the place being explored. THANKS so much.
Me too, Rhonda.
It's claimed to be haunted. A pregnant woman killed herself there when it was open and somebody died trying to jump into the pool. He missed.
What background info? These guys walked around and described what the camera was showing. At one point there was water running and the guy commented about "glitter on the ceiling". There are civil engineers who do urban exploring that provide WAY more background info.
The glitter on the ceiling was called Diamond Dust. This was usually blown upward (machine) after some type of drywall compound was sprayed on the ceiling. The compound covered imperfection on ceilings, like cracks or repairs. We did this kind of work in the 1960's. I believe Aubra C Cooper would have painted there in 1967 which seems most likely because the ceilings were painted before the compound was sprayed on.
HA HA GLITTER ON THE CEILING!!! sounds like the LOOOOOVE SHAAAAACK.
I swear! Baker Hotel reminds me so much of Disney's Hollywood Tower of Terror.
So happy to hear Mark Rawlings and his company have saved Baker Hotel to restore it to it's magnificence! He said in a recent interview he anticipates the hotel and spa to open in late 2024.💫

OmyGosh! It's the REAL Disney "Tower Of Terror! This is so tragic. Why are the letting such a beautiful piece of history deteriorate? Can you imagine this place in its prime?
"They" only need $63 million to get started on the renovation. Pony up.
When I was little I lived next to this place and thought it was normal. So when I saw these things saying it’s haunted..... I remembered these memories of mine. When I was in 1st grade when my mom would drive us back home from school we would pass the hotel. I remember seeing a little girl in a hotel window every day and would wave at her and she would wave at me. Then we moved out and the last time I had passed the building I made sure to wave one more time. But she wouldn’t wave back.....
So like I found out about this about..... 6 years ago, and was truly terrified.
When we are little, we can see things like that girl, as we age, our spirit receptors go away. Some lucky ones keep it.
That does sound like a horrifying experience
@Gaming Wizard I'm almost completely deaf and only have one arm left so My best friend always takes me with him everwhere since I'm a photographer :D *(abandoned hotels, hospital, factorys, schools and sometimes asylums)*
*(An explanation ^^^)*
We went to this abandoned mental asylum who was rumored to have been experimented on and as i previously said I'm almost completely deaf *(i can hear beeps and whistling sometimes)* and only have one Arm and i got lost? If that makes sense i didn't realize my best friend had turned a corner and i kept walking taking pictures so logically i got lost and somehow found myself in a ward that i think was for the older people like 50-80+ *(i hope this is all understandable! There were 3 wards from children-teenagers to adults and then older people)* and listen i have crippling anxiety problems and a tendency to get overwhelmed and experience panic attacks really fast, i couldn't breath or well stared hyperventilating and suddenly i feel someone tapping me on my shoulder! Me being deaf got the scare of my life so when i turn around there stands this slightly bigger older lady holding her hands up *(I'm 4'11 that's why i said bigger she seemed to be maybe 5'2 if i do remember correctly definitely a good bit taller than myself)* now I'm a paranoid person that does sometimes believe in paranormal activity but in that moment i didn't really think about i thought she was homeless because she did look a bit unkept and dirty but her clothes seemed relatively clean, she was wearing something that looked like maybe a turtle neck and jeans now it was almost fall but it was a warm day so i didn't question it as much as i maybe should have okay? We we're trying to communicate with hand gestured to both keep calm because homeless people regardless of how old they look can feel threatened and attack you and i gestured to my ears and was shaking my hands and you know what she does after a while of thinking i guess? she gestures to her throat and shakes her head now thinking back i have to kind of laugh because what the fuck do you do when you have a deaf and mute in mental asylum with one being on the brink of a panic attack? She knew because she started signing she knew sign language god was i remember being relieved like nothing because you don't meet a lot of people that know sign language but i guess considering she seemed to be mute it made sense that she knew how now it took a bit to explain because i only have my right hand and that meaning i sign slower now her sign language seemed to be rusty because some things i couldn't understand or she left words out i did understand that she was asking me what I was doing here and i told her my friend wad interested in bringing light into what happened *(He's a journalist)* and i was here to take photos of this tragic place, i alos told her i got lost and showed her a photo of my best friend i made on my camera and she decided to walk with me around till we found him so a bit later not much talk besides me sometimes photographing and sometimes saying that it looks beatiful given it's history *(i can talk but I've lost my confidence in my voice since i can't hear it)* and then she says she hears a young man which i hoped of course was best friend and we turn a corner and there he is! I was fucking relieved. But as i went to introduce my new friend i notice she's gone now listen i understood maybe sje got scared my friends 6'6 and heavily tattooed, i told him what happened and he at first didn't belive me because he kept saying he didn't hear anybody, no second pair of footsteps nothing now i thought he was just trying to prank me so i insisted we get something for her as a thank you *(blankets, essentials, water, and winter clothes)* he still thought i was crazy but i guess he just gave up and we went back and we literally searched for and hour and up for her but couldn't find anything *(i still believed she was homeless and thought she moved on or something)* while we searched my best friend found old files he took with him to look at later now we went home and all that, i was editing pictures he was going through articles and the files and he asked me if i could look at the pictures and try to save them and get them back to a good quality, he transferred them onto his computer, send me the pictures now i was editing them etc. And suddenly I'm looking directly at the sweet old lady that helped me i of course was excited i could show him who i saw maybe *(I'm sometimes really slow)* and i started telling him she's the women i saw and he just stops me and tells me that she's one of the victims of the experiments *(if i remember it correctly they wanted to know how much the human mind could take before breaking, it ranged from mental/physical torture to putting them on drugs and in scary situations)* that had died from said experience and i was shocked i definitely saw her! *(this all there was to it)*
Now thinking back it was weird that she was underdressed and seemed almost dirty but her clothes were clean and that she just vanished but while it's a bit creepy i also realized i never felt threatened or uneasy. i was startled of course when she scared me yes but otherwise i was completely calm since i met her which is weird for me since i am extremely anxious and skittish around strangers thinking back I'm just grateful for whatever the women was or is that she helped me because i could have seriously hurt myself. *(this was almost 1 and a half years ago i know it sounds like it's been 30 years since the encounter :D)*
*(i never really told that anyone besides my best friend who was there but seeing you're comment kind of just-i needed to let that out i was 17 at the time now i am 18)*
*(what i mean is i understand what you saw and i believe you)*
Shareef Naeem it was a i think before I moved to my recent house I was being haunted by her. I have 2 other paranormal activity encounters that weren’t very great
Josefine Bergmann WOW. I’m really happy you were lead to that spirit and not another. With the girl I saw, when we left and moved to another house, I think she followed me. Because when I was still little I had a few more encounters. I never saw her face but I always felt her presence. All of the encounters stopped when I turned 10 (3 years ago) so I’m thinking that when I wasn’t fully a kid anymore she didn’t like me much, and went to a new kid.

Be nice if the building could be restored, but realistically, the cost to repair plus add additional items to bring it to code as well as handicap accessibility would exceed many times the building's value. 😞
They are actually working on restoring it now
All the building needs is an old geezer with more money than God and wants something to do with his cash.
Na,we like decay.
dave1135 i heard they were talking about restoring it a while back but idk
Shit, there's an old Sears distribution center in my city that was built around the time of this building that they repurposed for apartments and shops. Never say never.
Why go through all the hassle of artistry in building construction, when you can throw up some concrete, steel and glass?Today's architecture is pure crap in comparison to the late 19th and early 20th century.
Back then they didn't have steel and glass, at least not of a quality to use in a multi-story building. That's why the Eiffel Tower is made of iron, and the Statue of Liberty has an iron core, and the Titanic was ripped open by an iceberg.
Because architectural taste changes over time
@@ellipticleek6035 also the cheaper the supplies the more things they can build.
True, but retrofitting this antiquated monstrosity is beyond costly. Needs to be demolished before someone sues the phuck out of the city.
After World War 2, you lost a lot of the craftsman and workers that would do this kind of work. Also after the war, you had machinery from the factories that were producing for the war effort were converted to produce materials that were mass produced. The returning war vets, the growing family due to the baby boom and more people going to college and moving into the work force, necessitated fast and cheap production of materials. Because of this "new era" after the war, with new technologies, optimistic of the future and space exploration, Modernism, as the name implied, was the moving away of the "old" classical architecture of the Victorian Era. In my opinion, the modernism era was the cheapest and crappiest type of construction since there was a lot of new and unproven construction technology. Streamlining, cleanliness, sleekness and efficiency was the new look over the cluttered look of Classicalist architecture.
That building is beautiful, it's such a shame it's ended up this way. I can imagine it would be such a luxurious place in its prime.

That bathroom at 11:34 is a time capsule!!
Hello and welcome to the Baker hotel. You may have noticed the many water features present throughout our hotel.
We also have an on call dead bell hop. We also have a special on dirty bed and you guessed it... all the sliced cheese you can eat
A building that old, you are in extreme danger going where there has been water leaking for years
That's my thought. They talk about demolition may be the building's fate. But its not done by man, its done by mother nature. Water is the most destructive force to a building. Once the building's envelope is breached, water will infiltrate and slowly eat away steel and concrete. For water, patience is a virtue.
Joe Chavez It also means black mold, especially in Texas.
Just looked online and $65million is being invested to restore the hotel and get it ready to reopen on 2022! So happy its not being left to crumble any longer! Just think how much less would need to be spent if it hadn't been trashed and vandalised!
I was scared until I saw the glitter ceiling
echo's of the shining
LOL
Cheyna Holmes 🤣
Bet this hotel was stunning in its day. That random kraft single cracked me up. Any more run in’s with the scrap metal junky on the rest of your exploration?
Bridgette B Loved it when they said it wasn't real cheese and you can see a bite mark, even the rats won't eat it.🤣
My mom is from Mineral Wells Texas and remembers this hotel ❤️ this place is historic. They are planning on fixing it up I’m glad you guys went to explore it 😊
Watched this and went to find old pictures of it in its heyday and found out that they're restoring it! It's a 3 year historical renovation project, and the return of the Baker hotel is due to happen in 2026! I can't even imagine to cost of such a project, considering the state of things in this video. What a wonderful, yet expensive endeavor.
The sheer amount of architectural salvage in there is unbelievable!!
Asbestos heaven. At least get yourselves fit-tested for an N-95 particulate respirator and wear a new one of those each time you film a new episode. The N-95 is a lot cheaper than the half-face or full-face respirators that use various types of chemical and particulate cartridges (P-100's for example), and they give you the adequate respiratory protection you need for asbestos or other particulates (metals, etc.).
J P N-95 isn’t gonna cut it. Don’t take any chances, get a half face respirator with P-100 cartridges. Why cheap out on a disposable mask when dealing with stuff as dangerous as asbestos and mold?
I've been inside there, about 4 years ago an old friend and I went. Pretty cool place, took FOREVER to explore it. Since then they have started renovations on the hotel as they are going to be modernizing it while keeping it like it was originally. It'll be great once it's complete .
I am SO GLAD to see they are saving this beautiful hotel! Even in bad shape, the decay and wasting away still couldnt take her beauty away!
3:35 LOL. You guys are funny. That's clearly a 1920s (or 1930s) printing press most likely used to print out fliers for the hotel. The Redington Counting Machine was that specific component only, and was used to count the number of times the printing press had cycled.
+MrCloudseeker
Have you been to the hotel before?
+MrCloudseeker
Retail shops you say? So they did try to convert the hotel into something else before it became abandoned?
+MrCloudseeker
Yeah, that's what a lot of people in the lower comments are saying. Apparently, most of the shops in town are abandoned, and there are no more job prospects. The town's nickname is "Mineral Hell". They're definitely closed up as of 2018. Anyways, thanks for the information. It's been a real pleasure chatting.
Thank you Captain Obvious...I too, thought it was a printing press....What did he call it...A calculator?
I wonder how people will identify rotary dial telephones they find in abandoned buildings, years from now.
I'm getting Tower of Terror/Twilight Zone vibes from this opening. Love it!
Qwerty 88 the sing that plays is pyramid which plays at the tower hotel
I feel like this hotel was featured on Ghost Adventures a few years back. SO much better watching you guys go through it though without seeing Zak Bagans constantly saying "bro...dude...BRO...what was that?!" Keep up the good work.
Zak is irritating. I can't believe how cool he seems to think he is. Not.
Omg fuck Dildo Baggins! I LOATHE that guy
@@loditx7706 Zack is easily the most irritatingly, annoying person...he loves himself..i mute him but that's not enough
That would be a great show without that ass hat. Now they just recycle their shit and call it “extra pulses”
@@ojsefg Zack is such a butt nuggit...how many times does he say BRO!!!...somebody flush Zack down that ghost toilet
The detail in these old buildings is amazing, I can almost look thru the damage of time and neglect and see what they were like in operation.
I love seeing old abandoned buildings of different time periods but I absolutely HATE people who vandalize something so beautiful.
the vandalism makes it prettier
@@auneakeffect why? Only a sick mind would think that
Me too! It killed me seeing all that water! That is heart wrenching to me because I know that building cant keep standing and it leaking like that. IF ONLY somebody could just fix the roof. There is just too much history there to tear it down or to let it fall
Well considering some buildings that have graffiti over graffiti this wasn't that bad especially there wasn't any graffiti on the first floor. You should see some of the old buildings Omar and James have gone into
@@Kekkeri59 It becomes part of the history of the building, though. I mean, I do agree that nobody should be smashing these old buildings to bits, but they're gonna do it anyway, and each time someone comes in there to do so they add their own paragraph in the history books of that site.
That stranger freaked me out 😂 guys please be safe and bring a weapon with you, nobody knows what could happen in such places
good way to get in even more trouble when the cops finally bust you trespassing; "oh, just making a UA-cam video, not trying to cause any trouble, huh? Then why are you armed?" In some states and in places like the UK, admitting that you are carrying a potentially lethal weapon like a knife for the purpose of defense is considered an admission of intent to commit murder. And in many states carrying a weapon in the commission of another crime is also illegal. And if they can't carry a gun or knife, they might as well just pick up a handy stick or brick off the floor as carry one with them. And maybe they do carry pepper spray already.
I was part of the very first (approved) Ghost hunting Expedition that was allowed to spend the night there, in the late 1990's. We only had power on the first 2 floors (where the caregiver stayed) and the other floors all the way up to the Rainbow room was without power. We used flashlights and equiptment to do our work. It was fascinating to say the least. My favorite of all the rooms (including the Baker Suite) was the Rainbow (ballroom)at the top. The entryway that you showed was in pretty good shape when we were there, they used to rent it out to Prom parties or Wedding receptions, so they kept it nicer, and that's where we posed for group pictures and stored our equiptment and had camera's going while we investigated the floors. And I can't be sure, but that small stairway that you took *may* have been the 'hidden' stairway from the Rainbow room to the Bakers Suite. It's where Bonnie & Clyde used to run to, when the police came by. It's reported that there was always a lookout person on that balcony looking down (over the front driveway area) to alert them to the arrival of the police. Then they'd go down that hidden stairway (which was on the opposite side of that room, about in the middle) and they'd get down the stairs and away from the police. And I saw where you filmed the coat-check desk area right outside the double panned window glass doors going into the Rainbow room...there was most definitely something (spirits) active in that area when I was there, and also a few on the dance floor. Other than those 2 places and the back hallway going to the Gym area, I didn't feel as though anything was there, or at least to me. Other people stated that they got sounds and orbs on film although I didn't in the places they did. It's a wonderful old building and was still active with energy even in the late 1990's, even though the building was starting to crumble and mold was everywhere it still was quite the experience to spend the night there in the dark investigating the old beautiful building. When we were there I also remember that there were still Doctors offices (complete with medical equiptment still inside) on a hallway or two. Also I remember seeing walk-in sauna machines as well as tables to lay on where they'd give the mineral enema's. Those room creeped me out, the energy or spirits that were present at the other areas strangely, didn't though.
@Cindy Lou: any chance you can upload those videos on UA-cam so we can check them out?
Cindy Lou a
Ahh, makes sense why someone sprayed "Bonnie & Clyde's" then at around 11:14
Whoever did was probably visiting because they were intrigued about that aspect of the hotel's past
Lol "gliter paint" no it's called popcorn ceiling paint and it's asbestos based
It was big in the 60s and 70s and it looks like the hotel received a renovation around then
Frost not everybody knows everything about ceiling paints of whatever. It’s not a big deal, so please call anybody names. It’s very unnecessary 🙄
@@fourearwolf3315 It's a big deal to the curious.
Thanks for that, very informative.
from the hotels website- Baker Hotel - A Treasure Reborn
The City of Mineral Wells, Texas - in conjunction with multiple partners and developers - is proud to present a new Baker Hotel Resort and Spa experience. As a tribute to its storied past as one of Texas' most famous historic hotels, The Baker Hotel is being resurrected and restored to resemble its former glory - complete with a beautifully-preserved hotel facility, a fully-renovated collection of 157 guest rooms, the revival of the hotel's famous natural spring spas, world-class business and convention facilities, over 11,000 sq. ft. of retail and shopping space, and so much more. Just an fyi thought I'd share after doing a online search.
So when is that supposed to happen
Cat Smith idk but I’m definitely gonna have to spend a couple nights there lol. I live about an hour from mineral wells
They’ve been saying that for years. We’ll see...
Hey M&B , FYI funding is secure on this beauty, scheduled re open date 2022, it is the restore eng. plans to keep it as original as possible , even furnishings :) Thanks for this wonderful tour,

"A counting machine"
It's a printing press with a counter on it. Lol
Yep.
David Martin thanks, i thought i was wrong thinking it was a printingpress😂
Lmao ikr how dumb can u be
Katie Eubanks you're a dick
all they did was read the label they’re young men who obviously weren’t around in those times and has other things to do like providing us videos on abandoned places to be doing specific research on a old machine
Whataburger Cup! Hate seeing such grand places in such bad shape. Enjoyed...Thanks
Went to Mineral Wells many times in my life, always wanted to know what it looked like in there, thank you for this. Great memories from Mineral Wells.
Amazing as always! But those encounters with others are so scary!
*Heard the sirens and worried if their were motion sensors.* That was a fire truck or an ambulance boys.
the proper people have zero street smarts lol
I went on a ghost walk of the place yesterday, and the woman claimed that there are motion sensors on every floor that send the activity to the local officers, but idk, I have doubt about that.
They were on their guards... They knew they weren't supposed to be there so it's normal to get worried.
My grandfather worked on construction crews that helped build this hotel. I’m so happy to hear it’s being restored. I’ve always hated seeing it sit empty whenever I visited mineral wells.
Getting some "RED RUM" vibes from this place and the intact hallways.
HAHAHHAHHAHHA...Same here...I was saying this would have been a better place for the "SHINNING"...But then the snow wouldn't have been there.
Hey guys that counting machine you saw was an old printing press. It was made around the time the hotel opened. I’m guessing they used it for printing menus and itinerary’s for the week. As always great explore. 👍🏻👍🏻
That was hilarious...
Yes it’s a printing press we had them when I worked in the printing trade in the 1970s .The small counter machine at the side was for counting copies of the paper being printed.
It's a dirty rotten shame that no one could take care of this beautiful place.
Use to live in Texas for about a year and drove by here often for work. I always wanted to check it out. It was one of the first hotel's with a pool and Bonnie and Clyde were said to stay there. Glad I finally get to see this! Thanks guys.
Another excellent video! Very well done, Bryan and Michael! Loved the thunder and the rain. What a fabulous, old hotel. Must have been really something in its hay-day... Can't wait to see more of your videos... Chuck
That ghostly saxophone sound was perfect for the theme of this

Pretty cool, that spiral staircase was amazing. Thanks for sharing this!
You guys have my nerves on edge with these abandoned buildings...keep safe and Thank U for the showings
The last Hotel I was Chief Engineer at before ending my carreer was Edmond Meany in Seattle Wa.
Build started in 1928, I just love this old old architecture and style. What a treat gentlemen, thank you.
Whoo let me tell ya. The things i found in the walls n guts of that place. :)
Ahhh good ol Baker hotel. My friends and I broke in there to explore a few years back. Creepy place. We didn’t get to stay long since there was a homeless man hanging out
I've been there in person as well while on a road trip, and the video doesn't do justice on how *MASSIVE* the Baker is compared to the rest of the town's structures, a must go see for you're self.
Guaranteed to put you in awe and amazement. The Baker isn't the ONLY main attraction from Mineral wells, but also there is a Haunted house just up the road next to the Baker. I think it was called: Mineral wells Hill house? And there is a gift shop nearby selling mineral water with varying amount of mineral's that's in the water.
I live about 30 minutes away from The Baker. Never went in it but know plenty of people that have went in it. Love watching yalls videos and glad and thankful yall did one on The Baker. They passed a bill a couple months ago with the city and state to restore it. They are currently in the process of cleaning it out and they recently used it as a haunted house. Projected to have it finished by 2021. We will see if they finish it and if they do I cant wait to see it finished! Thanks again for going there and posting the video!
When you said “fuzzy elevator” I thought you were referring to mold growth...super scary thought!!!
This place is so cool. Such a shame no one took care of it.
They are in the process of trying to restore the hotel and open it up again :)
newmanscott60 I have a tough time believing that.. why now if it’s been shut down for 46 years? And the millions upon millions of dollars it would cost to restore it. Not worth it anymore
I was just reading that they are being offered a low interest 30 million dollar loan to do it up. Apparently they have been having trouble finding investors so the local council is stepping in.
newmanscott60 yeah I saw that to but a lot of the locals in town have said they been saying stuff for decades without any action. All talk no action. But I sure hope they get it restored. It would be beautiful!
No income, no money for maintenance.
Even though it was abandoned it still looks beautiful!! Historic place thank you for the upload
I live 30 mins away from there! My brother, boyfriend and I went there and got in through a back window. It was so cool. I loved it! The tower top at the top was my favorite part.
