Henk Poort was the original Phantom in the Netherlands. I saw him as the Phantom in 1995 (yes, I’m old 🤣). 🙋♀️💕
for over 600 shows!
Floor and Henk first performed this together at the 2019 Beste Zangers Dutch TV show. Henk agreed to that , if he could join Nightwish in The Netherlands. Finally, after several postponements due to covid restrictions, they got it done last November. First time in 17 years for Nightwish, they thought they would never perform the song again after the Tarja and Marko version you watched from 2005, until Floor made a promise. Henk had always sung it traditionally before Beste Zangers, he added the distortion for Floor, she loved it. Btw , Henk just turned 67 in January, about 2 months after this performance.

the audience had no clue or idea that Henk was going to be there (Nightwish kept quiet) 1st time Nightwish had done Phantom sine the 2005 "End of an Era" show.....Floor held that E6 at the end for 12 seconds!!!
Henk had never sang distortion before he sang Sound of Silence for Floor during the Beste Zangers show in 2019. He had to get a voice coach to teach him. When they rehearsed for their duet on Phantom on the show he rehearsed it straight and surprised her with the distortion on the night. They have become good friends and they also did a remote duet of the Jekyll and Hyde song Dangerous Game during lockdown. Floor did about 10 solo shows in The Netherlands after Beste Zangers and Henk accompanied her for POTO and a couple of other songs. Henk made well over 1000 appearances as the Phantom.
Incidentally there was a thunder storm while they sang POTO on Beste Zangers and there was water dripping through the roof.
I love 'Uncle Henk'. On stage he has a voice that demands respect and off stage he's that chill uncle with the cool stories. He's Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite Phantom btw! I had to say it. Makes me proud as a Dutchie.
It should be easy to be proud as a Dutchie... you guys have so many fantastic singers it's ridiculous.
I was there. It was a nice surprise, when the first notes hit we knew Henk would be there, cause Troy wouldn't be able to sing this. Floor and Henk sang this on beste zangers in 2019, he agreed if he could sing this also with Nightwish. This was Floor honoring his request and Tuomas agreeing to it. Mind you, this was just a few short weeks after Floor's breast cancer surgery. It was awesome 🤘🏽

Sure hope Henk makes more future cameo appearances to sing with Nightwish. His voice is more than capable to sing some of the songs from within the Nightwish catalog. Nice reaction.. Cheers.

It was a surprise I sort of counted on because it was promised in Beste Zangers 2019.
I love Nightwish. She has such a powerful voice. I loved them way before K-pop. It’s just shows, I’m kind of old and have listen to a lot of different types of music.

I was there on November 27 2022 in Amsterdam.
When they did this song and Henk came the whole crowd exploded.
It is/was very special.
Floor and Henk both from The Netherlands and Floors second weekend after she is/was back from her surgery for breast cancer.
Her first weekend she had just heard that the cancer is/was gone and had her radiation therapy to start in February 2023.

@@chrissturkenboom6080 wow! Another person who likes lots of different genres of music. I respect that. People always look weird at me that I took a “turn” towards liking K-pop as well. But they have no idea what they are missing out on. Nightwish will always stay up there for me though. I’ve known them since a very long time when Tarja was the singer.

Well...Henk is a Dutch Phantom. This promise was made in Beste Zangers TV show , that he will sing this song with Floor and Nightwish, when they come to the Netherlands.
And this song was a surprise to the fans. Nightwish performed this song last time 17 years ago with Tarja, and now the circle is complete...
And that Crowd Roar, when Henk walked on stage, wearing Official "Nightwish Family" T-shirt, but that Floor's last note... it was insane 11 sec.

If you enjoyed Hank in this, it is nothing close to his performance of "Sound of Silence" in the 2019 Dutch TV show, Beste Zangers. I strongly recommend you give it a try. Floor does five or six covers on this show and it actually provided the kick start for her fledgling solo career - her first solo album is coming later this month.

I concur. If it is possible do the longer version, with the talking before and after the song. Beste Zangers 2019. It's on Dailymotion, with English subtitles.
This is very different to the earlier version you watched with Tarja the first singer. The bassist Marko played the Phantom and made him more demonic. Henk Poort in this version has actually played the Phantom in the musical which Floor saw when a young girl as he is now 69 years old.

I LOOOOVE that dramatic, long intro to the song, how she dragged the words was just... Ugh! Breathtaking! Then Henk enters the stage and everyone loses his 💩

Floor idolized Henk's "Phantom" as a young girl. Imagine having the chance to sing with your childish idol. Much more about all this on line.
If you haven't heard The Fontom of The Opera you should see it in the theatre. It's a fantastic musical. I've seen it many times and it's really good.... and you should also see the version where Nightwish's former lead singer Tarja sings the duet with Marko 🙂
On the show "beste zangers" (best singers) Henk did sing for Floor the Sound of Silence (disturbed version) and that was the 1st time he did a distortion to his voice.
Almost everything Nightwish does is epic 🙂
That was a great concert, I was standing right in front of Henk doing the metal horns.
The doors to the concert opened at 7 pm, we where standing at the gates at 3 pm. That was so worth it.
Floor also sang this song with Henk Poort on a show called Beste Zangers, which Floor won! You could check that out too if you haven’t yet! 😊

I remember I was at their concert in 2015 in Ukraine. I thought I would die out there. The music, the sound were so close to tear my ears off. The energy was blasting. My head was moving so fast so I could've rocked all night.

TBH Nightwish lucked out so much that Floor's previous band decided to call it quits, there's not many vocalists in metal that could handle their repertoire... Floor, Tarja, Simone, are definitely my 3 OGs of symphonic metal

I recommend this song from Nightwish quite a lot but the song is just soooo good! The song is called Slaying the Dreamer and the version I want you to check out is the one with Tarja from End of an Era.
