Hey everyone! This is a lens review of the 7Artisans 35mm f1.2 lens for Sony E Mount. I go over some of the flaws with this lens, show photo examples, and then even compare this lens to the Sigma 30mm f1.4. This lens is relatively cheap, and I really love what it produces. Hope you guys enjoy the review, I put a ton of work into this one and I hope it shows!

f1.2 i was Expecting some night photo sample!
Whoops lol
@@kyletaggart Yeah !😛
Thank you for this review! I think that this is a lens I’d use primarily for indoor use, and macro shots. It’s perfect for street photography.
Youre my favorite lens reviewer hands down 🙌. Just got into photography recently and got myself an A6400. Love from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Agreed! Love your transparency
Wow! Thank you! 📸🙌🏻
Sitting here in Sweden thinking the same thing! This channel is great in its simplicity.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the review! I used to have a Neewer 35mm 1.7. I sold it beginning of this year and miss it so very much! I got the Sigma 30mm for AF. It’s not as much fun as the Neewer MF though!
Thanks for this video review Kyle. I’m thinking about buying this lens. The flaring can add some vintage vibes. Might not be for everybody but I personally like manageable technical imperfections. :) I have a helios 44-3 and a takumar 55mm(radioactive lens lol) for my sony a6000. As a hobby photographer, manual lens helped me a lot understanding how focus works.
That being said, 7 artisans is a good bang for your buck.❤️
Following you since the channel had 5k subs ,love your content❤️
Wow! Thanks so much!!
Was waiting for the video🔥🔥🔥🙌
That’s good to hear! Hope you enjoyed it
@@kyletaggart yeaa,, did enjoyed 🔥✌️
recommended to this video! and ya.. one of the things youtube gets right! loved the video, and now a new sub!!!
Awesome! Also new vid out today or tomorrow. Keep an eye out 👀
Great photos Kyle. How do you like it compared to the Pergear? I'm still loving my Pergear 1.4 28mm. Lots of fun to use. However, I'm trying to find more time to devote to photography. I get so wrapped up in my design work that I forget to get out and shoot photos. Watching your channel for so long inspires me to shoot and start sharing photos with my subs. Great reviews as always Kyle.
I have a Pergear 25mm f1.8 and a 50mm by them. I will need to see which focal length I like to walk around with more! Thanks for stopping by as always Chris!
Thanks for the review. I would be nice to see a street photography / journalistic / travel live review with it.
Great review Kyle! I actually like the flaring of this lens?! I mean I would honestly buy this just for that effect because it looks super cool :)
Remember it depends on the sunlight, it’s not just happening at all times. ✌🏻
Do a Sony 50-210mm lens VS Sigma 70-200mm Please
While I enjoy watching reviews of manual lenses, I doubt that I’d ever buy one. I shoot mainly in Aperture priority and I like that I spend more time thinking about the composition of the shot rather than on focusing, etc.
Composition rather thsn sharpness. Ok, gotcha.
Nice review. I got this lens a few weeks ago and haven't had the chance to really get out for some real testing. Thank you.
Do I see on the sample photos the colours being a bit restraint, less vibrant than the 35mm 0.95 lens from the same company?
Thanks for your nice reviews!
The 35 0.95 is a better lens overall - if you’re seeing a diff in colors it could be the lens. However I didn’t compare directly.
What adapter did you use to mount the lens to the camera because it won’t natively just go on even if It's for e I tried, and it does not work it's an m-43 mount
Didn’t use an adapter, there is an E mount version.
Nice little lens. That size is really small and you can through it in your pocket and you are off to shooting.
when selecting an iso and tried to use exposure compensation i received a message "valid when set to iso auto". is there any way to program my camera to allow me to use thing setting in full manual and not on iso auto
You can be in full manual, and have auto ISO, but then use exposure compensation. But you can’t have both manual ISO and exposure compensation work at the same time.
That's a tiny lens! It's great to have budget options and make photography more accessible. Good review! 📸👍
Thanks man!
Hai, does that lens affect with stabilization of gimbal when we adjusting manual focus?
It may, any lens with an extending barrel can throw off the balance on a gimbal.
Thanks for your video. I bought the lens and quite enjoy it. I don't mind the softness at f1.2. I kind of enjoy the dreamy quality of it. I wish you had some better photography examples to feature in your video. Just sayin.
People say, it's not the best lens, with it's problem. But it has character and it's beautiful. I think it's better than a sharper one depending on the story you want to tell
we don't want the sharpest, we need a subjective view. Aiming for sharpness is like aiming for a frisbee that shoots straight. If you expect a straight traject you'll miss, but when you understand the distortion, you'll know where it will aim precisely.
Kyle should I go for the 25mm?
Because it’s cheaper?
I haven’t tried the 25mm so I can’t say. If you want a little wider perspective go for it!
Quick question, do 7artisans and Neweer are the same company?
Possibly, not sure, I’d have to look into it.
Superb lens...but the ttartisan 35/f1.4 is mostly as good as this at half the price.. and then we had some great AF primes from fuji or canon around $200... makes it harder to buy this in 2020-2021.
If I record video without mic. Can the sony record sound? Like the phones have their own mic without any external?
Yes, the closer you are to the camera the better. On the front near the top, there are to “slits”, those are the internal camera mics.
@@kyletaggart thank you!
If you go back to my old vlogs, from like 2016, they were all using the internal camera mic.
Great review... I like your channel because you review cheap lenses... Not all can afford good (expensive) lenses to start (amateur like me)... 👍🏼
This lens, this crazy lens, is based on the Sonnar formula, hence the joy from using it.
🔥
Bahahaha yesssssssss I'm still using mine too! 💪💪💪💪💪 Sony a6000
Saammee
B&H are selling the A6000 for $398. What is going on? Is the A6000 going to discontinued?
this might be it! not sure. My guess is sometime in 2021.
@@kyletaggart in my country the price went up, from 500€ to 600€.
Can't believe you haven't done any night photography with it! 🤦
I don't know why but I love manual lenses
Have you seen their new toy lens? It's so small. I think there's an e-mount version.
I have not! Link me!
@@kyletaggart I saw it on their instagram :)
$119! Wow that's a great price
Very nice price for a fast manual lens.
9:29 someone got hit in Minecraft
Image examples were mostly meh. They failed to make a compelling case for this lens. Sorry.
Really like your videos, but I am pretty sure that an APSC lens on an APSC camera does not have a crop factor. So an APSC 35mm lens is 35mm on a Sony a6XXX. The only time the crop factor is a ... factor is when you have a full frame lens on a camera that has a "crop" sensor.
sounds like a solid lens.. it is ugly though lol
Horrible lens friend do better video more interesting that is a joke lens no for video negative lens.
Huh?
Let’s comment when we have something positive to say. Please Orlando?
