- Recently, the Silent Hill Transmission premiered, along with the State of Play. Both respectively have a section that revealed new gameplay for Silent Hill 2 Remake. Which I’ll be discussing and analyzing in this video.

you got one thing wrong in this video.
The bodie that is on the street with the matches and the note is not the same as the one holding the key, its the very same body that is close to appartments with a lot of notes scattered around (in here is the same message in a single note), in the original it was the message of "run, this place is not what it seems, monsters are atracted to light blabla"
about the new places in brookheaven hospital
bloober team and konami already said that the core game is INTACT, so everything that was in the original is still here, but they expanded the places and they expanded the town to have more areas.
Laura in the hospital entrance is an omage to the trailer shown for silent hill 2 (the original) in which there was the very same scene that was cut from the released game
About maria and laura in the same room, this game still follows the same base, laura will never see or hear maria... maria is part of james personal hell, it does not exists for laura (maria is a monster turned into a "human" to torture james psyche, laura is innocent, so she does not see monster or danger at all), this is the very same reason why even when maria says "we are not gonna hurt you" she does not stop (which she would do if she hears mary's voice), notice how maria speaks but it's not in the frame until laura leaves the area (maria is under the floor that laura is, they are not able to see each other, so james wont notice that laura does not see her nor hear maria)
About the weapon change on the fly without going into menu that is NOT a new mechanic... on the pc version you can swap weapons with a button.
Was very sceptical about remake, but the gameplay sold it for me. The atmosphere and environments are spot on. Scenes with Laura were fantastic.

James rolls his eyes when Laura says she has to get somewhere for something(letter) , and then the looks back with eyes quickly thinking about it. For me, its always a great detail

Just a little note, the boat section most likely still has gameplay, I think they just recreated the small cutscene before it where he rows the boat for a bit.
James's habit of putting his hands in dirty places. It seems that in the remake, he will do it frequently.
He takes something stained with fluids from a decomposed corpse and then a bloody note. The worst thing is that it is not washed after such filth.
I have been defending Bloober team and this remake for 2 years, now all of a sudden people act like they were all about it. The comments have beeen nothing but negative till yesterday.

I'm still on the fence, there's a lot of new stuff and I haven't experienced it yet to have a thought. I will say it doesn't look as bad as i first thought but if they try to twist the story in a new way I'll have something more to say depends on how they do it.

I am an impossible-to-please diehard fan of the original, who still does not think SH2 needed a remake at all.
That being said, the decision by Bloober to not only keep Laura's "fartface" insult, but to use it THREE times? What absolute madlads! I love it!
Definitely something a real kid would do. Once they get a new word in their insult vocabulary, good luck making them stop using it without a slap.
So, Bloober updated James’ face, and, thank god, they removed the button qte prompts. I think those changes have me fairly confident that Bloober will also update Angela’s face. It really doesn’t irk me as much as everyone else, but she could use more personality in her face. If we have an option to turn off the red “jelly” damage borders on the screen, then that’s the only other thing i see wrong. Totally set if those two things get addressed.
I’ve been trying to defending remake game even the game happen been works for year takes like 2 years 3 years or year 4 dead space remake was best it’s still remained original that had the change,small things can’t explain the whole thing as for the other project silent hill remake they might have to find studios to work other silent hill remake project probably like 2 studios to work on it

Nope blocking was a thing in the original. It just looked like James was crouching.
Blocking was in Silent Hill 2. You had to hold run button and walk back when monster tries to melee attack you.

It kind of does, the environment is perfect but the characters are.. Maria looks so small in width, like her head is bigger than her torso, or as big as her torso. Angela looks like a model from ascension. To be honest they should make the shoulders broader, they look so fake, like?

6:22 The pipe has two attacks- Well, three, if you're playing on hard combat: The downward swing, the pokey poke, and the frantic sideways smackdown (hard only).
In the remake, we only see the frantic sideways smackdown, alongside a wimpy ground attack. And it appears that melee attacks can be performed even if a gun is equipped. James will awkwardly teleport the melee weapon into his hands and perform an attack.
7:03 Too bad we didn't get to see James' interaction with Maria on this part (She probably went sleepy bye too soon due to fatigue). It's one of the funniest moments in the original. This part also shows a significant increase in detail compared to the original; James actually looks like he's holding the needle, rather than it floating between his fingers.
11:16 What sticks out to me is the ghosting artifacts in the floating leaves throughout the trailer. It is most likely the result of a temporal upsampling algorithm that does not account for the vector information of those leaves. Perhaps it's FSR 2. There also appear to be ray traced reflections in the water puddles as well as Angela's knife.
Why does James Sunderland look Polish all of a sudden? What's with the slavic wide face on Angela? I liked when she was gaunt and looked insane and skinny.

James looks fine, but I agree Angela looks terrible, she's sopussed to look skinny and suicidal(dark eye bags, etc) now she looks overweight and her face is square shaped. also Maria looks too innocent, she's sopossed to look seductive, decitful, and sexy, her eyes are bigger, her eyebrows are rounder and, overall her face is just less angular, also her voice is supposed to be mysterious and untrustworthy.
What was wrong with the first encounter? Why did they change the spot into a house? Why cant they follow the original's fundamental elements in remakes. I am afraid it can turn out to be like re 3 remake...

Have you noticed about the Otherworld's design? Unlike the original, this one looks more bloody, rusty and with metal fences in the floors, similar to the OW in SH1 and 3...
In the original version, the OW's hospital looks green, like moldy, and covered in dirty cloth and plastic sheets, there's not too much rust or metal fences

I really hope they didn't scrap "a world of madness" song at the start when you go to bar neelys it didnt play in the ganeplay demo and I'm concerned as it's one of my favorite songs.
Also I was watching nub and he noted a lot of differences and one of the ones that annoys me is how much James yaps and how aggressive towards Laura he is. I really hope bloober didn't take too many "artistic choices" because the original is literally perfectly written

Yeah please be excited, you should just be happy you get anything! This is why we get dumbed down games for the lowest common denominator, and this awful remaster/remake craze is just letting corporations get lazy instead of being forced to be creative and consumers whine when they enable them.
For the boat sequence, I wonder if that cutscene in the remake leads into gameplay where you have to row like the OG, trying to get the best time, etc.
The combat reminds me a lot like Silent Hill Homecoming. It is faithful to the original SH2. Such a shame that the item management isn't in the remake. Lets hope that it'll be a good remake. Also hope that the puzzles in this game, will deliver a good challenge to the players. Also to adjust the difficulty of puzzles, like we did in the original.
This looks nothing like homecoming. Homecoming had combos and different inputs.
This looks like a simple 1 hit attack. No combos no crazy moves, just like SH should be
Marias walk animation is a joke. I like how this game looks better and better with each showing, but animations are still lacking BIG TIME!

If we put this remake aside, I've met some of the most insufferable people known as Silent Hill fans. I'd put them same as New Vegas fans. I love the games but it bolsters a cockamamie fambase.
In the new trailer, there is a scene right before the Mandarin appears, where you can see a spider-like monster crawling on one of the walls. I don’t recall any monsters in the original SH2 game that could do that. Is there any chance this is a new ability of the Mannequin monster?
The alleys in the intro plus the house seems to be a soft-reboot of SH1. Since this remake sorta skips SH1, they seem to be taking some inspiration from SH1 aswell. I'm not saying they'll take more than that, but it was a clever thing to combine both since this surpasses SH1 in many ways.

Environments looks AMAZING, but characters and animations look AWFUL and cheap
I really wouldn't say they look awful, just compared to RE they are not in the same league, but overall they are good enough to the point where I don't think it will bother me after playing the game for an hour or so.

I’m not a big fan of Maria’s new design 😭
Its probably going to be a hot take for me to say this but I like everyones redesign.
I really like Angela's big neck piece of the turtle neck. She seems more soft and fragile compared to her ps2 model. She also seems a little more heavyer than her ps2 model which I prefer with the trauma she went through it makes more sense for her it also matches with the whole body dismorphia that most of the characters have in silent hill 2.
James looks fine I like that they changed the hair to be more faithfull.
Laura looks good no complaints.
I dont really like maria's leather jacket. So many charecters have this bad girl leather jacket design in games now, it looks more out of resident evil but hey at least they let her keep the skirt.

She was pretty skinny in the original, but not anorexic. But a little weight on her doesn't seem like a problem to me that's all I'm saying. I just like that the white sweater stands more out now.
A character with anorexia does seem like a good protagonist or side character in a silent hill game though.

really hoping that leak about the SH series ports to steam are true now, cause this looks terrible. Homecoming combat, no facial expressions, different scripts, cinematic boss fights when they were already perfect, also no item obtained sound and constantly observing everything you pick up before you actually obtain it. Not to mention the monetization

Hopefully there are more puzzles than the same ones repeated. If they were going to update only either combat or puzzles I am not sure why they'd update the combat first, especially because James isn't combat savvy but a regular person and the game is supposed to be survival horror not CoD: Silent Hill. However, I guess even if they did add new puzzles we would not recognized them and showing them too much might spoil them, so there is still a chance they'll deliver on that front.
I sure hope they dont add any puzzles, because bloober camt make them for shit

I think it looks great. The visuals are nicely stylised, the gore is disgusting, the fog is actually fog (anyone who remembers the hideous trainwreck of the HD collection knows what I mean), the creatures are creepy. James was never the best at combat, he was just some guy, so the complaints I've seen whining that he isn't Joel Miller make absolutely no sense. Nobody is taking the original away from you. Appreciate this on its own merits.

I actually like Angela's new model more than the original 👍🏻 and I also thought it was a neat touch how there seems to be a sunset outside while you're exploring Brookhaven Hospital. Edit: the only thing I'm still worried about is that they might scrap, or seriously change Heavens Night to appease to the sensibilities of the modern audience.

I just gotta say this whole trying to be realistic concept is drastically backfiring & ruining games. They are better off going an unrealistic artistic route. The realism can destroy any character or soul to a game. It looks off putting & unappealing. I miss older game designs SO MUCH all of that didn't have to just go away just because things are "progressing" It sure doesn't feel like progress.
For Silent Hill,
It's a bad sign this kind of character design got Approved. Solely from a creative quality standpoint. How did they think customers were going to react to that? If they are ok with this, where else did poor artistic choices & game design get thru? How can gaming be so out of touch with good artistic direction? Also the movement is very limited and stiff. It seems like James is floating across the ground, not reacting to his surroundings, moving very bland and robotic and plain.
The voice acting, perspectives, cut scenes, vibe, framing of the location and characters don't seem in touch with the core of what silent hill is..
I know I was critical but I'll still support this game. I just hope they see and realize these things that seem off.

James had clunky combat in the original. Granted, that was in parts due to hardware, but he's also not trained in combat, he's just a man. I don't see what everyone is so upset about with the combat, it's fluid enough for new-gen while maintaining the feel of the original.
I also don't understand your complaint about its attempt to be realistic looking. That was also the intended look of the originals. The hardware was simply not there enough to give us more than what we got.

@@purplebruh947 It was also partly due to hardware limitations. Resident Evil had similar-ish controls. They're still embracing it. James fights like he's not experienced in combat, & it's a little slow. I genuinely feel they respected this, while keeping it up to date with the hardware.

Really disappointed that they changed Maria’s outfit.
Maria is wearing a black mini-dress that shows off both her cleavage and her legs and the red leather jacker only covers her arms which were not shown either in the original.
