Yep and it almost never got finished. Aerosmith had the music, but no lyrics. All the other songs on the album were finished. So they took a walk around NYC trying to find some inspiration. Ended up going into a movie theater playing "young frankenstein". After watching the movie the head back to the studio. The engineer starts goofing around and does the "walk this way" line from the movie. After goofing around for a bit Steven Tyler says he has it. Runs off and writes the lyrics. The rest is history, but imagine if they hadn't walked into that theater.

I felt you way too hard on being a fan of rock and rap. My first cassette was a mix of rap singles, with the first song being Basketball by Kurtis Blow. In kindergarten there was a lady named Tiffany who was the defintion of 80's... she wore a jean jacket, had the bangs parted in the middle, smoked marlboro reds, and also played Bon Jovi for me and my friend Danny on the playground. Growing up it was a weird time, especially in high school when I had music by punk bands, hardcore bands, rock bands, metal bands, rap groups on top of being raised on a healthy diet of Motown and the Oldies. Confusing times for sure but I'm glad music has collectively matured to look past all the BS genres and labels. Now when people ask me "what type of music" I listen to, I reply with: anything that has heart, soul and balls.

Depends on your age. Some of us know the music like the back of our hands, and to this guy it's apparently new. So, that's a curiosity to see his reaction. But at the same time, it's regretful that new listeners to Walk This Way, don't have all of the cultural landscape to connect the points to. Once while reading the lyrics of this song, in Run DMC's version. I noticed that some words were changed, no doubt the old words were too politically incorrect.

I listened to Bon Jovi, Naughty By Nature, Guns N' Roses, Public Enemy, Metallica, N.W.A., Pantera... all while ingesting heroic doses of Oldies and Motown that my mom loved to listen to when I was growing up. I'm glad we all became more accepting of what made us different versus what kept us apart... at least musically. Other parts of our culture unfortunately still have a ways to go before it catches up.

It raised everyone’s profile, Aerosmith needed it after what they had gone through, and it introduced hip hop to a mainstream audience, effectively it helped bring down the barriers between black and white music which as you can see they were trying to do in the video, pretty cool, still probably one of the best crossovers and music videos of all time

There’s nothing else in the world that can bring people together like music! No matter the age, sex, race or region you live in the world music can bridge all gaps and bring people together.
Music can also become a time machine. You hear a song from your youth and there you are; a kid again.
There are songs that brought us through tough times and songs that we played in celebration that if we play right now will take us right back to that time and that feeling we had when we heard it.
I really enjoy watching you young folks hear the music we grew up on for the first time. You have the same reactions we had when these songs were first released on the radio.
