I used bacon grease & water vs broth & add some American Cheese 🥰 Love me some grits & eggs on top, born & raised in New Orleans 💜💛💚

I was skeptical, but you did a good job. I make my grits with milk/cream and sugar. My mom was from North Carolina, and that was her southern way.

I grew up in Mississippi and was surprised when I heard about people putting sugar in grits. I was taught they were supposed to be buttery and salty

Hmm, believe it or not I have a big bag of grits in my cupboard that I have had for a good 10 years. I wonder if they are still good? I might have to find out tomorrow! This looks good!

(Edit: Grits are dried ground corn.) If you live here in the Western U.S. you may look for polenta. If you live outside of the U.S. polenta may also be easier to find. Polenta is widely used in Mexican and Italian cuisine and while technically not the same polenta cooks up and tastes very similar to grits. Both are milled from different varieties of corn and I think polenta is milled just a bit coarser. Originally being from the South, I still prefer grits so I order my grits from a mill in South Carolina. Also, for this recipe I don't think 'quick grits' will work.

I’m 52 yrs old & my siblings & I would go to our G-mom’s (RIP🙏🏽) house every wknd, holiday & summer, like clock work. We lived & went to school in burbs & gmom’s was in da hood. I woke up every morning to Grits like this w/ bacon, sausages, salt pork, pork roll or scrapple. I don’t know any other way to make them. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Can you do this with polenta instead of grits?

Do you have to add the cream or can you just use extra stock/water? Thanks

"These grits are so good I can eat them by themselves" ...so basically the bar for good food for you is that it's edible? I'm just giving you a hard time, these look amazing and I know what I'm going to try making for breakfast tomorrow!

Yes I am one of the minority here in the south that prefers the grits sweet. Butter, & honey. If honey is not available, sugar will do.

It looked like beef stock so I'm glad they said it's chicken because I was about to use beef but I thought that would be too stout
