i know right im so god damn angry about them vaulting story, Gw2 updated a ton of regions into completely new areas but you can still timewalk into the story for those regions, they do this really cool like sepia effect on the screen like youve travelled through time. why cant we do some fucking paracausal bullshit and relive old moments.
for new players who don't know what Red War is: it was the campaign in vanilla Destiny 2 that Bungie removed from the game even though it was content that people paid money for.
I actually think grinding public events is a great way to get started, once you get to that point. You'll be farming tons of glimmer to unlock those subclasses, you can familiarize yourself with the different planets and enemy factions, you get to take your gear out for a spin and start thinking about what kind of playstyle you like, you passively earn new weapons and armor (maybe even get some exotics to drop), and you get to meet new players, all in a super easy and low stakes environment. I think it's like the perfect thing to do as a new player if you just have no idea what to do.
Honestly I'd say the best thing to do is just copy a build for whatever exotic armor piece you might have. That will give you an idea of how things synergize, and once you get a feel for it you can start experimenting on your own. At least, that's what worked for me when I started playing.
Yeah they need to always update it. I am looking forward to see new aspects and even fragments for light subclasses and also prismatic in the future. They need to add a handelinhdg stat for abilities cause they are sluggish sometimes (could be tied to mobility) They also need update their engine and I think D2 will be a very nice game and maybe we can see D3
For those trying it for the first time, don't burn yourself out in this game. Play a little, take a break etc. I'd have met some awesome people while playing this game. You'll have a lot of great experiences in the long run.
My biggest advice is find a clan that is willing to help and guide new players and make friends in game. But don’t be afraid to hop around until you find the right group of people. There’s a lot of jerks out there but there’s also a lot of great people who love helping new players.
This is gold. I played during forsaken for a year and a half, but never did end game content (even in d1). Come back in november, i found a clan that helped me A LOT. Never did a raid or a dungeon or a gm, now i know a lot of things. To all the veteran out there: be kind and spend time explaining even the obvious things to blueberries, and they will be as good as you are.
I had someine on my very first day playing the other day (week?), help me climb up from one the cliffs. Literally would go down to me, climb to show me. And when I struggled, climbed back down. I finally got it and I wanna feel like I made them proud. Or annoyed. Anyway I hope they know I'm super grateful lol

For new players you’ll also hear a lot of jargon from the community so here’s some of the common ones: Blueberry- player not in your fireteam or a random player. Also commonly derogatory for new or bad player Wipe- everyone commit suicide to restart the encounter Wipe for damage- wiping the team specifically to see the amount of damage each player has done. Often said as a joke right before a boss is killed Gm- grandmaster. The hardest difficulty of the nightfall activity New light- new player Flawless- completing an activity without dying God roll- the best roll of an item. I've got a few tips: The number one thing I can suggest, as someone who has experienced burnout, is that it's fine not to play. Take breaks, take your time, and enjoy the game. Another tip I have is to use what you like. In a lot of cases, the difference between different weapons or even whole builds are minor when you look at the actual results. But it's all about what YOU want to use. I have spent hours just buildcrafting and testing just to see what works and what I like. It is one of the most fun parts of the game. Unless your using a glaive. My next tip would be to learn from other players. If you see a fellow guardian, whether they be a content creator or random, you met on a strike, and they are using a build.or gun you think is cool, by all means try it out. There is nothing wrong with copying other players, as long as you are having fun. Last tip, play with others. Most of the endgame content in this game can't be done solo. Most of the content in the game overall is easier and more fun when done with others. So whether it be through LFG discord servers or your own friends, enjoy the game with others. Real last tip: don't use glaives
Yea the burnout is real. I'm a day1 player and I took an entire year off. I missed seasons 21, 22, 23... and I admit it was overwhelming getting back into it last week. But im still getting the hang of the new systems.

One thing I wish I could've told myself starting out is don't rush and just enjoy things as you get them, it used to be so fun getting new exotics and seeing what they do
For new players looking to raid: watch a walkthrough video on the raid you want to do before trying to join any groups. You don’t need to know everything right away but it really helps to have at least some idea of encounter mechanics. (Edit) Just make sure you're honest with the group if you aren't understanding something, don't pretend that you know what you're doing if you don't.
a more important tip is BE CLEAR you don't know what your doing wipe us 4 times acting like you know what your doing? im kicking you. say u need help or a catchup or you don't know how to do it il teach you.

@@subzero308 Keep in mind this advice is directed at new players, and is mainly in the interest of not wasting 5 other people's time with "missed the mechanic" wipes (especially on old raids) and the replacement finding periods when people get fed up and leave, as well as not wasting your own time as a solo newbie posting a "LF5M completely blind run, need teacher" in raid LFGs to find a group in the first place. Also, I fail to understand how learning the gist of encounter mechanics before trying them for the first time "defeats the purpose of raiding". IMHO, the primary purpose of raiding has always been the rewards you get for doing so, and later on, completing the triumphs/seals. Sure the ideal experience for some could be for the whole team to go into it blind and figure it out together, but outside of day 1's, you're unlikely to even be able to form such a team in the first place. But to say that's the purpose of raiding also means to say that there's no reason to do any raiding after a day 1 clear, which is blatantly untrue. TL;DR: the main reason people do raids is for the loot and titles, and you can go in blind all you want, but be prepared to waste a lot of your own and other people's time in the process
My friend has dabbled in destiny but only recently decided to get into it and he had some questions about what perks are good for weapons, I simply told him not to worry about that until he got into it more and unlocked better stuff to hopefully make it less stressful for him
Yeah until you learn some build crafting or what a good amount of perks do and how they can cater to what you want, new players shouldnt worry about it. Just check out what you get on your drops and see what sounds interesting
For new players wanting to try Destiny, you’ll have so much content and things to do in the start. I envy that a bit. My biggest piece of advice is to READ (what perks do, subclass verbs, etc) find people you vibe with and enjoy the ride.
Guide needs a part 2 that breaks the basics down even more. I've had multiple people try the game and can't find where quests are, major hubs, and you legitimately can't do much without the DLCs. Yes, the game hands out 1810 now, but with how hands off the new light experience is, people don't know what to do afterwards, where to look for things, where to farm. This helps for sure, but needs more depth. New players are usually so overwhelmed by pointless quests or the sheer amount of things to catch up on, they just go through the campaigns or do bounties in my experience.

I still consider myself a new light since I started the game since Witch Queen, mind you I got overwhelmed and burned out in a matter of weeks then took a hiatus for a year, I came back after lightfall and slowly immerse myself into the game, learn about the weapons, gear and classes, I started off with a warlock then I switched to Hunter it become my main class since, it fits my play style. Recently I watched all the build guides and it made my destiny experience better, I played with random players and joined a clan who are extremely helpful and patient. My advice from one new light to another, don't rush, learn about which class fits your play style or which class along with the builds suits it to make your experience better, and find a clan that is willing to help new lights.
Big tip: use what you like, there will always be a meta of what's best but unless you're doing pinnacle content (raids, grandmaster nightfall) you don't need a meta build. If you want to use a random 720 auto rifle because you like it, then use it. You do not have to be a sweatlord in every aspect of the game. Do not let people tell you what you can and cannot use. You can clear almost everything the game has to offer with any loadout you desire
Bro literally everything fun or even worth using is locked behind some raid or mission... U cant just play the game and have fun getting loot cause all the loot is locked behind something... The whole point of a looter shooter is to get loot from just playing the game... Sadly destiny lacks that.

Yeah, my GF is new light since 2 weeks, hasn’t paid a dime and is already enjoying some decent exotics…I mean, yeah a fair bit of loot is behind a paywall but there are 2 dungeons and 3 raids completely free, multiple strikes, couple nightfalls, legend lost sectors, a ton of world drops plus Onslaught now with a great loot pool….gf chose Voidwalker as her first subclass to learn, try telling her that Contraverse Hold and Graviton Lance aren’t fun? C’mon dude you’re exaggerating massively.
He should've also mentioned upgrading the ghost asap for the 50 meter treasure finder and xp gains. Those chests add glimmer faster than public events.

Swords for the Speedrunners, a beam rifle, and you can also get your hands on the Exotic Forerunner as a big ole pistol that would make the Chief proud.
As someone who just started about a MONTH AGO Don’t WORRY about crafting weapons or red borders, find some weapons you are comfortable with and focus on getting good Armor Set! Weapons always change Meta, but your Armor if you have a good enough one you can keep for ever
Also played about a month. Burned out playing 3 classes every day. Now I only play with 1 class. Have not done any grinding of shiny weapons yet. Using mainly sunshot and quicksilver for now.

Honest advice to make your experience more enjoyable, it’s okay to look up good build and good weapons but make sure you try everything yourself. Everyone has a different play style. Just find what you find fun, and play that. Weapons and builds aren’t really needed until late game. So just have fun and don’t rush through the game.
I watch tons of guide videos across many different games. This has got to be the best presentation I've seen and heard on a new player guide. Great audio, straight to the point and no filler or bullshit. Be proud of this one, because you fuckin killed it.

Best advice for new players is to just not really look at and built videos or worry about what's meta or not or anything like that. You only get to experience this game for the first time once, just play the game and enjoy the mystery and not knowing everything. Once you really wanna start moving into harder content like raids, then start looking up meta weapons/builds
I think one thing he kind of skipped over for new players but briefly addressed some of it in the “What DLC to Buy?” Section is there are two other available subclasses in the game. Stasis and Strand. These ARE locked behind paywall DLCs. But if a new player is wondering how to get them, the Beyond Light campaign and Lightfall campaigns are where to unlock these.
Have fun brother, its actually insane how much theyve improved all of the quality of life features in the game. Learning what D2 was at launch sounds like the damn dark ages 😂
@@xbon1 they’ve simplified a lot of the resources down to just more general currencies, in game saved loadouts, in game lfg, added descriptions, added markers in the directory like where the daily legend lost sector is, playable missions to recap previous expansion story beats, and theres more that I cant think of or havent seen cuz Im away from my setup for work so Ive been avoiding all Final Shape content lol but all Ive heard is that Bungie cooked
If you asked me, my personal tip for playing this game is if you know some buddies that play don't be afraid to ask them for advice or to join you for if you feel nervous/confused. The best outlet for help is those you can trust
Any tips I can make is don’t be too reliant on what’s meta and what content creators put out there. Don’t be a meta sheep past the blueberry phase. Try and experiment with different stuff once you’re comfortable and knowledgeable with the game. The pride and feeling you get when you make that great off meta build is indescribable.
Lmao there's like 8 builds in the whole game... Ur acting like we can custom builds everything is the same its either run meta or use stuff that's fun but nowhere near as good sadly. Ur not making no off meta build that nobody else hasn't made 30 times already and it melts. Sad but true. Cant even run 90% of the exotics cause they're all trash smh. This game could have been so much better if it was more like a looter shooter and less like an MMO and was pve based 100% with very little to no pvp... This game should have been more like a borderlands type game. Its way to restricted on what we r allowed to do in the game... We should be able to break the game completely and 1 shot anything once we get to that point or at the very least be allowed to equip and exotic in every slot. This game could have been so much better.
@@subzero308 there is a lot of types builds between pvp and pve, and even then you can personalize a build between the thousands of weapons, and flexible subclasses. I do admit the exotic armor can be better. The thing that makes destiny 2 special is that its a borderlands and you can take those borderland pve build and bring them to a pretty neat pvp. Restrication applly unfortunelty, its hard to balance builds between pve and pvp, but it is unique and that is the destiny 2 experience. If game companies are able to invest more into their product in the future, I hope some company in the future creates a game like Destiny but expands on the pve and pvp all-together. That would be awesome
@@subzero308Have you seen people use Triton Vice in Onslaught before Aztecross put it in his video, or Edge of Concurrence in general? I’m willing to bet no. What about a Rat King/Graviton Forfeit build on a Stasis Subclass as a melee focused build? Also willing to bet no. Just cause there’s a limited amount of stuff and some people have done it before, doesn’t mean we can’t have or feel like we made a good off meta build content creators haven’t put in a video yet. Like that Stasis Rat King build I mentioned. Works really well and it’s something I haven’t seen anyone ever mention or have tried. Fast uptime on stasis melees even with 17 strength which is what I have. So I can spam Shurikens almost every 10 seconds at the most with an invis and stasis overshield for extra survivability paired with the increase melee regen when surrounded+increased melee energy from shards+whisper of rime and conduction. This is an actual good off meta build I’ve never seen in the wild or in any comment sections.
for someone that is playing since 2017(least for d2) i can say be patience with it, there is gonna be A LOT of up and down, but still dont let nothing ruin your game journey
As a player who has never taken a break since Taken King, I like these videos. I have friends that have started coming back to the game, and I try to help them out and often find I have no idea where to tell them to start. Soooo much has changed, and come and gone, and being here for all of it… most of the time Im just as confused as they are when they are basically at this point starting fresh.
Note that all weapons are shared between your characters via the shared stash called the vault. So make at least two chars and grab both the purple and red new light kits to get the two really good exotic weapons! Really just make all three and grab all three so you don't have to do the Riskrunner quest.
I used to play Destiny from D1 to early D2 up till 2017. Now it's 2024 and I'm back playing the free stuff. A lot of my old stuff were gone but so far its been fun being back

As someone who played Destiny 1 and never really played Destiny 2, now's a great time because if you're on steam, all DLCs are on sale, I got all of them for $7-$15 each! Also, UA-cam is going to be your friend
Invest materials in your armour as soon as you get a decent set “the first set of season pass armour works for this” of armour. Limiting your armours power limits what you are capable of. Even at 7/10 most armour has enough power for buildcrafting
my tips are pick hunter, then complete the new light campaign, go to your directory, fly to the helm, find mara sov, and do her bounties called rivens wishes
I just noticed the taken have a darker orange glow in they're face at 21:45. I wonder if the taken are consumed by the darkness in the final shape?? maybe the witness has the power to take things and use them for his army too?
New Lights! If you see someone emoting in the Tower, join them! Some of my favorite memories have been when over a dozen people coordinate emotes and joke around in the Tower! You may even find your new fire team that way!
Here’s some tips: if you find elemental weapons they might have a unique perk to them other elementL weapons don’t get. Hatchling/Slice, Voltshot, Incandescent/Heal Clip, Repulser Brace/Volatile Rounds and Headstone/Cold Steel. Weapons with these perks are key to your subclasses as they will mesh perfectly for whatever build you have. You don’t have to have all slots with this element only 1 is fine, but the synergy between these special guns and your subclass is awesome. Think of it like Borderlands with class mods but easier and arguably better. Don’t be that guardian running voltshot on a strand subclass and not taking advantage of the arc verbs 🙃
Voltshot(Arc), incandescent(Solar), volatility(Void) never play these subclasses without these perks. You will dominate if you build into them. If you use strand (and you should) you want to go for a puppetry build
When starting out, find a friend to play with. Playing Destiny 2 solo when starting out is so freaking boring and hard to follow due to the lack of a linear mission-style story. Having a friend along to joke around with makes the game more fun and you learn together as you go.
started playing again yesterday after over 2 years without playing and wow the game is so different but mostly welcome changes, (lightfall campaign is a joke) now just waiting for all my legacy guns to be back but still a little salty they got rid of em in the first place
Newlights, I recommend when opening up D2 for the first time, and you start getting a feel for the game, try out the other classes as well, so many players invest 2-3 hundred hours without even touching another class, Plus its good to learn the skills to develop a playstyle around how your class works, otherwise have fun nerds
Also a tip for new players that must be included is: make it your main focus to collect gear with a high resillence stat. The higher your resillence the harder you are to kill. This is very important if you are trying to complete harder activities since the enemies in these activity do more damage. This stat caps out at 100 so no need to go higher than that. This will make your life in end game activities a lot easier but also helps with everything else
As a player who came into d2 in season of the lost and a f2p solo. I only lasted that season before started playing something else. Saw LightFall was free on ps so i decided to hop back into it and see whats changed and a lot has changed. Like discipline is important now for everyone not just titan. Its like i gotta remember how to play the game again after so long and not sure whats important to focus on. Last thing i remember doing was grinding dream city, Legendary lost sectors, and nightfalls.
Playing Onslaught with 1 new player (Titan) who fell a few times jumping gaps before the boss encounter. The other teammate (Hunter) was sending hurry up fire team messages. Unkind and impatience. We were all new once.
Haven't played in like 6 months, but Iron Banner today and all the new changes coming for Final Shape, it's the perfect time.to come back. Even thought I have 0 clue what to do outside of pvp lol
If I’m just bumming around on patrol I often like to head over to the Cosmodrome and say hi to any lvl 1,2 I see. I make sure I’m always wearing some good drip, nice sparrow and ship and using an interesting weapon or armour. Then I’ll show them how to activate heroic public events and show off some build/abilities. When the event ends I’ll do a multiplayer emote and just generally say hi/welcome. It’s resulted in a lot of new players immediately inspecting my character and a few friend/help requests lol. Point being it’s important for new players to feel welcome and when they inspect my character they get a good feel for the loot that D2 has to offer. I also think it’s important for Vets to lend new players a helping hand because the new light experience is really confusing for first time players. One more thing, if you’re running strikes and there’s a low level player with you…don’t just run off and leave them behind, stick around and wait for them, they’re NEW, not stupid.
Just because this is a shooting game with space magic, doesnt mean you have to force yourself to make a gun build. There are numerous builds where you can spam abilities and use your weapons as support to get your abilities back quicker using certain exotic armor pieces, ie Synthoceps, Liars Handshake. Some of the fastest cleared solo dungeons in the game have been with a Titan punching the bosses to death
I had my eyes on destiny 2 for a long time. And this was probably the best video to catch me up to speed. Thanks a lot! Wanted to get on a game to just chill and mindlessly play. Once you become a dad, you don't get the time to pick a new game every couple of months and learn its mechanics and grind it again and again. And for that, you need games that are on going and evolving so you just spend your daily 30 mins to continue where you left off. I feel like Destiny 2 can be an excellent fit for my needs + single player games that come and go. Lemme know if I am completely wrong here lolz.
2 things I would definitely recommend new players to do is the 1st seasonal mission of Season of the Wish (the current season) as this gives you the current seasonal artifact which gives major bonuses to your build (this season giving extra solar, strand, and stasis bonuses). I would also recommend doing Dares of Eternity as it's a great starting place to learn the combat of the game getting you used to the various enemy factions along with aspects of the game like champions, enemy control and boss fights.
Watched this vid while Destiny 2 is downloading... and OMFG! and HMOG! and... there goes my brain ... This game is something else, but I should expect nothing less from the originators of the Halo series. Can't wait to play this, thanx for the vid, it was totally overload, but awesome :-D
Starting out, the story helps with understanding, but also gets your level up sufficiently to get into other game content. The story is good, so focus on that and ignore the truck load of other activities. They are fun, but trying to do everything at the beginning will do nothing but overwhelm you, and kill the fun of the game. New Hunters, get Sunshot. As you learn, sunshot will help clear low level ads. It’s good enough that even though I started playing day 1, it’s still my main primary gun.
For all my new lights out there quick tip. Yellow bars and champions take triple melee damage and bosses take up to 4x melee damage now this will not be as much as you heavy weapon use that first but when your if whatever it is us still alive using either a melee ability or you base melee is a sure fire way to finish it off.
It's also a great time for veteran player who have only mained one class to explore another class cuz you don't have to light lvl, you just grab the gear in the chest next to shaxx in the hall. And you are probably flush w resources from this super long season so you can actually afford to unlock all the light classes fragments and aspect from irora and invest in some build crafting. Ive invested in a hunter the last couple weeks and have really been enjoying playing a new to me class.
For new light hunters, I actually recommend getting the arc hunter kit. Reason being is that you get one of the best exotics to pair with arc from the hall of heroes chest next to shaxx for free.

for new players who don't know what Red War is: it was the campaign in vanilla Destiny 2 that Bungie removed from the game even though it was content that people paid money for.
I actually think grinding public events is a great way to get started, once you get to that point. You'll be farming tons of glimmer to unlock those subclasses, you can familiarize yourself with the different planets and enemy factions, you get to take your gear out for a spin and start thinking about what kind of playstyle you like, you passively earn new weapons and armor (maybe even get some exotics to drop), and you get to meet new players, all in a super easy and low stakes environment. I think it's like the perfect thing to do as a new player if you just have no idea what to do.
build crafting can be overwhelming at first, but once you see how everything connects its, dare i say, actually pretty cool
Yeah, though less cool after they took away Warmind cells and mods that provided stat bonuses.
Honestly I'd say the best thing to do is just copy a build for whatever exotic armor piece you might have. That will give you an idea of how things synergize, and once you get a feel for it you can start experimenting on your own. At least, that's what worked for me when I started playing.

There is no build crafting in d2 anymore hasn’t been since lightfall. All we have now is a super bland and boring dumbed down version for new players
Yeah they need to always update it. I am looking forward to see new aspects and even fragments for light subclasses and also prismatic in the future. They need to add a handelinhdg stat for abilities cause they are sluggish sometimes (could be tied to mobility)
They also need update their engine and I think D2 will be a very nice game and maybe we can see D3
For those trying it for the first time, don't burn yourself out in this game. Play a little, take a break etc. I'd have met some awesome people while playing this game. You'll have a lot of great experiences in the long run.

My biggest advice is find a clan that is willing to help and guide new players and make friends in game. But don’t be afraid to hop around until you find the right group of people. There’s a lot of jerks out there but there’s also a lot of great people who love helping new players.
This is gold. I played during forsaken for a year and a half, but never did end game content (even in d1). Come back in november, i found a clan that helped me A LOT. Never did a raid or a dungeon or a gm, now i know a lot of things. To all the veteran out there: be kind and spend time explaining even the obvious things to blueberries, and they will be as good as you are.
I had someine on my very first day playing the other day (week?), help me climb up from one the cliffs. Literally would go down to me, climb to show me. And when I struggled, climbed back down. I finally got it and I wanna feel like I made them proud. Or annoyed. Anyway I hope they know I'm super grateful lol

For new players you’ll also hear a lot of jargon from the community so here’s some of the common ones:
Blueberry- player not in your fireteam or a random player. Also commonly derogatory for new or bad player
Wipe- everyone commit suicide to restart the encounter
Wipe for damage- wiping the team specifically to see the amount of damage each player has done. Often said as a joke right before a boss is killed
Gm- grandmaster. The hardest difficulty of the nightfall activity
New light- new player
Flawless- completing an activity without dying
God roll- the best roll of an item. Typically used to refer to weapons with the best possible perks it can have
Bow swap- a pvp strategy of using a bow to deal an initial burst of damage then quickly switching to a secondary weapon to quickly clean up the kill
Nova- nova bomb super
Well- well of radiance super
Goldie- golden gun super
T-crash- thundercrash super
Bubble- ward of dawn super
Year 1- when referring specifically to destiny 2 that’s the period of time consisting of its vanilla launch and first 2 dlc(curse of Osiris and warmind)
Year 2,3,4…- referring to each annual dlc after year 1(forsaken, beyond light, witch queen, lightfall)
Stacy- the warlock stasis ability to make a freezing turret.
“My son”/“my children”- any automated construct made by the warlock class(void soul, arc soul, threadlings, Stacy)
_____ Buddy- another name for automated construct: void buddy= void soul. Arc buddy= arc soul
Div bitch- the designated support player for dps phases. Named after the weapon divinity which started the trend
Add- additional enemies. Smaller enemies
Red bar- standard enemy indicated by a red health bar
Yellow bar- larger enemy indicated by a yellow health bar
Orange bar- boss type enemy indicated by an orange health bar
Used the term "Adds" to describe the smaller red-bar enemies that spawn. Turns out my buddy has never heard of anyone using that before. Great list right here. Forwarding it over to the new light buddy as we speak. 👍

I've got a few tips:
The number one thing I can suggest, as someone who has experienced burnout, is that it's fine not to play. Take breaks, take your time, and enjoy the game.
Another tip I have is to use what you like. In a lot of cases, the difference between different weapons or even whole builds are minor when you look at the actual results. But it's all about what YOU want to use. I have spent hours just buildcrafting and testing just to see what works and what I like. It is one of the most fun parts of the game. Unless your using a glaive.
My next tip would be to learn from other players. If you see a fellow guardian, whether they be a content creator or random, you met on a strike, and they are using a build.or gun you think is cool, by all means try it out. There is nothing wrong with copying other players, as long as you are having fun.
Last tip, play with others. Most of the endgame content in this game can't be done solo. Most of the content in the game overall is easier and more fun when done with others. So whether it be through LFG discord servers or your own friends, enjoy the game with others.
Real last tip: don't use glaives
Yea the burnout is real. I'm a day1 player and I took an entire year off. I missed seasons 21, 22, 23... and I admit it was overwhelming getting back into it last week. But im still getting the hang of the new systems.

Cross brings up a good point. When trying to learn how to play. Find your way of playing. Try to find what you want to do. And focus on getting gear that helps the way you play
One thing I wish I could've told myself starting out is don't rush and just enjoy things as you get them, it used to be so fun getting new exotics and seeing what they do
For new players looking to raid: watch a walkthrough video on the raid you want to do before trying to join any groups. You don’t need to know everything right away but it really helps to have at least some idea of encounter mechanics. (Edit) Just make sure you're honest with the group if you aren't understanding something, don't pretend that you know what you're doing if you don't.

@@subzero308 Keep in mind this advice is directed at new players, and is mainly in the interest of not wasting 5 other people's time with "missed the mechanic" wipes (especially on old raids) and the replacement finding periods when people get fed up and leave, as well as not wasting your own time as a solo newbie posting a "LF5M completely blind run, need teacher" in raid LFGs to find a group in the first place.
Also, I fail to understand how learning the gist of encounter mechanics before trying them for the first time "defeats the purpose of raiding". IMHO, the primary purpose of raiding has always been the rewards you get for doing so, and later on, completing the triumphs/seals. Sure the ideal experience for some could be for the whole team to go into it blind and figure it out together, but outside of day 1's, you're unlikely to even be able to form such a team in the first place. But to say that's the purpose of raiding also means to say that there's no reason to do any raiding after a day 1 clear, which is blatantly untrue.
TL;DR: the main reason people do raids is for the loot and titles, and you can go in blind all you want, but be prepared to waste a lot of your own and other people's time in the process

My friend has dabbled in destiny but only recently decided to get into it and he had some questions about what perks are good for weapons, I simply told him not to worry about that until he got into it more and unlocked better stuff to hopefully make it less stressful for him
DIM has good rolls wishlisted on but rolls isn't something you need to focus on until 1810.
Yeah until you learn some build crafting or what a good amount of perks do and how they can cater to what you want, new players shouldnt worry about it. Just check out what you get on your drops and see what sounds interesting
For new players wanting to try Destiny, you’ll have so much content and things to do in the start. I envy that a bit. My biggest piece of advice is to READ (what perks do, subclass verbs, etc) find people you vibe with and enjoy the ride.
Reading is very important in Destiny, except as a Titan I dont know how
Guide needs a part 2 that breaks the basics down even more. I've had multiple people try the game and can't find where quests are, major hubs, and you legitimately can't do much without the DLCs. Yes, the game hands out 1810 now, but with how hands off the new light experience is, people don't know what to do afterwards, where to look for things, where to farm. This helps for sure, but needs more depth. New players are usually so overwhelmed by pointless quests or the sheer amount of things to catch up on, they just go through the campaigns or do bounties in my experience.

I still consider myself a new light since I started the game since Witch Queen, mind you I got overwhelmed and burned out in a matter of weeks then took a hiatus for a year, I came back after lightfall and slowly immerse myself into the game, learn about the weapons, gear and classes, I started off with a warlock then I switched to Hunter it become my main class since, it fits my play style.
Recently I watched all the build guides and it made my destiny experience better, I played with random players and joined a clan who are extremely helpful and patient. My advice from one new light to another, don't rush, learn about which class fits your play style or which class along with the builds suits it to make your experience better, and find a clan that is willing to help new lights.
Big tip: use what you like, there will always be a meta of what's best but unless you're doing pinnacle content (raids, grandmaster nightfall) you don't need a meta build.
If you want to use a random 720 auto rifle because you like it, then use it. You do not have to be a sweatlord in every aspect of the game. Do not let people tell you what you can and cannot use. You can clear almost everything the game has to offer with any loadout you desire
Bro literally everything fun or even worth using is locked behind some raid or mission... U cant just play the game and have fun getting loot cause all the loot is locked behind something... The whole point of a looter shooter is to get loot from just playing the game... Sadly destiny lacks that.

Yeah, my GF is new light since 2 weeks, hasn’t paid a dime and is already enjoying some decent exotics…I mean, yeah a fair bit of loot is behind a paywall but there are 2 dungeons and 3 raids completely free, multiple strikes, couple nightfalls, legend lost sectors, a ton of world drops plus Onslaught now with a great loot pool….gf chose Voidwalker as her first subclass to learn, try telling her that Contraverse Hold and Graviton Lance aren’t fun? C’mon dude you’re exaggerating massively.

I say this to bother Cross, and ALSO there should be free activity for the 30th anniversary called Dare of Eternity. Maybe the Wastelander isn't META, but I love the gun and there are many other great weapons. Swords for the Speedrunners, a beam rifle, and you can also get your hands on the Exotic Forerunner as a big ole pistol that would make the Chief proud.

Don’t WORRY about crafting weapons or red borders, find some weapons you are comfortable with and focus on getting good Armor Set! Weapons always change Meta, but your Armor if you have a good enough one you can keep for ever

Honest advice to make your experience more enjoyable, it’s okay to look up good build and good weapons but make sure you try everything yourself. Everyone has a different play style. Just find what you find fun, and play that. Weapons and builds aren’t really needed until late game. So just have fun and don’t rush through the game.
I watch tons of guide videos across many different games. This has got to be the best presentation I've seen and heard on a new player guide. Great audio, straight to the point and no filler or bullshit. Be proud of this one, because you fuckin killed it.

Best advice for new players is to just not really look at and built videos or worry about what's meta or not or anything like that. You only get to experience this game for the first time once, just play the game and enjoy the mystery and not knowing everything. Once you really wanna start moving into harder content like raids, then start looking up meta weapons/builds

I think one thing he kind of skipped over for new players but briefly addressed some of it in the “What DLC to Buy?” Section is there are two other available subclasses in the game. Stasis and Strand. These ARE locked behind paywall DLCs. But if a new player is wondering how to get them, the Beyond Light campaign and Lightfall campaigns are where to unlock these.

@@xbon1 they’ve simplified a lot of the resources down to just more general currencies, in game saved loadouts, in game lfg, added descriptions, added markers in the directory like where the daily legend lost sector is, playable missions to recap previous expansion story beats, and theres more that I cant think of or havent seen cuz Im away from my setup for work so Ive been avoiding all Final Shape content lol but all Ive heard is that Bungie cooked

Don’t be a meta sheep past the blueberry phase. Try and experiment with different stuff once you’re comfortable and knowledgeable with the game.

Lmao there's like 8 builds in the whole game... Ur acting like we can custom builds everything is the same its either run meta or use stuff that's fun but nowhere near as good sadly. Ur not making no off meta build that nobody else hasn't made 30 times already and it melts. Sad but true. Cant even run 90% of the exotics cause they're all trash smh. This game could have been so much better if it was more like a looter shooter and less like an MMO and was pve based 100% with very little to no pvp... This game should have been more like a borderlands type game. Its way to restricted on what we r allowed to do in the game... We should be able to break the game completely and 1 shot anything once we get to that point or at the very least be allowed to equip and exotic in every slot. This game could have been so much better.
@@subzero308 there is a lot of types builds between pvp and pve, and even then you can personalize a build between the thousands of weapons, and flexible subclasses. I do admit the exotic armor can be better.
The thing that makes destiny 2 special is that its a borderlands and you can take those borderland pve build and bring them to a pretty neat pvp.
Restrication applly unfortunelty, its hard to balance builds between pve and pvp, but it is unique and that is the destiny 2 experience.
If game companies are able to invest more into their product in the future, I hope some company in the future creates a game like Destiny but expands on the pve and pvp all-together. That would be awesome

What about a Rat King/Graviton Forfeit build on a Stasis Subclass as a melee focused build? Also willing to bet no.
Just cause there’s a limited amount of stuff and some people have done it before, doesn’t mean we can’t have or feel like we made a good off meta build content creators haven’t put in a video yet.
Like that Stasis Rat King build I mentioned. Works really well and it’s something I haven’t seen anyone ever mention or have tried. Fast uptime on stasis melees even with 17 strength which is what I have. So I can spam Shurikens almost every 10 seconds at the most with an invis and stasis overshield for extra survivability paired with the increase melee regen when surrounded+increased melee energy from shards+whisper of rime and conduction. This is an actual good off meta build I’ve never seen in the wild or in any comment sections.

As a player who has never taken a break since Taken King, I like these videos. I have friends that have started coming back to the game, and I try to help them out and often find I have no idea where to tell them to start. Soooo much has changed, and come and gone, and being here for all of it… most of the time Im just as confused as they are when they are basically at this point starting fresh.
The mobile app Vault is great if you're on console and you need to transfer weapons
Note that all weapons are shared between your characters via the shared stash called the vault. So make at least two chars and grab both the purple and red new light kits to get the two really good exotic weapons! Really just make all three and grab all three so you don't have to do the Riskrunner quest.

As someone who played Destiny 1 and never really played Destiny 2, now's a great time because if you're on steam, all DLCs are on sale, I got all of them for $7-$15 each! Also, UA-cam is going to be your friend
Invest materials in your armour as soon as you get a decent set “the first set of season pass armour works for this” of armour. Limiting your armours power limits what you are capable of. Even at 7/10 most armour has enough power for buildcrafting

New Lights! If you see someone emoting in the Tower, join them! Some of my favorite memories have been when over a dozen people coordinate emotes and joke around in the Tower! You may even find your new fire team that way!
Here’s some tips: if you find elemental weapons they might have a unique perk to them other elementL weapons don’t get. Hatchling/Slice, Voltshot, Incandescent/Heal Clip, Repulser Brace/Volatile Rounds and Headstone/Cold Steel. Weapons with these perks are key to your subclasses as they will mesh perfectly for whatever build you have. You don’t have to have all slots with this element only 1 is fine, but the synergy between these special guns and your subclass is awesome. Think of it like Borderlands with class mods but easier and arguably better. Don’t be that guardian running voltshot on a strand subclass and not taking advantage of the arc verbs 🙃
Voltshot(Arc), incandescent(Solar), volatility(Void) never play these subclasses without these perks. You will dominate if you build into them.
If you use strand (and you should) you want to go for a puppetry build
When starting out, find a friend to play with. Playing Destiny 2 solo when starting out is so freaking boring and hard to follow due to the lack of a linear mission-style story. Having a friend along to joke around with makes the game more fun and you learn together as you go.

started playing again yesterday after over 2 years without playing and wow the game is so different but mostly welcome changes, (lightfall campaign is a joke) now just waiting for all my legacy guns to be back but still a little salty they got rid of em in the first place

Create a titan. Master the arts of glaives by doing the free intro mission to witch queen. Get Wormgod. Become a monster.
Pick two stats you want to max out first to 100, later 3 stats but this way you can min max your armor to whatever build or play style suits you
Newlights, I recommend when opening up D2 for the first time, and you start getting a feel for the game, try out the other classes as well, so many players invest 2-3 hundred hours without even touching another class, Plus its good to learn the skills to develop a playstyle around how your class works, otherwise have fun nerds
Also a tip for new players that must be included is: make it your main focus to collect gear with a high resillence stat. The higher your resillence the harder you are to kill. This is very important if you are trying to complete harder activities since the enemies in these activity do more damage. This stat caps out at 100 so no need to go higher than that. This will make your life in end game activities a lot easier but also helps with everything else
As a player who came into d2 in season of the lost and a f2p solo. I only lasted that season before started playing something else. Saw LightFall was free on ps so i decided to hop back into it and see whats changed and a lot has changed. Like discipline is important now for everyone not just titan. Its like i gotta remember how to play the game again after so long and not sure whats important to focus on. Last thing i remember doing was grinding dream city, Legendary lost sectors, and nightfalls.

Playing Onslaught with 1 new player (Titan) who fell a few times jumping gaps before the boss encounter. The other teammate (Hunter) was sending hurry up fire team messages. Unkind and impatience. We were all new once.
Haven't played in like 6 months, but Iron Banner today and all the new changes coming for Final Shape, it's the perfect time.to come back. Even thought I have 0 clue what to do outside of pvp lol
If I’m just bumming around on patrol I often like to head over to the Cosmodrome and say hi to any lvl 1,2 I see. I make sure I’m always wearing some good drip, nice sparrow and ship and using an interesting weapon or armour. Then I’ll show them how to activate heroic public events and show off some build/abilities. When the event ends I’ll do a multiplayer emote and just generally say hi/welcome.
It’s resulted in a lot of new players immediately inspecting my character and a few friend/help requests lol.
Point being it’s important for new players to feel welcome and when they inspect my character they get a good feel for the loot that D2 has to offer. I also think it’s important for Vets to lend new players a helping hand because the new light experience is really confusing for first time players.
One more thing, if you’re running strikes and there’s a low level player with you…don’t just run off and leave them behind, stick around and wait for them, they’re NEW, not stupid.

Just because this is a shooting game with space magic, doesnt mean you have to force yourself to make a gun build. There are numerous builds where you can spam abilities and use your weapons as support to get your abilities back quicker using certain exotic armor pieces, ie Synthoceps, Liars Handshake. Some of the fastest cleared solo dungeons in the game have been with a Titan punching the bosses to death
I got into destiny when beyond the light was free in ps plus loved it so much that i bought all the dlc for this game and i am excited for final shape
I miss early beyond light. Never felt so powerful ever since.

Wanted to get on a game to just chill and mindlessly play.
Once you become a dad, you don't get the time to pick a new game every couple of months and learn its mechanics and grind it again and again.
And for that, you need games that are on going and evolving so you just spend your daily 30 mins to continue where you left off.
I feel like Destiny 2 can be an excellent fit for my needs + single player games that come and go.
Lemme know if I am completely wrong here lolz.
2 things I would definitely recommend new players to do is the 1st seasonal mission of Season of the Wish (the current season) as this gives you the current seasonal artifact which gives major bonuses to your build (this season giving extra solar, strand, and stasis bonuses). I would also recommend doing Dares of Eternity as it's a great starting place to learn the combat of the game getting you used to the various enemy factions along with aspects of the game like champions, enemy control and boss fights.

Starting out, the story helps with understanding, but also gets your level up sufficiently to get into other game content. The story is good, so focus on that and ignore the truck load of other activities. They are fun, but trying to do everything at the beginning will do nothing but overwhelm you, and kill the fun of the game. New Hunters, get Sunshot. As you learn, sunshot will help clear low level ads. It’s good enough that even though I started playing day 1, it’s still my main primary gun.
I like gunpowder gamble and healing grenade. It’s either going to heal me or put me out of my misery. It’s a win win.
For all my new lights out there quick tip. Yellow bars and champions take triple melee damage and bosses take up to 4x melee damage now this will not be as much as you heavy weapon use that first but when your if whatever it is us still alive using either a melee ability or you base melee is a sure fire way to finish it off.
It's also a great time for veteran player who have only mained one class to explore another class cuz you don't have to light lvl, you just grab the gear in the chest next to shaxx in the hall. And you are probably flush w resources from this super long season so you can actually afford to unlock all the light classes fragments and aspect from irora and invest in some build crafting.
Ive invested in a hunter the last couple weeks and have really been enjoying playing a new to me class.
For new light hunters, I actually recommend getting the arc hunter kit. Reason being is that you get one of the best exotics to pair with arc from the hall of heroes chest next to shaxx for free.

To all my fellow Veteran guardians. Helping out the New Lights / Returning Young Wolves arriving over the next month is paramount to the future success of Destiny. Let's do our best to teach them and make them feel welcome. Even simple random encounters while hanging in The Tower or public roaming at a destination can make all the difference. and for those who don't yet realize it....the GRIND IS REAL. If you don't want to grind, then don't worry much about getting all the shiny toys and abilities. Just have fun shooting stuff.
