Another great argument for Light being smarter is his lack of experience. L had been doing this since he was 8 light’s ability to adapt and actually combat L is insane, its quite clear that as Brilliant as L is he also had a shit ton of advantages. he had every law enforcement agency in his hand which is how he found light. so while light had the supernatural element on his side, L had the world on his. they both had advantages
I think the writer tried combating that by making him the valedictorian and saying how he solved cases in the past. And the fact that he was sweating hard asl during the tennis match shows that L is still leaps and bounds above light. Also light is in the in and could get info by forcing people to do what he wants them to do
@@carlensoreo4886 that’s exactly why light is more impressive. Light couldn’t just outright tell people what to do. It had to be something within possibility
L is confirmed smarter. And found out light was Kira in under a week. But light was able to trick him countless times but tbf that's more out of Ls ignorance of the deathnote and shnigamis for a while.
Idk I kinda think L was smarter being that he has no possible context for anything that Kira can do and yet he almost deduces everything including the shinigami
Lights father and his arc always broke my heart. He truly believed in his son and passed away thinking Light wasnt Kira. Heartbreaking how far Light goes for his goal.
I feel like Death Note was always a sad eerie story for me. At first it was an epic fight of intelligence between two people, but after the death of the one detective lady where Light made her commit suicide it turned into a sad story about this man’s decent into madness and insanity. It’s quite sad especially after seeing what type of person Light could have been. In the end when I see him laughing manically trying to convince everyone of his delusions, I always remember the first episode where he was a bored high school student.
Deathnote is incredibly tragic, and just like you said, it's heartbreaking to think about what Light could have been. My sister and I are rewatching it and she said it was incredibly sad to her, and I agree. It just shows the amazing ability of the writing.
The death note corrupted him, giving him the God Complex. Being a manipulative bitch and became a pathetic coward human at the end of the manga, his ending in the manga is kinda funny and it humiliates him so much which he deserves it for killing L. His father's death is useless for him and Near is true he is just a murderer sociopath. Ryuk is even worst than Light, destroyed Light's future just because he is BORED lol
It's just like Yoichiro (Light's father) said once. It's this power of killing that the Death Note has that is cursed and It curses people (It was also stated by Ryuk that things always end badly for humans who use the Death Note). It's funny to see that when Light loses his memories about the Death Note, he's a very sweet and considerate person, but when he owns the Death Note he turns into a sadistic serial killer. And of course, Light has his own fault on this since we could see that his dad also had ownership of a Death Note at one point and wasn't corrupted by that power, but think of what most people would do if they dad that sort of power. I'm not even sure about what I would do myself.
This is truly a work of art. Think about it: the average audiobook is 10 hours, you wrote a book, narrarated it, and put visuals to it! To top it off, it is continuously entertaining, this 10 hour video has constant flow and character with little dryness. This video needs more attention and respect.
You said is perfectly. It’s hard to believe anyone would dedicate this much time and soul into a video essay. I could only imagine how exhausting this was to make, but it’s been done so well
True but u missed the light tik toc music put in the background it's not a book either by any means only one that describes another books persons or storys account other than this I utterly agree work of art even if he did it in sections and put it together I don't feel like anyone else could have done better huge respect to creator, death note creators and almost the man who made this comment but I doubt it was difficult to make this would be enjoyable compared to watching and reviewing an anime based on popularity to note he probably took his time on it too would want it no other way if u don't enjoy making something no one will enjoy watching it I promise he did this in the course of a few months like I said tho cootos not trying to take anything away from this man
@@PanicGiraffe lmao that made my day 🤣🤣🤣 Don't worry Sarada has already surpassed her Father Sasuke in his own words in the manga and anime. Truly the best series in the series.
To be fair, you can see similarities between BB and Kira‘s downfall. beyond birthday was so focused on L that he would underestimate ”the average“ FBI agent Naomi Misora. Much like Kira who dedicated all his efforts in defeating L (and later N) only to be shot and indirectly killed by Matsuda who everyone always labeled as the idiot of the Kira task force. The two smartest criminals were taken down by average normal people
@@mikoaltYou could probably connect it to someone more like Aizawa then who wasn’t a complete genius but was still smart enough to know what was going on and made his own little “traps” to try and see if Light was Kira
I feel something worth mentioning would be Matsuda's exclusive "unpredictability" stat being a 9/10. Everything from successfully infiltrating Yotsuba by himself to reactively drawing his gun to shoot light when he felt betrayed by him. The man is a lose cannon and nobody talks about it. Lol
Lol yes!!! Matsuda was the butt of everyone's jokes but who really came thru in the end?!?! Matsuda finally had his fucking moment and it was glorious, avenging L's death using his badass sharpshooter skills - an unsung hero
Just realized Ryuk is like the reader, and the world of Death Note is the story. Everything that happened was just to alleviate our boredom. Ryuk having started everything by dropping his Death Note, he is also like the author.
It takes a lot of time and effort to make a 10 hour long video essay, your work will forever be admirable even if most of people watching may not watch it all.
@@seansiquig i watched regularly till the 6 hours mark or so now i just watch it when can't find anything better to do Like My gatekeeper from all the YT rabbit holes
The reason the shningami king liked light so much is because he saw himself in him. The A-kira chapter shows this. The reason he added that rule is because like light, the shinigamj king hates to lose and tanaka definitely outsmarted him so he made an example out of him
L is definitely socially awkward, but 1/10 is unfair imo. Just as one example, remember how the first time he met Misa he complimented her to distract Light, then swiped her phone, while making a joke. L clearly understands social dynamics, but he just prefers not to engage in them. So it's more like he doesn't care to socialize, not that he can't. I'd give him a 4 or 5/10 at least.
Somebody with 1 / 10 social skills would not be able to stand up and give a speech to a room full of people nor would they be able to improvise that phone call to Matsuda without giving away he was using code words. Imo L and matsuda should have the same score because they both have the same capacity for social situations, they are just naturally awkward at it.
That’s because L hates the human race, that they’re manipulative lying tricksters (generally speaking not wrong). That’s why he doesn’t have any friends that the *actually* considered a friend. The Author said he lied when saying Light was his first friend.
This man looked in depth into the amount of sweat marks drawn through the series. He analyzed 100% of the manga and anime and made reference to the death parades cameo, the musical, Netflix adaptation, and the Japanese adaptation. I think I'm in love. I spent my day off watching this, and I will say with honesty that it made my day, week, month, and probably year. This is amazing. You are amazing.
"He analyzed 100% of the manga" The dude mostly narrates the manga, that's not what analysis is. However, I command him for doing only one long ass video instead of making several small ones for views
Fantastic video, first off it's insane that it's actually 10 hours. Really one of, if not THE most comprehensive video on the show and it's appendixes. One thing I think people never give Light credit for is that this dude lived a whole ass school life and only having his room as a 'HQ' + being top of his class for the entire duration of his fight with L. On the contrary, L had all the time and resources in the world to tackle the Kira case and even requires weird quirks like having to sit in a particular way and having and entire lifestyle build around him to rival Light. Just imagine what Light could've done if he could dedicate himself 100% to being Kira...
I just watched it for the first time last month, and now I have this beautiful essay to watch immediately after. Thank you to all you wonderful original supporters for finally getting me to watch, I know what you all mean now!
5:11:00 I’m not sure if you address this later but the anime specifically mentions that when a shinigami dies by protecting a human the human inherits their remaining lifespan. So it’s implied Misa’s lifespan is much longer than a normal humans, thus even having it halved could still leave her with a longer life than most people.
Yeah that’s one of the rules. Even assuming Gelus and Rem don’t kill many people, at the very least Misa would’ve gotten that one guy Rem killed for Higuchi’s, L’s and Watari’s lifespan shortly after she traded for the eyes. Tbh though I think even the author forgot about that rule, since Misa still canonically dies very young lol
@@bunniesandbeheadings3336 i mean it wouldn't make her invincible or anything like that, it would just slow her aging and prevent her from dying by natural causes. She could easily die by other forces hence why she killed herself.
Watching this in a pitch black room SPECIFICALLY with an OLED display that emits zero light for black pixels makes the transitions soooo surreal. Its incredible
Or a one shot where Light never finds the death note and competes with L in a detective duel or whatever. Might need more than a one shot to flesh it out but it would be cool to see the whole cat and mouse thing again.
i mean he was winning for a couple of years so there is that. his duty wouldnt stop just with killing near and others, he would keep doing what he was till death
Its so multilayered For Naomi's Death it showed 3 things 1. Light's Absolute Evil 2. Light's Genius by testing to death note to show how much pre-death power it has over a person. 3. The power of the deathnote that Naomi didnt take Light's phone for a chance to expose Light as Kira because her "fate",in the story, was already complete, hinted to be a hidden suicide.
2. I don't think it takes to be a genious to try how far you can go. 3. If the death note can control her to commit suicide (something you actively do unlike an accident) and it's already in effect it's only natural that she can't control her body anymore.
Letting her go to L meant exposing that Kira can use more than heart attacks to kill. This would be a major blow to Light. He had to remove her from the board, and quickly.
This video is such a blessing for death note fans. Legit a historic kind of thing. I always come to this video not even for background noise, like I paint to this video all the time and it really hits my happy place. I’m extremely grateful for this video
This video itself is as legendary as Death Note for how complete, observative, and thorough of a narrator and researcher you are. Thank you for this entertaining and detailed video, this was ten hours well spent.
5:11:05 If memory serves me, the remaining life span of the first Shinigami to sacrifice himself for Misa, would have been transferred to her. Depending on how diligent he was about writing names in his death note, quartering her lifespan would still leave her with, in theory, hundreds, maybe thousands of years to live. This doesn't in any way discredit her loyalty to Light, as we have no reason to think she is aware.
Misa's lifespan is one of those things about DN that can really tie your brain in a knot. Two divisions of her lifespan but potentially Rem's years, but also what if her eventual suicide was the result of her life being so shortened, and that Light's defeat was part of facilitating said severely reduced lifespan.
Honest to God, Matsuda is the BEST character. Throughout everything he was incredibly underestimated and yet in the end, he was always the one who pulled through. He got the evidence Yostuba had the Notebook, he was the one who was always there to support the others, and HE was the only one who acted in the end and finally ended Light once and for all. In a story where intelligence was key, emotions were the enemy none of them were prepared for.
Agreed. One of my least favourite parts of the two post-original run chapters, the one with the guy killing off the elderly and the one with A-Kira, is that Matsuda was just sort of relegated to a joke in both of those chapters. Yeah, he was always goofy, but I found it a bit of a shame that after how much he pulled through, and especially after his moment with Ide in the final chapter, he just sort of relapsed into being a dumbass.
Being BETRAYED is a wholeeeeeeeeeeeeee different type of way to feel...; Dude trusted him with all his might, stuck his neck out for him, and always encouraged his innocence...; Man, Matsuda had to have felt one of the top 10 worst feels ever;
Death Note has been my comfort show for the longest time, and I've always enjoyed the conversations it creates. with this video I feel like i gained a whole new appreciation for the story and especially the manga. great work!! I'll definitely look more into your other concent
I can't believe I just watched a 10 hour long video, did it take me 9 days? Yes, was it worth it? Absolutly, Such an enjoyable way to revisit the story of Death Note without going back an rewatching the anime or rereading the Manga. And the narrators voice is extremely soothing. This can also kinda act as an e-book in a way. Which is how I watched some of it by just listening while working or traveling around. Excellent job. This project must have been a massive undertaking, you should be extremely proud!
Thanks i’m only up to the part, explaining Ella‘s backstory in the manga and I’m hooked 10 hours? This is incredible and I thought I was a death note fan. Thank you so much
A small correction: Near potentially using the Death Note to control Mikami was not debunked. The Death Note CAN be used to control a holder of the Shinigami Eyes, as Light had done when controlling and eventually killing Jack Neylon, a Shinigami Eye wielder in the manga. He also uses the Death Note to kill Higuchi, another user of the Shinigami Eyes. A mistranslation of the Death Note's 39th rule is the main cause of this discrepancy. The commonly used English translation for this rule states "Humans that have traded for the eye power of a god of death will see a person's primary life span, and will not be influenced by the Death Note." Which seems to imply a Shinigami Eye user cannot be controlled. This, however, is a mistranslation. A more accurate translation of the Japanese reads "The lifespan visible by Shinigami Eyes is the person's original lifespan, one that is not affected/influenced by the Death Note in the human world." Thus, the statement was talking about the Shinigami Eyes displaying the projected lifespans of humans in the event that they never come into contact with a Death Note, not that the eye user themselves cannot be influenced by the Death Note. This means that Near still could have used it to cheat in his battle against Kira. Perhaps, then, Near's "misfortune" at the hands of the Death Note is a life of inactivity and inability to step out from L's shadow.
i think that ties in really well with the game that Near viewed it all as. L made it a contest of ego where he had to win to prove it to himself. Near said, you’re nothing but a murderer, this is nothing but a game, as long as i can solve the puzzle and come out on top i don’t care how i do it. a great way to wrap up this tale cautioning of the dangers of human ego.
even if Near used the notebook on Mikami I think Light would have lost. Near would have 5 choices for victory 1. Using it to kill Light 2. Using it to kill Mikami 3. Using it to manipulate Light 4. Using it to manipulate Mikami 5. Not using it It's obvious 1 and 2 weren't done. If Near used it to manipulate Light or Mikami he would still have the notebook with neither knowing his real name. It is somewhat confirmed that it wasn't used on Light with the ruies of the death note (this could be due to mistranslation and is a grey area.) This is due to the rule that once the type of death written in the note book can be only overriden within 400 seconds but Near found the notebook in advance and ryuk used the death note to kill light of a heart attack. If Near were to use it on Mikami (which I find likely as Near wouldn't want Mikami to discover the Notebook has been tampered just o be safe) it would not change the result. Mikami would have still gone to the warehouse and written the names in the fake book. That's why I never understood the debate. It's probably true, but it doesn't matter or change the result

I actually think that the line about Light being L's first ever friend was genuine in a very unconventional way. Since L is a very unconventional character, his definition of a fulfilling friendship is probably not what an average person would expect it to be. His quasi-friendship with Light has probably been the most mentally stimulating relationship L has ever had. They are on the same wave-length and both can surprise the other (when nothing/nobody ever surprises them). Solving this case together with the person who is equally competent and intelligent as L yet also the key to the puzzle has got to be the most exciting human interaction for him. Even though he knows it is not sustainable and that, in the end, one of them will have to lose, having a worthy opponent like Light playing this game with him makes this worth it.
Hm, I could see that but Tsugumi Ohba did say that L actually had a very strong distaste for Light the entire time so it just depends on what you think counts as a friend, I like that it is left up for fan speculation I personally think L only said it to see what Lights reaction would be and to get in his head
@@BriarShinn Absolutely. But you can disdain someone and still find yourself drawn to them. Kinda like Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter? Their relationship is also perplexing, that's more of what I had in mind.
What’s crazy is only L was smart enough to see that there was a HUGE, INSTANTANEOUS change in Misa’s and Light’s demeanor. To everyone else he looked like a madman but he knew something fishy was going on. He just couldn’t put his finger on it cause it was from supernatural causes.
now that someone mentioned it, even mello and near did not had this skill to notice such small changes in behaviour which makes you think how smart L was.
@@asylumrain yes near and mello both were not even near L or lights level. L and Light were far above these both that Light alone was about to win against both mello and near if mikami hadnt made a blunder that is.
According to the stats in the 13th edition, Near has intelligence equal to Light. Not saying that makes them evenly matched, as Lights overall stats beat out pretty much everyone when you add them all together, esp since he's got charisma going for him. I just will forever defend my boy bc he catches way too much shit for being a "wannabe L" like that's not precisely what he was raised to be. Like it's his fault he was groomed to be exactly who he was xD he fulfilled his role beautifully imo.

Just went through the 10 hours I think this was a great, and interesting way to depict and analyse the series. It slightly fills our gap of “the need for more Death Note” as he says. I've never seen the show but something tells me at the sheer length of this even the show wouldn't be this long and you could read the manga in less time than this
" I knew it. I wasn't wrong. I won. But still lost?" Amazing video. So much more I would type but I feel this resonates with me the most. Death Note truly is a masterpiece of interpretation. Upon finishing the full video I must say this analysis has given me profound perspective on the 2nd half of death note. Thank you!
I think L is smarter than Light but the story context gives them an even playing field, L is held back by the task force (I'd say most notably Lights father as if Light wasn't his son he would be more willing to follow with L's theory). And Light is held up by the fact that he has a literal God helping him, as without Ryuk, L would have won at the potato chip scene as Light wouldn't know where he was being observed from and would have either the killing stopped or he kills and gets observed doing so.
L is held back by the task force? Without obvious plot armor over 9000 the task force would've sent L to hell (well, probably more prison). Not only did he constantly lie to them, he straight up violated the law himself. Light's father did agree to the violation of civil rights in form of monitoring his son so L would drop the suspicion. L: We found nothing? Meh' doesn't matter, even so we have absolutely no evidence against Light, we continue with Light as our only suspect.
You are pretty wrong there. If we suppose that Light just gets the Death Note and Ryuk never appears, Light would have never learned of Raye Penber and so L would not start suspecting the two families Raye was investigating, which in turn means the potato chip scene never happens. It's hard to speculate what would go on from there, Light did want to get close to L so he could learn his name, if we assume that Rem still gives Misa Gelus's death note, then things do spiral on from there. The main road we can take is: A: Light somehow found a way to get close to L. In this scenario Light and L meet and the story stays a lot more on the same path the canon timeline went, L starts suspecting light and is 99.99% sure that he is Kira, just like the canon timeline. Misa then appears and the story gets pretty complex from there, if you want I would be willing to go more in depth with this. B: Light doesn't find a way to meet L before Misa gets Gelus's death note. In this scenario things remain really stale, after Misa realizes who Kira is at Sh
Death Note is one out of a handful of anime I wish I could forget every year so that I could rewatch it again and feel the awe of every moment from scratch once more. The first time I watched it was the moment I truly found out the extent of what the medium of anime had to offer. Once I had outgrown all the normal Shonen that most people start out with and after watching a bunch of RomComs I needed something a little more grown up but not because it was violent or gory but because it was mentally engaging and stimulating and Death Note was absolutely the best thing being served that day. It was so good in fact that I finished it in a weekend starting on Friday and ending the morning of the next Monday. I did nothing but watch that anime and maybe eat and use the restroom. That magic, I wish I could get it back. This video really helps cus it includes stuff I didn’t know about, expectedly since it’s a 10 hour long video. Honestly, in my opinion Light’s biggest flaw was simply his hugely inflated ego. It’s exactly as L said, he is immature and hates to lose. He had many actual solutions open to him during the final arc, yet he had a psychological need to be the one to beat Near. To beat him by being better and winning. He couldn’t do it any other way. It’s why I have said Kira would have won with a dumber person doing it. What would you or I do in his position? The easiest solutions. Not the most complex, over the top, convoluted plans to prove I’m smarter than someone. Hey I’m perfectly happy to cheat or use cheap tactics in such a high stakes situation. I’d have no qualms. But since Light has this pathology he simply *must* beat Near in his own game, in a mental contest of wits. Think, for a second, truly, about the level of pure power Light/Kira possessed prior to the final confrontation. It’s not properly depicted, but it’s very clear that the world has flipped. The same minority that openly supported Kira and were thought of as extremist weirdos, are now the norm. It is the anti-Kira people who exist in a minority. Almost every world government has officially either stopped anti-Kira activity, or outright declared support. Or at least, are on their way there. Light literally controlled the collective resources of most of the worlds governments. Including all military and intelligence agencies. He knew exactly where and exactly when Near was going to meet him. Exactly where the actual in person Near would be. What would you do? You wouldn’t walk in completely without a backup plan so convinced of your own superior brilliance that you’d win. What I would do, is very simple (hence why Light doesn’t bother to entertain it) All it takes is a phone call. Literally just call the chief of staff, or the emperor, to literally any top military leader in the nation. Then simply explain. I am Kira, blah blah. There will be a group of people in X warehouse on X place at X time. These people are enemies of Kira. I am charging you with the responsibility of ensuring that no one gets out of that building alive, except for one person. A person known as Light Yagami will be in attendance of this meeting. His safety is paramount and he must be protected at all costs. Once you have dealt with everyone else, you will ensure he escorted safely to X location. He will identify himself clearly when he sees your people. If a single hair is harmed on Light Yagami’s head. I promise that every political and military leader will not survive till their next sunrise, do you understand? Let’s be honest, faced with such a threat, by such a larger than life figure. 99% chance that whoever it is caves to the command. They might even want to do it, considering how popular pro-Kira thoughts and attitudes are. Then all Light has to do is go to the meeting. Ensure it’s actually Near (cuz if he didn’t actually go, he couldn’t be sure. Otherwise I’d just have the entire place levelled with an air strike). During the meeting, it’s highly unlikely Near would be able to pull out his win. A, Light wouldn’t even have to have Mikami come at all. But he might, if he wants to get rid of all loose ends at once. And B, there’s no need for the weird complex fake notebook switchy crap. Even if Near did convince everyone. It wouldn’t matter, everyone is marked for death anyways. Even if they cuff him, whatever. They won’t kill him, they’re too ‘noble.’ Then Light just waits for the death squad to breach, shout out “I am Light Yagami! And boom. They’d gun down everyone else before they could explain anything. Then all Light has to do is take the Death Notes from each person ensuring he has all of them, then simply allow the soldiers to escort him away. Whole thing done super easy by simply utilising some of the truly immense power and resources he possesses. It’s ironic, Light constantly touts himself as a God, yet he barely exercised any actual power over people, unless you count just killing them. He was always locked in a personal mental struggle that it distracted him from the larger world.
Major issue with that is now the governments of the world have a clue to Kira. All they need to do is have a third party kidnap Light later on and they’ll be safe. This could be many years later, and have the group claim to be unaffiliated with the government. Even if the governments of the world were too scared to do this, there is no guarantee that every single person who knows that Light Yagami is somehow affiliated with Kira will obey, and none of them will leak the information or use it to kill Light themselves. At the end of the day, that plan just has too many unknowns.
@@johnlevin4567 The government would be way too scared to even touch Light Yagami knowing he has a relationship to Kira, they would think as soon as they take Light everyone would die. Even if the government had a SLIGHT suspicion Light was Kira, they would never do something like that because it's too risky for them. Light could even tell Misa or Mikami to just kill everyone from the government if Light doesn't send Misa or Mikami a message every lets say 10 hours. Even if thats too hard, Light could just bring along Mikami and the government would have no idea who to kill, you are also ignoring the fact Light has been in control for 5 years and the government wouldn't dare do anything. Light has so many options, he could have just not went or tested the notebook again, but he did. He could have just put in a real paper inside the death note (really well concealed so it looks like a death note paper) and told Mikami to write his name there, yes they could test it and realize that the paper isnt real, but in that 20 minute frame of Near explaining to everyone why Light is guilty, they couldn't have. Light was just too arrogant, I also think it was a bit of story-bending for Light to lose because realistically Light was smart enough to avoid all these things.
@@Adjgar-uu7bu Actually I thin it would be the opposite. They would consider it too risky NOT to do as Kira commands. If Kira makes it clear that not following the command leads to deadly consequences, what choice do they truly have? And I doubt they’d immediately make the connection that Light IS Kira. The only people who even suspect such a thing are all dead or in that Warehouse, it’s more likely they’d assume that Kira sees Light as valuable for some purpose or plan and wants to protect him for some reason. But even if you disagree with my specific laid out plan, the point I was making is that there were far *more* solutions more easily available for Light to use that he didn’t bother with. Plans that you or I can come up with because we’re not a pathological narcissist who must use the most convoluted brilliant plans and schemes to prove intelligence. Those solutions you entitled are valid examples or alternative approaches. I simply mentioned one possible one utilising Political/Social power of the Kira figure. I’d probably actually do all of them. As many backup plans as possible, everything I can think of. At least 5 contingencies. Wouldn’t you? I mean, this is literally a life and death confrontation right? Would you trust one single plan, even one you think has no holes, alone? I wouldn’t. I’m humble enough to understand I’m not perfect and thus my plans may have flaws or holes, thus I’d happily employ multiple of them to make sure all of them together would ensure victory. But Light is SO sure of his own brilliance, his own perfection, that he goes in with only one single, extremely convoluted complex plan and trusts it completely because, well, he came up with it, so it must be foolproof. He can’t entertain the possibility that he’s missed something, especially as the show processes and he gets more and more narcissistic.
That is what I do not like about stories or anything fiction. They show certain illogical things which are only done so as to take the story in a certain direction And when I think what would someone in reality do in this situation, it's completely different. Same with death note. A person as equivalently smart as Light Yagami in real world would be way smarter in the sense that they would not do certain foolish acts which Light did, like they would not have ego or a child like behavior. In the start itself they would be well aware that they can be tracked and will not be so reckless about using it. In that way I consider C -Kira better. As he was never tracked atleast. It was light's own desires and way of doing things that led to his fall
@@princeytronPersonally, my first thought would be "Oh goddamn, I don't wanna die." But when it comes to wonder why Light Yagami, I feel like my first thought would be "Oh, is he Kira?" I'd probably be like "Maybe, but I don't know" and I wouldn't entertain the thought much outside of my mind.
I like how this gives me new content I've never seen. Thank you for showing things I didn't knew about Death Note and making a 10 hour video the most entertaining video I have ever seen in this platform.
This is an absolute masterpiece. I’m only 2.5 hours in but there is so much depth and insight into The thoughts of all of these characters (a lot of which I’ve missed even though I’ve watched this show well over a dozen times over the years) thank you for this video. I can’t wait to check out the rest of your content.
This is an iconic piece, I love that almost 2 decades after release, theres still people making in depth analysis Edit: YES THE MUSICAL. THANK YOU! People expect the Musical to be bad because it was made in the west, but its genuinely glorious! It's got a few plot differences (biggest one being Rem, having a fascination with humans and find them somewhat beautiful, ending with "When Love Comes" where she sings about being explicitly In Love with Misa). Beautiful show, Japanese and English. It was only performed in Japanese, which is wild because it was written in English for an English audience. Also Misa's "Are Your Ready" is a genuine bop, and Sayu's "My Hero" is a hilarious piece of irony where she sings about how Light is her hero while hating Kira. "Stalemate" is something I listen to constantly (made an ASL interpretation for class). Just everything is great. Genuinely great piece, I will die on the hill of it being a must watch, even if you dont like musicals.
YES!! this musical has some goood songs. Where is the justice, Stalemate, SECRETS AND LIES, Playing his game!!! Even the game begins and the ending of There are lines IS SOOO GOOD
At first I thought this was an alternate Death Note story without Light as the protagonist, but it's such a great retelling and you add in some juicy extra facts that I love. I wish you all the best
i‘ve been a huge death note fan for a few years and i‘ve watched the anime and read the manga multiple times + the novels etc. i‘m so happy rn that i found this video because i‘ve been wanting to get more back into the manga once again and this is perfect. i‘ll be watching this while drawing!! :)
Around 2:19:48, you state that L doesn't care about Ukita. While it's true that through his backstory, we are told that L does not care about things like justice. While he is not sweating, however, we can see at 2:19:58 that he is clutching onto his legs extremely tight. His hands are even shaking as he does. He is the most distant to Ukita out of everyone, and so it would make sense he is the one most calm. But he is also acting calm under pressure to keep Aizawa from getting reckless and getting killed as he states, showing a degree of control under pressure.
Yeah, L early on showed genuine concern for the task force and wanted them to stay alive. The chase for Kira simply began to consume his thoughts so much, that eventually he viewed the rest as baggage. He invites most of them to just leave during Yotsuba arc. I think L's initial fear is because Kira's method of killing is totally unknown to him, he has no way to analyze the danger his task members are in, and *that* scares him.
Absolutely phenomenal, i did fall asleep twice because your voice is very calming to listen to as an insomniac but each time when i woke up, id go back to make sure i didn't miss anything. Thank you for sharing!! :)
im 5 hours into this video, (after L dies) and this video is a total masterpiece, its like rewatching death note all over again but going into so much more detail and it gives loads of different perspectives that i have never thought of, this is the only really long youtube video which i have ever seen to be entertaining all the way through, its a work of art
Amazing. I've been going through some tough times the last few days, and this 10-hour video about Death Note of all things has greatly, GREATLY helped. Wonderful video, I watched from the very beggining to the last second of the full 10 hours, I didn't sleep during it, nor did I play it in the background, the entire time my eyes were locked on my screen. This video is structured wonderfully, and I'm glad I came across it. Your video has gave me a much better understanding of the story even after watching the series 2 times. I have learned so much about the world of Death Note with this video and I am so glad to have more knowledge about it now. Thank you very much.
Bruhhh I thought this was going to be a 10 hour long black screen video (refrence to L replying to Misa "it would be dark") but damnnnnnn man you seriously made a fuckin 10 hour long video with explaining all the chapters; The dedication!
Watching this for 10 hrs straight is insane...but that's exactly what I did. I felt like I was just watching the show again. I forgot how much I use to love the show. Good job man. 👏

Suscribing out of respect of the sheer dedication it takes to make a 10hr vid alone never less the time and research it would have taken to make such an indepth analysis. Huge props to you!
I'm probably thinking to deep but I just love the fact that light is his name because now any title with it has double meaning. It's not only something people call him but a reminder of how he wanted to be something greater(A god) which is usually represented with light itself. Also reminds me of how L said to Misa, "Yes, it would be dark" 😭
It's also interesting how is name is Yagami. Yagami backwards is "I'm a gay." The bible deems homosexuality to be a sin, therefore you could make the conclusion that Light is a sinful or evil god.
@@theresnothinghereatallYagami 夜神 is Japanese for Night God. I think it's unlikely that the Japanese authors did some pun that only works in English when they used kanji (rather than latin letters) for their manga. The backwards pronunciation of yagami doesn't match how the letters are pronounced in the suggested backwards English reading, either.
you said it best near the end, consuming Death Note just makes you want more!! this video scratched that itch for me, but now i want more again! agh!!! thank you for this ❤

The fact this video is 10 hours long and interesting the entire way through, it did take me multiple days to finish usually listening to in my car on my way home from work or at home on my tv is commendable the owner of this channel is the goat
at 25:45 BB dying of a "mysterious heart attack" in prison is probably because the shinigami who gave him the book got bored, a reference to how at the end of death note's final episode ryukk says he's not waiting around to see light die in jail, and writes his name in his death note.
Incredible video in all aspects. Was just like rewatching the whole thing again. Also its so insane how many of those nice little montages you had to gut to get around youtube's broken filters
I am impressed by the consistent editing of this video. Normally absurdly long videos such as this one have very minimal background footage (if any,) but this video's.. well... video is great. I especially liked how Light's monologue about being Kira near the end was animated.
Been watching this bit by bit, day by day, and it's honestly better than the show. Best analysis of the story I've seen. Gonna be sad when it ends. It isn't just the length either, your takes are very interesting, not the usual. Excellent work, I can't imagine how long it took. The dedication to your craft is absolutely outstanding.

He definitely has trouble do to his nature and like you say lack of care to engage in social behavior but he can do pretty well if he tries
i think its to establish his character, but it rly doesnt add up yeah
I'd say 5 is the perfect spot, he isn't very social, but understands how it works and succeeds when he needs to try

Well let's experience it then
5:11:00 I’m not sure if you address this later but the anime specifically mentions that when a shinigami dies by protecting a human the human inherits their remaining lifespan.
Yea but like 1 year after light dies so does Misa so I think Near used the Death nite to kill her since he couldn’t prove she was involved
I think it’s mainly just longevity, not full on immortality that’s why she was able to kill her self.
@@bunniesandbeheadings3336 i mean it wouldn't make her invincible or anything like that, it would just slow her aging and prevent her from dying by natural causes. She could easily die by other forces hence why she killed herself.
@@bunniesandbeheadings3336 I do wonder if rems lifespan went to light or misa or both? She technically prevented both of them from dying by execution.
Watching this in a pitch black room SPECIFICALLY with an OLED display that emits zero light for black pixels makes the transitions soooo surreal. Its incredible
I'd love a one shot where lights plan succeeds and we see the world as it would have been.
Light did succeed, but for several years.
Pretty sure there was a one shot where light won and went on for many more years killing, then decided he wanted to become a Shinigami.
@@Garbarrel Wasn't that a Korean Movie
Its so multilayered
For Naomi's Death it showed 3 things
1. Light's Absolute Evil

@@Hugslothshe doesn't kill herself in the manga, I'm pretty sure.

Matsuda was LUCK and AUDACITY itself

Near would have 5 choices for victory
1. Using it to kill Light
2. Using it to kill Mikami
3. Using it to manipulate Light
4. Using it to manipulate Mikami
5. Not using it
It's obvious 1 and 2 weren't done.
@@djsjdh-hoahdi its a story about the rot of humanity, and a cop out second part which is just a hamfisted way to try demoralizing those who can tell right from wrong and want justice
In the 13 volume interview with the author they pretty much confirm that this is what happened that near was controlling him with the notebook.

Who the fu*k are you ?
Hm, I could see that but Tsugumi Ohba did say that L actually had a very strong distaste for Light the entire time so it just depends on what you think counts as a friend,
I like that it is left up for fan speculation I personally think L only said it to see what Lights reaction would be and to get in his head
@@BriarShinn Absolutely. But you can disdain someone and still find yourself drawn to them. Kinda like Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter? Their relationship is also perplexing, that's more of what I had in mind.
@@XSparkleDogX Will and Hannibal are actually a really great comparison to L and Light
@@XSparkleDogX I can see what you are meaning
@@BriarShinnwait you saying light is a gay lol?
What’s crazy is only L was smart enough to see that there was a HUGE, INSTANTANEOUS change in Misa’s and Light’s demeanor. To everyone else he looked like a madman but he knew something fishy was going on. He just couldn’t put his finger on it cause it was from supernatural causes.
now that someone mentioned it, even mello and near did not had this skill to notice such small changes in behaviour which makes you think how smart L was.
@@tysonelliot2591 yeah that’s probably why he didn’t choose who would replace him because they didn’t seem that good or near his level
@@tysonelliot2591 L couldn't be replaced, the point of near and mellow was for them to work together to surpass L, but mellow wanted to be an edgy boy so that didn't work 😂

The main road we can take is:
A: Light somehow found a way to get close to L.
Good fucking job this video is an absolute success.

ive officially watched this ten hour video four times now i always rewatch death note at least once a year so it is nice finding other people that love this series as much as i do ❤
Honestly, in my opinion Light’s biggest flaw was simply his hugely inflated ego.
They won’t kill him, they’re too ‘noble.’
Then Light just waits for the death squad to breach, shout out “I am Light Yagami!
They show certain illogical things which are only done so as to take the story in a certain direction
And when I think what would someone in reality do in this situation, it's completely different.

Edit: YES THE MUSICAL.

Do you know any other good ones?
Around 2:19:48, you state that L doesn't care about Ukita. While it's true that through his backstory, we are told that L does not care about things like justice. While he is not sweating, however, we can see at 2:19:58 that he is clutching onto his legs extremely tight. His hands are even shaking as he does. He is the most distant to Ukita out of everyone, and so it would make sense he is the one most calm. But he is also acting calm under pressure to keep Aizawa from getting reckless and getting killed as he states, showing a degree of control under pressure.
In the anime they made him show much more emotion over Ukita’s death. He was scared.

It isn't just the length either, your takes are very interesting, not the usual. Excellent work, I can't imagine how long it took. The dedication to your craft is absolutely outstanding.
You killed it man. I love everything about death note. and this is a video i know i will be back to in the future
