    Everyone remember to connect the foil on the back of that Mylar tape to the bottom bolt this is very important for magnetic ground to occur. When you look at it stock the foil is bent down at the center to make that connection but what you can do is put a few ss washers in the middle till you get a flush connection with that bolt. check with multimeter. foil to pl259 ground

    Thank you for the rebuild. I run a Wilson 1000 mag mount also.

    Hi, The whole base is open to water intrusion through the top not sealed and bottom not sealed as well as where coax inters plastic hsg. This causes corrosion and entry to coax jacket. I know that is what caused me to have to do to mine as you have shown. I sealed it all and still using it to this day no problems. Thanks for the video.

      Just repaired one. Terrible corrosion on the Bolt that holds the D bracket to the magnet. The coax was in great shape.

    Great video keep em coming, thanks. Had to replace my cheap coax on the Stricker Antenna with RG142 Mil spec teflon double shielded coax as the coax runs down the back of the car and goes in-between the back door and body. I don't like doing that but I did, the Rg142 is some what more rugged I hope. Thanks again. Please let us know how that Hy-Gain beam is working for you.

      I have never worked whit 142 coax, I will have to get some. I hope to have my Beam back up this July, It worked very well at my last location and I am sure it will here in Planet Utah:) Thanks for subscribing and watching my videos. Cheers from 390

    Keep in mind, coaxial length is an important element to the antenna circuit. One must know the velocity factor, and compute the length based on odd multiples of a quarter wavelength, considering the velocity factor. This is VERY important. This is why nearly all antenna have around 18 feet of coax. The other two lengths would be 6.5 (too short most of the time) and 30 feet. Nothing in between. (again, exact length depends on velocity factor of the coax) - Research this - Coaxial phasing

      I think that's the biggest debate and antenna Theory when it comes to coaxial cable from what I read most experts believe it doesn't matter what length of coax is

    That foil is important. I was reading today about how magnetic mount antennas make a capacitive connection to ground through whatever it's stuck to. The foil is part of the dielectric. The article was a comparison of roof or trunk mount vs. magnetic (spoiler: no practical difference performance wise)

    In addition : to prevent any vibration & movement causing wire breakage. hot glue the coax jacket to the inside base where it lays down next to the connector. Lil Hot glue the center and shield so no moisture seeps into coax. Med Sand and clean all the metal touching hardwood every year,especially all the ground contacts. Vasaline or dialectic grease seal the plastic area around the so239, the set screw and the hole where the whip goes in before screwing the antenna on to waterproof everything. Don't overtighten antenna. That will star to spin the counter and dialectic of so239, breaking the wire

    Not sure how old that Wilson is , I purchased a new one recently, roof mount , and a magnet mount ,, both of them came with the 62 inch whip ,, both were electrically too short , how awesome is that . !! So , 27 bucks x2 later , I have flat SWR’s on both vehicles . No shout out to Wilson from me . It’s pathetic you have to buy stuff twice to make it right . Total lack of attention to detail . And it’s like trying to win the lottery trying to figure out where to buy their replacement version of that stupid cheap made PL-259. It took me 3 times to get it right on eBay . They have it listed sooooo wrong !! . They have to be the dumbest antenna folks on the planet . But other than wanting to take the stinger and switch whip the person responsible for marketing , and quality control by the time I finally got everything that made it work (2 weeks) , performance seems to be good .

    Hi 390, I am redoing my 5000 from 2012 I bought new...the problem I have is the epoxy let go from the big "washer" to the magnet and the foil no longer touches the bolt that holds the 239 to the big "washer"...and my mylar isnt coming off, so I am kinda stumped if I cant get the foil mylar

    i intend to run a 12 pill in my car with a Wilson 5000. It will produce 3,300 watts PEP. Is it possible to change the coax to RG-213 on the magnamount and roof mount antennas ?

    • @seeharvester
      @seeharvester Рік тому

      I wouldn't run that kind of power thru a mag mount no matter what the advertising says.
      Of course this is 8 months old.
      How did it go?

  • @seeharvester
    @seeharvester Рік тому

    What's the purpose of the aluminum foil in the base?
    I wonder what would happen if you took the shield and screwed it directly to the vehicle body?
    Wouldn't that be just like conventional mount except without the big hole in the roof?
    You'd just have a small screw hole.
    Any thoughts?

    • @gabrielM1111
      @gabrielM1111 Рік тому

      That foil is for magnetic ground to occur but it must be connected to that bolt on the bottom. I tried what you said running a small wire from the mount into the body and it did work but didn't make much of a difference versus stock foil

    Have you noticed the ground if you attach your metre to the cable they and where you’re screwed in then you touched with a magnet that there’s no ground it doesn’t connect that’s what makes us sick. Sometimes it’s hard to get certain vehicles with ground.
