After 1 winter, I had to throw the Hustler’s away. Every time it snowed, my Stryker 447 wouldn’t transmit due to SWR protection cutoff. Even dry, the SWR’s were wonky. Very disappointed in the Hustler antennas
@jrichtruckincbtips, i got a new model Cascadia with condo sleeper. It has factory mirror mount on driver side, similar to yours. With the sleeper cab, do you recommend this Hustler on back of cab or stick with the mirror mount? If mirror option, do you think the Hustler would perform better than Skip Shooter if coil was mounted high enough?
If you want more truck front to rear coverage, and less side coverage. Buy another Hustler like you have and a coax phasing kit(dual coax kit) and phase them together. Your angle of radiation should be lower so it will work DX better. Or stay with one hustler and with a higher radiation angle, and you local coverage will be better.
Check into lmr240 ultraflex coax its a less loss coax so more power makes it to the antenna and it's double shielded so it will help keep unwanted interference out
Quality of coax and quality connectors and antennas make all the difference. Put the money in the coax and antenna system first. Then any old yak box (that meets factory receive specs) will work great!

I'm lucky the lil will has worked well on mine as there are airdam braces up there made of metal so it stays put and very low swr reading but talk and receive could be better
Theoretically, your ground strap needs to be as short as possible, also attaching the strap to the antenna mount wouldn't make any difference which side of the bolt it was attached, once the strap makes contact with the mount, the ground has been established. Question: What's the purpose of tilting the antenna at an angle, are you undecided on whether your going with a vertical or horizontal polarization?
@@jrichtruckincbtips I kinda figured but wasn't sure. Gotta question for you. I currently run two firestix on my rig but after watching your video, I went and took a gander at the "Skip shooter's", They are 5/8th wavelength which is about a good as it gets for a mobile antenna, how well do you think Co-Phased 4'.5" skip shooter's will perform in place of the Firestix. If I did my math correctly, the 4.5 foot skip shooter will be a few inches below the 13.6 foot mark. I have a 2021 Pete 579 which has the factory antenna mounts on the cab body just outside each door, Co- phased antennas work well between 5' foot and not exceeding 9'feet. I have a factory stock Cobra 29 LTD and was recently taking with a guy who was 29 miles up a Mountain canyon from me and was getting good signal reports 5/7 to 5/9 "S" units with the firestix, if the Skip shooter's are as good as people report, than I should easily surpass that distance, what's your thoughts on that??? Thanks for reading and sharing your antenna install. Oh, real quick, with my Pete, I purchased one of those black rubber anti static strips that you sometimes see under trucks, they bolt to your undercarriage and drag on the ground, I've seen them alot on school buses, I have noticed a huge improvement in heard static/crackling noise you hear sometimes through your CB speaker I purchased mine through "Granger" in Santa Fe Springs,Ca fairly cheap. Just a little added insurance against static electricity that causes issues. 👍
Ive had 2 of these. First one I thought was great, picked up well, heard everything, but I eventually broke it on a tree limb. Second one was complete crap, the threads at the bottom of the coil stripped out very very quickly, and it didn't seem to pick up like the old one. The whip on top is nice in theory, but in reality it doesnt bend much, its stiff, and they will still break. Shame on the modern QC, I'll have to find something else now. Thank god you arent using 18' coax, its a meme.
Hello I drive a 2023 FL the antenna is on the back of the slipper and I see two different antennas im not sure if they are both cb I thinking one is for the cb and the other one is for the radio im not sure. What im trying to do is get a antenna that I can set the swr on so I can use my radio. This is a company truck so not much I can change on it. I like your videos they help me out if possible I would like to talk with you about what I have to work with just see what can do
Hi, great install with the Hustler in that position but having antennas on the mirror at a 45 degree angle is ridiculous. CB antennas should be vertically polarised otherwise your sending your signal to the ground or sky. Not good
I here you, but at times whit the antenna vertical the swr can be much higher. With most fiberglass antennas at highway speed the greater half of the antenna will be vertical. Otherwise with a vertical antenna at highway speed you would be talking to the ground or your trailer behind you. Which is where I do most of my talking is at highway speed.
@@jrichtruckincbtips yeah no worries, I do understand and having the Hustler up top is a far better option. I drive a truck here in the UK and know the challenges of good CB installs. Keep up the good work 👍
Take notice when you go under the door plate that it doesnt go beyound the corner ability of your coax....Also keep in mind of movement near the screws of the plate, might rub and eventuall short out..I know cause i did it with a car stereo..
Tip re your gnd straps...All those grab rails are bonded to the back of the cab already....I would just use 2 strap to connect back of cab wall where top of cab shock mounts to where bottom of shock mounts....
Now that you've had the antenna for a bit is it any good? Looking at getting one for my dump truck because I'm tired of buying new whips for my Wilson.

I know what you're talking about, but I haven't had an opportunity to look at those close up to give you a sure fix. But, I'd try running a better coax, ground the mount to the frame, and a tall top load antenna for starters.
Your content is great! I am a slip seat driver. One trip I can be in a Volvo, next a Pete, then next a Freightliner. My SWRs are all over the place, depending on the truck. I usually use the bird pearch, but seems I can never get my SWRs lower than a 2. A couple of trucks they shoot well past 3, and don't use my radio then. I run a Galaxy 959b, with a Wilson 2000 mounted on a vice grip mirror holder, and run RG8X coax. Any advice on how to lower my SWRs? Thanks
Yeah, it's tough trying to maintain a low swr while constantly changing trucks. Even with a good ground I have found it hard to get a great swr with wilson antennas. I prefer Skip Shooter and Hustler antennas. I'd try a different antenna first.
What antenna would you recommend for a 2020 t680 with the tall double sleeper(don't know what else to call it) it has the mirror mount but I'd be open to other options
I ran 6' Skip Shooters on my T880 with a short pipe over the base to reduce flex see this video ua-cam.com/video/jqw0Iy-5LwU/v-deo.html. You also need to ground the antennas and mirrors on that truck see this video ua-cam.com/video/Ar6mxY57lzs/v-deo.html

I'm getting an RF Output "Fail" on my diagnostics. Uniden says I need to make sure my antenna is properly ground. How do I do that with this antenna?
Mag mounts usually don't need more grounding. I'd be looking at the connections, and putting the coax and antenna on an analyzer. However, if grounding is needed, my thoughts would be rf bonding.
I’m probably tardy to the party but I’m running a kw and running two different antennas not really sure if I’m doing a good thing or a bad thing any tips on that or should I run two of the same antennas?
Why do truckers point antennas somewhat forward? Is it aesthetics? Omnidirectional antennas need to be vertical to work properly. Pointing them forward sends the electromagnetic waves to the ground and the sky, not in the direction of other radios.
Great question! There's a few reasons you may want to tilt them forward. 1. Most of do the most talking at 70 MPH, and if the antenna was straight up at 0 mph it's now pointing at the trailer at 70 mph. So, with a little lean the top half will be straightat speed. Depending on the mounting location it maybe necessary to tilt forward to get the coil away from the body to reduce reflection and lower SWRs. 3. Height requirements, some antennas maybe just too long and you don't want to be hitting trees, power lines, and low bridges. 4. Some think it looks cool.🤷♂️ Thanks for watching.
@@jrichtruckincbtips Nope...Often Not True.. @@MrBOB39 not talking about the Hustler at all here, just antennas in general. Further more depending on the mounting location , you need to lean the antenna forward to reduce reflection and lower swr.
J rich...The purpose of bonding is to electrically equal all aprts of said car or truck..You need to give rf a complete path to folllow, like a race track sorta speak cause the start and finish is always same spot....Most trucks today are not much more than glued together with a few spot welds..Ex..connect doors to cab,cab to fire wall(both sides) and back cab wall to sides of cab and floor, keep straps as short as possible and sorry to say you got some long ones there..Like bbi said in his bonding vid,you want the entire car/truck ect to radiate rf..I got a 40ft roll of braided wire commin tomorrow, some open, short, load ends for my analyxer so i can see the tune via ant vs radio side of coax..With my set up now i get 30-50 mi and well skip is almost limited on side band..

@Robert ugh, might want to stay away from that guy. I'm not sure on that truck if it has a multiplex box. Meaning the driver's side antenna works the cb and the passenger side works the am/fm radio. So, I'd find that out by removing the passenger side antenna and see if the am/fm radio gets weak. If it does, I'd get a 4' firestik for the driver's side and Firestik makes an antenna specifically for am/fm radio in 4' also.

If you all want a good antenna monkey made antennas are the best antenna I been talking on the cb for many many years ever since I was a little kid I know what mobile antennas are junk and mobile antennas are not mokey made antenna hold a lot of watts if you run a linear with your radio
The reason the predator beats the mm is two reasons one the MM is flat coiled and makes a lot of wind noise. Secondly it's heavy af. Performance wise if the shaft is the same length there is Zero difference between mm9 predator 10k or even a big coil k40. But u can get the predator 10k with a 27 in lower shaft and it's light AF for what it is.

I bought a 22 inch extension and so far my Wilson antenna is benefits the most with it and doesn't swing around as much ( I only wish i had bought a longer extension) my 5.5 ft francis the K 40 and 4ft fire stick have me above a 2 SWR.. so that being said I wonder what kind of SWR reading a hustler with a long extension on the mirror would read..
I have a Coronado dump truck aka 122sd. I don’t have that bracket behind the cab but am planning on using steel to make me a mount close to the top of the cab. My truck has a gap between the cab and body. This antenna is going to work great! I’ll do a video when I do it and let you know so you can check it out.

The Hustler will receive better than the Skip Shooter. The Hustler is a little short for the mirror mount. I prefer it on the rear.
I prefer the single omnidirectional, never found cophase to be worth the hassle.
Check into lmr240 ultraflex coax its a less loss coax so more power makes it to the antenna and it's double shielded so it will help keep unwanted interference out
Definitely good stuff
Absolutely 240 ultra or rg400! Just make sure to get your calculations velocity factor and such and get the length for the frequency your prefer!
Quality of coax and quality connectors and antennas make all the difference. Put the money in the coax and antenna system first. Then any old yak box (that meets factory receive specs) will work great!
@@rockhaller3899 yessir, Times LMR-240/400/600 ultra flex is hard to beat for the price. Only way I could see it getting any better is Commscope (old Andrews) super flex fsj2 corrugated hardline and matching Commscope/Andrews connectors.

@@jrichtruckincbtips sounds good. I am a former CB operator well back in 1975 I was. I might get on CB again. I was looking for mounting ideas on a truck for antennas and came across your video. I am a licensed Ham operator and want to setup mobile radios for VHF & HF. I also plan on putting a CB in the truck as well.
Most do it to accommodate for the antenna flex at highway speed.

I run a Galaxy 959b, with a Wilson 2000 mounted on a vice grip mirror holder, and run RG8X coax.
Any advice on how to lower my SWRs?

Yeah, it's tough trying to maintain a low swr while constantly changing trucks. Even with a good ground I have found it hard to get a great swr with wilson antennas. I prefer Skip Shooter and Hustler antennas. I'd try a different antenna first.

I prefer 1 antenna, but should be running matching antennas.
