    Loving your videos, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience !
    I don't have the same pump (macewans No 1) 2 3/4" , but I've started my restoration journey and applying concepts from your videos has helped endlessly. Hopefully it'll go back together and work in the coming month.

      Pleasure , the theory is pretty much the same for the piston pumps no matter what the design

    Thanks for the video! I live in the States and just picked up 2 Myers pumps like this. One of them has another packing gland on the oil side in stead of the Welch plug on the pump in the video. I considered putting an old rubber on the pump rod as you suggest, but the distance between the two glands is less than the stroke of the pump. That means if I install a rubber washer on the rod, it will be impossible to keep it from hitting both gland nuts as the pump runs. I'm thinking my best bet is to keep both glands in good shape and keep an eye on it.
    I'm only playing around with them at this point but I've always found these piston pumps fascinating. I've tinkered with a number of makes and I can see why this particular style is a good one. Many older styles have valve covers that are threaded plugs and those are very difficult to remove without damaging if the pump has been sitting for decades.

      My pleasure, glad to share some advice, The old blokes I learnt from have long since died. When the Myers patent ran out in the USA, they started making them here and made them until 1988. I still have the original moulds they were made from. Then company ran like a production line with a conveyer where each part was put on by a seperate person, they made 15 000 per year in the best years. Personally I would make up a welch plug to replace the oil side gland, I do have a couple of oil side glands here but we dont use them. Be sure to check out my videos on troubleshooting them . Thanks for watching

      @@shedasaurus I do have another question. You might have mentioned this but does the flywheel need to rotate a certain direction for proper oiling? My wheel is on the discharge side of the pump and my motor is turning counter clockwise. I'm not sure if that is correct. If it isn't, is is possible to reverse the crank and put the wheel on the suction side? If my motor is turning the wrong way, flipping the crank would solve that.

      @shedasaurus  2 роки тому +1

      @@clockbuilderhg Wheel was always on the suction side ( can be changed without a problem) To oil the gudgeon pin in the piston better if it runs clockwise in its normal position, anticlockwise in your position. Will do a short video on it

    Hello I have one and I'm trying to find a solution on how to run one of these, would a solar powered 0.5 hp motor run one with no trouble?

    • @shedasaurus
      @shedasaurus  Рік тому +1

      Would need to be 1440 rpm and continuous duty not that cheap rubbish off ebay. Probably better with a 1/2 hp AC with an inverter as they are heaps cheap and plentiful and can run for days without letting the smoke out. Small power loss from inverter

    • @shedasaurus

      @@Nes61424 I have had them lifting from 7 meters with a check valve at the bottom of the line but that is a big lift for it and they are rated to 76 meters head , if you change the cylinder liner to 1-1/4" they will pump 121 meters head
