  • APD NEWS RELEASE - Asheville Police Release Aston Park Protest Body Cam Footage
Asheville, NC (Feb. 27, 2023): The Asheville Police Department has released video footage from the late December 2021 Aston Park protest.
These videos are body-worn camera footage from multiple police officers who responded to the demonstration, after the park closure, on the night of December 25, 2021. Six people were arrested that night for 2nd Degree Trespassing. Some were charged with resisting arrest.
Activists dumped thousands of pounds of garbage in Aston Park during a protest which they described as a family art event. The abandoned property included furniture, a kitchen sink, and tires, among many other items.
“The ACLU requested the video, and we willingly complied. We believe the public has a right to see this video of police officers doing their job and upholding the law,” said Chief David Zack.
Following the incident and a two-month investigation, detectives charged 16 with Felony Littering and Aid & Abet Felony Littering for illegally dumping over 2,000 pounds of items into the park.
Videos #1-14 and #25 capture interactions with protestors. All other videos capture small miscellaneous footage.

That girl been binge watching yt shorts for too long lolol. Also it looks like they trashed the area, prob why they not allowed to be there. Looks like a homeless camp of some kind in a public park and they are doing their nightly clearings.
edit i didnt see description, apparently they dumped 2000 pounds of trash there and called it art? idk.

So, I see the police doing their jobs as directed by their superiors as dictated by our failed policies of dealing with the homeless. They don’t make policy - they just get under paid to enforce them and in this case - at least - they do so professionally and with as much respect & compassion as their dictate allows. I also see two activists posing as journalists immediately confronting the officers with aggressive voices and demeanors. I do not see any journalistic ethics or attempts to cover a very legitimate story in an objective and professional manner. These individuals are not covering a story or exposing any truth - they inserted themselves as part of the event and were correctly arrested for doing so. This is in no way to suggest that the actual policies that lead to the kind of homeless issue AVL currently has and the police actions they generate are the best we can or should do - they clearly are not.

Then you are cherry picking. They refuse to identify. They enforce the bs laws they are not obligated to enforce. They are the problem. Cops are the government weapon against its people. They refuse unjust law enforcement and there is no unjust law.

The activist group involved in this incident I have dealt with before and is extremely aggressive. And I'm an activist , or rather I used to be.
