News 13’s Ty Russell and Holly Headrick discuss that question with Micheal Woods, executive director of Western Carolina Rescue Ministries, Kit Cramer, president and CEO of the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, Rondell Lance, president of the Asheville Fraternal Order of Police, and Honor Moor, Chair of the Asheville Coalition for Public Safety.
News 13’s Ty Russell also sits down with Asheville Police Chief David Zack for one-on-one interview.
The topics include how we got here, affordable housing, mental health and drug use, attracting new officers, police visibility downtown, downtown business safety, the impact of crime on tourism, and the long-term solutions for rising crime in Asheville.

I support the Asheville police! We need to start paying our police better and getting the community to support them. Crime will get better if we do those two things!

Tax dollars should go to Western Carolina Homeless shelter and to the housing authority. The housing authority should set up testing for the tenants. Set apart the clean tenants from the addicts and require the addicts to get help. Assign social workers to these humans and get them clean and jobs and training and health care! They are all human beings and I think God is gonna get us all for how we treat the least of our society! It can be done and should be!

I love this idea! The problem is that the local, state and federal governments won't let it happen because it "discriminates" against the drug addicted, are stuck in the Housing First mentality, and NIMBY zoning codes.
The successful homeless programs have released this and have gone to a private donation approach while building tiny homes just on the outskirts of city limits.

You have what happens if you have a person that's take a CBD for arthritis glaucoma whatever pain control are they going to get red flag too? Or even if they have a medical marijuana card that's the whole purpose of those things is to make them a lawful user.
