This is why it would be wise for people to remain out of police business if they don't have all the facts. He had a warrant out for his arrest, was a known violent felon, and was violently resisting arrest. The media only served to further enrage people, recklessly spreading false news in order to increase their dime. I visited Asheville over the past week and talked to several of the wonderful officers that serve that jurisdiction. They're all professional, and in the video demonstrated excellent teamwork, patience, and investigative work when stopping Mr. Whitmire. They gave him the benefit of the doubt that he was Tevon, and when the facts came to light he was promptly taken into custody. Also, this violent interaction could've been avoided if A) He didn't claim to have a gun, B) Would've complied with the officer's lawful arrest.

I noticed the media is good at that they spread what they want people to see, never the full story, so that citizens will be outraged. They cause discord and confusion it’s really sad

The bystanders should be arrested for shouting false statements trying to incite riots. There needs to be stronger laws created to prevent mobs from forming. It always makes the situation more dangerous for everyone

NO. The police must be policed by the community, this much is clear. They are GOING TO STOP KILLING BLACK AMERICANS or they are going to be dealing with much bigger mobs. They are NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE, nor should they.

The right to free speech unfortunately covers the right to make those statements. However, I do believe if it had gotten to a certain point (this is far more dangerous than the situation here) then the police would have no choice but to arrest those responsible to inciting violence. However, for the most part the crowd remained non-violent, and just voiced their disagreement with the actions of the police officers.

it's apparent that they set this whole thing in motion for a payday. This is why he lied and said he had a gun knowing that the first thing cops will do is try to take it by force which means they would have to put hands on him or pull their guns on him but they didn't.I notice his girlfriend didn't start recording until after he stated he had a gun. Since that didn't cause the situation to esclate he kept spitting in the officers direction because he knew that would make anybody mad especially a black person but that failed also since that didn't work either the crowd started hollering things that wasn't true for what I could hear they know that some cops will say stop resisting to justify their force. If someone tells the cops they have a gun normally they would tell them where it is and produce a permit but he did the opposite to get the results he wanted. In my opinion him and his twin have done this plenty of times is why they have the same tattoos they knew the cops would check to see if the tattoos on each one is in the system and that if they aresset the wrong twin sometimes all the proof some cops needs is that you're black but these cops wasn't falling for their scheme they wanted proof and he saw they wasn't going to arresst him until they could prove who he was which means both of them was in on it together and the family members and girlfriend was in on it looking for a payday because if it wasn't wasn't true then where was Tevin

How dumb can you be to tell the cops you have a gun? What do you expect them to do? Play Patty cake with you. When your own mom has to get an order to keep you away. That should tell everyone he's a bad apple. Idk what they're getting upset about he was playing cops and robbers he got taken down. But some judge will bond him right back out to continue his terrorist attacks on his family and some poor stranger that he comes in contact. He obviously didn't have an issue with his breathing. Never do you hear him say I Can't breathe. Officers handled the situation above board.

I heard him say something about getting or getting rid of a gun. That's when the officers moved in. Maybe de-escalation would have been possible, but a wrestling match beats a gunfight any day. Clearly he resisted arrest and assaulted the officers. I didn't see brutal tactics on the part of the officers. Bystanders were not helpful by taking the wrong side.

This clown was clearly wrong for lying and spitting and kicking these racist but they didn't do too much wrong here. The woman cop was the problem. I could have arrested him easier, and without incident, he wasn't really resisting he was more disrespectful. Those cops couldn't arrest him if he was resisting them. They definitely don't know how to fight they just have a badge and a gun that's their weapons. He didn't try to fight them he was only provoking them, but they did the right thing here in my eyes.

After 75 years of Abuse & Murder by cops, cops (seem) to have learned how Not to Kill a Mentally Ill citizen. The HUGE question here is Training... Why wasn't this man tased? It would have solved a lot of problems and cut this encounter time in half. This guy is lucky to be alive and the cops, did an ok job.

I'm sure there was a reason why they didn't use a TASER. If there was a reason for them to have used it, they probably would have. Police have to follow strict policies as to when they can use certain tactics. I'm not familiar with these policies, although I know North Carolina itself has four police reform laws on its books. They might not have been legally allowed to use a TASER in that specific situation - it could have been excessive force and behavior unbecoming of an officer. It seems like, despite one officer needing to go to the hospital for minor injuries, they were able to handle the situation using only restraint. I believe TASERs might only be allowed to be used if the suspect is actively fleeing or attempting to flee, and they cannot use a TASER while the suspect is already under restraint, and he was under restraint during the entire search and arrest.

    • @smackyomomma5666

@@dotwellington5949 They didn't use a Taser because 90% of cops are NOT THINKERS they, at best they are FOLLOWERS, Blind, Thoughtless, Ignorant, Followers. One Example: Its why when one cop starts shooting, They ALL Start Shooting, many times leading to an Unarmed Citizen having over 45 rounds fired at them & getting Shot 5, 10. and even 15 times. Face Reality.

No he didn't. Let's keep it real...that's all we need to do. He PUSHED the chest of the female officer who was moving in on him - a natural reaction, especially when youre running scared and two officers are holding your hands to your sides - you are vilnerable, its natural...as is the kick. He was resisting, no two ways about it. Lets keep it REAL. The officers could have handled it differently, they didnt have to move on hom like that. I dont know why you would rush someone who just said he had a gun..it seems yo me that the nest optionwould have beento draw down on him. He had a phone in each hand I doubt he would have tried anything at that point, considering he didnt actually have a gun. I think he told them that so they would back off and he could run - if shot, its another shooting of an unarmed black youth - if not, he might get away for a minute. Who knows, but him. Thats pretty crazy. He did wrong, tne officers did alright, but could have sone things differently. Lets just keep it REAL. These officers weren't that bad, he wasn't THAT bad, either (wrong doesnt necessarily mean bad - he didn't have to die over this as so many young black men have) he just wasn't too smart about it, and that shouldnt be a death sentence. I'm just glad that he, the cops, and no one else was hurt...THAT is REAL.
